Airport Express not locking to DAC

Hello
My old Airport Express died and Apple wouldn't get it fixed for me so I bought the new generation.
It doesn't work, when I play through iTunes to my DAC, there are audible pauses in the audio that occur at the same time my DAC displays "no lock".
The DAC is an Audiolab 8200 CD.
My old express worked without any issue.
The computer, a MBA 13 2013 is in the same room as the express.
Express has latest firmware update
Mac is running latest Apple SW
The Audiolab 8200 CD DAC works with the same optical cable using my AppleTV 2nd generation, on the same wireless newtwork and the same MBA.
--------How can I resolve this?

Ironically, after having discovered and reporting this issue with the airport express, I investigated it on computeraudiophile.com and an article mentioned jitter on the latest iteration of the airport express is very problematic, such that even expensive DACs with reputable ICs could not cope. The result of which is audio cutoffs. One thing is clear, I tested this against my Apple TV (all other variables remain the same, cable,  hardware, software, iTunes library etc and the issue was not reproducible). I intend on calling AppleCare to report this. I spent thousands of dollars this year on Apple equipment, I deserve to see a proper evaluation of the symptoms reported. I think we all do. It's even in Apple's interest to learn about this so that they can improve their product.
My DAC is an Audiolab 8200CD. I don't have the firmware version on hand.
I am not here posting this to put down Apple but I do feel a little cheated. I am looking for a logical explanation. I even tried different firmware on the express. My previous express worked fine until it died suddenly.

  • Airport Express not working with Comcast

I used to have AT&T and had my airport working well. Yesterday i changed to Comcast and my airport is not working the light stays yellow.. I tried resetting it but it didn't work.. I use it with my old Cisco router and its working. Whats wrong with my Airport Express? My computers are Windows 7

A solid amber light indicates that the AirPort Express has locked up....or it is defective.
Suggest you that try a Factory Default Reset as follows:
    Pull the Express from power
Let it rest for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it for another 8-10 seconds while you plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds to restart
The Express should display a slow, blinking amber light at this time
If you continue to see a solid amber light after a few tries with a Factory Default Reset, the Express has failed and it will need to be replaced.

    try this:
go system preferences > network > airport > advanced > TCP/IP and set *configure IPv6* to off. click on apply.
now have iTunes connect to the remote speaker again.

  • Airport Express (not n) with ethernet hub and as wireless base

    Will Airport Express do this?
I've got a cable modem. It connects by ethernet to a hub. Airport Express (not n) connects to the hub by ethernet. My laptops (MacBook and HP 69xx WinXP Pro) connect to AX and internet just fine.
In that same hub, I want to connect a D-Link DNS323, which I wish to be made accessible to the wireless network provided by AX. Here's a sort-of diagram:
    cable ethernet
modem ---> hub <--- Airport Express <--- laptops, AppleTV, etc. by wireless
    ^
    |
    |
    D-Link
    DNS 323
Can AX (old style, not n version) use its ethernet connector to both communicate with my cable modem and with other wired ethernet devices through my hub?
Thanks for helping. I tried searching for similar posts, but I failed to find an answer.

With only the hub, the NAS, and the express, you can't access both the internet and the NAS wirelessly at the same time. Here's why:
The AirPort Express has only one Ethernet port. That port can either act as a WAN port or a LAN port, but not both at the same time.
You need the Express to be connected to the internet. Unless you have another wireless router (Apple or otherwise), it will have to be connected through its Ethernet port. Therefore, the Ethernet port must act as a WAN port.
The NAS, on the other hand, is part of your network. For it to be connected, the port must act as a LAN port.
This means that the NAS can't be connected to the Express via Ethernet because then the port would need to act both as a LAN port and a WAN port, which it can't do.
This means you'll need an additional wireless router if you want to access both the internet and the NAS at the same time.
If you have another wireless router (it doesn't have to be an AirPort), I can help you configure it to work with your current network so that you can access the NAS.

  • Airport Express not showing name given

    Hello Community,
I have the latest Airport Extreme and Airport Express. I am also using the latest Airport Utility, 6.0.
I am using the Airport Express to extend my network. However, under my Wi-Fi icon (upper right icon), I can not see the name given to my Airport Express. Therefore I can not manually select it. I can see it's name in iTunes, if I want to remotely play music and under "Network>Advanced" I can see it has the "same" name as my Extreme, but with an "AE" after the Extreme's name. Im sure that means Airport Express. Also, of course I can see the AE and the name given to it using Airport Utility.
Question, why is the name given to the Airport Express not showing up under my Wi-Fi ? I could have sworn when I first configured it, it showed up under the Wi-Fi drop down menu under "Other Devices", I believe it read.
    I am running Lion, 10.7.3
Any help please ? Thank you in advance !

By the way, I set up the Airport Express wirelessly. Should I have connected it with an Ethernet to my Extreme to set the Express as an Extended network device ? Thanks !

Airport Express not seen in Airport Utility! PleaseHelp!
Changing Utility version did not help.
I have successfully used my Airport Express 802.11n A1264 (1st gen.) to stream my iTunes music wireless to my living room stereo. Lately my Airport Express looses connection after every restart and does not show in the Airport Utility.
I run 10.6.8 on a Quad core Mac Pro. up to date on al software updates per 10.6.8 I use a 3rd gen. Airport Extreme 802.11n.
                                                                                                                                                                                              W.W.

I actually did this by myself not into the computer but a secondary Ethernet port on myTripple play Fios modem.
The Express showed up right away. I did the reset and set it up in the utilities to join my existing wireless network. I don't remember all steps but at some point it asked me to put in internet info, I did not, and then it asked me if I wanted the amber flashing stoped so I could use it to stream music. I clicked yes and the set-up finished with a green light. After I disconected the Ethernet cable, plugged in the Express in my living room stereo wireless, it has been working normal since. I restarted a few times, green came right back.
James since you had the right idea I gave you the 10 points. Thank you for being helpful.

just did firm ware update on time capsule an now my airport express not connected do to air port utilities doesn't support base station ?

I have been experiencing some networking problems
    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I have the latest Time Capsule ("TC"), an old Airport Extreme Base Station ("AEBS") bought in 2007 and 2 Airport Expresses, one bought in 3 months ago ("AE-Alpha") and the other bought back in 2007 ("AE-Beta"). All of them have been updated with the latest firmware.
Based on those dates, the AirPort Extreme is probably flat (as opposed to dome-shaped), making it 802.11n-capable. The Newer AirPort Express is probably an 802.11n-capable model A1264, while the older one is probably a model A1084 or A1088.
I use {the TC's} DHCP function ... to avoid unauthorized use.
This a discussion for another thread, but that's not what DHCP is for.
The wireless setting for it is to participate as WDS Main, but after reading various posts, it seems WDS is a bad idea
With that older AirPort Express you're stuck with WDS unless you decide to replace it with a newer model.
The AEBS is currently setup as being a WDS Relay at the moment
Why a relay? That's only needed if there's another base station "beyond" it that is configured to depend on it.
Since the AEBS is connected to the TC via Ethernet, you should probably configure it as a "roaming network":
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2273124
{The AE-Alpha} connects fine as WDS remote at the moment
I don't have any experience with mixed WDS and non-WDS networks, but since it's 802.11n-capable, you may be able to configure it to "extend" the network of the TC rather than as WDS. Look for a setting on the TC to "Allow this network to be extended".
    Physical location:
AEBS in one end, TC and AE-Alpha in the middle while AE-Beta on the other end.
A device such as "AE-Beta" that's supposed to extend a network shouldn't be "at the end" but should be half way between the central base station and the clients that need an extended network.

  • Airport express intermittently locks up

I have an Airport Express (AE, A1264, 802.11n) which I've configured to play music thru my AV receiver from my MacBook Pro - the AE is only 10 feet from the computer. It locks up dropping the wireless connection with the computer intermittently; I don't have Internet and the orange blinking light just goes solid orange. It stays in that state for up to 2-3 minutes and then goes back to broadcasting. Is there anything that I can test/fix to determine the cause. Is the AE defective? It's out of warranty and I'm not sure what to do next. It obviously is sub optimum in its current state.

The 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) would not get a Public IP address, but it would have a Private IP address of 10.0.1.1 ... and it would be providing wireless clients connected to it with Private IP addresses in the 10.0.1.2 - 10.0.1.200 range.
I just verified that this works. Please double-check your settings to see if you may have missed something.
AirPort Utility > Select the AXn > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name: <enter a desired Network Name or SSID>
Radio Mode: <leave the default or select a desired radio mode>
    Channel: Automatic
Wireless Security: <select the desired wireless security type>
    Internet > Internet Connection
    Connect Using: Ethernet
Connection Sharing: Distribute a range of IP addresses
    Internet > TCP/IP
    Configure IPv4: Manually
    IP Address: 10.0.1.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router Address: 10.0.1.1
    DNS Server(s): <leave blank>
    Domain Name: <leave blank>
    Internet > DHCP
DHCP Beginning Address: <leave default or change to a desired starting address>
DHCP Ending Address: <leave default or change to a desired ending address>
    Music
    Enable AirTunes (checked>
iTunes Speaker Name: <leave default or enter a desired speaker name>
    Advanced > Logging & Statistics
    Allow SNMP (unchecked)
Your AXn will still report at least three errors: 1) Configuration of WAN, 2) SNMP over WAN, and 3) Double NAT. These can all be safely ignored to stop the AXn's status light from flashing amber in this configuration.

  • Airplay, Airport Express not working, 10.7.1 (Lion)

    Hi,
Trying to connect to external speakers connected to airport express. I've done this successfully before but I've recently upgraded to Lion and now cannot connect:
I see the airport express listed in itunes, but when I click it, it just sets back to "computer" without any error message.
If I click "multiple speakers," the airport express has a lock icon next to it. When I try to check it, it simply won't allow me to check it.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

  • Airport Express not Connecting Wirelessly

    Hi,
I'm on a Windows 7 machine. I'm using a Airport Extreme (802.11AC) as a router for my fiberoptic connection. That has been working fine for about six months. Today, I decided to extend the wireless coverage so I purchased an Airport Express (802.11N Second Generation). I cannot get the amber light to stop flashing and the only way I am able to get the device to show up in Airport Utility is if I plug it directly into the Airport Extreme.
I've reset the device multiple times without success.
I have just finished downloading the Airport Utility for Windows. I went through all of the prompts and set up the Airport Express to extend my existing wireless network. I was able to get the device to show up in the Airport Utility (both for the Windows and the iPad apps). However, the second I unplug it from the Airport Extreme, the connectivity goes away.
I don't believe it's a signal strength issue because I'm plugging it in at a location where I've been connecting wirelessly to the Airport Extreme for six months or so and never had a problem. However, just to be safe, I have tried moving it to two separate locations without any luck.
While I was searching the support articles, I found one where a user suggested that the TCP/IP addresses may have become corrupted. Then, they linked to a Microsoft page that included a utility to fix those issues. I ran the utility, but still have not had any success.
Here's a summary of what I have done:
    1. Reset the device via the reset button on the back.
    2. Connected via ethernet cable to the Airport Extreme basestation and completed setting up the device through the Windows utility. Was able to get to a green light and have the Airport Express registering as visible on both the iPad and Windows Airport Utility apps.
    3. Checked wireless strength by attempting setup at multiple locations.
    4. Installed a Microsoft TCP/IP using their NetShell utility.
    Devices involved:
    Windows 7 machine
    Airport Extreme (802.11AC)
    Airport Express (802.11N Second Generation)
    Airport Utility version 7.7.3
What am I missing? Any suggestions about how to resolve this?

If you connect an Ethernet cable to the Express, then AirPort Utility thinks that this is the way that the Express is going to be set up permanently.
If you want the Express to connect using wireless, you cannot use an Ethernet cable at all during the setup.
Reset the Express back to factory default settings
Power off the AirPort Extreme for a minute, then power it back up
Temporarily, locate the Express in the same room or close proximity to the Express
On the iPad home screen......tap Settings
    Tap WiFi
Under the heading of Setup an AirPort Base Station
    Tap on AirPort Express
    Follow the prompts
Once the Express is set up, move it to a location that is approximately half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area where  you need more wireless coverage.  Reason.....the Express can only extend the quality and speed of signal that it receives from the AirPort Extreme.

  • Old airport express not recognized by airport utility

Mine is a two part problem.  I was having issues with my old Airport Extreme Base Station.  I was dramatically losing data transfer speeds just 20-30 feet from its location.  I also noticed that signal strength no longer made it upstairs to the master bedroom.  I thought that after 6 years, it finally died on me. I purchased a brand new Netgear dual band 5G router and performance improved but I still am having difficulty with the non-5G band upstairs.  (I understand that 5G doesn't travel as far but is faster.  I thought it would be better to use my other network for devices upstairs.)  I still have the Airport Extreme and believe it or not, a really old Airport Express.  I've tried to use both to extend the range of my non-5G network and have failed miserably at both.  The Airport Extreme keeps giving me problems during set up to extend range and my Airport Utility doesn't even support the Express.  (see photo)
    Any suggestions?

    Two separate issues here:
I still have the Airport ExtremeThe AirPort Extreme would not be compatible with a Netgear router if you are trying to "extend" or "repeat" the signal from the Netgear wirelessly.
The reason.....Apple designed their "extend" feature to only work with other Apple routers, so it would be extremely unlikely that this feature would work with a 3rd party router for the purpose that you ask about.
If you are able to permanently connect the Extreme to the Netgear router using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, then the Extreme could be configured to provide additional wireless coverage in that manner.
Airport Utility doesn't even support the Express.  (see photo)
That would be correct if you have the older A1084 or A1088 versions of the AirPort Express. To confirm, locate the model number on the side of the Express.....hard to see....you may need a magnifying glass to see the number.
It will take a Mac running the older Leopard or Snow Leopard operating system, or a PC with AirPort Utility installed to be able to administer the older Express.
Unfortunately, this version of the Express does not even have an "extend" feature, to it too would also need to be permanently wired to the Netgear or the Extreme if you need more wireless coverage from the Express.

  • AirPort Express not recognized by AirPort Utility, but connected to WiFi network

    Hi all,
This problem with AirPort Express is driving me nuts. I purchased AX to use it mainly for AirPlay, but I never managed to get it fully working.
It seems to be working fine for some time after initial boot, but then the AirPlay play option disappears from iTunes, and AirPort Utility (5.6.1) no longer finds any AirPort device.
I'm using a Planet WNRT-625G router as a base station (connected to my modem box), and I'm joining this WiFi network as a client (I understand extending the network does not work if it's not an AirPort Extreme station?). The WiFi is protected by a WPA2 pre-shared key, and I have tried using different channels. I have assigned a fixed IP to my AX... all to no avail.
In the status details of my router, I can see that the AX is connected, and I am able to ping my AX... but all Apple software cannot find its own device. Any clue what may be going wrong? How does the AirPort Utility find AirPort devices?
Thanks to all in advance for your help and ideas! Appreciate it.
    jfk-007

by design the AX will create a separate network when it starts up for the first time.
click on the airport icon in your menu bar. you should see something like Apple network XXXXXXXX. in order to set up the express, you will have to temporarily join its network !
you will get a message asking "do you really want to switch networks ?" and you do want to do that.  now you should see the AX in AU. click on the icon of the AX once to highlight it, then click continue.
follow onscreen instructions to either have the AX create a new or join an existing network.

  • Airport express not working after updating to 7.6.3

    Hi all,
I bought my airport express about 6 months ago. It's been working perfectly. Then this morning, I woke up to the blinking amber lights, not good.
I restarted the modem, and checked the connection (by hooking up my mbp directly to the modem) and everything is fine. I plugged in the ethernet cable to airport express, powered down then up, no luck. Airport utility popped up (on my mbp) asking me to update firmware to 7.6.3 (I had 7.6.2). So I reconnected my mbp to the modem and updated the firmware, connected the ethernet cable back to airport express, powered down/up, still no luck. I grew desperate and did a hard reset, still nothing!
I am not sure what happened here, or if anything had changed, since it was working fine as I went to bed last night.
anyone else seen this before? i checked with Apple, it seems that my airport express is out of the free-repair period.
    pls help
    thanks a lot

Worked on it some more and finally realized that I've plug the ethernet cable in the LAN port instead of WAN port. So, internet is back. Still don't know what happened (when it died), but owell.

  • AirPort Express not connecting to Airport Extreme on Ethernet port

Not sure how to connect the express when using extreme on a ethernet connection.

Got help from Apple, the Airport Express must be configured through a wireless connection first and then the Ethernet connection will pic it up. Which it did.

  • Airport express not allowing PC or xbox on to network with WEP password

    Hi there
Ever since we switched from PC to Mac about 5 years ago our airport express (purchased 2007) has not allowed a PC or other gaming device on to it's network. I have two MacBooks at the moment which needed to be configured with slightly different IPv4 addresses in order to be on the network. That was about a year ago when we bought a new MB and I thought it strange when both computers would not connect and it was a bit of a drama lugging both computers to the store in order for the techs to manually fix the issue.
Now we have an international student living with us and it is very important that he is able to connect with his PC to our network. My son's DS and xbox is never allowed to connect to our network using the WEP password that we use for our Macs. It is a very frustrating situation now as I do not think that the Mac store can help us out since I asked for advice a while ago when trying to connect my son's gaming consoles and they said they could not help with non apple products. This is a little odd as I thought that Airport would connect all devices. Our internet provider cannot help us as it is NOT a modem issue.
I should also add that at least twice a day our Macbooks 'fall off' our network and we have to turn the airport off and on in order to reboot the connection. I also have an iphone and that connects to our network although occasionally it will ask me to rejoin and prompt me to enter the password which I do but it rejects it. I usually press cancel and for some reason it connects fine despite not accepting the password.
My question is this: Can I connect other devices to airport and if so, how? Or is our airport faulty and should I replace it? I really don't want to buy a new device if the same problem is still going to occur.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    bump
    I'd love some feedback....anyone?
