Airport Express no longer connects

Initially my airport express worked great, however, it no longer is able to resolve an internet connection - can't find a DNS server. My iMac with Snow Leopard has a similar issue with the internet (it will work for a few seconds, then stop completely loading pages). However, my older macbook with leopard has no problem when connected directly with ethernet. Has anyone experienced any problems like this before? It's driving me a bit crazy!

it simply keeps asking me to run dx and then offers no real information
What information does it offer?

  • Since last Airport Update, Airport Express no longer connects to network

I Just get a flashing amber light.
I have hard reset and gone through the step by step, and all I want to do it use it for a remote printer.
I cannot even see the thing now.
    Can anyone help ?

Not sure how you're resetting but try this...
Reset the Express back to factory defaults:
Use a pen or a paper clip to press and hold the reset button until the
status light flashes quickly (about 5 seconds). The following will occur:
AirPort Express restarts with the following settings:
AirPort Express receives its IP address using DHCP.
The network name reverts to default Apple Network.
The AirPort Express password is reset.
After you reset the express, airport utility should see the express with the default name. Double click the express and configure manually, the airport utility should tell you that you are switching networks, switch to the express network then continue with configuration and set the WEP key the same as the Extreme.

  • Airport Express no longer joins network

Greetings, I have a cable modem internet connection; I use an older Airport Extreme (802.11n, without Time Capsule) to make a local wifi network with WPA2 Personal security, and an older Airport Express (802.11 b/g, firmware 6.3) to connect a laser printer in a different room.
All was working well until two days ago when access to the internet disappeared. I reset the modem, confirmed that the cable connection was working by plugging a laptop directly into the modem by ethernet, determining that the problem was the Airport Extreme. I discovered the 7.5.2 firmware update which I uploaded, and all seemed well.
However, the 27" iMac upstairs only connected to Airport intermittently; it appeared to have been duplicated in name, as well as only recognized the Airport Express. I've since been able to correct that problem, however, now the Airport Express no longer connects to the Airport Extreme network.
I've tried soft resets (unplugging then plugging back in) and hard resets (pressing the reset button with a paperclip until the amber light flashes, then reconfiguring the device). I've tried setting the Airport Express both just to join the network (printer sharing) as well as extend the network; I also reverted the Airport Extreme's firmware to 7.4.2 which works perfectly well. However, now after each successive attempt to reconfigure the Airport Express to join the network, Airport Utility says that the Airport Express has been successfully updated and will restart, which it never does - it simply flashes an amber light, and Airport Utility eventually times out and says that it was unable to find the Airport Express after restarting, noting that the settings have been successfully updated, but that there is a problem re-joining the wireless network/finding the device. Notably, the Airport Express no longer appears in the left hand list of wireless devices in Airport Utility.
    Help!!

    Hi pslebow,
You make it sound like there was no change, then suddenly the Airport Express 802.11g lost connection to the wireless network and you can't get it back.
What network security is your wireless network using?
From the specification sheet, "…When joining an existing wireless network, AirPort Express only supports WPA-Personal."
    AirPort Express - Technical Specifications
Please make sure your router security is set to match.
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support
If you have older Wi-Fi devices on your network that don't support WPA2 Personal (AES), a good second choice is WPA/WPA2 Mode (often referred to as WPA Mixed Mode). This mode will allow newer devices to use the stronger WPA2 AES encryption, while still allowing older devices to connect with older WPA TKIP-level encryption. If your Wi-Fi router doesn't support WPA/WPA2 Mode, WPA Personal (TKIP) mode is the next best choice.

  • My airport express no longer shows up in Airport Utility since I got a new router.

Hi all, I'm scratching my head at this one.
For years I've had an Airport Express and it has worked fine. I was using it simply to stream music from iTunes on my PC as well as my iPhone and iPad to my home theater which is in a different room. I had a Linksys WRT150N wireless router, and the Airport Express would join my existing network and stream music via Airplay.
A few days ago I replaced my Linksys router with a Netgear WNDR3800, and the Airport Express no longer connected. I assumed I had to set it up again, but it is not even recognized by Airport Utility, so I can't get to the setup screen. I tried performing a soft reset, hard reset, and attaching the Airport Express to one of my Netgear's LAN ports via Ethernet cable, but it still won't show up in Airport Utility. The amber light just flashes on the unit and I can't access any setup screens.
Am I missing something obvious? All of the help tips assume the Airport Express at least shows up in Airport Utility. In my Airport Utility there is nothing to select and it says "AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort wireless devices. Make sure the AirPort wireless device you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
I am running a PC with Windows 7 and using Airport Utility v. 5.6.1 for Windows.
    Thanks for any help!

Did you try temporarily connecting an Ethernet cable from your PC to the AirPort Express to see if AirPort Utillty could "see" the AirPort Express that way? This method will work virtually all of the time unless the Windows Firewall or the PC's anti-virus program is blocking the connection attempt from your PC to the AirPort Express.
If you want to configure the Express using wireless only, you need to remember that when you reset the Expess back to default settings, it is now producing a wireless network with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx.
You must log on to the Apple Network xxxxxx wireless network first....no password is required.....and then open AirPort Utility so that your PC will establish a connection to the AirPort Express.
Once the AirPort Express has been configured to join your Netgear wireless network, you can log back on to your normal wireless network and all devices will be working with one another.

  • I changed cable providers and now my Airport Express won't connect to the Internet.  How do I fix this?

I changed to Time Warner cable.  Upon doing so, my Airport Express lost its connection to the Internet.  When I run the Airport Utility, I am stuck at the first step, which says the AE doesn't have any DNS server addresses.  What are they and how do I find out what they should be?  And if I supply them, will that fix the problem?

Have you performed a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express?
If not, the Express is still remembering the settings that you programmed into it when you configured it to work with your old modem.
The Express is "looking" for your old modem, but it does not "see" 'it because it is no longer there...so it can't connect to the Internet.
If you have not already tried the Factory Default Reset and you need more info about this, post back for more details.

HP 6700 all in one wireless printer,  got the latest Comcast router.  None of which connect to my computer wirelessly.  Which do I throw away the printer, router, or Mac?  Help

    Contact HP for support.
Explain that you are using a Mac, anticipate the inevitable groan, and wait patiently for their resident Mac expert to return from vacation.
Until then download and install its driver here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=5058338&cc=us&dlc=en &lc=en
Otherwise return the printer and purchase one from a company that visibly supports OS X. HP isn't on that list.

    Hi Jake,
Is it connecting to the Router or Modem?
Is the new Router using maybe WPA2 encryption? If so, G4s can only do WPA or less.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>Airport>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply.
    Also, turn off IPv6:
    System Preferences » Network » AirPort » TCP/IP tab » Configure IPv6

  • Max airport express to be connected?

How many Airport express I can connect in one network? as a maximum.

My question was not clear enough, sorry. I want to know how many airport express devices I can connect and still get all of them in airtunes, all of them togather. Example, if I connect 12 airport express devices around the house all connected to speakers, and then I press that button in the down right corner, would I get all the speakers? and will I be able to stream and broadcast to all of them?
    Thanks anyway.

  • Airport Express won't connect to Extreme by ethernet

    Hi,
    Here is my setup:
    a) Airport Extreme (802.11n 2nd gen) connected by ethernet to cable modem
    b) Airport Express #1 setup to wirelessly extend network
This has worked fine for quite some time.
Now, what I tried to is add a 2nd Airport Express via ethernet, so
    the new setup is:
    1) cable modem via ethernet to Airport Extreme
    2) ethernet connection from Airport Extreme to D-Link 8 port gigabit switch
    3) ethernet from switch to several devices (Tivo, GoogleTV,etc) and also to an in-wall ethernet connection to another part of my house
    4) ethernet from that in-wall ethernet to another D-Link switch
    5) ethernet from that other switch to printer (currently works fine) and to Airport Express #2
    6) Airport Express #1 still connected wirelessly
Problem: Airport Express #2 will not connect.  Won't show up in Airport Utility.  Nothing.
I have tried several factory resets.
After many tries, I finally tried connecting it wirelessly.  This worked, and I was able to see AEX#2 in the Airport Utility.  But, when I then tried to connect it by ethernet, it shut down my entire network.  I can not anywhere find step by step instructions on how to connect the AEX by ethernet to the Extreme.
I have reviewed http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4145 but find no help there.
Looking forward to some great help.
    - Blue

If I switch Express#2 (the one I would lilke to connect by ethernet) to "create" a network, with the same SSID and PW, then I can only see Express#2 in the utility and the Extreme and Express#1 dissappear.
As soon as you set the Express #2 to "Create a wireless network, the setting for Connection Sharing will change from Bridge Mode to Share a public IP address. That is likely what is throwing you off.
Setup Express #2 to "Create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, same wireless security and same password.
The next...and last....and critical....step before you click Update must be to change the setting for Connection Sharing from Share a public IP address to Off (Bridge Mode).
Now click Update and wait for a green light on Express #2.
Then, you have to power cycle the entire network.
Power off everything in any order you want.
    Wait a minute
Start the modem first and let it run a minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    Then the switch, etc.
You get the idea....keep starting devices one at a time until the entire network is back up.
Now all the AirPorts will be on the same subnet and visible in AirPort Utility.

  • Why won't my airport express allow internet connection on TV blu ray? I have internet connection on iMac

Why won't my Airport Express allow internet connection on my Blu Ray when there is internet connection on my IMac?

I'm guessing you only have the modem/router supplied by your isp and the Airport Express.  Is the Airport Express connected to the modem/router with an ethernet cable?  If not, plug one end of the cable into an available port on the modem/router and the other end in to the WAN port, indicated with a dashed circle, on the Airport Express.
    Have a nice day.

  • WRT160NL and AirPort Express 802.11n Connection

I have a Linksys WRT160NL that is currently connected to 2 Apple AirPort Express 802.11n via WiFi.
The connections are Cable Model via ethernet to WRT160NL
WRT160NL ethernet to PCs running XP and Vista
WRT160NL WiFi to laptops at 802.11g
WRT160NL ethernet to DirecTV HD Box
WRT160NL WiFi to Airport Express to ethernet connection of DirecTV HD Boxes (2 connections) (802.11g)
This current setup works. The hard wired components work as expected and the wifi to the AirPort Expresses work as well. The only issue I have is that the AirPort Expresses are only connecting to the the WRT160NL via WiFi at 802.11g speeds. I want to be able to conenct the AirPort Expresses at 802.11n speeds as I am having some streamin issues for High Def video. I verfied in the DHCP Client Table of the router that the AirPort Exresses are connected via "Wireless-G" to the routers. The AirPort Expresses are running the lastest firmware from Apple and I am running Firmware Version: 1.00.01 B17 on the router.
Any help/ideas on how I can connect the Apple Airport Express to the WRT160NL at 802.11n speeds? Are these 2 devices just not compatible with each other?

Thanks for the reply Scrooge. I have verified that the Apple Airport Express is 802.11n complaint:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB321LL/A/AirPort-Express-AirTunes?fnode=MTY1NDA0Mg&mco=MTA4NTc4MTE
I have also checked to make sure tha the router is set to Mixed mode:
    Mode:      Mixed
    Network Name (SSID):     xxxxxxxxx
Channel Width:     Standard - 20MHz Channel
    Wide Channel:     N/A
    Standard Channel:     2
    Security:     WPA2 Personal
    SSID Broadcast:     Enabled
The airport expresses are still connected at 802.11g according to the DHCP Client Table from the router. Is there any way to force the Airport Expresses to connect at 802.11n?
    TIA
