Airport Express Software for Leopard

Hi, the installation disk for my new Airport Express device says, that it wouldn't run due to my OS, which is 10.5/Leopard.
The software lists don't give any clou, where to find a valid version for Leopard.
Does anyone know how to succeed in using the airport?

It sounds like you may have bought an 802.11b/g AirPort Express (AX).
Ignore the software on the disc. Go to /Applications/Utilities and use "AirPort Utility" to configure the AX.

    Hi,
I would like to locate a copy of the utiity software that will work with this model airport and Maverick. I have looked but cannot seem to find it. If you can point me in the right direction I will say thanks in advance.
    d

This worked for me with the last OS update and I assume it will work with this update. Let me know if you have success.
Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist (www.charlessoft.com):
If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    Run Pacifist.
Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.

how can i get the sofwate for airport ´xpress on my computer

The AirPort Utility should already be installed on your MacBook Air as part of the OS X load. However, if for some reason it is missing, you can download a copy directly from Apple Support here.

  • Can't install AirPort Express Software

    Help!
Trying to install AirPort Express Software in my computer. It's an iMac 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4. It was installed with OS X 10.3 with updates through 10.3.9. I recently installed Leopard 10.5 and it is now updated to version 10.5.1. But, when I try to install the software for my new AirPort Express, it says "you cannot install AirPort on this volume. The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported." Huh? AirPort express says it can be used by computers working on OS X 10.4 or later. What might be my problem? THANKS!
    Terry

    Duane,
Thank you for your speedy response!!!!
When I open the AirPort Utility.app, a window opens called AirPort Utility, the twirly/stopwatch icon goes into motion next to the words"Discovering Base Stations." After this happens for some seconds, these words appear...
"AirPort Utility was unable to find any AirPort base stations. Please make sure the AirPort base station you want to set up is plugged in and in range of your computer, and then click rescan to try again."
My express is plugged in five feet from my computer. What to do....?
    Many thanks!
    Terry

  • Since updating to Yosemite my airport express (used for airplay) connects for a short period then drops, the error message "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "Kitchen". The host cannot be reached."  Has anyone else had this?

Since updating to Yosemite my airport express (used for airplay) connects for a short period then drops, the error message "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “Kitchen”. The host cannot be reached."  Has anyone else had this problem

I'm having the same issue.  Haven't found a workaround.  I use a main TimeCapsule as my main router, also have another TimeCapsule that extends the network, three Airport Express and an AppleTV.  For whatever reason, the two AirportExpress that I have in a different rooms cut out.  I only have 600 square foot apartment so it's not that big, the signal should be strong enough.  Airport Utilitiy reports the signal strength to be strong on all devices.
I'm using all new equipment, a new MacPro for my music, new TimeCapsules, new Airport Express, new everything with the latest Yosemite software.  Very frustrating.  My Airplay used to work very nice and now I'm constantly having issues and restarting my network.  I did a fresh install of all my software on my MacPro when I got it in January so it's not as if it's an old machine with old software, everything is new within the last 6 months.
The only workaround I found so far is to unplug the devices and to plug them back in.  Since upgrading to Yosemite, I'm restarting my Airport Express at least twice a week.  Very annoying.

  • Airport Express software update reminder each time at start up

Why do I get Airport Express software update for 5.4.2 reminder each time at start up? I try to update from 5.4.1 by clicking update button, and zoom, the Airport Express screen disappears and no update begins. Your help is appreciated.

I'm not getting an update message, so I can't re-create your view, but this might help.
Open AirPort Utility. On the AirPort Utility menu right next to the Apple icon, select Check for Updates.
    Any help?

  • Loading Airport Express Software onto my Vista Laptop

I have a Acer Aspire 7520 Laptop I have set up the Airport Express which is working fine with my laptop but cannot load the airport express software setup assistant, Vista keeps coming back with an error message so can not use my printer or Airtunes Please help Thanks Den Barrett

Hello Den Barrett. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The earlier version of AirPort 4.2 for Windows is not compatible with Windows Vista, although I have heard reports that folks had some luck running it under WinXP-compatible mode.
I believe the new version 5.x is, however it's not available as a download.
The following is a workaround provided by another Discussions member ...
    1. You will need a program called Less_MSIerables:
    http://blogs.pingpoet.com/overflow/archive/2005/11/16/14995.aspx
    2. Download it to your desktop
Unzip that file (Should end up in your unzipped file folder)
    3. Now, download Airport Extreme (works for Airport Express, too) software:
    http://wsidecar.apple.com/cgi-bin/nph-reg3rdpty2.pl/product=14697&cat=1&platform =osx&method=sa/AirPort521Update.exe
    4. Use a program like winrar or winzip to uncompress that file to a new folder
    5. Next go to the folder in which you saved the unzipped version of Less_Msierables
    6. In a subfolder you will see a file called Lessmsi.
    7. Right-click on this file
    8. Go to properties.
    9. Go to compatability.
    10. Run in XP Mode
    11. Apply
    12. OK
    13. Again right-click on icon.
    14. Run as administrator.
    15. Then click on the ... button to browse to the folder you uncompressed the AirPort521Update (adjust for whatever version they happen to be on)
    16. You will see a list of many files, but the one of the first will be APUtil.exe.
    17. Extract this file to a location that you can easily find.
    18. A file folder will appear with a name like cab#APSetup.cab1
    19. Open that file folder and you will see a file APUtil.exe
    20. Click on that file, and the admin utility will open. You should be able to find your airport device.

  • Is airport express needed for an airprinter

is airport express needed for an airprinter? I'm confused about the concept. Pls help

The concept is that you need a printer that is AirPrint compatible if you want to be able to print from an iPhone or iPad, etc without adding additional software.
Apple updates the AirPrint compatible list from time to time, but you can get a general picture of AirPrint compatible printers here:

  • AIRPORT EXPRESS SOFTWARE WONT INSTALL

    Hello All,
Anyone know a reason why I can't install the Airport Express software on my Mac Book Pro?
When I place the disk in the drive the icon comes up on the desktop. I open the icon and click on the installer to begin the installation process. Once, I get through all the legal mumbo jumbo and to the destination drive screen, the installer tells me that the version of OS X I have isn't supported. Is 10.5.1 compatible with the software? If not, where I can I get a copy of "compatible" software?
    Thanks
    Calvin

calgenjon, Welcome to the discussion area!
Don't worry about that software. Instead use "AirPort Utility" which you will find in the /Applications/Utilities directory.

I just bought a new Motorola modem. Do I need to reconfigure my Airport Express? For some reason we have WiFi even though the amber light is blinking.

Typically, when changing out networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power reset of all of your networking equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Airport Express added for iTunes

I've got my AEB up-and running in a N network.
Now I would like to add an Airport Express wirelessly for Airtunes purposes.
I've read the document "Designing AirPort Networks Using AirPort Utility" and I'm still not sure about the configuration.
How should I configure the Airport Express to connect to the existing N network.
There are several possibilities: remote, relay, WDS, extending ...
Which one to choose and why?
Your help is very much appreciated. Thanks.

    William,
I just added an Airport Express N w/ AirTunes to my existing Network that has an AirPort Extreme N. I initially added it as an extension to my network, but my Internet connection dropped frequently. This was because the Extreme and Express where physically located too close to one another; therefor I switched the Express to only just join my existing network instead of extending it and haven't had any problems sinces.
I think it really depends on the distance your stereo is from your current base station. If your stereo is on the other side of the house extending it would probably be beneficial; however it they are in the next room from one another I would select to only join the existing network instead of extending it.

  • Configuring Airport Express on IMac Leopard

Has anyone had any difficulty getting the built in Airport Express wireless adapter to work with a Linksys router? A relative of mine just bought a Leopard and I tried to configure it to connect wirelessly with his Linksys router, but could not get a connection established. His ISP is Optimum Online, I read on these pages that Airport is not 100 percent compatible with every ISP. I also disabled MAC filtering on the router and made sure Airport is set to 'on' on the Leopard. Can anyone offer any thoughts?

The original "Airport Express - Leopard?!?!" thread was deleted by Apple and the problem was not resolved... Who knows why they didn't want the thread posted on their forums...
Anyway, this is from Google's cached version of the above thread. Worth a try if you have access to Tiger. I quote:
+I have a similar set up (I have an Airport Express that I want to connect to my existing Airport Extreme Base station's network) and spent about 2 hours swearing last night as I tried to sort this out, but after coming back to it tonight I can claim some success, though not without a significant caveat. The good news is that I got my Airport Express (AEXP) connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station's (AEBS) network. The bad news, is that I went back to Tiger to do it.+
+This is a set up I had working previously with WDS, but have recently moved and only am just now getting the AEXP back out to hook up the stereo. I have a TiBook that hasn't been updated to Leopard yet, so after an exasperating night last night, I picked it up and used the old Airport Admin Utility. Note: NOT the current Airport Utility that they introduced with the 802.11n AEBS and is the only option in Leopard. So here's what I did:+
+I just reset my AEXP to the default settings. Then I switched over to it's wireless network (Apple Network fb7... (whateve)+
+I launched the Airport Admin Utility, which detected the AEXP.+
+I clicked on it and the configuration window came up.+
+On the first screen in the bottom half of the window under Airport Network is a Wireless Mode pop-up menu. I chose "Join an existing wireless network".+
+This made another pop-up menu appear where I could choose my existing 802.11n network coming from my AEBS.+
+I believe I was prompted for the network password, so I put that in.+
+Then i made sure that my Airtunes was configured.+
    +Updated (restarted) the AEXP+
+When nothing happened I remembered that I had to go back and rejoin my original existing wireless network. So I did that and momentarily both my AEBS and my AEXP popped up in the Airport Utility.+
+Both are there with green lights, internet connection is solid, and AirTunes is working in my living room.+
+So I've joined the AEXP to my existing AEBS's wireless network - which is what I wanted to do in the first place. Honestly I'm still unclear on the difference between "join an existing wireless network" and participating in a WDS network. I thought that WDS was for extending the range of a wireless network (this is how I had previously set up my AEBS and my AEXP). Now I would rather just have the faster 802.11n speed of the AEBS network and merely have the AEXP connected so that I can use AirTunes, but not ever actually connecting to the network through the slower 802.11g speed of the AEXP. So hopefully that's what joining an existing wireless network has done.+
+Either way, my wireless network is functioning, and so is AirTunes. So, for now, I'm happy.+
+Good luck with your respective set ups. Hopefully a copy of Airport Admin Utility is on the install disk for the AEXP. I was able to run it in Leopard, though when I did the configuring it was on the Tiger machine.+

  • Airport Express working for 15 mins -  Tops!

    FACTS:
    I have a G5, Dual 1.8, running 10.4.7.
I have Airport Extreme Card and Airport Express (running most current firmware), purchased 1 year ago.
Connecting using Toshiba Cable Modem PCX2200 thorugh Time Warner Cable in New York City.
According to iStumbler, I have 23 possible networks in my range.
Currently, I have set my setting to factory default to "try" and maintain connection.
    PROBLEM:
Everytime I try to personalize my settings, AE craps out (starts flasing yellow) anywhere from 10 - 15 mins. I've hard reset and factory defaulted reset at least 5 times in the past two weeks. I "think" this all started after I upgraded to 10.4.7.
I've read mult. posts about people being able to overcome their "issues" by setting interference robustness and changing their channels. According to iStumbler, everyone else in my range is running channel 11, 2, 8 or 6, so I have tried setting 4, 10 and automatic... but nothing seems to be solving WHY my AE continually starts flashing yellow.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than what is suggested in the Aiport/AE help pages?

    RJ -
Do you have the most recent firmware installed on your AE?
    per my original post....
    FACTS:
    I have a G5, Dual 1.8, running 10.4.7.
I have Airport Extreme Card and Airport Express (running most current firmware)...
I updated with the upgrade to 10.4.7 and I went out searching and reinstalled firmware 2 weeks ago once this problem initially began....
Lenn - Yes, I have weekly software updates scheduled....
It seems as though if I wait a while, my connection remains stable. FOr the past 1.5 hours, I have been watching TV and my indicator light has remained stable and green until I came on to check my mail and update my website. It's, again, not working. I'm posting this by connecting to someone else's wireless connection.
Does anyone else have an idea?
