AirPort Express indicates status OK, but no connection!!

My AirPort Express has been going down hill ever since maybe 6-8 months after I purchased it. First it started losing the connection randomly and it would flash yellow for about 10 min. until it got it back every 5-6 hours or so. Then AirTunes would not work. Now after I've finally gotten those under control (i think!), It seems to just randomly just stop working, but it doesn't indicate so. The AirPort Express meter on my powerbook just has no signal, and the AirPort Express is not in the list of available wireless networks. This is not just my computer, 4 other laptops in my house (3 pc, 1 ibook w/ built in airport) are experiencing the same. However, when I go and look @ the AirPort Express, the light is still a solid green as if it were working fine, and usually if i just unplug it and wait about 30 seconds and then plug it back in, it works fine again. But why is it doing this, and is their anything i can do to fix it!?!
P.S. my AirPort Express is running on 6.2 firmware if that makes any diff.

Since your Airport Express is still under warranty, I suggest you try to get a warranty replacement for it.

There are three Airport resets, soft, hard and factory default. It would probably be beneficial if you tried each one in sequence. Actually, you could jump to the factory default reset if you don't mind reconfiguring from scratch.

How do I configure the AX to connect to the hub's wireless network? It will only scan one base station Airport Express at a time in the Airport Utility. I think what I am trying to do is use the hub as a router to the two AX's. Is there a specific way to set this up?
To set up the AX to join a wireless network as a "Wireless Client," using the AirPort Utility, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
Launch the AirPort Utility.
Select the AX.
If not already connected to the AX's wireless network, go ahead and switch to it when prompted.
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
Network Name: <type in the network name/SSID of the wireless network that you want to join or select it from the pop-up menu>
Wireless Security: None OR, if you are using security on your wireless network:

The internal HDDs must be formatted in either EXT3 or EXT4 file system because NSS uses Linux OS. This is mainly because the RAM designed to fit with the customized Linux OS's size.
You can connect to an external HDD via a USB or eSATA port. The external HDD's file system can be NTFS, FAT32, AFT or EXT3/4 to be recognized for read/write. You can connect a 2TB USB/eSATA drive connec to the NSS via USB port to format your HDD for NTFS, AFT, FAT32, or EXT3/4 partition.
You can join the NSS to a Windows domainr so all domain users to access NSS. You cannot replace the NSS for the Windows 2003 SP2 server. They are two different products and do different jobs. Windows server is features sets server while the NSS is the files/data server.

I would recommend setting the wireless encryption on the AirPort Express BEFORE configuring it for the AirPort Extreme in this case. This issue also comes up often when configuring AirPorts into a WDS.
If setting up security in my recommend order does not work, temporarily connect the Express by Ethernet to the Extreme; make the security changes, and then, move the Express back to the desired location.

Airport Express - need to run multiple internet connections from it.

My systems:
iMac
Airport Extreme
Airport Express
Currently, I use my airport express to wirelessly "feed" an internet connection to my Vudu box (movie download box). Right next to that box I would like to connect my Wii and DirecTV boxes to the internet using the airport express. The problem is that the airport Express has only one LAN line.
How can I share this one port with all three devices? I don't want to keep adding Airport Express boxes nor do I want to add an Airport Extreme at that location as I use airtunes on my stereo and Airport Extreme doesn't offer that. As you can tell I am not very computer literate so go gentle on me

Ok I need everyone's help. I just bought the AirPort Express I am running Windows XP Service pack 3 I have the ethernet connected to the airport express from our wireless router at the same time my computer is connected to the internet the same way. My computer has Internet just fine. After installing AirPort utility it is saying it is unable to find any Apple wirelss device. I am wanting to use my AirPort express with my IPhone when I travel Internationally. I know it works because fellow employess have done this. In the WiFi/Airport pane, remove ALL other networks except your home Network. (This will keep your computer from "wandering off" onto a neighbor's Network.)
You are not done until you close the windows and Save Changes.

A flashing amber light indicates that the AirPort Express (AX) is not connected to either a network or the Internet.
How is your AX connected physically?
Is it: DSL/Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > AX > (wireless) > Mac?
Did you run the AirPort Setup Assistant?

I bought a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm connecting cable to connect the Express to some outlet on the receiver back but am unsure which one to connect to. They have a combination of coaxial and optical plugs, nothing looks like a 3.5mm jack. I also bought a 3.5mm stereo Y-adapter cable to connect the Express to whatever coaxial jack on the back of the receiver. I tried all but could not get a sound out of the system. I checked with earbuds to see if music was coming out my Iphone 4s through the express and it does so obviously it is a connection or setting issue. Everything works WIFi, but want music to stream through my Samsung system which includes TV,AV receiver and BluRay player.

You basically have two choices: 1) Find the best physical placement of the AirPort Express to support multiple locations, or 2) Get another Express to extend the wireless range of the first one.

You are asking several different questions. If you need to store your photos, music, and movies on an external volume, you certainly can. Any externally connected hard disk drive will work, connected either directly to your Mac or to your Time Capsule as a shared volume.
You should not rely upon using that as a backup device though. Although you certainly may use it for both purposes, it is a better idea to have dedicated backup devices for a variety of reasons not limited to redundancy. You would not want to simultaneously lose all your pictures as well as your backup. If they are all on the same device, that could happen. Furthermore, a backup cannot back up the volume on which it is running.
As for adding an Extreme or Express, using its LAN port for your iMac, and then enable Internet sharing so you can effectively use the iMac as a "hotspot", you can do that too, but I am unclear on what benefit you believe this arrangement would convey for you.
An Extreme's Guest network is separate from its Main network; that is the reason for having it.

I've had my Airport Express for a while and have just set it up in my new house with an Orange Broadband wireless router.
I originally got it set up to play music from my Macbook to my Hifi (that's all I use it for) and it worked fine.
I have now been on holiday for 2 weeks and switched it off.
Now when I turn it on the green light is on however the Airtunes option doesn't appear in iTunes and the Airport doesn't show up anywhere on the computer.
I have reset and set it up again and it still doesn't work.
My wireless internet is working fine and the Airport light is constant green as normal however I can't use it for the reason I need.
I normally have issues with it but nothing I try seems to work for this.

I've solved this by resetting my wireless internet connection at the box and then setting up airport express again.

I have a 6-7 year old airport express that I have used frequently as remote speakers for my macbook and 2 iphones. I am currently having problems with getting this to work in my new flat. It worked for a few weeks and now he green light is on but the remote speakers time out when i try to connect to it.
Sometimes the airport is visible in itunes/iphone and sometimes it isn't. when it isn't if i unplug it and leave it a while it appears again but i cant connect but the green light is always on.
It's all set up properly so I don't know if it is just getting old and I need a new one or whether this can be solved.

I am having an issue with my Airport Express set up. I have had 18 months of use of the AE for internet access (no other wireless hardware used), but have suddenly lost the wireless ability.
In my network preferences it shows the AE with an amber light (green on the actual AE) with the message "Airport is turned on but is not connected to a network". When I look at the Airport utility there is no AE showing even after multiple "rescans"
I have gone through multiple processes of turning on and off the router, AE and MBP to no avail. I have gone through soft and hard reboots to intermittent visibility in the Airport Utility. This includes direct linking MBP to AE with Ethernet cable
When the AE finally shows in the utility, i have reset all passwords etc as advised by program, but when the utility goes to restart the AE it loses it and I end up back at square one
I know the internet is working due to Ethernet directly into the MBP
I have take to a friends and they plug and play ... so know the AE works
Is there something i am not doing? Why is the AE and MBP not talking to each other?
Please someone help me !!

Hi, Kozou. Welcome to the forums!
Connect your computer to the Express's Ethernet port and open AirPort Utility. Does this allow AirPort Utility to find your Express?
If so, go through the setup process. After the Express restarts, disconnect it from the computer and connect it to your DSL, cable modem, or whatever provides your internet connection. Wait a minute or so. The light on the Express should turn green.
Now tell your MBP to join the wireless network created by the Express. You can do this using the AirPort menu or the Network pane of System Preferences.
Does this work?
