Airport Express for iTunes needs rebooting to be detected all the time

It seems that each time I reboot my macBook, my airport express needs to rebooted to be detected. I use it for streaming music only- not for internet access- and have it configured accordingly. It is connected to remote speakers and works perfectly when it has been rebooted but if I leave it on and have shut down the macBook the green light stays on but the newly rebooted computer doesn't detect the unit until I unplug it and reconnect. Anybody have any helpful info? Thanks in advance...

Is this message box indicating the Airport Express is re-connecting to your internet service and if so, is this Airport Express connected to a DSL internet service that uses the PPPoE protocol to connect? If so, run the Airport Admin Utility, select your Express, click on the Configure button, click on the Internet tab, and check the box to "always stay connected". Update settings to the Airport Express.

Airport Express as a print server
I have an Epson Stylus R280 on an Airport Express.
When I wait a day or so and then go to print, I always have to unplug the Airport Express and plug it in again to get the printer to print. I have the newest driver for the printer.

How can I stop my iphone 4s from asking for my icloud, yahoo and other passwords all the time?

As long as you share that AppleID for iCloud, you cannot.  You are sharing a a single iCloud account and sync services.  The only thing you can do is get a second AppleID and use it with iCloud - you do not have to use that new AppleID for anything but iCloud (ie. you can still share an AppleID for iTunes and App store purchases).
P.S. I am assuming you both want to sync your contacts with iCloud?

  • Using Airport Express for iTunes on a non-Apple router

In the past, we used a Microsoft wireless router, and all of the Airport Express stations worked great (we have 3). You can start up iTunes, and iTunes showed all three Airport stations in the popup at the bottom, allowing us to pipe our iTunes music to anywhere in the house.
The Microsoft router starting going bad (2 years old), and so we replaced it with a Linksys wireless router (the one that also supports a USB printer). The Linksys is working fine for printing on that USB printer from any computer in our LAN, and it provides all the LAN computers with internet connectivity; however, the Airport Express stations are flakey at best.
At first they didn't even work (aka, didn't show up in iTunes anymore). I ran Airport Admin and connected each one of them to the iMac directly to configure them. After configuring each one, they did start to show up in iTunes. I restored them to their original locations through out the house using wireless connectivity, and they did show up in iTunes and allowed music to play through. Unfortunately, after a day or two, they dropped off, and they never came back. We never had these kinds of headaches with the Microsoft router, so I'm wondering if there is some incompatibility with the Linksys and Airport Express, or if there is some configuration parameter on the Linksys that I need to tweek. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a similar issue with my Airport Express connected to a Linksys wired router (BEFSR41, the common Linksys 4-port router). My iMac is connected (wired) to one of the ports on the Linksys and the AP Express is connected to one of the other ports. Airport Admin on the iMac can't see it unless I manaully connect to it by specifying the IP address (having fixed its IP from my PowerBook via wireless) and (of course) iTunes on the iMac can't see it either.
I had an older generation BEFSR41 and this setup worked great, but they must have changed something. I can't seem to figure out how to disable whatever port-to-port (network jack to network jack on the router that is) that they have added the "blocks" Airport Admin utility from seeing it.

  • After loading Lion on my laptop, iTunes is trying to start automatically all the time.  Problem does not occur on desktop with Lion.

I recently loaded Lion on both my laptop and desktop.  On the laptop only, iTunes is now trying to load automatically literallly all the time!  What can I do to stop the madness???

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • Magic Mouse: Why Does It Need to Be Clicked When Restarting or Booting from Shutdown to Get Detected All the Time?

Hi. I'm using Snow Leopard via USB external drive (the hardisk is blank- testing something with Leopard). When I start the late 2009 iMac and boot with the Option Key, I need to click the Magic Mouse all the time so the mouse can be detected and move the cursor to the Snow Leopard icon ( in its boot menu ). After the Magic Mouse is detected, it's good from there.
Is this normal or there's something wrong with the Magic Mouse? The keyboard doesn't need to be pressed though to be detected, it's detected each time.
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless, Rev. 21:4

I cannot see why you should have to click the magic mouse in order for it to be detected ... unless you have changed the batteries.  See my notes which cover the points made in your other recent post.
Batteries.  Here are a few notes I've put together.
Whether you use regular or rechargeable batteries you should buy the best. Discounted or unbranded batteries are more likely to give a depleted performance and may be of irregular size, often leading to connection problems.
Apple’s own brand, Eneloop and Energiser appear to be the best. Rechargeable batteries for the standard Magic mouse are unlikely to exceed eighteen days before needing a recharge although the mouse itself can be a limiting factor.  I have seen reports that some Logitech mice vastly exceed this.    Apple may suggest more in their sales blurb but this is a realistic expectation.  The benefit (if you are organised) is that you can always have charged batteries available.  Regular batteries will give you between 25 and 35 days before they need to be replaced. Note.
Never mix old and new batteries or rechargeable and regular.
The notes above are based on my personal experience, not shutting down my machine and using it for around four hours per day.  Note.  Monitors do not always faithfully report battery strength, particularly the rechargeable ones.
When checking your mouse or keyboard batteries ... Turn off the device. Remove the batteries, Clean the terminals both inside the battery compartment and the batteries themselves. Replace or renew both batteries. Turn on the device.  You should get a blinking green light if the device is paired. Click the mouse to activate it.  The green light becomes steady.

  • Time capsule, do i need to leave this on all the time?

hi folks just got a new time capsule drive, and set it up, however i am not sure whether or not i should leave it on all the time? or switch it off when not in use?
does the hdd drive power down when idle?
    cheers

hi folks just got a new time capsule drive, and set it up, however i am not sure whether or not i should leave it on all the time? or switch it off when not in use?
The Time Capsule (TC), like most networking equipment, is designed to operate 24x7. However, you can power it down when not in use for either Internet access, file/print sharing, or Time Machine backups.
does the hdd drive power down when idle?
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it goes into "sleep" mode when there is no disk activity after a certain period of time.

  • Using airport express for itunes and another wireless network for internet

Is there any way i can use my airport express just for playin music through airtunes, and log onto the internet using a different wireless network?

Hello bleno567. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is there any way i can use my airport express just for playin music through airtunes, and log onto the internet using a different wireless network?
Yes, you just need to configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), that will be used to stream iTunes, as a wireless client.

  • Airport Express for Itunes Invisible After Adding Time Capsule to AX Networ

One step forward, one step back.
I have an airport express linked to my airport extreme network for itunes streaming. It's worked fine forever. I recently added a time capsule to the extreme network for backup purposes using Time Machine. The extreme and TC form a single network are both connected via ethernet. The TC and express are in the same room. Time machine now is working fine. However, the airport extreme is no longer visible in itunes or airport utility. The light is green on the express and I was able to verify the settings when connecting it directly with an ethernet cable.
In setting up the AX/TC network, it called for the setting 'extend this network' not to be checked. Could that be it? As I recall, it wasn't anyway.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
    JB

Got this working by directly connecting the Express and TC with and ethernet cable. I don't know if this is the right way for this to work since the two devices just happen to be near enough to do that. That said... I'm happy it's working.

  • Airport Extreme loses USB printer unless printer left on all the time

Running the 802.11n Extreme with firmware 7.1.1 and Airport Utility 5.2.1 (released 13 August 2007) with an Epson RX650 connected directly to the Extreme's USB port.
It appears that the USB port on the Extreme only checks the status of a connected USB printer when the Extreme itself is restarted - if you ever turn your USB printer off (for example, at bedtime) and on again(e.g. the next morning) the Extreme does not re-check the USB port status.
A bit odd, since the intention of USB is to be hot-pluggable...
Any solutions better than restarting the Extreme every time you turn your printer on?

I have this exact same issue,
Airport Extreme just looses my printer all of the time, and leaves Tiger and Leopard in the 'Connecting.' or 'Opening Printer Connection..' stages 40% of the time.
It's an extremely annoying bug, and you have to turn off / un-plug things in the exact order otherwise it just wont:
    a) recognise the printer over it's own USB port or
    b) Finder will never be able to connect to it, even when it can blatantly see it.

  • ITunes has encountered a problem and needs to close... all the time!

I just bought an iPod nano (5th generation). I downloaded iTunes 9.2 for Windows XP. So far, I have only about 15 songs on the iPOD, because whenever I connect it to the computer an error occurs. It goes like this:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the unconvenience.

the information you were working on might be lost.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall exactly how it is described in Apple's support pages, but nothing seems to work.
I'm starting to lose my sanity. Does anyone know what to do?

I'm thinking your iTunes library got currupted somehow.
Try this (assuming iTunes is shut down and not showing in Task Manager > Processes tab)
    Rename this file
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\iTunes Library.itl
    to ....\iTunes Library.old
Try to start iTunes, will it come up now?

  • Do I Really need to render this much all the time????

I just upgraded from a G4 to a MacBook Pro. I am using FC 5.0 HD.
I decided to use the Offline RT Photo Jpeg option to capture all my footage and edit on my MacBook. I figured I could render faster and store a lot more footage on the go.
Trouble is when I have Unlimited RT ON it can't even play back without dropped frames. So with Safe RT it requires me to render each and every clip I drop into the timeline. I have my sequence set to Offline RT Photojpeg but it still requires rendering just to play a clip in the sequence window.
I must be doing something wrong. The playback of the clips are also showing up as 1/2 the size in the viewer window. I have all my settings at the lowest quality for playback. Photos below.
Please help me get this project on the roll. I am stuck.
    Thanks so much.
    Intel 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Thanks David I didn't know that. I can't afford it right now given that I just spent a ton of money on the new computer but I will save up for it.
By the way, I copy and pasted my project into a new sequence. It works great now and I do have RT playback for slow mototion, titles, etc. I think my initial problem was that my sequence was NTSC DV and trying to play my Offline RT photo jpeg clips that I captured. That caused it to require rendering.
    All is good now.
