Airport express light won't stay on

Earlier today my neighborhood had a power outage. I had everything plugged into working surge protectors but my Airport Express (couple years old) stopped working. Each time I plug it in, the green light comes on for a very brief flicker and then the indicator light goes out completely. Nothing comes back on and nothing happens. Resetting doesn't seem to do anything.
Is it fried? Do I just need to buy a new one? I have 2 teenagers with ibooks that have lost their wireless internet now.
Any suggestions on what this means or happened are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

yes indeed it happens quite frequently actually.

Not knowing which wireless keyboard you bought, it is difficult to be specific.  but ...
it is quite normal for the keyboard's power light not to stay on - it is a way of conserving battery power.
    Try this:
    turn you keyboard off
on your iPad go to Settings > Bluetooth
if your keyboard is listed under Devices, then touch the little blue i to its right and choose Forget this Device
now reset your iPad:  hold both the Home and Power buttons down for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears, let go promptly when the Apple logo appears and wait another 30 seconds for your iPad to turn itself on
After your iPad is back on again go back to Settings > Bluetooth
now turn your keyboard back on and see if it appeard under Now Discoverable
if it doesn't read your keyboard guide to figure out how to put it into Discovery mode
touch the listing for your keyboard under Now Discoverable, it should now appear under Devices
touch the listing for you keyboard under Devices, and choose to pair with it.

  • Airport Express light went out, stopped working.

Airport Express light went out. iMac says the connection is "excellent," but it's not working (I use it to stream audio) and is getting very warm. Did it die?

The usual cause of a dark LED is a failed AirPort Express. The reason your iMac reports an "excellent" connection is a mystery, but would be explained if it is actually connected to a different wireless network.
The only potential remedy is a "hard reset" (see below). In rare occasions, repetitive and persistent attempts have been known to revive an ailing Express. There isn't anything else you can do. A "factory defaults reset" is identical, but is performed by keeping its reset button depressed while connecting it to power. Try that also.
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then gently press and hold its tiny reset button. Don't apply any more force than required to feel a tactile click.  Keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

  • HT1572 the charging light won't stay on - I have to close and re-open the I Tunes app

I have a new HP laptop. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but my charging light won't stay on. I have to keep closing and re-opening the I Tunes program. Is the battery shot or what?
    Thanks.

Depending on how often you use your shuffle (how many charging cycles it's been through), a 2nd gen shuffle from 2008 could have a worn out battery.
Battery charging is not dependent on iTunes running.  If you connect it to the laptop without iTunes running (or even installed), it should charge.  If you connected the USB cable to one of those USB power adapters, it should charge.  It just needs a USB 2.0 port with power.
When you connect it and run iTunes, does the shuffle still appear in the iTunes sidebar?  Can you still sync it from empty to full?

  • My airport express light is flashing orange, not sure how to fix this, can someone assist pls?

my airport express light is flashing orange
can someone help to fix this?  please

Open AirPort Utility - it's in your Mac's Utilities folder. Click the amber dot. It will tell you the reason it's asking for attention.

  • Airport express light is green but is not working

My airport express is on,light is green, all of my computers see it though Airport Utility however the computer that is 2 feet away has no internet abilities. It however see the house network, sign in but no not able to communicate with other house computers as well as the internet. 'The lights are on but no one is at home'

If all the other computers can connect to the Internet, try power cycling your entire network.
Power everyhing down on the network...all devices, order is not important
Wait a moment, then start the modem first and let it run a moment by itself
Then start your AirPort Express the same way
Continue starting the devices the same way until everything is back up
Check for Internet connections on all devices
    Please post on your results

  • Airport Express Light Out

I came home today to find myself disconnected from my Airport Express. When I went to check on it the light was neither green nor orange nor flashing. It was just off. I tried moving it to another outlet to test the outlets operability to no solution. Any ideas as to what may have suddenly went wrong with it? Thanks!

  • I have an old Airport Express that won't connect/set up with Yosemite. Any help appreciated

Hi, as the title suggests I have an old Airport Express that I have always used wirelessly to connect to my hifi but now that I have upgraded to Yosemite it won't connect via Airport Utility  6.3.4 and Yosemite won't let me use Airport Utility 5.6  Seems I'm stuck between a rock and hard place! Ethernet is no use as the hifi is in another room. Yosemite is running on an iMac and is connected wirelessly to Virgin Broadband. Thanks, Alex.

If the AirPort Express is very old, such as the original 802.11b/g - only models A1084 or A1088 you will need a commensurately older version of both AirPort Utility and OS X to configure it. Those models were discontinued about seven years ago and support for them is gone. Ethernet won't make a difference anyway.
You may find instructions or links to web sites with instructions to modify OS X in an effort to circumvent that restriction. I cannot emphasize enough just how bad an idea that would be.

  • Airport Express light and temperature

last thursdaymorning there was a power failure at my appartment and caused my AE fail to connect to my computer. He just kept blinking the green light.
after i got back from work the green light was burning solid but still no connection from my computer.
after done a reset to factory defaults there was still no connection with my computer, where normally he always gets to connect.
also when i pulled the AE from out of the wall socket it felt really hot. can anyone tell me what can be the issue here?
i can still connect to the internet by plugging the internet cable directly into my computer, but i cant use Airtunes right now.
iMac G%   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Airport Express and internet (without 2nd router)

I assume you have not enabled the status light mode where the green light indicates network activity - a setting found by clicking on "Base Station Options" found under the Airport tab of the Airport Admin Utility?
If not, it sounds like the LED status light is marginally defective. Yes, I'd expect Apple would provide you with a warranty replacement for your Airport Express.

  • Airport express light not coming on

when connected to outlet and modem. does this mean the airport express has suddenly and completely stopped working?  will a hard factory reset fix this?

If the AirPort Express is plugged into a working AC socket and the light is not on, unfortunately the power supply section of the AirPort Express has very likely failed.
You can try a Factory Default Reset if you want, but it will be of no use if the power supply has failed.
    Unplug the Express from power
    Wait a minute
Hold in the reset button on the Express first, and keep holding it in for another 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back into AC power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart
If the reset has somehow ressurrected the Express, you will see a solid amber light for about 30-40 seconds that will change to slow blinking at about 45 seconds. That would be your signal that the Express has been reset and now can be configured again.
If the light remains off, the Express will need to be replaced.

  • Airport Express lights dead

I have just returned from holiday, to find one of my Airport Express stations "dead". It is not showing any lights at all, neither amber nor green. My other Airport Express station, which acts as my base station is working fine, but this second one which was used to play music in a different room, and to extend the range of the base station, seems to have completely died.
Anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem, or how to determine if it really is completely dead. It was connected to a surge protector, which was left connected to the mains whilst I was away.

If the status light doesn't go on, the unit is indeed dead.
I don't think these devices are repairable. If you return one to Apple under warranty, I suspect they simply replace it and throw the old one away. If it isn't under warranty, your Apple service center will probably tell you to buy a new one.

  • HT4600 Airport Express light is solid green but I can not get on the internet.  Any clues as to what is wrong?

Airport Exopress light is solid green, but I can not get on the internet.  Does anyone have a suggestion how to fix this?

Would you please provide some more information about your current network so that we can help you? For example, is your AirPort Express the only router in your current network configuration? That is, is it connected directly to a broadband modem or to another router upstream of it? Regardless, what is the make & model of this modem?
When changing network equipment or when setting it up for the first time, it is always a good idea to perform a completer power recycle of your networking equipment. Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for the details.

  • Time Capsule with Airport Express, AirExp won't go to solid green

My Time Capsule is working fine, solid green light. My Airport express will not sync to Time Capsule, blinking amber light. Airport Express worked fine with Linksys router; but, can't get it to work, green light, with Time Capsule. The Air Express is a couple of years old. Is that the reason? Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Then the version of your TC and your Express will show up on the Airport Utility menu....
Just click on the Express and it will show you the version of the software for the Express.
If not, I can't help you anymore than this.
    Sorry...

  • Macbook Air (Lion) won't connect to Airport Express (and won't remember network)

My new Macbook Air 13, with Lion, will not connect to my Airport Express.  It throws the following error:  "A connection timeout occured"
This Airport Express is setup as a bridge.  So it extends my wireless router.
The new Macbook air sees this setup as 2 seperate WIFI networks.  It will connect to one (the router), but will not connect to the other one (the airport).  It will then not remember the router, so each time it restarts or wakes from sleep, I have to manually reconnect to the correct one.
For reference.  I have 4 other wifi devices in this household.  A win 7 laptop, an IPad 2, an iphone, and a Macbook pro with Leopard.  All 4 of them are working as intended.  They see one wifi network, connect to it (and move between the two points as necessary), and they remember their connections.
    Any thoughts or advice?

Glad it's not just me. I have D-Link and TP-Link routers set up in the same or a similar way. My iPads, iPods and Windows laptops all show a single SSID and switch between them happily. My new 13" Air was showing two networks (2 SSIDs) and wireless was patchy at best. I changed one router to be N only and that improved things somewhat, but still loosing the network. In order to see which router was being used I altered the SSID of one. The "N-only" router is giving the best coverage with a strong signal - but then it just drops out and the wireless icon shows "Searching". Turning wifi off then back on fixes the connection.
When it comes to internet browsing my iPad 2 is significantly faster than the Air.
I'm also having trouble keeping or attaining connections to my Windows shares, drop-out, even when I still have internet connectivity.
