Airport Express Power Loss!?

I have returned home today to find my airport not working, the light is out and when i try to find my network it has gone. i have replaced the fuse in it but still no light or network!? is it power what can i do????
my wired connection is stuck in the corner or the room downstairs help!

Have you tried these 2 AC adapters and the Airport in comletely different part of the house? Just to see if the lights come on when the Airport is plugged in. make sure there is power/AC at the outlet. Simple way to see if there is power at a outlet is plug a lamp in and turn it on. If you still don't have power to your Airport it could of have a large Voltage/Power surge to it and its fried.....sorry!

Airport Express power cord

I was wondering if there is a way to only buy power plug cord that can allow the Airport Express to not be on the wall? I'd like to connect the cords needed for airtunes, but cannot do it without putting an extension cord on the AE (or using the power plug cord that came with my MacBook) as my extension cord .
As far as I can tell, I find the powercord for powering the MacBook for $79. Or, I find a kit that has the sound cables with the extension cord I need for the AE for $39. But, I only need the extension cord.

You might consider plugging the AirPort Express into a normal white extension cord.
A better solution would be to plug the Express into a surge protector / power strip for added protection against over voltage, power outages or nearby lightining strikes.

Airport express power vs Extreme

Browsing the tech specs for the new Airport Express it lists the transmitter power as 20.5 dBm, which is almost the same as the specification for the Airport Extreme.
So... this would seem to imply that the Express and Extreme, while they have many other differences in features and capabilitites, should have similar ranges? This would seem to be at odds with Apple's advertising that the Express is more suitable for small houses and appartments vs the Extreme.
Aree there any reviews that address this? I have not found any.
I am currentlyusing an old "plug in the wall" Airport Express and would like to upgrade to something that would offer more flexibility in placement. (I've no idea what the power is on the old model).

Thanks for the information. I'll probably go for the new Express as:
1) I can more easily locate it where I wish and,
2) I can hardwire my desktop into the system rather than relying on the Wi-Fi connection, and
3) dual-band capability, and
4) it looks cool. (just kidding)
I'm expecting to see the same coverage as before.... but if I want to extend things I can use my old Express!

AirPort Express Power

Is it a good idea to leave my AirPort Express running all day every day? Should I turn it off weekly? Monthly? I just can't believe it would be okay for technology to just stay running and plugged in 24/7. Would I have to go back through that set-up procedure every time after I unplug it?

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I disconnected my AirPort Express regularly when I didn't use it thinking that doing that would save power. I finally connected it through a power meter and was surprised how little power it used. The Express has no moving parts that could suffer wear. The biggest risk of leaving it plugged in is probably power surges, so I'd connect it through a surge protector or UPS.
Would I have to go back through that set-up procedure every time after I unplug it?
No. It will remember the settings you apply to it.

Airport Express power plug - US vs. Europe?

Hi,
Considering purchasing Airport Express for use in extensive travel in Europe and US. Looking at the pictures on the Apple Store website, it appears that the versions sold in the US and in Europe have different power plugs (makes sense given that the plugd are indeed different). Looking closer, it looks like the power plugs may be 'modular/exchangeable' since there are visible 'lines' around them.
What is the exact situation:
1. when you buy one you get in the box all needed adapters, need to select which one you want and 'fit it' on with the possibility to exchange as you travel?
2. you only get the adapter corresponding to the country where you buy, but there is the possibility to purchase (where?) other modular adapters?
3. you get a monolithic AE hard-configured for the country of purchase and need to plug it through an external adapter in case of travel?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
1. The Intel iMacs all have auto-switching power supplies which will happily work on voltage between 100 - 240Volts AC (50 - 60Hz). All you need to do is provide a replacement mains power cable.
2. I've never heard of any difference between the models in the US and the rest of the world except the early iMac G5s where there as a US/Japan version and a rest of world version. I don't believe there are any quality differences however. The difference in cost is the same difference that all commodities see.

Airport express power surge

I have an airport express connected to my Internet and after getting hit with a storm and possibly a power surge my AIrport express just flickers an amber light and I've tried unplugging and holding the little reset pin on the back but it didn't help and I've tried scanning for my airport express but comes up unsuccessful any ideas on how to fix or is it possible to replace parts or is this just a junked item now?

It is junk.. if you have a low excess on your house insurance it might cover it.. otherwise it is damaged beyond repair.. as a repairer.. even if we fix stuff that has got hit by lightening.. there is no warranty.. all the internal parts will have been stressed far beyond their ratings.. you fix the main part and another can fail in a week. For an item that costs $100.. there is no point in even thinking about it.

AirPort Express Power Cord/Adaptor

The "dongle" for my AirPort Express has developed a small crack in it. As a result it does not have a tight connection and loses power on a frequent basis. I am currently using the power brick extender from my MacBook to power it. Has anyone purchased this "dongle" or another power brick extender? I visited the Apple Store and the "Genuises" had no recommendations.

Cal Applecare, and say you need to make a do-it-yourself parts request. They only cost a few bucks.

Is there a cord power adapter for the Airport Express (N)? If so where can you purchase it?

It's exactly like the extension cord sold with any new MacBook, and you should be able to find it at any Apple Store or Apple reseller – might also try the Apple Store online.

Airport Express Power Consumption

Hi guys.
I'm thinking about buying the Airport Express since I'm in need of a new router. My current router (Netgear N150) can't reach my bedroom with a decent signal though my apartment is only 50 kvm.
As I went to go through the specs of the Airport Express I couldn't find a simple answer to the power consumption. With help from Google on how to turn the given information into something useful I figured out that:
220V * 0,2A = 44 watts
44 watts / 1000 = 0,044 kWh
0,044 kWh * 24 = 1,056 kWh a day.
1,056 * 365 = 385,44 kWh a year.
It seems crazy since I've read that most other routers only use about 8-10 watts.
The reason why I used 220V is because I'm from Denmark. Here our power outlet runs 220-240 V.
With these numbers my annual cost for the Airport Express alone would be: DKK 770 or $141.
My question is:
Does it really use this much power? Or is the numbers sort of based on a constant, massive use?
I really hope you could give me some numbers - especially if you'r from Denmark - that would tell me if this is true.

The technical specifications (http://www.apple.com/airport-express/specs/) confirm the 0.2 A input current. However, an AirPort Express Environmental Report (http://images.apple.com/environment/reports/docs/AirPortExpress_PER_feb2014.pdf) mentions 2.1/2.2 W (idle/active) power at 230 V, which would correspond to a substantially lower current.
I do not know the reason for this difference. A guess could possibly be that the 0.2 A is some kind of temporary/peak value.

Airport Express Intermittent loss of signal from iTunes

My setup has been in place for some time and consists of a Windows machine w/iTunes and an Airport Express connected to my main stereo. Throughout mutliple iterations of iTunes S/W version and Aiport Express Firmware versions, it seems that there are certain versions that were very stable and others that were not. The current iTunes version seems to have this problem regularly and the problem is this - As I'm listening to music streaming from iTunes wirelessly to the Airport Express and to my stereo, it seems to lose connectivyt momentarily and then regain it. I have two Airport Expresses and they both react the same. This is very frustrating. Has anyone else encountered this and is there a solution?

Solved it!
I tried everything - re-installing Airport Firmware, Airfoil, Robustness Interference, passwords for the remote speakers....
It kept nagging at me that the drops were often regular at every 60 seconds and Windows Zero Configuration reportedly checks for a stronger signals every 60 seconds.
So today I tried installing the Manufacturer's Wireless Utility and disabling Microsoft's Windows Zero Configuration. This worked perfectly - no more dropouts.
As before iTunes7 never had the problem - it started with iTunes8 - I assume iTunes8 is less able to buffer network dropouts.
I have spent a lot of time on this - but I am very happy to have working music again.....

Airport Express Power Problem

My AP Express will not recieve any power when plugged in all of a sudden. I have switched outlets to no avail and switched out the plug on the AP and still no power....any suggestions?

My express just suffered the same fate. Can't get it to power up. One interesting thing I do notice is that when I am plugging it into wall socket, about half way in, the green light blinks once. I have tried multiple outlets and hard resets w/o success.

Airport Express Two Prong Power Adapter

Can the two prong power module be replaced with an extension cord from an Apple PowerBook AC Power Adapter? I'm thinking that there may be a situation where I would like to relocate the Airport Express away from the AC outlet, and perhaps closer to an ethernet port in a hotel room.
Anyone actually do this? I don't want to fry the Airport Express, and i don't want to lug around an regular AC power extension cord.

Can you tell me if the reverse is true? Would the AC extension cord sold along with the AirPort Express stereo cables package -- in the UK store, at least -- be properly rated to work with the iBook AC power adapter? It looks like the piece of equipment I need, but I can't find anything in the tech specs to reassure me that it would work safely on my power adapter.
Context for my question: I have moved from the US to the UK and want very badly to get an AC power cord with a UK plug to replace the one with the US plug. (I have the snap-on UK plug, but want the cord so I can sit farther from the wall.) It would cost 55 GBP to buy an "extra portable power adapter" (the whole unit, including the snap-on cord I want); by contrast, it would cost only 29 GBP to buy the "AirPort Express Stereo Connection Kit with Monster Cables," which includes "an AirPort Express power extension cord." I might actually use the AirPort Express stereo connectors if I had them, but I have no use for an extra AC adapter (and I hope not to need one!).

Airport Express doesn't connect to internet

Got a Airport Express to replace my old router. When modem is run into old router get internet with no problem. When I plug it into the Airport Express I loss internet but Airport Express gives green light. Go into utility and see internet disconnected but Airport Express is green light. I have reset router and airport express and computer in every possible combination possible.
Any ideas on the problem??

Power off the modem for 30 minutes by pulling the power cord from the back of the modem or from the wall. A longer power down period will not hurt.
If the modem has a battery that is easily accessible, pull the battery as well.
Then reinstall the battery if it was pulled, and start up the modem and let it run for 5 minutes by itself.
Then connect the Ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express and start up the Express to see if the modem will now associate correctly with the device.

How to setup airport express with time machine

just bought airport express so i can extend my wifi range,can anybody help on how to set up! I have time machine 2gb, my house is wired with cat6 cable in all the bed rooms, but now only half my house get wifi,so i want to extend it.I know i have to go into air utility and change some stuff, but sure what stuff?

I assume that this is a new AirPort Express and you have not tried to configure it previously.
Locate the AirPort Express in the general area where you would like to have more wireless signal coverage.
Connect the Ethernet cable to the WAN "O" port on the back of the AirPort Express
Power up the AirPort Express and let it run a few minutes. The amber light will be blinking slowly at this point.
Click the AirPort icon at the top of your Mac's screen and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click directly on AirPort Express.
AirPort Setup will open up automatically on your Mac, take a minute to analyze the network, then announce that the AirPort Express will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the AirPort Express and click Next
Wait a minute while AirPort Setup configures everything for you. When you see the indication of Setup Complete, click Done.
You should be all set.

Using airport express as range extender?

I have a airport express that I use as my primary router.
I also have the direct plug in airport express that I'd like to use as a range extender. I'd like to make this one fully wireless so that I can connect in an another room. However, I'm not sure that's possible. Does anyone know how to go about using this as an extender ?

Temporarily, connect an Ethernet cable from your Mac to the older A1264 AirPort Express
Power up the older Express for a few minutes, then hold in the reset button on the side of the Express for 10 seconds and release. Allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility on your Mac
Click on the Other Wi-Fi Devices button, then click on AirPort Express xxxxxxx
AirPort Setup will open up and take a minute to analyze the network and announce that the A1264 Express will be configured to extend the new AirPort Express network.
Enter a device name that you want to use for the older Express and click Next
AirPort Setup will configure the older Express for you. When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.
Now you can disconnect the Ethernet cable that you used for the setup and move the older Express to a location that is about half way between the new Express and the general area that needs more wireless coverage. Power up the older Express and you should be all set.
