Airport Express made monitor look weird?

I was trying to install a new Airport Express yesterday. At some point in the process, all my system colors changed: first they all had an overlay of deep green, then grey (with a return to a very old wallpaper which has never been used on the current machine), then back to deep green, over everything. I checked all the monitor profiles and so on, and then did a Time Machine restore from before I had installed the Airport Express software, but nothing worked. The Airport Express itself was plugged into an electric plug; it was sitting close to the monitor but NOT plugged into the computer or the modem, and Wi-Fi was not on. But when I unplugged the Airport Express from the electric plug, suddenly my display was back to normal. Before I try this again, does anyone have an explanation or suggestions?

Your AirPort Express Base Station, like any wireless router, is a source of RF energy, albeit a very small amount. Nonetheless, your monitor may be susceptible to any nearby RF source ... especially if it is an older CRT (TV) vs. an LCD (Flat Panel).

  • Airport Express made Linksys adapter not funtion

So here is my problem. I have a Dell Inspiron 8200(?) with a Linksys WPC54GS adapter. I just bought the Airport Express (AE) to bridge my music to my receiver but now I cannot connect to the internet at all through my Dell. I have a Netgear router that I have used for years and after I could not get the AE set up I put everything back the way it was before and I cannot connect to my old network, or any network for that matter. I can't get Linksys or my ISP to help so I am in a severe bind. Any information on this would help out alot.
    Thanks

Hello ross115. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Let's see if we can get your Dell connected to the Internet.
    Please try the following.
o Power-down the modem, unplug the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), and power-down your Dell.
o While everything is powered down, perform a "factory default" reset on the AX.
o After the AX resets, it will be back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration. Go ahead and unplug the AX.
o If not already, plug the AX into the modem using an Ethernet cable.
o Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Plug-in the AX; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
o Power-up the Dell and try to access the Internet. Did it work?

  • Airport Express Network monitor

I want to know if there is a program available that will log the web sites accessed through my network that I have set up using Airport Express. The Airport Utility pretty much only tells me the ip address and time of a log in, log out.

Welcome to the discussions forum goyet4.
OpenDNS will store all the unique domain requests from your network within the last two weeks, and it's free.
If two weeks isn't enough, $5 buys a year's worth.

  • Activity Monitor looks weird

Activity Monitor on my friend's MacBook isn't displaying right. The graph for "show cpu history" looks like it's cut in half with a white line of pixils. Weird. Any ideas? (The dock icon looks like that – with the line – too.
    (I don't think I can add attachments, but here's a screenshot.)

Still haven't seen that on the 8 Core Mac Pros!

  • Purchased Airport Express- Do I need to upgrade OS?

I have wireless internet and wanted to secure it with a password. The reason is my neighbors who I don't like and don't get along with (to put it mildly)- have been jumping on my wireless signal and getting a free ride- which gets me mad. For the past couple of months i've been trying to secure my line with my verizon/ Westell router. I have no trouble connecting with the PC but when it comes to the Mac- the prompt box comes up with the message- "There was an error joining the network". I spoke with the techs and they said the router doesn't work with macs and I would be better off purchasing airport express to solve the problem.
I just purchased Airport Express and was looking at the box and noticed the fine print saying requires Mac OS X v10.4 or later. Do I actually have to update the OS or have others used it with no problem?
I've been reading other posts and finding out to upgrade to Tiger would be $125 for the OS system and my funds are limited. Any alternatives?
My setup is a ibook G4 with OS X 10.3.9.
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to explain my situation and hopefully provided enough information to work with. If you need more- let me know. All replies are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    OK,
I'm presuming that you can successfully see and connect to the router from the Mac when wireless security is off. This would rule out any issues with incorrect SSIDs, MAC filtering, DHCP disabled, etc.
So use WPA-PSK on the router, key your password in plaintext. There's a WPA Group Rekey Interval below the password field, default of 3600. No idea what it is, either leave it or set it to '0' which turns it off.
Using the default SSID is fine. Using a WEP password is not as secure as WPA if you have the NSA living next door, it's also a lot harder to setup on a Mac.
So you should be able to connect from the Mac, select the wireless network and ensure it prompts you for a WPA password - you can change the password type in the pop-up menu. And you should be good to go.
Otherwise it might be the Keychain.
Fire up Keychain Access, and immediately you're looking with an item with the name of your wireless network. There should be a description of "AirPort Network password" next to it. Select it and click the red delete button at the top. Then try to connect to the network again. Use plaintext password just like you keyed it on the router.
There is a small chance that this will still not work, that the AirPort software is still trying to connect to the network with an old (or no) password (no idea where it stores it, it's not in the keychain any longer), although this blights OSX 10.4 a lot more than 10.3. To try again and get round this, when you choose a network from the AirPort menu, select "Other..." rather than your network name. Then in the dialog box that pops up, select your network and the appropriate security - WPA Personal - and key your password.
If you have success let us know, if things don't work, post back everything that happened in the best detail you can and it there's nothing obvious we'll look at getting the AE to supply your wireless access.

  • Airport Express Optical Audio Output: huge clicks... Solutions

I'm using Airport Express to stream ALE audio to a Chime DAC, via the Toslink optical connector. Every time iTunes stops playing for more than about 5 seconds, a huge click is sent to the digital output, which is... you can imagine. Very annoying.
I don't understand how digital silence (a series of consecutive 0's whose equivalent is 0 volts) flipping to actual 0 Volts (as in... the bloody circuit is off) would produce a click in any properly designed product! Hi-Fi amps have built in ramp functions on the power rails to avoid that on the speaker outputs since the 50's !!!
Is there a way to configure Airport Express (I've looked in Airport Utility) so that it keeps the interface active - in other words, sending digital black whenever audio from iTunes is not present at the input? The thing is plugged into a wall socket anyway! I don't see any conservation of energy in switching it off, if it's done in such a rude and annoying way.
    Any ideas?
Any Apple techs ever read these forum entries?
The headphone output of all Macs since the switch to Intel is flawed, and I have yet to see ONE reaction from them to the thousands of posts on this forum about that subject.
Just thought I'd waste a bit more of my time here again.
But I'd love to hear from anyone with a decent solution.

I apologize for my subject topic not ending with a question mark. I could swear I typed one in. So again, sorry if you got here thinking I had found a solution to this.

  • Airport express 6.3 speakers will not connect in itunes sometimes

I set up 2 airport express for a friend and they are conf to connect to his wireless net. Both work fine with printing and Airtunes speakers will play from several tested iPhones. However iTunes gives me a connection error when trying to play to the speakers. Tried this from several macs including my own macbook, all with itunes 10.1.1.
Funny thing is at home I can play to my own airport speakers (also version 6.3) from itunes. same macbook that cant play at my friends house.
    Any ideas?
I Tried reconfiguring, turning airtunes off/on, changing the stations names... but no luck.

    airport express 6.3
Looks like the latest firmware is 7.5.2.
Any reason you have not updated?

  • Airport express + news leecher in windows

    good day to you
    i have new airport express
i use the program newsleecher for downloading things with my vista in parallels.
when i had my old router i used to open port (nat) for all my downloading services
now i don't know what to do
where do i get the ip of the windows computer (it's the same as my mac?) i used to look in the sharing option
and also how do i open a port in the airport express? i looked in the airport utility and i see in the advanced tab - port mapping but there's a lot of services and i don't know how to do it
    thanks

Parallels has a few ways of setting up network to your virtual operating system.
In your setup I would use bridged ethernet setup. This make your parallels desktop a standalone computer on your network.
then from within vista you can use the networking control panel to assign your vista pc a static ip address.
then you can go to your airport utility and configure your base station. select your base station then manually configure, click in the internet icon in the toolbar followed by the NAT tab. Then click the 'configure port mappings' button.
click the + sign and then you can add a custom service using whichever tcp/udp port you need and forward that to the ip you setup in vista.

  • HP Laserjet Pro 100 MFP175a with Airport Express

Can anyone tell me if its possible to use a HP Laserjet Pro 100 MFP175a with an airport Express ?  Am looking at connecting the printer directly to the airport express (via the USB socket on the airport express) and using the home wi-fi network to let all my other apple devices use it for printing (iPhone, Ipad & Mac Mini).
    Thanks

    Hello reddys,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I see that you would like to learn if you can use your Laserjet Pro 100 MFP175a with an Apple AirPort Express.
I have included the document Share Your Printer on a Network with Apple AirPort for you.  It has a section for those running Windows OS and another section for those using Mac OS X.  At the end of the document there is also an FAQ section.

  • How to get express to only look for in house extreme base

How do I get a airport express to only look for the extreme base in my house only

    Hello:
There used to be a way (through settings) to limit distance of transmission.  I looked for it when I read your question, but it seems to be gone.

  • Airport Express and the Epson Stylus DX7400

    Hello Experts!
I bought an Airport Express yesterday, and have successfully connected it to my home wireless network - I can see the Airport Express and modify settings wirelessly from my Mac (and indeed a PC as well). So far so good.
I have an Epson Stylus DX7400 printer/scanner. This prints perfectly when directly connected via the USB cable to the Mac (and a PC). Also good news.
However, when plugged into the Airport Express, it is simply not recognised in the Airport Utility and the Airport Utility shows "none" against USB printers where I presume it should show my printer in the list. I have upgraded to the latest firmwire, tried numerous re-boots and re-connections of both the Airport Express and the printer, but it simply does not seem to recognise that the printer is connected to the Airport Express.
Has anyone else has this problem? Is this printer incompatible with the Airport Express? I looked at this unofficial compatibility list (http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/1013.html) but the printer is not listed as either compatible or incompatible.
If anyone has in fact got this printer to work with the Airport Express, I'd be interested to know how you did it, please!
    Many thanks,
    Andy.

Are you able to confirm that this is a known issue with the standard printer driver, and that using your Gutenprint suggestion is a known fix for this problem with Airport Express?
Yes. Click here for more information.
If I'm installing Gutenprint on the Mac, and subject to your response on the questions above, will that somehow also help the PC?
    No.
Finally, if you would be kind enough to note some brief instructions of the key steps involved in using Gutenprint to solve my problem, that would be much appreciated!

  • AirPort Express and AirPlay mayhem

Ok so I have a 500GB Time Capsule (about three years old) broadcasting a wireless network and connected by ethernet to a DLINK DSL2740B router in my study and an AirPort Express in my room extending the wireless network wirelessly and for AirPlay. I have been using a 1st-generation AirPort Express for years without an issue until the new AE came out and there was a firmware update to mine. Shortly after, it began cutting out intermittently and AirPlay stutters every 20 seconds or so.
Even though I thought it extremely suspicious that after a firmware update and new generation AirPort Express release my old AE starts cutting out, I went and bought a 2nd-generation AirPort Express (hey, they look prettier). It worked like a charm for the first two days, but now it is cutting out and stuttering while trying to use AirPlay from both my MacBook Pro and my iPhone 4S. Not only that, but when I look in AirPort Utility on my Mac, it says that the connection to the new AE is either "poor" or "fair". Seeing as I am sitting about three steps away from the thing, I don't think that's right. Internet speed seems to be largely unaffected.
This is driving me crazy, any help would be appreciated.

A couple of more questions for clarification. Does your Actiontec router also provide Wi-Fi? Is your AirPort Express, which is connected by Ethernet to the Actiontec, configured as a roaming network or to join the Actiontec's wireless network?

  • Airport Express: Limit Access Time to Network

    Hello,
I was wondering if there's a way to limit the times my airport express allows my network to be available? (i.e. M-F 9am-6pm)
I looked in the "Help" sections and it says that under "Airport" => "Access Control" I should see "Timed Access" but I don't see it.
I found this discussion: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2346346&tstart=0 and it says the same thing but I don't see it still.
Is this a feature of Airport Expresses? Maybe I have an old Airport Express?
    Thanks

I looked in the "Help" sections and it says that under "Airport" => "Access Control" I should see "Timed Access" but I don't see it.
Sorry, but "Timed Access" is only available with the 802.11n versions of the AirPorts.

  • Airport Express Network Name

After setting up my new Airport Express, when I look for my WiFi network on my iPad, I see my full name as the WiFi network name. How do I change the Network name?

I assume that you have AirPort Utility installed on your iPad. If not, download and install it from here:
    App Store - AirPort Utility
    Tap AirPort Utility
    Tap the AirPort Express icon
    Tap Edit
    Tap Network
Tap the Network name to edit the name as you wish
    Tap Done
    Tap Done

  • Set up first generation airport express?

I have just bought new Airport Extreme and would like to use  first generation express to extend the network (even if it slows down the extended region a bit) but the utility does not let me configure it. Any ideas will br apreciated!

Let's make sure that you have a 1st Gen AirPort Express.
Please look on the side of the Express for the model number. The 1st Gen is A1264.
    Is this what you have?
Which version of the AirPort Utility are you using?
