AirPort Express ip address acts "busy" when printing

I am no longer able to print through my AirPort Express USB port after up-dating my OS X to 10.4.2 and my AirPort Express to V6.2.
Whenever I send a “Print” command to “Office-AirPort”, it seems to process and send, but I keep getting the message,
“Network host ‘192.168.0.100’ busy; will retry in xx seconds…”
I’ve got a D-Link DI-784 802.11a/g router running DHCP @ 192.168.0.1 and two AirPort Expresses, one is my print server named “Office-AirPort”, at 192.168.0.100 (connected via USB/parallel to my HP LaserJet 4M printer) and the other is named “Living-Room” at 192.168.0.101 (used to stream iTunes to my stereo).
I am using HP LaserJet 4M Foomatic/hpjis and a USB to parallel cable. Gimp and/or Foomatic printing used to work fine (in combination with Rendezvous I think) to both my large format HP 450C and my LaserJet 4M prior to yesterday’s software upgrades.
Now, it does not seem to matter how I “add” the printer via the ‘Advanced’ dialogue (via option-clicking on “More Printers…” button), i.e.- AppSocket/HP JetDirect vs. IPP vs. Bonjour registered printer…
The queue name seems to have a mind of its own in the non-advanced dialogue…always pulling the name from the “Name:” field and adding underscores no matter what I enter in the “Queue:” edit field.
I’ve double checked the “device name” registered in my router and it looks ok, “Office-AirPort”, but are there ‘official’ “queue” names and “device” names I should be using in the non-advanced and/or advanced dialogue boxes? Where do I find these “official” names?
If I remember correctly, I think my printers use to show up as Rendezvous options, but I have no idea how the new corresponding “Bonjour registered printer…” settings work (?, mdns://192.168.0.100 still acts busy)
Why doesn’t Bonjour help me out?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yep,
Option+Clicking on the "plus" sign to add a printer in the "Print & Fax" system preferences dialogue box deletes all existing queues and jobs and resets the printing system.
I must have done this 20 times to no avail.
I have also added various printers and sent prints to my other ("Living-Room") AirPort Express at 192.168.0.101 (w/ no printer attached) and get the same "busy" error.
I have changed the AE's ip address to other static addresses but this also, does not work.
I have "restarted", unplugged and "hard" reseted multiple times, again....same error.
Is this a CUPS issue?
How/why must both the hpjis and ESP Gostscript drivers be installed? I downloaded and "installed" both but I've only been "adding" the HP LaserJet 4M Foomatic/hpjis driver. I see that there is a list of other ESP drivers including what looks like a generic HP LaserJet that I have tried, but It does not seem to make any difference. I do not see a "Gostscript" whatchamadinger anywhere and cannot seem to figure out how/why this (postscript?)component is necessary.
A brief look at other posts seems to indicate other various 10.4.2 plus AirPort V6.2 problems....am I wrong?
Are there some Unix tweaks/commands I can use to see what "traffic" is "occupying" my AirPort's ip address or why it is "busy" or change its pseudo-busy status?

I can't print wirelessly using Airport Express.  I have my HP printer connected to a USB hub, and the hub to the Airport Express, but when I select the HP from the printer list, my MacBook says the printer is "off-line" - even when it is not.  I've tried several USB connectors, and several different ports on my USB hub; same result.  I need to have the HP connected to the hub 'cause from there it's connected to our desktop Mac.

    Hi,
I am currently replying to this as it shows in the iChat Community.
I have asked the Hosts to move it to Snow Leopard  (you should not lose contact with it through any email links you get)
I also don't do Wirelss printing so I can't actaully help either.

  • Use Airport Express G to set up wireless printing on a N network?

I currently have a N network set up, with a First Gen Airport Extreme acting as the main hub, and the latest Airport Express N used to extend the range of the network.
However, I would now like to set up a wireless printer in another part of the house, and I have a spare first gen Airport Express G lying around - Would it be possible to make use of this Airport Express G to add the wireless printer onto my N network?
I guess my question is, is the airport express G compatabile with my N network if I just use it for wireless printing? And if so, how do I go about setting it up?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello again
I'm still having the same problem.  I go through the step by step setup for wifi but when I get to step number 5 (HTMLConfig) instead of opening the next window it takes me back to the previous one.
The step by step instructions are here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02847467&tmp_track_link=ot_faqs/top_issues/en_u...
I have also looked in the manual that came with the printer but it basically just says "follow the on screen instructions for setup when you install the CD" which I have already done.
All my software is up to date.   I have OS Mavericks and there are no updates pending.
My printer is not compatible with Airprint so I cannot use that option.  I did not use the WPS method as you instructed.  I opted for Method 3: Wireless setup using a USB connection.

  • I have an airport extreme attached to cable, then one airport express to extend the range. when i try to add an additional airport express to extend range in another area of house, can't get it to work. unility says it has found a new base station

i have an airport extreme attached to cable, then one airport express to extend the range. when i try to add an additional airport express to extend range in another area of house, can't get it to work. utility says it has found a new base station and asks if i want to use it. if i click yes, then the old setup is disabled.

Ok, thanks for clarifying which models you have. Please see the following Apple Support article on how to configure these older base stations for a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).

  • I have an Airport Express, which flashes amber, but when I go to manual set up, it says there's an error and tells me to close configuration?

I have an Airport Express, which flashes amber, but when I go to manual set up, it says there's an error and tells me to close configuration? Once I complete that, the same thing occurs, and there's another error message?

Is this a new AirPort Express, or one that you have had for some time that has now developed problems?
What function do you want the Express to perform on your network?

  • Printing wirelessly via Airport Express to DSL hub to ethernet printer?

This seems like a fairly standard set up.
My iBook prints just fine when cabled directly to the DSL (Verizon/Westell Versalink 327W) cabled to the ethernet printer, and connects wirelessly just fine through the Airport Express (AX) cabled to the DSL hub, but I can't print wirelessly.
    My questions are:
    - The hub IP is 192.168.1.1, and the printer is 192.168.1.10. I changed the AX IP (Airport Admin Utility: Network) from 10.0.1.1 addressing to 192.168.1.1 addressing, but that didn't do anything. Does this matter?
    - In Airport Admin Utility: Internet, the router address is 10.0.36.1. Does this matter? Should it be 192.168.1.X?
Note: In the Printer Setup Utility, when the iBook is cabled directly to the hub, the printer is automatically identified when I type in the printer IP address under HP Jet Direct Socket, as 'HP Laser Jet 4000 Series' is automatically and correctly selected. This does not happen when connected wirelessly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is that your wireless connection is creating a different subnet. To remedy this, configure the AirPort Express so that the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED.

  • Airport Express disconnects wired internet connection when attempting to extend Airport Extreme WiFi network

I just purchased and airport express to extend my wifi network.  My base station is an airport extreme, I have one wired connection and a wifi network.  When I go through the recommended steps to set up the express and "extend the network", the airport extreme will no longer connect to the internet via ethernet.  I have tried various settings and can't seem to resolve the problem.  Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Ok so we now have a solution to the problem.   A friend of mine came round to work this out with me last night and we were able to get it working, but it is not as easy as I had hoped.  Fisrtly we plugged the airport express into my router using the ethernet cable  (for this I am using an Airport Express Base Station") and in airport utilities selected the airport express.  In edit, we then gave the airport express a new range of IP address which did not conflict with any of the other applications that I have already assigned.  We also named the Airport Express with a distinguishable name.  We then waited for the changes to be registered then unplugged the Airport Express from the router.  I then plugged my AppleTV via HDMI into a tv to test it and selected the new wifi network with the new Airport Express distinguishable name.  I was able to watch a video that I have on my ipad directly on my tv without being connected to the internet, and was able to play Airplay presentations.
No the easiest solution, and certainly not something that anyone at Apple has talked me through in my lengthy conversations with them at Applecare.
    Hope this helps.

  • Apple AirPort Express - HP LaserJet M1120 won't print entire document

    Hi,
My first post.  I've recently purchased Airport Express and installed all necessary programmes (incl. Airport Base Station Agent and Bonjour print service) on my Win 7 Ultimate x64.
The device is set up as "Join a existing network".
Airplay works without any issues, but printing does not.
I've also installed the driver for HP LaserJet M1120 printer.
When I send something to print (regardless of the file), it won't print the entire document. Usually, it prints smaller documents (up to 10 pages) normally, but when it comes to larger documets it prints only half of the document.
I send 30 pages document to print and it prints only 15 pages. Then I need to re-send print command and again, it prints only half - 7 or 8. Printer just stops.
Sometimes i get "Error-printing", but not always.
This issue happens on all 4 PCs that I have at home all running Win 7 Ultimate x64 or Win Vista Home Premium x32.
    Any ideas?
HP Print Diagnostic Utility did not find any issues also. Says everything is OK.

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the  AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at thisiFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link. If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help: Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if your printer is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

  • Airport Express and Canon Pixma IP4500 wireless printing

    Hello,
I bought an Airport Express and set it up as an additional wireless network at an 5Ghz N mode. It's conneted to a Linksys Wireless router modem/router. Internet connectivity is fine from both iMac 24 and MacBook. Both use OSX 10.5.4.x
Airport is set up via USB with a Canon Pixma IP4500 inkjet. When connected directly to the iMac, it prints fine. When I connect the IP4500 to the Airport Express, I get an Error 300 - basically saying the printer is not responding.
The whole point of the Airport Express was a faster network for both wireless printing and playing iTunes wirelessly from the MacBook.
Any tips on what could be a common problem for this printer?
    Thanks

    I had a similar problem
I had to "add a new printer", so one printer refers to the directly connected printer and the other refers to the printer connected to the airport (bonjour).
    Greetings.

  • Airport express connects to internet, but not print server

hello all. i hope someone can help me with this. 2 days ago, my wife was able to print using her ibook/airport expess setup. today, the network diagnostics has this message: "network diagnostics was able to connect to the internet but not to the server EPSON Stylus CX3800.pdldatastream.tcp.local. this could be caused by problems with the server, or an internet problem between this computer and the server." she says this happened when she turned it on. what could be causing this? any and all help welcome. mcrat

You can reset the AirPort Express (AX) following the directions in Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ.
Then you can use AirPort Utility on your computer to configure the AX.

  • Time Capsule   Airport Extreme   Airport Express - IP Address Issues, Internet dropping...

I have a brand new Time Capsule 3TB functioning as my main wireless router from a Motorola SB6141 Cable Internet Modem.  I have a Airport Extreme and Airport Express extending the network from my Time Capsule 3TB.  After the intial setup there were no connection issues for several days.  However, yesterday I began to experience issues where the Time Capsule starting telling me that other devices on the network were trying to assign IP Addresses to change from DHCPand NAT to Bridge Mode.  What is the best solution for this?  My temporary solution is just to do a hard reset of the SB6141 which seems to alleviate the issue until the next day.  Please help!

There is definitely some issues with the SB6141 modem and the new AC version Extreme and TC.
I have recommended to several people to use a crossover cable or a small 10/100 switch.
Either is a very cheap item and I cannot promise a solution but it has helped.
Net time it happens please login with airport utility and take a few screenshots of the TC summary page and internet tab and post them here.

  • Extend Airport Express N To act as Lan

I have an newer Airport Extreme Dual Band N and a Airport Express N. I am trying to extend the WiFi network, and hook up my Dish network receiver to the Express so that it has internet access. I have tried all sorts of different configurations, but I can't seem to get it right. Is this possible, and if so, how do I do it. Thanks.

Welcome to the discussions forum Big lue.
If I understand you correctly, you want the Express to serve as a remote Ethernet port for your Dish receiver. Yes, that is possible, provided your Express is within your Extreme's wireless network's reception range.
Configure the Express to join your wireless network created by your Extreme. Use Airport Utility and select the Express. Airport pane > Wireless tab > Wireless Mode: "Join a wireless network".
Select your wireless network and click the box "allow Ethernet clients".
Enter your wireless network security settings.
The Internet pane will then display "Configure Using Wireless Network". For "Configure IPv4" select "using DHCP".
    Restart.
In this configuration, it is not possible to use the Express to "extend" the wireless network so it acts as an access point for wireless clients. You may however think of it as "extending" your wireless network to your Dish receiver, via Ethernet. The terminology may have led to some confusion.

  • Airport Express signal of Macs drops when you leave the room

My problem is as described in the title: whenever I'm in the livingroom (where the AE is), the signal is fine. A few minutes after walking out of the room and trying to get onto the network from a nearby (as in: a few feet away) room, the signal will drop and won't come back again.
I'm having this problem on a 2006 MacBook and a PowerBook G4, but not on my iPod Touch, of which I've tried both the 1G and 2G version. On the iTouch, the signal is just fine - even on the attic and on my balcony.
Besides, the AirTunes signal drops out quite a lot when playing songs.
I'm using the N-version of the AE, and it's functioning as an AirTunes station and a N-signal router with B- and G-signal support. The MacBook spins Snow Leopard, the Powerbook good ol' Leopard.

It is very possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the immediate area that is preventing your 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) from providing a good clean signal beyond the livingroom.
I suggest you perform a simple site survey. I normally would recommend using iStumbler, but since you are using Snow Leopard the current release of this utility won't work. Although, not free, another very good utility, that provide similar functionality, would be AirRadar. You would use AirRadar to determine if other Wi-Fis are operating in your area. In addition, you would want to look for those that are operating at the strongest signal levels and what radio channels those are operating on.
If you don't want to go the route of purchasing AirRadar, the other (free) option would be to run through each of the available radio channels until you find one where your Macs get the best signal. Also, since you do have the PowerBook running Leopard, I'd give iStumbler a try as well.

  • Slow Airport Express blinking green - network traffic when all devices off?

My G5 imac and airport express are lightning fast when everything boots up, slow as molasses later. The airport express is 3 feet away from my G5, and hooked up by ethernet to a cable modem.
I've also noticed that my airport express is blinking green, showing network traffic, when both my imac and ipad are turned off - even though I have the airport express set to be hidden, password protected and limited to certain airport IDs. Is it possible that my airport are being hijacked, or is there another reason for the variability in speed? My MacScan and iAntiVirus report no malware or cookies or viruses.
imac intel Mac OS X (10.6.4) airport express 5.5.1

I've also noticed that my airport express is blinking green, showing network traffic, when both my imac and ipad are turned off - even though I have the airport express set to be hidden, password protected and limited to certain airport IDs.
The cable company sends continuous, almost non-stop garbage down the line. The tech guy at the cable company would say that the devices are "associating". That's why you see the green light flashing. You might want to turn off the "flash on activity" option and simply have it glow solid green...unless you like to watch the flashing, or you want to switch to DSL.
Try turning off the anti-virus to see if that helps wireless perform better. Most anti-virus applications do more harm than good. Otherwise, look for wireless interference from another nearby wireless network, cordless phone, or even that new security system at the neighbors.

  • I currently use a Time Capsule for my wi fi. I would like to extend its range and have been looking at boosters. Is Airport Express the best booster solution when using the Time Capsule or is there a better solution?

I currently use a Time Capsule for my wi-fi (2008). I would like to extend its range. While there are many boosters that can do the job, what is the best option? How is Airport Express as an option?

The Time Capsule (TC) can have its wireless network extended by another TC, an 802.1n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), or 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn).
If your TC is a simultaneous dual-band version, only another TC or AEBSn will be able to extend both radios. The AXn can only support one radio (2.4 or 5 GHz) at a time.
