Airport Express - Noise when USB is plugged

Hi I just bought a laserjet printer and after I plugged the USB cable into the Airport Express, I hear some noise on the speakers of my stereo which is connected to my AEX. When I remove the USB cable everything is ok but with
the USB cable plugged..there are serious noise
I tried with another USB cable but same issue...
Anyone experienced the same issue ?
Thanks
Vadim

If you power-off and unplug the laser printer from power, but still leave it connected to the AX with a USB cable, does the noise stop? If so, reconnect the laser printer to power, but leave it power-off. How about now?
Normally do you have the laser printer and/or AirPort Express Base Station (AX) plugged directly into a wall power outlet. If so, the same outlet? ... or do you use a power-strip for either?

I can't print wirelessly using Airport Express.  I have my HP printer connected to a USB hub, and the hub to the Airport Express, but when I select the HP from the printer list, my MacBook says the printer is "off-line" - even when it is not.  I've tried several USB connectors, and several different ports on my USB hub; same result.  I need to have the HP connected to the hub 'cause from there it's connected to our desktop Mac.

    Hi,
I am currently replying to this as it shows in the iChat Community.
I have asked the Hosts to move it to Snow Leopard  (you should not lose contact with it through any email links you get)
I also don't do Wirelss printing so I can't actaully help either.

This can sometimes be the result of a faulty/damaaged USB sync cable.  Do you have another cable you could test it out with?

  • Airport Express as a USB bridge

I have two minimacs in a small office. I have no need of any network such as an Airport Extreme, etc. Can I use just an airport express connected via USB to the printer and print via the Airport installed on the minimac to the printer?

One other thing that could seem to cause/corralate/contribute to the drop out is when I rip DVD:s with HandBrake.
It SEEMS that the drop out always occurs when I'm ripping a DVD from one of my Macs to my USB-connected AirDisc. Of course, the log only shows the "Connecting to fe88:1818...#bridge..." etc as the only evidence of a cause to the drop out. But maybe the datatransfer to the AriDisc plays a part in this?
I've read some threads that suggests datatransfers can cause an AE-freeze...
    Any ideas?

  • Battery not charging and makes weird noise when power cord plugged in

I have an issue that a few people have mentioned here, my PowerBook won't recognize when a power adapter is plugged in. I've bought two power adapters recently (that I probably DON'T need now) so I know it's not a bad adapter.
For a few months it has been switching back and forth between wall and battery power but usually only when I was really working the machine either video or photo editing but it has been getting worse.
The thing that is happening to me that I haven't seen mention is my computer makes a fast ticking noise when it is plugged in. Once I unplug it, it stops. And while it was off and plugged in the computer was making a weird whistling noise.
Is this a bad DC/sound card issue and does Apple still do these types of repairs at a Genius Bar or am I on my own?
Thanks for any and all help.

I know exactly what you mean. My 17 inch PB has been quite "noisy" since I received it, but i wrote it off (I was too ecstatic that work bought me a PB). Just recently the sound has been getting louder. I'm starting to think the sound was actually electrical interference that was being picked up by the speakers. Actually today I was in a meeting (speakers still working) and the squeeling sound was getting louder (almost embarrasing loud considering I'm the apple diehard in a pc dominated office). I decided to reset my computer (not something I do often)It seemed to subside for a bit.
Well today, it looks as though my speakers have died on me. I'm not getting any sounds out of them. I'm not a newb when it comes to macs (been using macs since os9, about '99) so I've tried everything I can think of to get the speakers to come back. I believe I'm experiencing a hardware failure (reset many times, check all settings).
Hmph.....Pretty frustrating. No iTunes during work makes me sad. I'll have to check and see if my external sound still works tomorrow.

No, you cannot seperate the audio and video stream.
You can use optical audio to a sound system (I use sony sound bar) and play the audio via that.

  • Can I use Airport Express with a USB Hard disk as a NAS solution?

What have people tried for NAS solutions that work really well wirelessly? Can I use my Airport Express with its USB port to attach a hard disk? Or do I need an Airport Extreme base station? Or some other solution?

The price of the Time Capsule includes the NAS backup system plus a hardware router for your network.
Macs do not support USB 3.0 and most likely won't because Apple's weight is behind Thunderbolt which is considerably faster and more versatile than USB.

  • IPhone 5s connect to airport express but when I play in iTunes no option to pick airport ?

iPhone 5s connect to airport express but when I play in iTunes no option to pick airport ?

If anyone would like to know how to fix this, I discovered the answer.
I have no idea what IPv6 is and I care not, but apparently now, all of a sudden, Apple makes iTunes talk to Airport Express units using IPv6. However, it didnt bother to make the Airport Express units expect this first, so iTunes can see the Airport Express, but it cant talk to it.
Anyway, I found that you have to manually go into your Mac settings (scary stuff if you are a non technical person like me) and turn off IPv6.
To do this, go to "Finder > Go > Utilities > Terminal"
    type
    networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi  (hit enter)
    Then type
    networksetup -setv6off Ethernet (hit enter)
and magically your iTunes will talk to your Airport Express units again.
I presume at some point we will have to undo this as technology moves on and everything uses IPv6, so when that happens go into Terminal again and type
    networksetup -setv6automatic Wi-Fi  (hit enter)
    Then type
    networksetup -setv6automatic (hit enter)
    Thanks Apple for that.

my iphone will not connect to my itunes, although it makes a noise when it is plugged into my laptop? My Iphone will not show up on my Itunes

Version 11.1.5.5 of iTunes was just released today. If you update to that, does that help with the recognition troubles?

  • MSI ge70 makes more noise when charger is plugged in.

Hi, my MSI ge70 makes alot more noise when it is plugged in to the charger, i have the feeling that my gpu starts running harder...
Is it normal that my fans start spinning harder when i plug in power?
    Regards

jea it is , as I noticed it as well
when you plug in your charger , your laptop has more Current to use eg. more power
that means your laptop needs more cooling thus the higher fan speeds :D
I also noticed that the turbo boost only works on AC , think that's why the fans speed up

  • Airport Express crashing when serving new iPad

My WiFi network consists of an Airport Extreme that is connected to my cable, and an Airport Express on the third floor that is used to expand the network. Both units are running the latest 7.5.2 firmware and are connected with Cat 5 cable. I have no problem with my Macbook Pro, Macbook, MacMini, or iPhone 4 connecting to the Airport Express upstairs. However, whenever I use my new iPad there, after 10 or 15 minutes of great connectivity, the Airport Express goes off-line (light turns from Green to Yellow). I can restore it to operation by unplugging the Airport Express for a few minutes (a few seconds won't fix it), then plugging it back in. However within a few minutes, if the iPad is allowed to connect, it will go off line again.
If I keep the iPad turned off and use any of my other Mac computers, everything is fine and the Express stays happy for hours at a time, but the new iPad kills it within a few minutes.
By the way, this the the EXACT issue I had a couple of years back when I bought my first iPhone. Things were very unstable until Apple updated the Express firmware. I have the sense that this is yet another bug in the Express.
Is anybody else having this issue or have a resolution?

I am having the same problem, but with my old airport extreme. I've yet to install the new one - I'm hoping it will fix the problems.

  • AirPort Express Configuration When Ethernet Settings Are Unknown?

I'd like to set up my AirPort Express at home, then use it as a wireless hot spot when traveling (the hotels have wired access and ethernet cables). I have a DSL modem and a wireless router at home, and I will set up the AirPort Express Utility on my notebook. I will not be traveling with my notebook, however, just my iPad. Can I do this?

I will not be traveling with my notebook, however, just my iPad. Can I do this?
Yes. The following setup will work in most hotels:
Open AirPort Utility - click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Wireless Mode = Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name = Your choice
Radio Mode = 802.11n (b/g compatible) is a good choice
    Channel = Automatic
    Security = WPA/WPA2 Personal or WPA2 Personal
    Password = Your choice
    Click the Internet icon
    Connect Using = Ethernet
Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)
Update to save settings. Plug the Express in at the hotel (or into one of the LAN ports on your router if you want to test it) and power it up. Open your browser and the hotel's log in page will appear so you can agree to terms and pay the fees.
Important...some hotels will not allow more than one computer at a time to connect, so for example you may not be able to have your computer and iPhone connected at the same time. Unfortunately, no way around this.

  • My Airport disconnects randomly when USB disk is attached..HELP NEEDED !!!!

My Airport Extreme disconnects randomly when USB disk is attached, I have searched this forum but found now obvious solution.
The Airport Extreme has the latest firmware.
Since the airdisk solution is quite useless at this time, I would kindly accept any kind of help .....thanks

Len61 got my reply, I have copied below.
Hi - I have been on the phone with support 4X since late December - all good calls. They have been scratching their heads on this issue.
I have 2 printers and 2 drives on the airport -recent experieinces = printers have always behaved, drives have appeared / vanished / "drive needs repair" and it's just fine...
Cutting out the interim fixes, here are the simple but important solutions and everything has been stable for days now.
    * rolled back to AEBS firmware 7.1.1
    * replaced the passive USB hub with a powered hub ** This is when joy arrived
    * make sure your drive has a block size of 512
You can run guest mode however you want, since adding the new hub, it hasn't mattered.
I haven't been brave enough to upgrade firmware to 7.2.1
    cheers

  • I got an IP camera for surveilance but I have an old version airport express. How can I plug the ethernet cord for the camera if there is only one port that's connected to the modem (WAN)?

    Modem has one ethernet port
airport express the old one that looks like a charger has one ethernet port only, one usb, and one jack (speakers).
IP camera needs of ethernet port to set up
    How can I do this?

You will need to replace the AirPort Express with another wireless router that has a built-in Ethernet switch ... like the AirPort Extreme.

  • Airport Express choppy when using multiple speakers

Had a big New Year's party. I setup my recent Mac mini in one room wired directly to a stereo, and my Airport Express (latest model that looks like a white Apple TV) in another room connected to another stereo. I use the Airport Express a lot and it works flawlessly when streaming from iPhone / iPad / iTunes on the Mac.
Everything is running the latest versions (iTunes 11.1.3 (8), Mavericks 10.9, newest firmware on Airport). My network uses an Airport Extreme 802.11n (flat model, not later tower model).
So... I wanted music to play in both rooms, something that I've done at previous parties with no issue - but the music would cut in and out from the Airport Express! Disappointing to say the least.
    I troubleshooted all I could:
    - Setup the Airport Express from Extend Wireless Network to Connect to Wireless Network
    - Tried 2.4 GHz and 5.4 GHz networks
    - Ensure CPU usage on Mac was low, and no other programs running
    - Restart it all (Airport Extreme, Airport Express, Mac)
    - Etc.
All signal strenghts were fine. Whenever I streamed from iPhone directly to Airport Express it was perfect. Only from iTunes to both speakers did I have issues.
Anyone seen this? This has worked perfectly for me before!

    This is known to happen:

Try a different broadcast channel on the wireless router.
