My new Airport express mysteriously dropped all signals (due to lack of DNS settings ?!?!), I reset it and only my iMac is able to be connected to my network. My iPad 2, iPhone 4S and Roku box will no longer connect. Any solutions to this? Everything was using my netwoek before.
Did you power down your modem prior to resetting the Express?
If not, do it now. Leave it connected to your Express while you power it down. Let it rest a moment or two, then power it back up. Once it restarts, determine if all your other devices are able to connect. -
My airport express frequently drops the internet connection. Once I unplug it, and re-plug it in, my Macbook Pro17,IMac 24, iPad air and my wife's Acer 15 works fine until it drops the signal again. This happens on a regular basis. Is there anything I can do ensure it maintains the internet connection?
It is tricky..
But yes it can be done as long as you use a different IP subnet to what is being used for the internet..
So I need to know what modem router you have?? Does it have wireless as that would make it very easy?
What IP is the computer getting?
Then I can give you the details to setup wireless statically on a different subnet. -

New time capsule+new airport express=daily dropped connections
I have a new 2 TB Time Capsule and a new Airport Express that I puchased to update my old set-up of an Airport Express and Airport Extreme.
I have the TC set-up as the primary base station in the back of the house and the airport express set-up to extend the network in the front of the house. I was getting constant disconnects up front for the first several days so I finally exchanged the new AX for another one thinking maybe the first one was faulty. I reset the TC back to factory defaults for good measure and re-set up my network the same way with the new AX.
Two days with no disconnects, thought it was fixed, and then it started again...no joy. Not as often as with the first AX, but still it happens 2-3 times a day and always up in the front of the house while we're on our MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. When this happens both the AX and the TC have green lights and full bars of connectivity show in the menu bar, but yet no internet access. The only way to reconnect is to restart the AX. I have noticed too, that when this happens, the Airport Utility does not show the TC at all...even though it's light is fully green and it should be there, it just shows the AX until I restart and then both show up again.
I've tried changing the channel from automatic to a specific channel but this really doesn't change things much. Now I'm starting to wonder if something is awry with the TC. I've also noticed that it sometimes fails to back up because it can't find a connection to my iMac which is right next to it in the back of the house.
So far this upgrade has been more of a downgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated!Just an update and still seeking some advice for this situation...anybody?
I tried re-setting both TC and AX to factory settings and re-configuring. Still get at least 3-4 dropped connections up front on a daily basis; however, TC has been connecting successfully and backing up my iMac, so at least that seems to be ok.
Still the same situation with the TC not showing up in Airport Utility every time the network connection drops happen...just the AX is seen until I finally have to restart the AX and then both can be viewed in Airport Utility and the internet connection is restored. Sometimes I can restore connection by simply toggling my airport access on and off in the menu bar of my MacBook Pro, but more often then not, I have to restart the AX itself to get back online.
Is it possible that this could be an issue with the TC? Somehow it might be dropping the connection to the AX? I can still exchange it for another if this may be the case. I'm already on my second AX thinking that the Express was the problem initially.
So far, nothing seems to help the situation. About the only thing that I haven't done is configure the AX to just join the network rather than extend it...but that would be defeating the purpose of why I bought it in the first place (to stream iTunes and extend network).
I never had issues with my old set-up, but then I had it configured as a WDS because I didn't have the option to "extend" the network as it was an older AX and Airport Express. -
Airport express - audio dropping
i'm using airport express for wireless internet and to play audio through a pair of powered speakers. it has worked fine in the past but lately has been dropping the audio constantly. i'm playing music through itunes and the track just stops, and the audio ceases. i'm only about 1 meter away from the airport.
any ideas? thanks!Same problem here. The audio drops seem to directly correlate with any and all web activity in Safari. Every time a new page has to load, Airport Express cuts out. I've had Airport Express (n) for a few months and only recently did this start happening.

Multiple airport express clients dropping iTunes
Hello, I'm new to the board and appreciate the resource and any feedback you guys can provide.
My music is stored on the iMac and I'm trying to stream iTunes to two AX's and the music drops out often. They are both set up as clients. I have searched this forum extensively and think I have isolated the problem as one of the following:
Something to do with UDP protocal
Linksys WRT51AB router settings
512Mb RAM on iMac--too little?
Here's my troubleshooting thus far:
Both airport expresses work by themselves in their current locations.
Locations are close to computer, 1st within 10 feet (1 wall), 2nd another 10-15 feet (2 walls)
Checked firewall settings and "Block UDP" box is unchecked
I tried to forward Port 6000 on my Linksys router based on some advice in another thread here to no avail
AX Firmware 6.3
iTunes 6.0.4
OSX 10.4.6
Thanks for the help
G4 PB & Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.4.6)Thanks for the suggestion. I had not tried that option as I had read somewhere that there is only one Linksys router that supports this setup and it's not the one I have.
I will try the solution and report back. I assume an AX configured as a range extender can also function to stream iTunes?
Also, for clarification, I am using two airport expresses both of which to stream music. They access my network through my Linksys router hardwired to the iMac.
Thanks. -
Airport Express keeps dropping out
Summary of my network
Cable Modem->Ethernet Switch->Airport Express-> Wifi Network; iMac 27, Macbook pro 13, Macbook, iPhone 4, Palm Pre and just recently Apple TV.
Since adding the apple TV, the network will just drop out while streaming from the iMac. in recent months, I've come back to my iMac disconnected from the network. I'd have to select the proper network in the dropdown box. Now, the only resolution to the problem is to unplug the Airport Express and wait for it to reboot. Everything is up to date, running Latest Snow Leopard.try downgrading to 6.1.1 from 6.3. I had to download the software from apple to do it but after that my AX hasn't dropped out since.

Airport Express Audio Drop and Network issue
I have a Dell Laptop, DLink G604T router and Airport Express. When I first bought the airport express I successfully got it to join my existing Dlink wireless network and I could happily stream music wirelessly to the airport express and maintain a wireless internet connection through the Dlink router.
Since then I started having issues with audio drops to the Airport express and despite doing a lot of searching on the discussion forums and internet and trying different things have never solved the issue.
The one thing that does seem to work is if I create a new wireless network with the Airport Express rather than joining the existing Dlink one. I can then stream music flawlessly all day long. The down side is I then can't get internet access wirelessly at the same time. I have to disconnect from one network and connect to the other.
If I connect the dlink router to the airport express by ethernet and use the Dlink router just as a modem I think the issue will be resolved but this is not convenient due to position of router and airport express.
So the question is, Can I get the Dlink router to join the Airport Express Wireless network wirlessly rather than the AE joining the Dlink wireless network? Any thoughts on whether this is possible and if so how?
Dell Inspiron 500m Windows XP ProI had one AE base unit, where network connection would disapear every other day. The light would still be green on the AE, but the signal from the AE could not be picked up nor seen by the computer. Only turning the AE off and back on, would make it appear and work again. I Changed the AE unit, and I dont have the problem any more. I didnt change any settings at all.
So in my case, it was the AE base unit that was malfunctioning.
I have also seen similar problems with a different cause: That the wifi network card in the computer wasnt connected properly. ..
I dont think its a software problem
good luck -
Airport Express constantly dropping connection with AirTunes
I have 2 airport express in 2 completely separate buildings. One has a Base Station feeding it, the other a Bell 2wire DSL wireless router. In both cases they are useless for AirTunes streaming. There is constant cutouts. What is wrong with these things! All computers running 10.6.2.
Welcome to the discussion area!
The two primary causes for drop outs are inadequate signal strength and/or wireless interference.
The AX probably needs to be positioned closer to the wireless router to get a stronger signal. As far as wireless interference, all you can do is try different channel settings on your wireless router to see if one works better than another.
The permanent solution to a drop out problem over wireless, is of course to use ethernet to connect the AirPort Express, but that may not be possible in your situation. -
Airport express keeps dropping air play from iphone
Whenever I use Airplay with my phone, the audio randomly drops out and restarts for no apparent reason.
WiFi signal seems strong, Airport Express is propoerly conected......
Any ideas?I have this issue using my iPhone 4S, but my macbook on the otherhand works perfectly fine. i have a timecapsule with an airport express extender for airplay. as for the issue of it randomly dropping out so far all i can imagine is the singnal strength between the two wifi devices as the phone would pick the stongest one. and as your mobile devices have a weaker signal its gunna switch between the two more frequently but ofcourse this is only if your using the airport as an extender and your have two base stations

Airport express keeps dropping AirPlay
I use AirPlay all the time but in the last week my Airport Express has started to drop AirPlay after an hour or so. I unplug it and restart and then it works again. Yesterday it worked nearly the whole day but cut out in the evening. It's an n model. Any ideas?
I have this problem too, Ive been reading forums about this dropout problem.
I read that wireless home phones could cause this issue. So I unplugged my phones.
It still happened, so I bought a new AirPort Extreme and I STILL have this problem -
Airport Express Continuously Drop Ethernet Connection
Hi:
I have an Airport Express (802.11n) with the latest update software available (7.4.2) and I running my iMac with Snow Leopard (also with the latest software actualization). Since a few weeks ago the device has been dropping the ethernet connection every now and then without any error or malfunction of the software.
I already try almost everything including reset the device and configure a new WiFi net. In some reviews and forums that I have been investigating says that maybe is a firmware (?) problem.
If anybody has the same problem and found the way to solve it I really appreciate the answer to this issue.
Thanks.I had this happen with a new box. One glorious moment it worked first time and then it started doing what you described but hard on! See this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2164508 . Finally solved by getting a replacement from the store!

Airport Express - continually dropping airtunes
Upgraded to Leopard and seem to have created a job for life fixing everything... and Apple poked fun at MS for Vista
Two days ago and for the past 2+ years my G5 daily delivers tunes to the hifi via airtunes and an airport express. As of the last hour when i got as far as checking if iTunes is working after the archive / install i find my music plays for bursts of no more then 30 or 40 seconds with anything from 10 - 30 second gaps where the signal is being dropped. The G5 is also being erratic on the internet.
As a test i have itunes on this powerbook g4 OS X.4 and can play music to the same airport express unit with no dropping or any misbehavior.
All in all hardly a great advert for the supreme features of leopard so far.. anyone who can point me to my failing or a fix I would be gratefulthis had nothing to do with bootcamp and was posted in wrong discussion sorry.... problem now cleared up by the apple keychain update

Airport Express keeps dropping out after update to Mavericks
I have just updated my fairly old system (iMac 2008) to Mavericks and experience has been mostly positive. However the Airport Express that I have been using for years as a network client to play music from iTunes on my hi-fi has now stopped working reliably. It constantly drops the music every few seconds to the point it is unuseable. Generally the green light (on the Express) stays on but for long drop-outs (say over 3s) the orange light starts flashing, then the green light comes back on again.
The only things that have changed are software updates. The iMac has been updated from 10.5.8 to 10.9. iTunes is now 11.1.3 and the Airport Express asked for a firmware update so I did that too. No new hardware has been added, no new RF items have been introduced to the house, nothing has changed position.
The Airport Express is model no A1264. The wireless router is a Netgear model from VirginMedia.
This is really frustrating as its the only job the £80 airport express has to do and now it doesn't.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.Hi BillCilla,
