Airport Express that will not connect to broadband

We recently moved to China. I have tried everything I know and received some help from Apple telephone service and a local source but the Express will not work correctly with the incoming signal. I can hook my Powerbook G4 up to the incoming signal via ppoe with a password and I got the Express to work through a PC in the room acting as a server and using a hub, sort of. With the server I could get on Yahoo but nothing else will/would load. I tried the DNS server number but this did not help with the Express loading pages while using the PC server and hub. I had tried hard reset onthe Express a few times to no avail, though this was needed for it to work at all. I get a good signal from the Express and I get the green lock light but I do not get a true connection to the web.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as we have two macs and really need the wireless feed for the work we are doing at Jishou University.

I'll answer your question here - but if you want to continue this discussion please start a brand new discussion topic of your own. Your problem has very little in common with that of John Amato - just because the symptoms are "it doesn't work!" doesn't mean the problem is the same.
Yes, a Linksys wireless router will work perfectly with Macs equipped with an Airport card.
Since you installed an Airport card into your eMac - does your eMac now have an Airport menu item (the fan shaped icon near the right side of the MacOS menu bar)? If so, click on the Airport menu - and a list of in-range wireless networks will appear. Click on the name of your Linksys router's wireless network to connect to it. If your Linksys router is protected with a wireless security protocol and password, your Mac will now prompt you to enter the password - and to help you any further beyond this point I will need to have you tell us what protocol (WEP or WPA) you are using.
If your eMac:
- doesn't have an Airport card menu, then tell us exactly what model of eMac you are using
- doesn't show your Linksys router's name when you click on the Airport menu, recheck the Airport card installation inside your eMac and make sure you plugged the antenna cable connector into its socket on the Airport card AND you fully inserted that connector (which takes a fair bit of force).

  • Airport Express that will not reset, nor can it be controlled by s/w

I have tried to switch an older (white) airport with a new Airport Express. At first it did work, then nothing. Software either the appls/util/airport set-up or configure utilities can't connect or find the Airport Express. It will show up as a gray set of bars but doesn't name my network. The only way to configure this requires going to the utilities which of course cannot find the signal. I'm going crazy I want to network iTunes and my printers with my airport equiped imac, iBook, PowerBook G4, and the new MacBook Pro. I'm spending hours going over this, nothing changes but my level of frustration.
My high speed line is perfect and the old Airport works wonderfully, but won't do the other tasks nor is it portable for use on the road.
Is this a dead Airport Express or can I somehow make it work well. The light will be a steady yellow and show up 4 gray bars on my menu bar. Sometimes it blinks yellow. I haven't seen green since the first and only successful use, for one Internet session. The reset button does nothing.
I have paid Apple a fortune over the years, 27 computers, all the Apple software for all my machines and vidoe use. This is the first total failure. I'm very upset. Help Please
Thanks, Steve otherinfo>Airport Express   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   used with an iMac, PowerBook, iBooks, and soon to be four MacBook pros, I need it badly for travel

    Hi Steven,
Have you tried a Hard Reset?

Also, is the computers access this Airport Express have the latest Airport Software?

After you get your Airport Express set up using Airport Setup Assistant make sure the Airport Express has the latest Firmware.

I understand your frustration. Apple makes great products that don't fail to often, it makes it even more difficult to deal with.
    I sure hope this helps..

  • Itunes 10.6.1.7 (on windows 7 64 bit) recognizes airport express, but will not connect.

I've attempted disabling all firewalls (both PC and anti-virus), disabling ipv6, rebooting the airport unit itself, but no luck. I'm not prompted with an error, however, as itunes is attempting to connect the airplay icon turns blue, and when it doesn't connect the icon turns gray again. On a sidenote, my old macbook connects without issue. Any ideas?

Thx Hackintosh. All software was up to date as of this morning, but I think the issue stemmed from the IP switching in my building. I finanlly stripped the express/utility completely off the box and reinstalled from scratch after doing a factory reset of the airport unit itself... and finally, eureka. Of course, doing this required resetting my apple machines to the updated airport address. I will say that if anyone wants to run both apple and PC machines on the same airport, set up the PC first and then link the apple machine(s) second. Way easier than the other way around.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

  • Airport Express is recognized in AirPort Utility but will not connect.

I just bought a brand new Airport Extreme from Best Buy yesterday and have it set up perfectly. However, now my Airport Express (that I use to stream music to my stereo via Airtunes) will not connect. I have reset the Airport Express many times and it still won't connect. Here is what is crazy... the Airport Express is recoginized within the AirPort Utility, however when I click 'Continue' I get this message:
"Warning: Are you sure you want to switch wireless networks? Setting up this Apple wireless device requires switching networks. Switching networks may interupt your connection to the Internet"
I click 'OK' and I get this message "Connecting To Network' Connecting to network 'Apple Network 08ded7'. Please wait..."
Than the message disappears and I stay on the same screen I started from (I don't advance to the next setup screen... repeat and it does the same thing.
I've disabled my firewalls and still no luck. Also, the Airport Express shows an Orange light both on the device and the AirPort Utility.
Anyone know what the deal may be?
    Thanks in advance!!

Not sure why, but I installed the Airport Utility software on a differnt PC and was able to get the Airport Express configured and working just fine now. Hmmmmm...
So nice to have my music playing again - love Airtunes!

  • We have an old titanium PowerBook that will not connect to our AirPort Extreme network. What gives.

We have an old titanium PowerBook that will easily connect to any WiFi cafe or hotel network, but will not connect to our AirPort Extreme network. What gives.
When the Apple Tec. installed our network for our 3 iMAXs, he couldn't it to connect either. Of course our two iPads have no trouble connecting.
We are also having trouble getting it to upgrade from OS 10.5.8 to 10.6, even though I have a Snow Leopard up date family pack.

What is your Wireless Security setting on the network?  Since you are running Leopard, I may not have the desired answer, but some of the Airport-equipped laptops, like the TiBooks, are said not to support all of the settings.  I have an AE network which supports b and g, with "WPA2 Personal" settings and the TiBooks connect with that one OK with 811.b Airport.
Oh, and no way to upgrade beyond 10.5.8 Leopard for PPC machines like the Titanium G4 Powerbooks, as 10.6 and above require Intel processors.
EDIT: I didn't notice this, but the TiBooks may be connecting with WPA encryption on my network, as I have the following display on my settings:

  • I have an old Airport Express that won't connect/set up with Yosemite. Any help appreciated

Hi, as the title suggests I have an old Airport Express that I have always used wirelessly to connect to my hifi but now that I have upgraded to Yosemite it won't connect via Airport Utility  6.3.4 and Yosemite won't let me use Airport Utility 5.6  Seems I'm stuck between a rock and hard place! Ethernet is no use as the hifi is in another room. Yosemite is running on an iMac and is connected wirelessly to Virgin Broadband. Thanks, Alex.

If the AirPort Express is very old, such as the original 802.11b/g - only models A1084 or A1088 you will need a commensurately older version of both AirPort Utility and OS X to configure it. Those models were discontinued about seven years ago and support for them is gone. Ethernet won't make a difference anyway.
You may find instructions or links to web sites with instructions to modify OS X in an effort to circumvent that restriction. I cannot emphasize enough just how bad an idea that would be.

  • Green light on Airport Extreme but will not connect to internet

I have tried restarting computer and Airport Extreme but it will not connect to internet.  Unit has been working great up until now.  I have made no changes in system.
This Airport/time machine is 2009 version.

The Cisco DPC 3010 is a cable modem, so you will need to let the modem completely reset before you connect it to the AirPort Extreme.
It may be necessary to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme and reconfigure it, but we will try a shortcut first to see if that can be avoided.
Power off the entire network.....all devices....modem, AirPort, computers, mobile devices, etc in any order that you want.
Be sure to disconnect the power cable on the modem, either on the back of the device or pull the power cord from the wall AC jack
Leave everything powered off for at least 30 minutes.  Longer is better, as it sometimes takes the equipment back at the ISP longer to completely reset and issue a new fresh IP address to the modem.
After the wait period, power up the modem first, and let it run for at least 5 minutes by itself. If your modem documentation states that the modem should be powered up for 15 minutes, then go with 15.
Power up the AirPort Extreme next, and let it run a few minutes
Then power up other devices one at a time about a minute apart
When the entire network is back up, check the network.
It this does not work, you will have to start over again as above, except this time you will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme.
To do that, power off the AirPort Exterme for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the back of the Extreme.....and keep holding it in for an additional 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the Extreme
Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Power off the AirPort now, and start it back up in the proper sequence
If things still don't work, then you likely have a defective AirPort Extreme that will need to be replaced.

  • New Thinkpad W530 order direct from Lenovo with integrated mobile will not connect to broadband

I purchased a W530 with integrated mobile and have been trying to connect with various networks to no avail. I have a Type 2436-CTO S/N xxxxxxx 13/08 and Windows 8 came installed when I received. I have upgraded BIOS and everything that Lenovo solutions says I need to update.
The MEID is A1xxxxxxxxxxx. It came with an integrated Sierra Wireless MC8355-Gobi 3000 modem. I have downloaded an updated driver for Windows 8 for the MC8355. I have spoken with almost every Lenovo technical person as well as taken the computer to various network stores and so far no one can figure out why it won't connect to Verizon.
Verizon says I'm active and the computer error message says I am not active. Every tech has tried to look at the system by logging into my computer and no one can figure it out. The device manager says the MC8355 is working. Interesting when it was shipped to me it also had an AT&T sim card installed. After I had signed up with AT&T and one mo of paying for service they determined it would not work on their network. Finally someone told me to take the AT&T sim card out and it still will not connect.
Verizon tells me I do not need a sim card as I have the MC8355 but they can't tell me why I can't connect. Now I've paid for Verizon service for one month and still cannot connect. Everything else works fine with the W530. I've owned ThinkPads exclusively since the first one ever came out. I've never not been able to connect to mobile broadband with any others. I also went through about two weeks of trying to connect with Lenovo Mobile Access and that did not work because I'm running Windows 8. Finally a nice gentleman called me from LMA to tell me it will not work after all the time of connecting and being on the road. I could go back to an old ThinkPad to travel with but I'm determined to get my new one to connect. Any more advice or anything anyone can tell me try?

  • Airport Express (latest version) not connectable after waking Macbook

Hey Guys, my Airport Express (latest version) is not connectable via airplay, when I want to connect after I shut down my Mac for a while. Since now I always solved the problem with a reboot of the airport. Is there another opportunity to avoid this problem?

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
In the windows on the left side: Select login for Keychains and "All Items" for Category.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
    System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > Wi-Fi tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • My new AirPort Express router will not stop blinking

I just bought a new AirPort Express.  With the help of Time Warner, he gave me a new Modem and hooked everything together which included  connecting router, modem to my husband's Windows PC.  Now, the PC works great.  My Apple IMac and Apple IPad work great and get the Wi-Fi very nicely.  However, the AirPort Express unit continues to blink amber/orange and I don't think that is right.  Should I do something or just leave it alone since everything is working great and I don't want to mess around the wires and cause things to  stop working.  Any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hello Peggy101
Check out the article below for more information about amber blinking lights on an Airport base station. When you use Airport Utility and click on the amber light it will list out what things that need to be corrected. You may not need to correct anything and can ignore certain errors.
