Airport express not working properly

Airport Express can't be found on my Powerbook G4. I'm right next to it so that's not the issue. Another pc in the house is connected and can pick it up no problems.
I have tried resetting it to no avail. Tried the admin utility but can't do anything as can't find anything to do something with...(same with setup assistant) - I just returned from a week away and this is really frustrating.
If anyone can offer some prectical insights they would move magically to the top of my friends list.
Thanks in advance for your time.
DK

Managed to find an answer for others in the same situation. It seems to be something to do with another wireless network nearby using the same channel.
I solved it by logging onto the admin utility with the PC that could access the network and manually change the channel.
Works fine now.

  • Airport express not working properly after upgrade to 10.2.8

Hi and thanks in advance for your advice. I have searched the forums but didn't see my problem listed. I upgraded her ibook recently. B4 the upgrade, no problem connecting wirelessly to the DSL gateway. My office is in the basement under the steel I-beam, so the ibook was hooked up via ethernetduring and post upgrade . I was able to send and receive email and get to the web. I returned the ibook to her and she can't send email. Now here is the really weird part, she can receive email but not send it. She uses the ibook for email and documents and surfing the web. One for three isn't good. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again

Incoming packets (reading/receiving email for instance) works because the MTU of the incoming packets is OK.
MTU problems are identified on sending data (like sending email) because the outgoing packets are too big.

  • Airport Express not working properly since 4.2 update

I use AE for Airtunes and it worked great until the 4.2 update several months ago. Since then it the light has remained solid amber unless I unplug it and then plug it back in. After doing this, it will remain green and connected while it is being used by iTunes, and then go back to solid amber a short time later. There are also times that the light goes out completely, and I have to unplug it. I have tried a hard reset (many times) and I have tried uploading the default software.
I would like to revert to the previous firmware if possible, or if there are other fixes to this I would like to hear them. As far as I know, this has happened to a very few people and no one knows the exact cause.

I had just updated my previously beautifully functional AE with the version 6.2 firmware update and simultaneously updated my iTunes to 4.6. Although both the firmware and software installations were successful, the new connectivity is horrible.
More info: my AE is used exclusively for AirTunes and worked well with both PC and Mac versions of iTunes up to 4.6 (OS X 10.3.9). Both Mac and PC have ample amount of memory, disk space, and compatible wifi cards and have performed well with the AE in the past.
The music will stream for a while, then stop, then stream again. I don't even get the "Rebuffering Stream" message, it just stops. Sometimes when it stops it stalls my iTunes, only when it "wakes up" I can play another song but it has to reconnect to the AE - sometimes successfully sometimes not.
I thought it may be traffic related, but this problem happens when there is absolutely no other traffic on the network - I tested that out. This also happens with all other programs closed and no other "stresses" exist on the source maching streaming the tune-age. This is repeatable on both PC and Mac machines.
I used the link above to revert to the previous version of my firmware and the same problem exists (wierd). Admittedly I hadn't done a firmware EVER before this and have had the previously functional AE for about a year.
Are there any known connectivity issues for the AE? I couldn't find anything like this in my search.
Also, I'm successfully configured as a wireless client to play AirTunes (not a repeater) with 40 bit WEP password set up (authentication is fine).
    Any ideas?

  • HT2508 airport Express not working in Mountain Lion

My old airport express stopped working properly since I loaded Mountain Lion.  I purchased a new Airport Express and it will work, but the audio fades in and out.  I am connected from the airport express unit to my audio receiver via a 3.5 out into RCA (red/white) connector into the receiver.  Can someone suggest a cure?

I have three printers up and running connected to an Air Port Express,
and since I upgraded to Lion I can't connect to any of them, so I continued using SL on this MBP17.
System Preferences does not show any of my printers.
I opened Air Port and it says I need to update.
When I click on the update button, it takes me to the App Store, but no Air Port Software — What gives?
Now having the same problems with Mountain Lion.
Hoped ML would fix the problem, but NO.
I find I have to save documents to a flash drive and go to my old PowerMac G4 to print.
Steve we miss you. Apple is going to crap without you.

    try this:
go system preferences > network > airport > advanced > TCP/IP and set *configure IPv6* to off. click on apply.
now have iTunes connect to the remote speaker again.

  • Airport Express not working with Comcast

I used to have AT&T and had my airport working well. Yesterday i changed to Comcast and my airport is not working the light stays yellow.. I tried resetting it but it didn't work.. I use it with my old Cisco router and its working. Whats wrong with my Airport Express? My computers are Windows 7

A solid amber light indicates that the AirPort Express has locked up....or it is defective.
Suggest you that try a Factory Default Reset as follows:
    Pull the Express from power
Let it rest for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it for another 8-10 seconds while you plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow 40-45 seconds to restart
The Express should display a slow, blinking amber light at this time
If you continue to see a solid amber light after a few tries with a Factory Default Reset, the Express has failed and it will need to be replaced.

  • Airport express not working with apple products

We have been trying to get airport express to work with a macbook pro, ipad2, iphone, laptop, htc wildfire - havent even tried the air music or printer yet!
We have a green light on the airport express which is connected to an ntl cable modem(virgin media network).
Currently the only thing that will connecy is the laptop and my htc phone.  All the apple products will not connect?
We went to the apple store today and it worked grand when it was plugged in - the apple products all worked.
The network comes up on ipad2 but when you press connect it says 'unable to connect'
    can anyone help us please?
    thank you

I have the same issue.  Mine fixed itself for a bit and now it's broken again.  I'm thinking it's going to be intermittently broken.  I've tried turning both devices off and on again but that did not help.

  • Airport Express Not Working

Maybe someone can give me a hand. The airport express is working great for AirTunes but will not hookup to the internet. We've plugged in via ethernet wire and it works fine. We've also tried resetting the airport and unplugging it, resetting our computer. No dice. On the top of the computer screen the aiport indicator reads full internet perfectly but cannot connect. We're stumped.
Thanks for anyone who can give us a hand.

Assuming you have a green light and you wireless mac can see the network but you have no internet; unplug the cablemodem for a minute.

  • Airport Express not working with Motorola Surfboard Sb6141 and TWC

My 2012 Airport Express was working fine with my Motorola Surfboard Sb6141 and TWC until about a week ago when the signal started dropping constantly. I hard wired the modem to my computer and everything worked fine. I took the Airport Express to the Genius Bar and it is working fine. I have followed the instructions posted throughout this board to reset the AE to factory settings, then turn everything off for 1/2 hour, turn on just the modem, the the AE 15 minutes later and the computer 15 minutes after that, but to no avail. When I try to set up the AE using Airport Utility, it allows me to assign a name and password, but then the light goes to solid amber and I get "An unexpected error occurred. Try again." Any ideas?

I'm still struggling trying to get the SB6141 to stay connected with my Airport Extreme but it drops altogether every day or 2 but if you're looking for an alternative, I've heard the Netgear CMD31T works well with the airport.

  • DTS (5.1) Audio Through Airport Express: Not Working

I imported some DTS-encoded WAV files into iTunes, to stream to my audio system via an Airport Express. The AE is connected to the preamp via optical, the WAV files were not converted or modified in any way, and the volume is @ 100% in iTunes.
The preamp receives the files and the DTS icon lights up, so all seems to be good... except the audio output is 2.0 only. As a test I converted the files to Apple Lossless (since I know the AE has to make that conversion), same result.
As another test I turned down the volume in iTunes and the audio became white noise, another indication that the files are DTS.
If I burn an audio CD using iTunes and the same WAV files, and play them on my OPPO player I get 5.1, the final and conclusive proof that the files are properly encoded.
I know I've read that streaming DTS-encoded audio via the Airport Express is possible, so I'm not sure what I might be doing wrong.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I experienced some DTS files in iTunes, with my AirPort Express some months ago, it was working fine on my Marantz receiver. A few days ago I wanted to listen to them again, only white noise... I wanted to rip by myself a DTS-CD, therefore I found this out. Apparently since AirTunes has been turned to AirPlay, it's not working anymore (?) / the same way.

  • Airtunes/airport express not working with MacBook

I have a new Macbook and an older Powerbook. The Powerbook is working nicely with my airport express and airtunes. I copied all settings to the new Macbook and configured it the same way, I also did the firmware update.
ITunes found the airport express, connected and I could listen to the music.
Later during the day it didn't work anymore, although I didn't change any settings. ITunes can no longer connect to the airport express, the airport utility does find the base station, but I can no longer configure or reset it.
I started the old Powerbook again which is still working without problems
What can I do to get the Macbook working as well ?

Same issue here!! Everything working fine with OS X Tiger. As soon as I upgraded to Leopard the problems detecting the AX started. The setup I have is the following:
    -Linksys wireless router
-AX connects to wireless network to play songs through iTunes and to print via USB printer.
The green light on the AX is solid which means that it is connecting to the existing wireless network just fine. The problem lies with Leopard detecting and connecting to the AX. I have tried just about everything over the last few days and nothing seems to work. Some resets and updates let my macbook detect the AX for a little while but then it starts to drop and cannot be detected anymore. Apple HAVE to do something about this. These are two apple products not communicating properly. What ever happened to the good old days of apple products being so user friendly and "plug-and-play"

  • AirPort Express NOT working with Belkin N1 Vision (Model : F5D8232-4)

I cannot manage to make it work properly....
I've followed the instructions to set up the network. My Mac can detect my AirPort Express (APE) and an IP has been distributed successfully. And the solid green light was shown after setting up. However, the AirTune cannot detect my APE in iTunes...
Any solution for that? Please suggest. Thanks!

    Norman,
There could be a couple of issues, if you could provide more information about the settings you have chosen that might help. However if your AE is new call Apple they can assist you on setting it up.
I also use a Belkin router and found initially my security was set at 128 bit WEP which the AE had a tough time with. Once I reset the security to WPA/WPA2-Personal(PSK) things went much smoother. You will probably have to do a reset of your AE by plugging it in, using a pen or paperclip hold in the reset button until the light starts blinking rapidly and then take out the pen/clip. Once you have done that start over on the installation process.
Another possibility is if there are multiple wireless networks in your vicinity you can get interference if they are all competing for the same channel. There is a free application called iStumbler (just Google it) that will look for all the WiFi networks in your area and let you know the channel they are on. If you find several all using the same channel then simple go into your Belkin's settings and change the channel to one not being used. I ran into this problem too, I live in a Condo with 5-6 WiFi Lans all within a close proximity.

  • Airport Express not working after power blip

    Hello,
I have been  here before and gotten a lot of great advice from participants here, but I forgot my user name so I'm starting fresh. Anyway, I have a feeling I'm in for some bad news but I thought I would post just in case...
I have an Airport Express plugged directly into the wall behind my iMac in my house, and it has worked great for about 20 months. The computer where I installed and maintained the Airport Express is an iMac running OSX 10.7.5, if that matters.
Two nights ago our power went out for approximately 5 seconds.
I immediately discovered our WiFi was out. I checked the AirPort Express and it was flashing very fast yellow.
I first restarted the cable modem and verified that it was still working. The ethernet cord worked. I got out the manual and tried following all the instructions for resetting the Airport. The Airport device never showed up in the airport utility. At one point after using the reset button on the Airport, the light mysteriously changed to solid green and I thought I had a chance, but the device still didn't show up in the utility and after I unplugged the device again it just started the fast yellow light flashing again.
I have gone through other recent threads on this topic and I keep thinking I'm missing something. In the whole life of this device it's only gone down once before and it was a long confusing frustrating struggle to get it to work again, but I did. At that time the device was doing the same thing (flashing yellow) and wasn't showing up in the Airport Utility but somehow I got it working again. So I'm hoping maybe, just maybe, there's a procedure I haven't tried.
I understand people say you should protect your equipment with surge protectors and we actually do have everything else plugged into one. But the manual of the Airport Express makes such a big deal about obstructions and cords and other electronic equipment and shows a picture of the device plugged directly into the wall, so that's what I did. If it got fried in that power blip and I have to buy a new one, should I just plug it into the surge protector anyway?
If it's dead for good, I'm annoyed that I got less than 2 years of use out of it. I read in a thread here that they die on a lot of people because they run really hot and 2 years is average life. Seriously?
If I take it to the "genius" bar, will they be able to determine if it's dead or not before I buy a new one? Should I buy something else more reliable...ie, non-Apple possibly? If I had known this device had reliability problems, I would have shopped around more, but I always buy Apple.
Thank you for reading this and any reccommendations would be appreciated.
    sincerely,
    susan

A rapidly flashing LED is unusual, and strongly indicates a problem that can't be fixed.
I read in a thread here that they die on a lot of people because they run really hot and 2 years is average life. Seriously?
I doubt it; I have never had any of them fail and the oldest is about six years old. I don't pay any particular attention to cooling requirements. There were a rash of power-supply related failures due to defective components a long time ago, but it has been many years now. It affected many manufacturers of electronic equipment, not just Apple.
will they be able to determine if it's dead or not before I buy a new one?
Yes, absolutely. They will "hard reset" it, which you can do yourself before you go. See below. That is the extent of Apple's AirPort Express troubleshooting ability.
The damage it sustained may not have been related to power anomalies at all. In fact, if the power supply was damaged you probably wouldn't get any LED activity at all. I suspect the damage may have involved to your cable company's equipment. Improper lightning protection or surge suppression is very common, and can affect everything connected to your cable company's equipment. You should consider contacting them to determine if their equipment is properly installed. They're going to say their liability is limited to their equipment, and anything beyond their cable modem is your problem, so make sure they did their work properly.
To "hard reset" an AirPort Base Station: make sure it's powered up, then press and hold its tiny reset button and keep it depressed for five to ten seconds, long enough for its LED to flash amber rapidly. Release the reset button. Then, the LED will glow amber steadily for about a minute. Then, it will flash amber, slowly, about once every second or two, waiting for you to configure it with AirPort Utility.

  • Airport express not working after updating to 7.6.3

    Hi all,
I bought my airport express about 6 months ago. It's been working perfectly. Then this morning, I woke up to the blinking amber lights, not good.
I restarted the modem, and checked the connection (by hooking up my mbp directly to the modem) and everything is fine. I plugged in the ethernet cable to airport express, powered down then up, no luck. Airport utility popped up (on my mbp) asking me to update firmware to 7.6.3 (I had 7.6.2). So I reconnected my mbp to the modem and updated the firmware, connected the ethernet cable back to airport express, powered down/up, still no luck. I grew desperate and did a hard reset, still nothing!
I am not sure what happened here, or if anything had changed, since it was working fine as I went to bed last night.
anyone else seen this before? i checked with Apple, it seems that my airport express is out of the free-repair period.
    pls help
    thanks a lot

Worked on it some more and finally realized that I've plug the ethernet cable in the LAN port instead of WAN port. So, internet is back. Still don't know what happened (when it died), but owell.
