Airport Express is no longer able to extend my Airport network.
After the 7.6.1 upgrade, my Airport Express is no longer able to extend my Airport network. I didn't change any configuration, but as I was confirming the configuration options in Airport Utility, I noticed that the option for the Airport Extreme to "allow this network to be extended" is missing and that my Airport Express had been changed to client mode. I really need the capability of extending the range of my network, it worked before the firmware upgrade, so how can I get it back? The hardware are both less than a year old (I bought them in the summer of 2011).
I suggest downloading Airport Utility 5.6
It was released the sameday as 6.0 but it doesn't have the features you used to have as you just found out.

If you want to extend, using wireless only, the 802.11g Express doesn't support this.
However, if you want to use bridge mode over Ethernet or Powerline adapters then this is supported. -
I have an old airport express ( 1st one ever I think) up until today I was able to use it with iTunes and also Airfoil to stream music. Today I cannot stream music from my MacBook Pro 2008 ( OS X 10.8.3) Airfoil sees the Airport Express but cannot connect, iTunes see it, but will not connect. When I try to connect with Airfoil the error message is "Airfoil was unable to connect to the remote speaker "little fish". Please check the remote speaker and try again."
iTunes just tries to connect and then times out.
I have AU 5.6 in order to use the old AE. It sees the AE and give me a summary page. But if I try "manual set up" or the "continue" button - I get "reading the Airport Express configuration" and then eventually "An error occured while reading the configurarion. Make sure your Apple Wi-Fi base station is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6753) "
I tried a soft reset, no help.
I tried a hard reset and I was able to see the new airport express and it allowed me to set it up again, then it restarted and everything was the same as before I reset.
I can stream to the Airport Express from my iPhone and my iPad
Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong?It appears that the printer is OK and is on the network. Eventually you may want to set a static IP address for it, but let's get things working first.
The first thing I would try would be to reset the printing system on all the problem Macs:
- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click the print queue area and select Reset Printing System.
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.
If this does not do it there may be something going on with the router. I have a few ideas if this is required. Let me know.

After updating Time Capsule to 7.7.2, Airport Expresses can no longer connect
After I update the Time Capsule firmware to 7.7.2, my three Airport Expresses can no longer connect to the Time Capsule (their orange lights blink and they appear inaccessible in the Airport Utility). When I downgrade, they are able to connect fine.
They are connecting to the Time Capsule over my 5GhZ wireless network.

Things can get confusing pretty quickly since there are 3 different versions of the AirPort Express.
If by "old", you mean you have Model No A1084 or A1088 AirPort Express (look at the label on the side of the device for the Model No), it cannot be used with the "Extend a wireless network" feature of other newer Apple routers.
If your AirPort Extreme is "square" shaped with rounded corners, then the "old" AirPort Express will not work with your AirPort Extreme using the "Extend a wireless network" settings.
You could use a "previous version" AirPort Express, Model No A1264 to "Extend", or the "new" AirPort Express, Model No A1392, for that purpose.
If your AirPort Extreme is a simultaneous dual band product, then the "new" Express would be able to "extend" both bands. The "previous" AirPort Express (Model A1264) would be able to extend only one band, since it is not a dual band device. -

You can configure the AirPort Express to "join" the wireless network that is being provided by the Netgear router for use with AirTunes.
But, the Express will not be able to "extend" the range of your wireless network.
The "extend a wireless network" feature only works if you have an Apple router as your main device. This feature is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers. -

One AirPort will connect to your router with a short Ethernet cable and be configured to "create" a wireless network.
The second AirPort will be configured to "extend" a wireless network. -
WiFi no longer able to even see wireless networks
At some point (I believe after installing an update) my iPhone is no longer able to find any wireless networks. It will just continue to "spin" on the choose a network screen and never finds any. Trust me when I say the wireless access point is working and isn't the problem. I used to be able to connect to it and haven't changed anything. Plus there are other iPhone and iTouch users in my house that use it without a problem as well.
Here are the things I've tried:
1. Switch to airplane mode then switch back
2. Reset Network Settings in the general\reset menu
3. Upgrade to the latest and greatest iphone OS
4. Finally, I did a reset to factory defaults losing all of my apps and settings. THIS WORKED until I did a restore of my backup to get my apps and data back.
Is there any way to get this working again without losing everything and starting over?This is a user to user help forum only.

If no change after resetting network settings on your iPhone and/or after restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, your iPhone has a hardware problem with the wireless card or with something else. The iPhone includes a one year warranty.
Apple's solution if no change after what was copied from my previous post is an exchange under warranty since your iPhone has a hardware problem. With a hardware problem the only solution is an exchange under warranty. If there is no Apple store nearby, you can call AppleCare. If you have purchased the AppleCare extended warranty, the exchange will be shipped to your door the next business day after calling. If you haven't purchased the AppleCare extended warranty, if you pay $29 the exchange will be shipped to your door the next business day after calling. You must give AppleCare a credit card in case you don't return your existing iPhone within 10 days after the exchange under warranty is received. You use the same box to return your existing iPhone with the return shipping label located below the shipping label to you. Can the WAN port be used as LAN when AirPort Express (2nd Generation) is setup to join a wireless network? (IE: 2 LAN ports)
I haven't been able to get a clear answer on this. I believe the 1st generation would act as WAN/LAN depending on setting, but what happens with the 2nd generation?
Thank you for your time.If the Express joins a wireless network wirelessly, in other words its WAN port isn't connected to anything, the correct way to connect a wired client to it is by using its LAN port.
I don't know what would happen if you were to connect a wired client to its WAN port instead — it's just not supposed to be used for that purpose. It won't permanently break anything if you were to try it though. If you were, the worst that would occur is that your network would become unresponsive as packets continuously traverse its WAN port in a circular fashion, which might require that you power down your router to reset your whole network.
If you are already using your Express's LAN port and you need another, the way to provide more ports is to purchase an inexpensive ($10 or so) switch. Connect it to the LAN port and as many other pieces of equipment as the switch's available number of ports.
You're correct about the first generation with the single Ethernet port. It could be used in either capacity depending on its configuration. -

Not necessarily. You could use the "Create Network" feature of your MBP's built-in AirPort card to provide an Ad-hoc wireless network for local wireless-capable computers to connect to.

I'm not sure what you mean. You can't find the express to set it up.. or you can't find the network created by the express?

Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Please advise.
If you have not already done so, I suggest that you temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express that goes to the Tivo box.
Instead, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the Express. See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop.
If you still cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working correctly.

Currently use Airport Express -1st Generation-to access internet -purchased 2014 Airport Extreme base station -can I import Express back up configuration to keep current settings . Or is it best to do new Airport Extreme as a new Network .
Just spoke with Cisco about the router. They said the router is compatible with the E1500. They suggested that I contact Apple to see if their default IP address was that same as the router (192.168.1.1). They told me I would have to change it if that was the case. How would I do that?

Airport Express will no longer connect to my network or be found in iTunes
I've had an Airport Express connected to powered speakers for airplay for about two years. Worked great until yesterday when iTunes told me it could no longer find my AE on the network. I tried a factory reset but the air utility wasn't able to find the AE even after several rescans. It was able to find it when connecting with an ethernet cable, but was never able to verify the network wirelessly after a restart. Thinking that the AE had gone bad, I bought another.
Unfortunately, I'm having the same issues setting up:
Air Utility cannot find the AE wirelessly to set up. It can only find it when plugged in via ethernet
I can go through the set up process just fine via ethernet. Several times it cannot verify the network (error 10057) after unplugging the hard line, but several times I have gotten a green light, only to recieve either a 15006 error or a "Itunes could not find the AE device on your network error" when attempting the do airplay in itunes
After the 15006 error, the AE dissapears from Airport Utility and I have to start over
The AE DOES appear as a connected device in my router's configuration utility
Here's what I've tried:
Factory resets of both the AE (old and new) and my router (model M1424WR)
Moving the AE and powered speakers into the same room as the router to confirm that it's not a range issue
Tweaking router settings
Turning off my router security key to see if that was interfering with the AE's wireless connection
What else?Try loging into your router settings and just change the name of your network. That usually works for me.

Hi, I run a small motel and I am trying to extend the wireless network from the office to the rooms in the next building.
I have an AirPort Xtreme connected to my router with an ethernet cable and it works fine. I have then connected an AirPort Express to this in the next bulding wirelessly (as i cant run an ethernet cable outside) which extends the network over all but the last 2 rooms in the next building. There are bick walls so it sruggles over the distance. I realise I cant connect another airport express wirelessly to extend the network further but can I connect another Airport Express using and ethernet cable to the exisiting Aiport Express to extend the network that extra distance?You can do this, but as you might imagine, that is going to place even more of a load on the weakest link....the wireless "hop"......between your AirPort Extreme and the current AirPort Express.
So, things will slow down even more. Whether or not that will be acceptable to your guests is open to question. Light browsing and email should be OK. Someone trying to download a large file is going to be waiting longer than they might consider normal.
Things like this, you simply cannot predict in advance. Might be a good idea to understand the store's return policy if the new Express puts more of load on the network than is expected.
