AirPort Express Network Set-Up Help

Here is what I have:
- Two AirPort Express
- One iMac G4 700 MHz Running OSX 10.3.9 NO AirPort Card
- One PowerBook G4 768 MHz Running OSX 10.2.8 WITH Airport Card
- One 2WIRE 1701HG DSL Modem/Wireless gateway with 4 ethernet ports
- One "newish" USB printer
I want to be able to:
- roam around the house with my PowerBook
- stream tunes off my iMac to one at a minimum and maybe two home stereos
- share the USB printer to allow for printing from the PowerBook
Here is how I have working:
- I am ethernet wired from the iMac to the 2WIRE dsl Modem and that's how I am browsing now
- my USB printer is hard wired to my iMac
- I can browse from PowerBook with an AirPort connection to the 2WIRE gateway
- I can print from the PowerBook to the printer hooked to the iMac
How do I integrate the AirPort Express Base Stations?
Can the iTunes stream go down through the ethernet to the 2WIRE and then trhough the air to the AirPort Express? Or do I have to stream through the ethernet through the wired router side of the 2WIRE box and out the ethernet to the first AirPort Express, through the air and then into the second AirPort Express
I started configuring the new AirPort Expresses by connecting them via ethernet but find that once they are set up I can not see them to make configuration changes (but I can see them but not configure them from the PowerBook).
Of Course the problem lies with the 2WIRE device but how do I get around it?

You can configure both Airport Express devices as wireless clients to the existing wireless network created by the 2Wire wireless router. To set this up, follow the instructions posted here by David Lovell (which apply equally to Macs and PCs):
David Lovell, "Airtunes for XP with a Wired/Wireless network" #1, 09:05pm Jan 8, 2005 CDT
Both your iMac (via its cabled connection) and your Powerbook (via its Airport connection) will communicate with both Airport Express devices via their common connection to the 2Wire router.

  • Nintendo 3DS not connecting during online games to Macbook Pro or Airport Express Network. Please Help.

I would love to post this question to the Nintendo Support forums, but I'm abroad right now and it seems I am denied from the forums if I try to log in.
My Nintendo 3DS's internet features all work perfectly fine except when it comes down to directly playing a match with other users. For example, Mario Kart 7 will download Spot pass data like normal every day, but everytime I tray to play a match online, the software gives me an error. Same thing when I try to connect with people on Animal Crossing: New Leaf. My previous linksys router back in the states worked fine. The security was WEP I remember. Now I've got myself an Airport express and neither it nor my Macbook Pro (when sharing is turned on) will permit me direct online access to other users like I stated above. I even disabled security and went with an open network for a few minutes and was faced with the same exact problem.
I know this is very specific and mainly involves a none apple product, but I'm just curious what is different about the Apple wireless networks I'm setting up that is preventing me from nothing but direct realtime interactions with other users.
Any advice or knowledge about Apple security or wireless networks would really help me out. There are only so many settings I can tweak in the Airport Express so I'm sure it can't be too difficult, but I don't even know where to start.

I guess it's a problem with NAT (Network Address Translation). My ISP is Vectant Ltd. so maybe I should get a hold of them. If anyone has any work arounds that maybe they used with other game consoles (Xbox Live, PSN), I could really use the suggestion. I really like the Airport express and assumed it would be compatible, but I guess not.

  • Using my Actiontec modem's wifi, it doesn't find my new airport express.  When I use the new airport express network I created error message says ip address is wrong.  Help setting this new airport express up

Using my Actiontec modem's wifi, it doesn't find my new airport express.  Using the new airport express network I just set up it says the ip address is invalid.  What can I do to overcome this blinking amber light and error messages?

You need to begin by configuring the AEX to Join an existing network (Bridge Mode.) You can then connect to it using Wi-Fi, but the AEX will not extend your existing network.
If you can connect the AEX to your existing router using Ethernet, then you could use it to Create a new network. Otherwise, if you want to extend your existing network you will need to get a Wireless Access Point - WAP - from a non-Apple product like D-Link.

  • I just bought an airport express. i set it up and was able to be detected by my macbook, but i still cant connect wirelessly. the same goes when i tried my iphone. please help!

    Is the status light green?
Your Airport device may be in Bridge Mode.
    Airport Utility 6:
Open Airport Utility, select the Airport Express and click Edit. Navigate to the Network tab and change Router Mode to DHCP and NAT. Then click Update on the bottom right.
    Airport Utility 5:
Open Airport Utility and click Manual Setup. Navigate to the Internet icon and change Connection Sharing to Share a Public IP Address. Then click Update on the bottom right.

  • Using Airport Express to set up an ad hoc network for presentations

I have to give a presentation where I will both need my MacBook Pro and iPad. I may or may not have a wireless network available (will depend on location). Is there a way that I can use an Airport Express to set up an ad hoc network and use an Apple TV for AirPlay from my iPad and laptop?

Easy to do. Just set up the AirPort Express to "Create a wireless network".
When you see the "error" message(s) that there is not an Ethernet cable plugged into the WAN port and/or no Internet connection, click "ignore" and you will have a green light on the Express.
Wireless devices will connect to the network by selecting it and entering the password.

My HP 2355 won't show up in AirPrint? I have it plugged in via USB and set it up on my Mac mini with the airport express network. Any advice?

Unless your HP printer is an AirPrint-ready device, just connecting it to the USB port of the AirPort Express base station will not make it so.
On the other hand, connecting a non-AirPrint printer to the base station's USB port it can be shared out by the base station's print server. Please see the following Apple Support article for details.

  • Airport Extreme Killed My Airport Express Network!!!

I have been an apple user since 1992 - NEVER HAVE I FELT SO FRUSTRATED!!!! Sorry to shout, but this is as bad as it gets - my kids are screaming at me and my wife laughing!! I have had a reasonably good Airport Express network running in my house with an Express as the primary and internet connected to it by the ethernet port. I worked fine for my Intel iMac and my daughters Intel MacBook, but my son had problems in his room. We then got an xbox 360 and wanted to connect that so I upgraded to an Airport Extreme - Disaster!. Firstly the net went intermittant! Then I rebuilt from scratch restting all devices to factory defaults; worse and worse, the network kept failing to find various base stations. Finally I cut the Extreme out of the loop and tried to rebuild the original network; now Airport utility won't see any base station after I configue it!! Please help if you can!!!

If nothing works, try a factory reset: disconnect the Extreme from power, press the reset button, plug in power while still pressing the reset button, release reset button after 5 seconds or so.
This method usually helps me with problems with my Airport Extreme and Express (this happens seldom by the way). The only disadvantage is that you have to set it up again completely.

  • Airport Express network suddenly no longer visible - but only for one Mac..

    What the..?
My 20" iMac Core Duo can no longer see my Airport Express network. It happened yesterday after restarting the AE a few times.. (I do this and also restart the modem from time to time if the net connection stalls - or I want to boot of my housemate's PC from the network cause she's hogging bandwidth)..
Anyway.. The first restart caused it to not re-appear on the list of available networks, so I restarted again.. then it was fine - it came back. All good.
I reset it again this morning because the net connection was not meeting my expectation and now the iMac no longer sees the AE network.
I can connect to other Wi-Fi networks around me (there is a neighbour with no WEP) but cant see hide nor hair of my own network.
The puzzling thing is that my girlfriend's Mac Book, my other iBook G3 and my housemate's PC can all see it and use the network fine - as normal..
So what has happenned? And what do I need to do?
Between you and me ..This intel iMac has been a bit tempramental ever since I got it.. weird things like this happen to it from time to time.. never one thing that you can point at and say AHA! Faulty [something] but just weird stuff like this... Hmmmm..
Some help would be much appreciated.. Thanks!
    20" iMac Core Duo 2.0GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   2GB RAM, 500GB HDD, 256MB Graphics

Well, from reading some other posts, and trying my own experimenting, I have gotten it to work.
Deleting the keychain did nothing, manually connecting to the network by typing the name in etc.. nothing.
What DID work was using my G3 iBook (which could see the network) to use the Airport Administrator to change the channel from Automatic to manual - in this case channel 7 (a completely arbitrary choice).
The thing I cannot work out is why it had this issue in the first place. It worked fine for months then one day decided that it apparently didn't like automatic channel selection.
The problem is solved but the cause is still a mystery.
Hopefully though, this might help others with the same problem.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I looked at a manual for a Samsung Bluray Disc player. They seem to have left out an important capability: the ability to choose a wireless network and supply its password.
You may be able to use the WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) capability, although that is said to be tricky between Apple and non-Apple equipment. Use AirPort Utility to put your AirPort Express into "manual setup" mode. Invoke the menu option Base Station -> Add Wireless Clients. Then follow the player's instructions for "PBC (WPS)". Use the AirPort Utility option "First attempt". The AirPort Express' status light will turn blue while it waits for a connection from the player.
I have no direct experience with this. All the above information came from the electronic book "Take Control of Your 802.11n AirPort Network" (http://www.takecontrolbooks.com/airport-n).
I have no relationship with Take Control Books other than that of a customer.

  • How many people can simultaneously share airport express network?

How many people can simultaneously share airport express network?  I want to set up a wireless network in my classroom and need to accommodate about 25 devices.

The AirPort Express will only handle 10 wireless connections.
You will need to consider an AirPort Extreme....which will handle up to 50 wireless connections.

  • My computer is recognizing my airport express network at first but then slips to an exclamation mark. I have followed the steps to reset everything and it ends up keeping me on a loop of asking me to rest everything after I do so. network is recognized

My computer is recognizing my airport express network at first but then slips to an exclamation mark. I have followed the steps to reset everything and it ends up keeping me on a loop of asking me to rest everything after I do so. network is recognized on list along with all my neighbors. Any help would be greatly apprectiated.

    System Preferences > Network
WiFi/Airport should be at the top of the list.
    Select WiFi/Airport
[√ ] Ask to Join new Networks
    click ( Advanced )
In the WiFi/Airport pane, remove ALL other networks except your home Network. (This will keep your computer from "wandering off" onto a neighbor's Network.)
You are not done until you close the windows and Save Changes.

  • WRT54G as client for Airport Express Network?

I know this can be done in reverse, with the airport express becoming a client for the WRT54G, but I want the 54G to connect to the airport express network I've already set up. Is there a way, and how?
    Thanks!

It is not possible to set up a Linksys WRT54G as a client on a wireless network created by an Airport Express.
Others have noted here (in past discussions) that they have also been unsuccessful at configuring the WRT54G as a remote base station in a wireless distribution system (WDS) where the Airport Express is the main base station.

  • How do you add an Airport Express to an existing Airport Express network

how do you add an Airport Express to an existing Airport Express network

I assume that you are interested in using the new Express to extend the wireless range of the other.
If so, please check out the following Apple Support article.

  • Macbook no longer detects Airport Express Network

I've been using my macbook to connect to my Airport express base station for my home wireless daily for like a year now. Today however, my macbook refuses to connect to the network. After a few scans it detects the network, then when I try to connect it brings up the "this network requires a WEP password" which I put in, and then the connection times out on every attempt.
I tried using the Airport Utility which fails to even detect the base station.
Yes I've restarted my MB, yes I've restarted the express/modem. Thing is, I'm connected to the same network right now on my iPhone which doesn't seem to have any problem.

Update: my macbook can connect to the wireless network at my university, but still not the airport express network.

I have just bought apple tv which allows me to play music through airport express but when  chose to watch a movie the audio comes from the tv and does not give option listen through other speakers served through airport express. Can you help me ?

No, you cannot seperate the audio and video stream.
You can use optical audio to a sound system (I use sony sound bar) and play the audio via that.
