Airport Express or Airport Extreme to reattach printer separately ?

Currently I have Airport Express for my network where we have our Macbook Pro, Macbook, and HP Printer all successfully networked.
I just picked up at a garage sale, both Airport (with Airtunes) and Airport Extreme.
I'd like to move my printer to the dining room for awhile to work on a large scanning project, and want to know if I can plug it into either the Airport Express (probably that one) and will it automatically become part of the network (i.e. find it itself) or will I have to somehow go back to the Network settings and set it up. If so, where can I find the settings I have? I've misplaced the book I wrote it all down in! (my other alternative is to just physically attach the printer to my Macbook but I'd like to be able to use the printer occasionally from the other Mac.)
What will be the difference if I use Airport Extreme with my setup? I'm not sure I will gain anything, but these things were bundled with a wireless keyboard I wanted, so I bought the lot. (for $10)

Here how to configure the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to join the existing wireless network provided by your current AX and allow it to be available to share a USB printer:
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
o Network Name: <existing AX's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>

  • Airport Extreme sporadically drops printer

    Printer: HP DeskJet 6540
Base Station Firmware: Problem present on all firmware revs (most recent two or three)
Issue: At irregular intervals printing fails to the printer from wired and wireless clients. Going to the Airport Utility the Airport Extreme reports no printer.
Fix: In Airport Utility->Manual Setup->Printers uncheck the Bonjour checkbox, click "Update", wait for Airport Extreme to reset, printer reappears as connected, then recheck Bonjour checkbox. Printing works again. Seems to be occurring with greater frequency.
Anyone else seeing this, or is it my base station flaking out?

So I hooked the printer up to my iMac via USB and turned on printer sharing. Much more stable. Easier to manage. Still would prefer to use my Airport since it is an always on device. If anyone shuts down the iMac, the printer is no longer available.

  • Will the AirPort or AirPort Extreme turn any printer into an AirPrint printer?

I have a printer (HP CP1518ni) and I want to know if I get the AirPort/AirPort Extreme will it allow me to use my current printer with my iphone and ipad?

I want to know if I get the AirPort/AirPort Extreme will it allow me to use my current printer with my iphone and ipad?
Plugging your printer into the AirPort Express or AirPort Exteme will not make it AirPrint compatible.
If your printer is not already AirPrint compatible, an App like Print Central installed on the iPad and iPhone might allow you to print.

  • Airport Extreme Wireless USB Printing

    Hey Folks,
I have an airport extreme running the latest firmware. Prior to installing the latest version of the firmware I was able to print wirelessly using a USB hub. My printer is an HP PSC 2510 photosmart all-in-one printer. After I downloaded and installed the latest version of the airport firmware I was no longer able to print wirelessly. I have tired all the suggestions on the apple support web site to no avail. Any suggestions? Anyone with a similar problem. I'm still able to print wired directly to my laptop.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Bonjour all,
I too have the same issue. I have 1 PB Pro, 2 MacBook Pros connected to a Samsung CLP-300 color laser printer via Airport Express' USB port. All Macs are running the latest version of the OS (10.5.2). Prior to 10.5.2 update, everything was working fine for all of the computers with the same exact setup.
Whenever I try to print via Leopard, it does the first time but then I have to flush the printer queue (by turning off and on the printer first and do the same for APE) in order to be able to print again. Otherwise if I don't do this, it seems that the queue never gets flushed properly.
The only way I can print for now (work-around) without problem is via Windows XP emulator on Parallels Desktop v3.0 (build 5584) with the Bonjour driver installed. I have to go under Windows XP to get any type of printouts I would like my apps under Leopard to perform. I essentially create PDF documents (under Leopard) I want to print, then I go in Parallels Desktop - Windoze side using the same printer which is still connected via APE USB port. The queue gets cleaned properly and I can still print other documents without flushing everytime.
To me it appears that Apple Update has created the problem. Not the printer driver!
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers.

  • How can I print from ipad2 via airport extreme to hp printer on USB.

Is there a way to get iPad2 to print via airport extreme to a non wireless hp printer?

Apple - iPad - Print right from your iPad with AirPrint.
Unfortunately, AirPrint will only work with AirPrint enabled HP printers.
Check the HP site. They may have an app available you can use for your USB / Airport printer.

  • How do I configure my AirPort Extreme to allow printing from my Macbook to an HP PSC 1210?

I currently have an AirPort Extreme [model A1354] connected by cable to an iMac [3.2 GHz i3 / 10.6.7]. I have an HP PSC 1210 series "All-in-one" printer attached to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. Printing from the iMac works just fine.  However, I cannot print from my Macbook [ 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo / 10.5.8]. While the printer shows up when I go to "Add a printer", I still cannot print to the printer.  When I hit print, the print window closes, but nothing prints.

Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations. In addition, the  AirPort's USB port does not support the "advanced" printer functions, like scanning, copying or faxing, of multi-function printers.
To see if your printer is compatible, take a look at this iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility link. If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also you can try this Apple Tech Support article to see if it will help: Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Base Stations and Time Capsule
Finally, check out this IBM support article to see if your printer is listed as having a Postscript or PCL3 interface. If it does, then it will most likely work with the AirPort's USB port. Printers that use the "HP LIDIL" interface must be connected to a computer directly and will not work.

  • Airport Extreme loses USB printer unless printer left on all the time

Running the 802.11n Extreme with firmware 7.1.1 and Airport Utility 5.2.1 (released 13 August 2007) with an Epson RX650 connected directly to the Extreme's USB port.
It appears that the USB port on the Extreme only checks the status of a connected USB printer when the Extreme itself is restarted - if you ever turn your USB printer off (for example, at bedtime) and on again(e.g. the next morning) the Extreme does not re-check the USB port status.
A bit odd, since the intention of USB is to be hot-pluggable...
Any solutions better than restarting the Extreme every time you turn your printer on?

I have this exact same issue,
Airport Extreme just looses my printer all of the time, and leaves Tiger and Leopard in the 'Connecting.' or 'Opening Printer Connection..' stages 40% of the time.
It's an extremely annoying bug, and you have to turn off / un-plug things in the exact order otherwise it just wont:
    a) recognise the printer over it's own USB port or
    b) Finder will never be able to connect to it, even when it can blatantly see it.
My Printer is an Epson R1800

  • IMac connected to Airport Extreme stopped detecting printer

Can't connect any more printer (Epson Stylus SX125) to iMac through Airport Extreme. Any solution?

USB Backup drive connected to USB port on Airport Extreme. Running system 10.5.5
On my Macbook Pro, which I connect wirelessly, I was able to start Time Machine... Time Machine saw the backup drive and did a backup.. Yes it took a long time!! Anyway all is cool with that.
My iMac is connected to the Airport Extreme by Ethernet. On the iMac when I started Time Machine, it does not see the backup hard drive. I can see and share the hard drive... works fine. But no luck with TM seeing the hard drive on the iMac.
Questions is will Time Machine work with a computer that is connected to airport extreme by ethernet. If yes how o you set it up and what might be wrong??
yes, it should work. hard to say what's wrong. try the following terminal command. it should not be necessary but it should help.
    defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1
One other important thing to mention. At first I plugged my new backup hard drive directly into the iMac with firewire 800. I started time machine and started the backup. I then stopped that backup and plugged the backup hard drive into the Airport extreme (USB port) I then trashed the partial backup folder off the backup hard drive. Is it possible that on the iMac there is still some TM file there pointing to the old original backup file??
have you emptied trash? you should. the files won't really be deleted till you do. there is one other hidden file but it should not be necessary to remove it.
    Thanks.... any help is appreciated.

  • Airport Extreme and Wireless Printing

Okay so i know that you can make wireless printing by simply connecting your printer to the airport extreme. However I have a wireless printer and i read somewhere that the extreme does not allow the wireless printer to be discovered when used with the extreme. I want to know if this is true. I currently use a linksys router and whenever i print something, the first time takes forever for it to detect the printer. I am hoping that a newer router will help but i want to know if the extreme does support wireless printers.

Same issue here. I recently upgraded to an Airport Extreme and can no longer print wirelessly. Before this router I used a different brand of wireless router and had no issues. When I go to the printer itself, an HP OfficeJet 7410, and look for networks on the little display it can see mine and the neighbors. However, when I tell it to join the network it gives me an error message along the lines of "Cannot join this network." New network password has been entered.

  • Airport extreme and HP printer over ethernet problem

I'm new here, so forgive me if this topic has been done to death. I'm running airport extreme and have an HP photosmart 2600 connected to it via ethernet. My wife has no trouble printing with her Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard), but my daughter's older iMac only prints very intermittantly and mostly not at all.I've tried all the sharing options and reinstalling/updating the HP software, but no luck. The printer is at the other end of the house from the Airport, so connecting via usb is not an option. Any assistance much appreciated, thanks.

Using Ethernet should give the best results, plus it allows the use of more than just the print function, which USB would not. Proof of that should be the fact that this older HP model (it works with OS 9!!!) works well with your recent Mac's Snow Leopard OS.
If the iMac has OS X 10.5.8, the correct printer driver should have already been installed and no further update would have been needed. All that should have been needed was to open the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences and add the HP printer as the iMac's default printer.
When the iMac was first unable to print using the HP, did you consider any chance that the iMac was too far from the Extreme, or that there might have been some interference involved? Did you power cycle starting with the modem? When power cycling is necessary, printers seem to throw off unexplainable errors (such as out of paper or ink, paper jam - when none of these is true).

  • Airport Extreme Hard Drive + Printer

    Hello,
When I was reading through the Airport Extreme features on the Apple site, it says that the Extreme supports both a Printer and an external Hard Drive connected to it via a USB hub.
When I launched Airport Utility to see if the HD and Printer was getting recognised I noticed that the printer is listed as a Hard Drive as well as a Printer?! and the actual Hard Drive is listed no where.
Any ideas how to solve this?
    Thanks.

    How was the problem solved?

  • Airport Extreme issue with printer

I recently switched to an Airport Extreme to replace my linksys router.   Since then, I am no longer able to find my Epson Artisan 810 printer when I try to install it.  (I'd been printing with it for about a year prior). My PC has no problem with printing and all of my devices are able to find the wireless signal with no issues.   I also added OS X Lion at the same time.   Now  I am unable to print through my Macbook Pro.  Has anyone had similar issues and found a solution.  Thank you!!

I just spent several hours linking an Epson Workforce 600 printer to a new Airport Extreme network. On the printer, I reset the printer to its original settings. It was then recognized by the Epson setup software program.

  • Airport Extreme- accessing a printer

I have connected my PC to my Airport Extreme using an Ethernet cable. Can I access my Wifi printer using this method or is the only way to connect the printer to the USB port on the Airport Extreme?

You won't know for sure until you try, but you can get some indication by trying the following "test".
Plug the Dell device into the USB port on the AirPort Extreme and make sure it is powered up.
Open System Preferences (gear icon) on the dock and then open Print & Fax. Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the printer list box.
Does your printer name show up in the next box? If so, click on the printer name to highlight it, then click the Add button at the lower right to install the printer at that location.
Keep in mind that if your device is compatible, only the print function will work when your all-in-one is connected to the AirPort. Scan, copy, maintenance and other functions are not supported when the device is connected to the AirPort, so if you need these services, you'll have to connect the all-in-one directly to your computer when you need them.

  • AirPort Extreme/HP C4108 printer not connecting

My Extreme is working fine for internet connectivity, but when trying to print, during the time when a connection is attempting to be established, it always ends in "Print Job Stopped." I've gone back into the AirPort Utility and MAC printer utilities to verify that the HP C4100 series printer is listed. I've also unplugged and plugged back in the USB cable on the back of the printer and on the Base Station. Lastly, I've turned off and back on the printer. Nothing is working to solve the problem. Any solution forthcoming? One will be much appreciated.
