AirPort Express, only one device connected at a time.

I was setting up my uncles Airport Express yesterdy and got everything set up and the wifi signal broadcasting properly. It was then time to set up his iPad. I used a windows computer to set up the iPad and everything was going fine. After the iPad was running and I connected it to the network, I would lose the signal from the PC. From that point forward I would only be able to access the internet on the PC when the iPad's wifi was turned off.
I have had this problem with other routers before but was never able to figure out the problem. Is there something that I am missing? any help would be appreciated. I set the netork up with the default settings and set up a password to the network that has been entered correctly on both machines. Any help will be appreciated.

How do you have your Airport Express setup?
On the Internet tab, what do you have for "Connection Sharing" ?
Off (Bridge Mode) ?
Share a public IP address ?
Other ?
Is your modem from your Internet provider just a modem, or a router, or a wireless router ????
More info is needed.

  • 2 Airport Expresses, only one can connect

Have 2 airport expresses....if I turn off password protection on the router, I can connect them both with zero issues through the airport utility.  As soon as I change back to password protection, I can only get one to be "seen" by the airport utility after factory resetting.  Any suggestions?  The router is a 2wire from Uverse.

Mmmm, when you go to set up the second one, you could connect it by ethernet to your computer to make sure it is seen.

  • Only one device connecting to the internet?

Lost power from Hurricane Sandy, internet would not come back online, replaced the cable modem, now one laptop connects to the internet but not the other computers or iPhones or iPad.  Comcast is USELESS (most polite description I have for them).
My Airport Extreme shows Excellent quality on all devices connected to it, but the Internet (brand new cable modem Motorola SB5120) shows yellow, connection: Disconnected, but does have a router address for all but one computer which is able to connect to the internet via this network.  I have restarted, rebooted, and reconfigured my network.  Why is one device able to connect but no others?  What are my troubleshooting options?
    Thank you!

Only one device (the laptop) can connect to the Internet?
    Or
Only one device at a time can connect to the Internet?
Power off the laptop that can connect
Power off the cable modem and AirPort Extreme as well
    Wait 5-10 minutes
Power up the modem first and let it run a few minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme next the same way
Power up the iPad and see if it can connect to the Internet

  • Suddenly only one computer connects at a time

I have an airport extreme.  It's connected by ether to my cable modem unit.  My desktop iMac runs it's online through the extreme....and then whenever I bring my work laptop home (Powerbook) it automatically joins my wireless network.  It' worked this way for over a year.
The other night my server/internet provider went down.  It was not my malfunction, it was the server company.  But I didn't know it at first and I was trying to get it back up on my iMac.  When I found out it was my server, I waited and later that night it came back up and everything was working.  At least my iMac.  I forget whether I tried out my laptop....I think I did, but I was packing to go out of town.
Now I've arrived back from out of town and I find that the iMac is connected and working to internet but the laptop is not.  I do a diagnostics and restart the modem and the laptop is then online and working.  But then my iMac upstairs is suddenly not online, but the laptop is.  So it seems suddenly that I'm only able to get one of the computers onto the wireless network at a time.  I could do the network diaganostics on the laptop again, which would tell me to restart the modem and then it would probably be working on the laptop, but as the pattern is showing I then suspect my desktop iMac would not be on again.  Why are they connecting only exclusively to each other???  I had not problem prior to this.
    Thanks,
    James

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon, then the Internet Connection tab
The setting for Connection Sharing is likely Bridge Mode.
It should be Share a public IP address.
Make the change and click Update
Then, it would be a good idea to restart the entire network in sequence. Power everything off then start the Modem first, then next device, etc.

  • Only one wireless connection at a time....Please Help

Since updating to 10.4.9 I can only connect one computer wirelessly at a time....when I had 10.4.8 on all three laptops ther were no wireless problems at all...Is there anyone else with this problem?

Okay, so when one computer is using the 802.11 band, no other computers can establish a media-level connection. Is that correct? In essence, the one connection locks out everything else. The MAC addresses of the other computers are not in the arp cache of the Actiontec, because they are not able to communicate via 802.11. The Multiplexing has gone from OFDM.
This is a weird one. I think I was wrong about the configuration. As odd as it sounds, it must be something with 10.4.9. I think when you rolled back to 10.4.8 you must have retained the Airport2 kext. If you get info on /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAirPort2.kext it should be 4.0.4, I think. 4.0.5 is in 10.4.9. Further granularity can be seen if you enter this in Terminal:
    $kextstat | grep -i airport
    I get this:
    81 0 0x735000 0x69000 0x68000 com.apple.iokit.AppleAirPort2 (405.1) <37 16 11 2>
which says its AppleAirPort2 version 4.0.5.1 If you use pacifist and the 10.4.8 install disk you can get your original one back.
Lots of people have reported problems with 10.4.9 and Airport. But yours is a doozy.

  • Two Macs - only one can connect to Airport at a time

Starting today, after 10 days of successful operation, when I came home I couldn't connect to my home (new "square" Airport Extreme) network with my Core 2 MacBook Pro. My wife was happily connected on her PowerBook G4.
Puzzled, I tried a few obvious things:
Airport OFF, Airport ON ... no joy
Logout and back in ... no joy
    Restart ... no joy
Then I turned my attention to the Base Station:
    Restart ... nope
Change to "None" security ... nope
Change back to "WPA Personal" ... nope
Humbled, I stopped and had dinner. My wife's G4 went to sleep, my Intel went to sleep. Now it gets interersting! My Intel woke up first and immediately joined the network -- I'm happy till I hear my wife say SHE can't get connected.
To make a long story short, I have two laptops on my desk, and only one can connect at a time! This is BIZARRE. Turn off Airport on either one and its buddy gets a connection immediately, and vice versa. Sleep the connected one and the other connects.
    I am out of ideas.
    Errors on the G4:

    Errors on the MBPro:
various 88001006 errors as reported by others in this forum.
Both Machines at all the latest updates; the MBPro has the new Extreme software installed from the CD that came with the new hardware.
    I would welcome suggestions ...

Software Update is not offering me any Airport updates on the G4 (or the Intel).
The recent Airport Update, "AirPort Extreme Update 2007-001", is of course only for Intel Macs.
They could only be "trying to use the same IP address" if they were not configured to use DHCP, but they are configured to use DHCP, and whichever connects does get an address in the 10.0.1.[2-200] range so I think that's not the problem.

  • After updating Time Capsule to 7.7.2, Airport Expresses can no longer connect

After I update the Time Capsule firmware to 7.7.2, my three Airport Expresses can no longer connect to the Time Capsule (their orange lights blink and they appear inaccessible in the Airport Utility). When I downgrade, they are able to connect fine.
They are connecting to the Time Capsule over my 5GhZ wireless network.
    Any help?

  • Since updating to Yosemite my airport express (used for airplay) connects for a short period then drops, the error message "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Kitchen". The host cannot be reached."  Has anyone else had this?

Since updating to Yosemite my airport express (used for airplay) connects for a short period then drops, the error message "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Kitchen”. The host cannot be reached."  Has anyone else had this problem

I'm having the same issue.  Haven't found a workaround.  I use a main TimeCapsule as my main router, also have another TimeCapsule that extends the network, three Airport Express and an AppleTV.  For whatever reason, the two AirportExpress that I have in a different rooms cut out.  I only have 600 square foot apartment so it's not that big, the signal should be strong enough.  Airport Utilitiy reports the signal strength to be strong on all devices.
I'm using all new equipment, a new MacPro for my music, new TimeCapsules, new Airport Express, new everything with the latest Yosemite software.  Very frustrating.  My Airplay used to work very nice and now I'm constantly having issues and restarting my network.  I did a fresh install of all my software on my MacPro when I got it in January so it's not as if it's an old machine with old software, everything is new within the last 6 months.
The only workaround I found so far is to unplug the devices and to plug them back in.  Since upgrading to Yosemite, I'm restarting my Airport Express at least twice a week.  Very annoying.

  • Airport Express only broadcasts either 2.4ghz OR 5ghz at any one time?

Hi folks...here's hoping someone can help. I've searched high and low, but have not been able to find the answer.
I just got an Airport Express and successfully set it up to extend my existing network (from an Airport Extreme Base Station). However, it seems to be only extending the 2.4GHz signal. When I look at the set-up in Airport Utility, it seems that I would have to select either the 2.4GHz OR the 5GHz...it can't seem to broadcast both signals (unlike the Airport Extreme)
Does the airport express only broadcast either 2.4ghz OR 5ghz at any one time?

Does the airport express only broadcast either 2.4ghz OR 5ghz at any one time?
Yes. If you have the AirPort Express set to "extend a wireless network", it will extend either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band, but not both. The AirPort Express is dual band in a sense that it can handle 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz signals. But, it can't do this simultaneously.
The Express extends the band that it "sees" with the strongest signal, which will be the 2.4 GHz band in most cases because 5 GHz signals are weaker and do not penetrate obstructions or travel over distance as well as 2.4 GHz signals.
If you want to extend both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, you'll need another AirPort Express, or a simultaneous dual band AirPort Extreme would do the trick as well.

  • Can I use the Airport Express only with a LAN connection?

Because I want to connect my macbook (+ all other hardware) via WLAN with my Speedport Router. Which is connect via LAN cable with the Airport Express. Can I then deactivate the WLAN function in the Airport software?
When I try this, I can configure the setup. This works till a restart, after that I cannot find the Airport Express. Already I connect the macbook with the LAN-cable it works again.

    look that
so i have connected my components.
i only want to deactivate the WLAN in the Airport Configuration. if i connected in this way it works without problems. after restart i cannot find the airport express.

  • Airport Express stole my PC connection from the Extreme

(I posted this in the Airport Extreme (802.11n) forum, with no replies, so I will see if I get any luck with it in here).
I recently got the new Airport Express with 802.11n, and have just got it all up and running. My setup is as follows:
Modem is wired to the Airport Extreme.
Airport Extreme is wired to one PC (running Vista).
Airport Extreme is in a WDS network connecting to an Airport Express wirelessly.
Airport Extreme SHOULD be connecting wireless to my Macbook, another PC (running Vista), and a laptop (running Vista).
Airport Express is solely for connecting an Xbox 360 to the ethernet port (for the time being).
What it looks like in the Airport Utility however is that the Airport Express is claiming the wireless clients (as they appear in the wireless clients list, whereas they don't appear in the same list on the Airport Extreme anymore). So what this seems to be doing to my network is letting all the wireless devices (minus the Airport Express which is the only wireless client listed on the Airport Extreme) connect to the Airport Express, thus creating a dual wireless network, which in turn slows my connection to the internet significantly.
All items on the network are set up with DHCP, coz quite frankly, setting up static IP's scares me, haha.
What I would like to do is get the Airport Extreme to pick up all the wireless devices, and the Airport Express to only act as a hub to plug my 360 into.
    Appreciate the impending help!
PS. I should also mention that the Express is set up as a Remote, not a Relay... and yet, that's what it's behaving like.
PPS. For what its worth, I had all my computers turned off, unplugged the Airport Express and Extreme. Turned on ONLY the Extreme, then all of the computers, and it wouldnt even pick up the network from the Extreme where previously (pre-Express) it was fine. As soon as I plugged the Express back in, bam, the computers can connect to the network again... but still through the Express!

Alright, I have solved the problem. So stupid, but I'll let people here know in the event they have the same issue.
On the Airport Express under the WDS tab, there is a tick box that's for "Allow wireless clients" which had to be unticked.... I'm guessing I was too tired last night to make logic of that, like I was thinking that it needed to be ticked in order for the Express to communicate with the Extreme. Apparently not.

  • Airport Express 1084: iTunes stops connecting

    Hi Apple Community,
Thanks in advance for any help/assistance anyone can provide.  My issue:
I own a really old Airport Express (model 1084).  For years, I've only used it to stream music from iTunes on my iMac to speaker in my kitchen.  I've never really had an issue with it.
After upgrading to Yosemite (10.1.1) I now have an issue.  When I start to stream music to my kitchen speaker via the Airport Express connected to it, it initially works just fine.  Then, after roughly a minute, it stops streaming.  The status light on the Airport Express remains green.  When I go back to my iMac, I see that only my "computer" speaker is checked.  When I select "Kitchen Radio" (the name I gave my Airport Express) under the multiple speakers menu, iTunes attempts to re-connect to it, but it never can.  Finally it give me an error message:
"An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Kitchen Radio”. An unknown error occurred (-65568)."
At that point, the only way I can get iTunes to re-connect to my Airport Express is to do a hard reset of the Airport Express (sticking a paperclip into the side of it, then plugging it in and waiting for the status light to flash), then set it up all over again.  If I do that, it will connect to iTunes and begin to stream music again.  But, after a minute, the music stops and the entire cycle repeats itself.
Any ideas on what I can try to do to rectify this issue?
    A few notes:
Since my Airport Express is pretty old and I am running Yosemite, I cannot use the latest Airport Utility (6.3.4) to configure it.  I have to use a workaround "launcher".  I don't think Apple would like me posting what that is, but I believe it's a common one.  In short, the workaround allows me to run Airport Utility 5.6.1 and, after I connect my Airport Express to my iMac via an ethernet cable, I can configure and set it up.
I don't use my Airport Express for anything other than streaming music from iTunes.
The wifi network in my house uses WPA/WPA2 Personal security.
The kitchen speaker I'm connecting to is a basic Tivoli radio (that I've used with my Airport Express for years without issue).
Any other info I can provide anyone, please let me know -- happy to do so!

Had the same problem myself, not with BT specifically, but think the same principal applies...
You currently have 2 wireless networks. One for BT and one for Airport, and the mac can only be connected to one wireless network at a time. The way I got things working was to:
Disconnect the mac from whatever wireless network it's connected to
    Switch off the router
Connect the router to the airport express using an ethernet cable (should have got one with the router)
    Switch the router back on.
The broadband signal is now being broadcast by the airport express, so if you connect to the airport network you can recieve the broadband signal and transmit to the express on the same network.
You can also set your network setting to connect to the airport network automatically. Think it's somewhere in system preferences / network. Can't remember exactly where and i'm not on a mac at the moment
