Airport Express not being 'seen' after configuration in Windows

I thought I would start my own thread on this, I had put this as a reply to someone elses before.
I have a Gen1 Airport express being used to play music through our stereo system throughout the house. It was working perfectly until I replaced my dead wireless router. So, I did a full hard 'reset' on the AE, connected to the wireless network that the device created, and opened the Airport Utility. All seem to work fine - the AirPort Utility 'saw' the Express, did a configuration and "restarted" it. But while it was restarting, I got a notice that said "Airport Utility was unable to find your Airport Wireless Device..." AFTER it went through it's whole configuration.
The light on the Express is solid green, when I look at my wireless router utility, it shows it connected and it can see it. But none of my devices "see" it - not iTunes, not my ipad or iphone.
Again, it's a Gen 1 Airport Express, computer is Windows 7. Everything was working fine until I got the new wireless router.
When I open Airport Utility after closing it, I again says it's unable to find and Airport Device.  And like I said, the light is solid green, and my network says it's connected to the Airport Express.
i've done this over about 5 times now, trying everything....
thoughts?
thanks
Bob

I suspect your new wireless router.. if not an apple router is simply not airplay aware.. in which case airplay cannot work with the express.. you need a router that is apple compatible.. and not all routers are..
Give the exact make and model of the new router.
Do a google search if other people are having airplay issues with it.

  • Airport express not being found after going through setup wizard

I restore the airport express to factory conditions by pressing the reset button while plugging it in and then continue pressing the reset button for a further 10 seconds.
I open airport utility and see my airport express in the left column. I click the setup wizard and perform the following:
    I click:
    1. I want airport express to join my current network
    2. I want airport express to wirelessly join my current network
    3. I select wpa2 personal and enter my wireless password for my router
    4. I click the update button. Message says: "The settings for this airport express have been successfully updated. you can close this window now or wait for this airport express to restart
after about 3 minutes or so I get this message:
"airport utility was unable to find your apple wireless device after restarting. the settings for this apple wireless device have been succesffully updated, but there was a problem joining the wireless network or finding the apple wireless device. you may need to select your netowrk from the airport menu and try again."
    any thoughts?

    HI
are you sure you are using the correct security type for the main network, when it asks you, after selecting the network you want to join? If you chose the wrong one the airport utility will not tell you, it just won't find it after restart.
check it in network pref/advanced tab
also check the firmware version of the express in airport utility/manual setup/summary tab

  • Airport Express not being "seen" by utility.

My Airport Express is connected via ethernet to my home network with the wireless disabled. Lately the unit has been dropping off the network and nothing I try now will get The Airport Utility to "see" the device.
I have event tried resetting several times, going back to earlier system setups, entierning the IP address manually. Nothing works.
    Any suggestions?

The problem could be with the Express, but intermittent problems of the sort you are describing are very rare. Their failure mode is almost always accompanied with a dark LED.
Try a different port on your router, a different router, a different switch it is connected to one, or a different cable. Any failure among the many links in that chain can be the cause.
If the Express fails in the same manner while connected directly to a computer with a known good Ehternet patch cable, only then would I condemn the Express. Conversely, you could substitute another Express known to be reliable.

  • Windows backup not being seen after server failure windows 2012

Running Lenovo thinkserver with Raid 5 with 4 drives and Server 2012 Standard Had 2 drives go at the same time so had to reconfigure and reinstall everything, all data lost. It was under warranty so the tech came out and replaced 1 drive and am currently
waiting for the 2nd drive. So currently am running a 3 disk Raid 5. I used windows backup to create full backups and now when I try to restore from that backup, it just hangs and hangs and hangs and won't find the backups. THe backup is stored on Seagate Expansion+
3TB drive. I know there are some issues with these (which apparantly I didn't know) but I have to get this backup off and installed somehow, I can't handle resetting up the entire system. Please help, I am desperate!

    Hi,
By default we should restore BMR to the original device or a device with same hardware. Since you currently running a 3 disk Raid 5, you need to add another disk to the Raid 5 to restore BMR to a same hardware.

At present I have no power to the Gen 7, so need to get some power to it I think.  I pressed the buttons as you suggested, but nothing is showing up at this point.  Thank you for your response as the more I can rule out before  I take it back the better I think.

I have a new Airport Extreme connected to a PS running WIndows XP. Internet and all work well from PC, another laptop PC,my iMAc G5, and my MacBook.
When I plug in the Express it turns green than amber than blinks amber, and is not seen from the airport utility. I did the 10 second reset and still nothing but blinking amber.
A side problem is the PC's although seeing the Apple computers from the network, cannot connect to them.
    Any help appreciated. Kevin

Mando2802, Welcome to the discussion area!
Try doing a hard reset or factory default reset on the AirPort Express (AX).

  • Airport Express Not Showing Up After Repeated Restarts

Have a first Gen Airport Express and still using the same Macbook we always have, but the Airport is just not working properly any more. Here are the things I have tried:
    - Hard restart, and properly configured the airport express to join my wireless network. My internet router says it is connected and the light is green on the airport but will not show up in iTunes or through the airport utility. The only way I can get the airport utility to read it is when I do the hard restart, but once it restarts, no airport...
    - I have made sure the passwords and security types are correct
It was working fine for YEARS and now it just won't show up at all!
    Any helps would be appreciated!

Welcome to the discussions forum jmpstar.
If you disabled wireless, Airport Utility will have no way to find it, wirelessly. You'll have to reset it by holding in the reset button until the LED flashes rapidly. You'll then be able to configure it again using Airport Utility.

  • Airport Express not available anymore after upgrade to iTunes 12.1

I have Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 installed and did an iTunes upgrade from previous version to 12.1 . After the installation and restart I got the info that the 'Bonjour' service was stopped and I have to reactivate it again in the system settings. Having that done I still can't address the Airport Express speakers out of iTunes.
Any idea what I can do?

  • All external hard drives not being seen after working for months

    I have a 27" iMac, 10.7.2.
This morning I had 4 external hard drives attached via a powered hub, 2 x 2TB and 2 x1TB (all Freecom) formatted as MAC OS extended Journaled, one acting as the time machine backup.
All were working and being recognised/seen on the desktop and finder and working normally. I shut down the system and moved the machine to a new office made all the same connections, but now none of the drives are available, they are not even visible on the desktop.
I have tried them directly connected to the usb ports with no luck, I have tried rebooting in safe mode and reset both SMC and PRAM (after looking at various threads)
I have also tried a USB stick which also does not appear on the desktop (or anywhere else), all other peripherals work with the USB ports.
This is a real problem as there is almost 4 terabytes of material and four years work!, any suggestions would be greatfully received.

You mentioned  you did a SMC reset, because different models of Mac's have different procedures for doing a SMC reset you may have done it incorrectly meaning you didn't do one at all! Did you do it like this?
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Airport express not working properly after upgrade to 10.2.8

Hi and thanks in advance for your advice. I have searched the forums but didn't see my problem listed. I upgraded her ibook recently. B4 the upgrade, no problem connecting wirelessly to the DSL gateway. My office is in the basement under the steel I-beam, so the ibook was hooked up via ethernetduring and post upgrade . I was able to send and receive email and get to the web. I returned the ibook to her and she can't send email. Now here is the really weird part, she can receive email but not send it. She uses the ibook for email and documents and surfing the web. One for three isn't good. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Incoming packets (reading/receiving email for instance) works because the MTU of the incoming packets is OK.
MTU problems are identified on sending data (like sending email) because the outgoing packets are too big.
Checkout macosxhints.com articles like "10.3: MTU fixes for Ethernet and Airport connections".

  • I have a brand new iPad 2 and it is not being "seen" by iTunes for Windows (64 bit Win 7)

I originally had my iTunes library (music, apps, etc) on a MacBook.  Used "home sharing" to drag over most of my collection to my new Windows 7 laptop.  All apps, music, etc show up fine in iTunes on Windows but when I unpacked my new iPad 2 and plugged the apple cable into the USB port on my Windows laptop and the other end in my iPad 2, no synching occured nor did the iPad 2 show up on the left-hand list on iTunes.
Any idea what might be wrong?  I did already try different USB ports.  Each time I plug and unplug I get the audible notification from my laptop that the cable is disconnected and/or connected.  so it's not a hardware issue.

    A Couple of questions..
Is the location shown under preferences/Advanced/General still showing the correct location?
Is the check boxes under this checked or unchecked?

Airport Express not seen in Airport Utility! PleaseHelp!
Changing Utility version did not help.
I have successfully used my Airport Express 802.11n A1264 (1st gen.) to stream my iTunes music wireless to my living room stereo. Lately my Airport Express looses connection after every restart and does not show in the Airport Utility.
I run 10.6.8 on a Quad core Mac Pro. up to date on al software updates per 10.6.8 I use a 3rd gen. Airport Extreme 802.11n.
                                                                                                                                                                                              W.W.

I actually did this by myself not into the computer but a secondary Ethernet port on myTripple play Fios modem.
The Express showed up right away. I did the reset and set it up in the utilities to join my existing wireless network. I don't remember all steps but at some point it asked me to put in internet info, I did not, and then it asked me if I wanted the amber flashing stoped so I could use it to stream music. I clicked yes and the set-up finished with a green light. After I disconected the Ethernet cable, plugged in the Express in my living room stereo wireless, it has been working normal since. I restarted a few times, green came right back.
James since you had the right idea I gave you the 10 points. Thank you for being helpful.

  • Airport Express not seen / discovered by Windows XP machine

I have an Airport Express connected to my wireless home network, mainly for AirTunes streaming. It was previously working fine on this network, but I had to change my wireless router and now can't get the Airport Express to be seen or discovered on the network by my Windows XP PC. This is a problem, since the XP box has all of the music I want to stream.
I also have a MacBook, and this can connect to the Airport Express with no problems.
As far as I know, I set up the new router with the same configuration as my previous one, but may have missed something that is well known to experts here. All other aspects of the wireless network are working fine, including other devices that connect to it, such as laptop, TIVO, etc.
I have tried turning off firewall and virus software while trying to connect to the Airport Express. I also reinstalled the Airport Utility. None of those moves have made this work so far.
Anyone have other suggestions on how to get the XP PC to "see" the Airport Express?
    Thanks!

    More detail on this.
I am able to temporarily connect to the AE if I use "configure other" and enter the IP address and password. I can change settings, etc., but ultimately when I try to either "Update" or "Revert" it loses the connection and gives me an error [usually -6753].
Have not been able to connect by direct ethernet cable connection, with firewall/virus scan off, resetting AE. Strangely, plugging in a USB wireless adapter to my desktop allowed it to connect to the airport - but I can't run my network with that installed on the desktop.
Anyone have suggestions what else can be done here?
    Thanks

I have been experiencing some networking problems
    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I have the latest Time Capsule ("TC"), an old Airport Extreme Base Station ("AEBS") bought in 2007 and 2 Airport Expresses, one bought in 3 months ago ("AE-Alpha") and the other bought back in 2007 ("AE-Beta"). All of them have been updated with the latest firmware.
Based on those dates, the AirPort Extreme is probably flat (as opposed to dome-shaped), making it 802.11n-capable. The Newer AirPort Express is probably an 802.11n-capable model A1264, while the older one is probably a model A1084 or A1088.
I use {the TC's} DHCP function ... to avoid unauthorized use.
This a discussion for another thread, but that's not what DHCP is for.
The wireless setting for it is to participate as WDS Main, but after reading various posts, it seems WDS is a bad idea
With that older AirPort Express you're stuck with WDS unless you decide to replace it with a newer model.
The AEBS is currently setup as being a WDS Relay at the moment
Why a relay? That's only needed if there's another base station "beyond" it that is configured to depend on it.
Since the AEBS is connected to the TC via Ethernet, you should probably configure it as a "roaming network":
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2273124
{The AE-Alpha} connects fine as WDS remote at the moment
I don't have any experience with mixed WDS and non-WDS networks, but since it's 802.11n-capable, you may be able to configure it to "extend" the network of the TC rather than as WDS. Look for a setting on the TC to "Allow this network to be extended".
    Physical location:
AEBS in one end, TC and AE-Alpha in the middle while AE-Beta on the other end.
A device such as "AE-Beta" that's supposed to extend a network shouldn't be "at the end" but should be half way between the central base station and the clients that need an extended network.
