AirPort Express/Time Capsule WDS Network - will this work?

Have recently bought a Time Capsule but realised that it won't do what I want with my Linksys ADSL wireless router. I think I understand how to make it work with an AirPort Express, but would appreciate it if someone could confirm my ideas before I buy even more hardware!
My situation is that my ADSL line comes in to the house on the ground floor. There's no extension phone sockets and I don't want or need them. My home office is on the first floor.
What I want is to have my ADSL modem and a wireless device on the ground floor, the Time Capsule in the home office with mac and XBOX making wired connections to it, and a USB printer also connected.
If I get a DSL modem and then connect an AirPort Express to that, can I then set up WDS so that the Time Capsule becomes an extension of the WLAN and I can connect the devices to the Time Capsule via wires? Or do I need an AirPort Extreme to do this instead of Express? Or is it just plain not going to work?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I am using a Time Capsule with an 802.11g Airport Express with a WDS network. In my case the Time Capsule is the main device and the Airport Express is the remote device, but I'd think it would work the other way. Just make sure you're using "Airport Utility", not "Airport Admin Utility" to configure it.
One other thing: I found it easiest to reset both devices to factory default settings and use the Airport Utility wizard to set up the WDS network on both devices. Good luck!

  • Airport, Airport Express, iPhone & PS3 wireless network will this work?

Hi I need help with the above,
I've got an iMac 15" G4 800Mhz, it is fitted with a standard airport card, the G4 is connected to the internet via ethernet to a Zyxel P-600 Series ADSL modem. I have also been streaming itunes (using airtunes) to a seperate hi-fi amp in another room using an Airport Express Base Station, THIS ALL WORKS.
I have since bought an iPhone and a Playstaion3 (PS3) and want this all to work together but does not. It would seem that the Airport Express Base Station is the dominant part of this network and I want to change this priority. No matter how far I delve I cannot find the answer. Basically I want the following setup:
iMac G4 (with Airport Card) that is connected to the internet via ethernet to be the 'main Base Station' (not the Airport Express as is currently), I then want to continue streaming Airtunes to the Airport Express and also use this device as a booster for the wireless network. The reason for the new wireless setup is to enable the iPhone to connect to the Internet (the iphone currently sees the network but cannot connect to the internet because the Airport Express is NOT connected to the ADSL Modem), I also want the PS3 to connect to this network.
Am I asking too much of the Airport Card (The one in the G4)? or should I simply buy the new Airport Extreme Base Station and start again?
Any help would really be appreciated, Paul

sorry if i sound stupid but does that mean that if i'm using the AX to stream music (using Airtunes) I cannot simultaneously use it as a wi-fi extender?
    That situation is possible.
If so can I set up the AX to just stream music and then use an Airport Extreme Base Station hard wired to the ADSL Modem and the iMAc and connect the iPhone and PS3 to the internet via the AEBS wi-fi network. Essentially creating one wi-fi network for iPhone/ PS3 wireless connection and a seperate Airtunes network for wireless music streaming, or am I just dreaming, cheers for your help.
Sure you can do that. But then you will have to decide if you want to stream music OR you want to be on the internet. Your computers can't connect to both at the same time.
You probably want to do the above, but configure your AX to join the wireless network provided by the AEBS. Then you will only have a single wireless network and you can stream music, print, and surf the internet all at the same time.

  • Airport Express, Time Capsule, Extended Network

I have cable broadband entering the house downstairs and connects to Airport Express to broadcast wirelessly around the house.
I work upstairs on my MBP and can connect to wi-fi ok.
I also have Time Capsule upstairs without wired connection to internet, it creates a separate network so that I would have to connect to it for automatic back ups (which obviously disconnects me from wi-fi internet).
What I would like to do is have Time Capsule join Airport Express wi-fi network so that I am connected wirelessly to internet and at the same time for Time Capsule to do its automtaic back ups.
Is this possible and could somebody give me a step by step guide how to do it.

You will need to know the exact type of wireless security setting that the AirPort Express is now using in order to configure the Time Capsule to "join" that wireless network. To do this....
Connect your Mac to the AirPort Express wireless network
Open Macintosh HD > Applications> Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab located just under the row of icons
Jot down the exact setting that you see for Wireless Network Name and Wireless Security
    Close AirPort Utility
Now, connect your Mac to the Time Capsule wireless network as if you were going to back up
Open AirPort Utility and Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab under the row of icons
Hold down the option key on your Mac while you click on the Wireless Mode selection box and select "Join a wireless network"
Wireless Network Name = Same name as your AirPort Express wireless network
Wireless Security = Exact same setting that you wrote down for the AirPort Express network
Wireless Password = Same password as the AirPort Express network
    Confirm Password
Click Update and close AirPort Utility as soon as you see the message that the settings have been stored
Wait 25-30 seconds for the Time Capsule to restart to a green light
Now, log back on to your AirPort Express wireless network
Open AirPort Utility again as a check and you should see both the AirPort Express and the Time Capsule, which indicates that the Time Capsule is now on the same wireless network as the AirPort Express
When you have confirmed this, you will need to reset Time Machine to tell it how to find your Time Capsule for backups as follows:
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Time Machine
    Click Select Disk
Click your Time Capsule disk to highlight it
    Click Use for Backup
    Click Connect (if prompted)
Backups will resume in a few moments but they are going to take longer since the wireless is running at "g" wireless levels
    Please post on your results

  • Given wireless range of Time Capsule is 150', will this work? Put DSL modem on phone line in garage, connect ethernet to small office bldg (125') and connect separate ethernet to main house (200'). Time capsule on each end (or Airport Express)? Thx

Given Time Capsule wireless range is 150', will this solution work? In detached garage, connect DSL modem to phone line, then connect ethernet cable to DSL modem and run 125' to small office bldg. Connect separate ethernet cable to DSL modem and run 200' to main house. Put time capsule or Airport Express in each bldg resulting in separate wireless networks in each? Thanks.

This will work very well. You can run a CAT5e (or CAT6) Ethernet cable up to 330 feet...or 100 meters...with virtually no signal loss.
CAT6 costs a bit more, but will handle next generation Ethernet speeds, so if you have a choice, suggest that you opt for CAT6 cabling.

  • Configuring BT HomeHub 4 on home network with AirPort Express & Time Capsule

I have changed my broadband provider from Sky to BT in the UK and hence from a Sky router to a BT HomeHub 4 router but can't get the new router to work as before with my home network and an extended wireless network running off an AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule.  I had the Sky router with the wireless network off acting as the DNS server and the AE and TC set to connect using DHCP, Create a Wireless Network and the Router Mode set to Off (ie Bridge mode).
I am not an expert but I think the issue could be due to the different BT hub IP settings (Hub IP Gateway Address and DHCP Network Range).  From discussion forums I am also not clear whether it is better to use DHCP, Static or PPPoE settings for the AE and TC.
Has anyone managed to configure a BT HomeHub with a home network and an AE/TC for running the wireless network?

There is really very little difference in the setup between the sky hub and the BThub.
BUT the apple routers do not take kindly to sudden changes of management.
Reset both to factory and start over.
The TC or AE plugged into the BThub will still be in bridge mode with create a wireless network.. and the Extreme working in extend wireless mode.. unless you have them tied together with ethernet. (or visa versa depending on your layout.. AE in bridge and TC extending.. same difference).
You can just leave the BT hub wireless on.. or turn it off as you like. Setup can be a bit tricky as the airport utility seems to insist on the router plugged into the Hub taking over as main router.. this is wrong.. but it is hard to get it to do what you want.. so just finish the setup in the airport utility then manually edit the setup to do what you want.
    Or do it fully manually.
I gave a full set of instructions here.
Linking AirPort Extreme to my bt home hub
    Note:
You have express in the title and extreme in the text.. but it is same thing from setup point of view.

  • Airport express / Time capsule wi-fi & network speed measurements

I am trying to figure out the best way to connect up my LAN, how to get the best out of the gigabit ethernet devices on it, as well as 5GHz wifi.  I have a mac mini as a media server and I want to maximise the speed, as well as improve time capsule access.
Here are the results doing a real world file transfer from a macbook pro to a MacMini external FW800 drive:
    Set-up
    Peak speed MB/s
    1) Macbook pro --> 1000Base-T --> Switch --> 1000Base-T --> MacMini  (Time capsule connected to switch as router)
    72.1
    2) Macbook pro --> 1000Base-T --> Time Capsule --> 1000Base-T --> MacMini
    56.2
    3) Macbook pro --> 802.11n 5GHz --> Time Capsule --> 1000Base-T --> MacMini
    19.7
    4) Macbook pro --> 802.11n 2.4GHz --> Time Capsule --> 1000Base-T --> MacMini
    14.8
    5) Macbook pro -->  802.11n 5GHz --> Airport Express --> 100Base-T --> Time Capsule --> 1000Base-T --> MacMini
    11.7
    6) Macbook pro --> 100Base-T --> Time Capsule --> 1000Base-T --> MacMini
    11.7
    7) Macbook pro -->  802.11n 5GHz --> Airport Express --> 100Base-T --> MacMini
    11.7
    8) Macbook pro -->  802.11n 2.4GHz --> Airport Express --> 100Base-T --> Time Capsule --> 1000Base-T --> MacMini
    10.6
    9) Macbook pro -->  802.11n 2.4GHz --> Airport Express --> 100Base-T --> MacMini
    7.9
    10) Macbook pro -->  802.11n 5GHz --> Airport Express --> 802.11n 5GHz --> Time Capsule --> 1000Base-T --> MacMini
    6.6
    Findings:
    - Using a Netgear Gigabit ethernet switch and everythig wired off that resuts in the fastest connection
    - The Time Capsule has the fastest wifi (both 2.4GHz and 5Ghz) at 19.7MB/s and 14.8MB/s
    - Maximum throughput on the Airport Express is 11.7MB/s, throttled by the slow 100Base-T connection
    - Extending the wireless network using an airport express results in the slowest connection of all, even using 5GHz (6.6MB/s)
I was suprised at how poor the Airport Express wi-fi performance was compared to the time capsule, even with the 100Base-T bottleneck.
I don't understand why 8) is faster than 9) - perhaps with the airport express in bridge mode there is less overhead than when it is working as a router too.
Tests were done with devices all close.  Obviously distance and interference would drop the wi-fi speeds.  With my internet running at a maxiumum of about 2.6MB/s I would not notice any difference in day to day internet usage.

    The following illustrates the problem:
Depending on the Extreme's firmware version, you may find an option to configure the Extreme to not "allow this network to be extended". That will limit the Express's available connection options to the Time Capsule.
Try that. If you are unable to find that checkbox in AirPort Utility then it's not an option. Apple removed it in a recent firmware update (it's always on by default). You might find it by reverting to an earlier firmware release, but I don't necessarily recommend that.

  • Apple Tv - Airport Express - Time Capsule,  Network Issue

    Hi,
I don't know if I'm on the right thread but I don't know in which one to post my question.
I have the following configuration in my home:
    Floor 1 :
    - ISP connection, connected to Airport Extreme.
Airport Extreme has the Network name : Floor 1 Network
    Floor 2 :
    - Airport Express connected via ethernet to the Airport Extreme from Floor 1.
    - Time Capsule extending the Airport Express.
Airport Express and Time Capsule are on another Network name : Floor 2 Network.
All is working perfectly. (Clients wirelessly connected are MacBooks, iPhones, iPads, iPods, Apple TVs)
    Here is my problem.
I have an Apple Tv on Floor 2
The Time Capsule is located not far from the Apple TV (line of sight, few meters)
The Time Capsule hold my movies
Sometime I have problem to sync the ATV (very very slow). I already restart ATV, and TC. But sometimes, cannot get better a thruput
I would guess that the Apple TV would sometime connect to the AE (which is further than the TC), and then create this problem.
I would like to make sure that the Apple TV connect wirelessly to the TC and not the AE.
How could I do this, knowing that TC is extending the AE wireless network, I cannot select from the AppleTv on which wireless node to connect.
Thanks a lot for the support.

    fleyne wrote:
Yes. Actually, when the thruput is not good, I check first that my book is properly connected to TC and not the AE. This by checking the BSSID.
How could I do this on the ATV ? Or How could I make sure that the ATV is wirelessly connected to the TC?
It probably won't show you everything you'd like to know, but you can learn something about the ATV connection with AirPort Utility. Enter "manual setup" mode, select the menu option Base Station -> Logs and Statistics, then select the "Wireless Clients" tab. That should show you the signal strength and noise for each client.
I would like to avoid to run ethernet cable between the TC and the ATV.
Then you might benefit from a powerline adapter as suggested by the post from "Jolly Giant".

  • Airport Express + Time Capsule and wireless access to internet

I have a wireless internet provider. It's an open access without encryption.
I would like to have the airport express connect wirelessly to the internet then connect the airport express by ethernet wire to the WAN port in the time capsule and then have a local encrypted network from the time capsule in order to access with my mac book wirelessly to the time capsule.
I tried all ways of configuring it but none worked.
Do you know if it is possible and what should I configure ?
If somebody can help me... I am getting crazy with that...

This will not work. The Ethernet port on the AirPort Express (AX) is active only when the AX uses WDS to wirelessly join a network. Unfortunately this requires you to be using a compatible base station to create the wireless network AND you must configure the base station and AX to connect using WDS.

  • Cannot print or scan with USB printer over wifi from airport express / time capsule wifi

    Hi everybody,
I have recently set up time capsule connected to the router from the telephone company but created a new wifi network for the time machine to better work. Now I have bought an airport express to be able to use my USB printer over the WIFI network. I have to laptops, the printing works fine over the mac book air but not over the macbook pro. On top of that I cannot scan with either of the devices.
I have scanned most of the information out there but this issue seems not to be addressed properly anywhere. Advices given do always repeat itself but no solution worked for me.
Now I have plugged the usb from the printer directly back into mac book pro and the problem seems to persist here too. The message I receive everywhere is this one:
The software for the printer was installed incorrectly.
Would you like it to be repaired?
When I hit the Repair button a notice says 'repairing permissions' but nothing really happens. In the end nothing has been printed.
Resetting the printing systems has not really changed anything either. The problems persist.
This is the screen I get when the printer is directly plugged in through USB:
Result: printer recognised and installed, I cannot print (The software for the printer was installed incorrectly), but I can scan (probably because of the hint ('multifunction')
When I try to install the printer through the network connection (wifi network over time capsule and airport express) I get this image:
Result: printer recognised over bonjour but without multifunction (in other words without scanning), I cannot scan nor print (The software for the printer was installed incorrectly)
As I already mentioned any solution I found online would not work. Now the qustions are:
    1) why can't I print? The drivers seem to be there but somehow broken, and I don't know how to repair it
    2) why can't I scan over wifi? It sould possible that any function that can be performed over cable should also be able to performable over air, right?
I would very much appreciate any kind of help.
    Thank you in advance,
    Cris

    What's up doc?
HP has not provided "network" drivers to allow advanced features when the the All-in-One is connected to the USB port on the Time Capsule.
Therefore, only the printing function is supported when the All-in-One is connected to the Time Capsule's USB port.
If you need advanced features like fax, copy, scan, maintenance etc., you will need to connect over the WiFI network, or connect the All-in-One directly to your computer.

  • Airport Express/Time Capsule Wi-Fi Troubles

    Hi everybody,
I'm having some troubles setting up my new AirPort environment (all the products are 1-2 generation, I call it "new" because I had to modify the position of all the modems and I can't get them to work).
I have a Time Capsule connected to my ADSL modem. When I'm next to it the download speed is 1MB (megabyte) and the upload is 500KB (kilobytes). I have a smaller "house" on the other side of the garden that we use as entertainment space, it has just two rooms, a bathroom and a big living room.
I can connect to the Time Capsule (and then to the Internet) at 800KB when I'm in the bathroom, but when I move away from it, towards the living room, the signal drops. I get a "connection timeout" error if i try to connect, and if I keep moving the Wi-Fi doesn't connect at all.
I controlled if there was some kind of interference, but the walls are thin. So I took my AirPort Express in here, I attached it in the bathroom, and if I stay there (not in the living room) the signal is ok and I can configure the Express to extend my Time Capsule network.
It doesn't work. I followed the Utility AirPort step-by-step and it said that everything was ok and the Express light turned green, it worked decently (~500KB) and it spread out all over the living room, but when I got up the next morning  to check if everything was fine, even if I saw the green light of the Express it was like it didn't work at all.
    Carlo
    P.s.
Right now Utility Airport is working this way (the Express doesn't extend the signal), but when I got it working the AirPort Express was connected directly to the Time Capsule

  • Airport Extreme + Time Capsule Roaming Network

Ok, I'm completely lost here and haven't found any solutions specific to my situation. I currently have two ethernet jacks in my condo, both have fiber optic internet connection which provide access when connected to a computer and no router. I'm assuming there is a router somewhere in the building but alas it's not in my unit.
My home office is in the den where I have one ethernet jack. Connected to the jack is my airport extreme (dual band, 7.5.1 software). The second jack is located in the living room where I have my Time Capsule connected. I have it set this way because the wireless signal from the den does not extend well into the living room.
Basically I have two jacks, a TC and an AE and I'd like to create a roaming network. Both of them are set to bridge mode with the same SSID, WPA2 security, same password, etc. When I open airport utility on my main computer I can see both the AE and TC which is good because I have files I need to access for work on the TC. The problem I have is some of the wireless devices will not get an internet connection but instead get the self assigned IP address. My iPhone and iPad work all the time as well as the xbox and PS3 that are hardwired into the TC. Macbook laptop only connects about 1 out of every 4 times and other guests with iPhones have been getting the self assigned IP too. It's confusing because sometimes the devices connect flawlessly and sometimes they don't.
Sorry for the long-winded post but this situation has been very irritating for a couple months so I thought I'd finally seek answers here. I guess my basic question is what is the proper setup for an AE and a TC roaming network using two different ethernet jacks with no modem in my unit?

Welcome to the discussion area, Junkcanoe!
I don't have a setup like yours, but might be able to offer some assistance.
Basically I have two jacks, a TC and an AE and I'd like to create a roaming network. Both of them are set to bridge mode with the same SSID, WPA2 security, same password, etc.
This would be the normal way to set up a roaming network, but the wild card here is that we don't know anything about how the main router that supplies the ethernet connections (valid IP addresses) to the condos might be configured.
For example, most apartments, hotels, etc that provide ethernet jacks usually limit the number of devices that can connect to each jack. Hotels tend to limit this to one or two devices. I counted six devices that you say will work properly plus a few more. Since you have two separate ethernet jacks, you may be looking at a situation where each jack is allocated a total of 4 devices, or valid IP addresses.
The bottom line here is that we won't be able to make much progress until we know more how the main router there has been configured. Is it possible for you to ask the complex manager (who will probably need to ask the IT guy) how many devices are allowed to connect per ethernet jack? Another way to ask the same question is how may valid IP addresses will each ethernet jack allow?
If you can, could I ask you to perform an experiment? Rather than have both the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule each connect to a separate ethernet jack, can you temporarily move one device near the other and connect them together using an ethernet cable? (Or, use a long ethernet cable if you don't want to move either device) LAN <-> port on one to LAN <-> port on the other. In other words, you'll only be using one of the ethernet ports in the condo for this experiment.
Any difference in performance or number of devices allowed to connect?

  • Airport Express & Time Capsule -- Can I stream to Itunes?

    Hi,
I have a 1 TB time capsule that has my itunes library on it, and an older b/g airport express. The time capsule and airport express (AX) are in different rooms, and I'd like to be able to use Airtunes.
I set the AX up to "extend" the network created on the Time Capsule, and Airtunes is enabled on the AX. I get the drop down menu in Itunes, but when I select it, I get an error message saying that there are no speakers connected to Airtunes. This is not the case.
If anyone has any suggestions or similar issues, I'd love to hear them.
    Thanks!

Ok, let's double-check the settings to have the AX join the TC's wireless network for iTunes streaming.
Temporarily connect the AX directly to one of the LAN ports of the TC using an Ethernet cable, and then, using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, check the following settings:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing TC's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)
Verify that you can now "see" the AX in iTunes. Once verified, remove the AX from the TC and place it at the desired location.

  • Two Airport Expresses   Time Capsule Help

    Hi,
I am at my wits end in regards to my wireless network. Here is my configuration:
I have an ATT Uverse 2 Wire 3800HGV-B internet wireless router (wireless turnedd off), 2 Airport Expresses (1st generation), an Airport Time Capsule (4th Generation), a new iMac running 10.8.4, a Mac Mini running 10.7.5, iPhone 5's, iPhone 4, iPad 2nd gen, IPad 3rd gen.  The U Verse acts as the router and the TC is set to bridge mode. The TC is set to transmit 802.11n 2.4ghz & 5ghz, both AE's are set to 802.11n 2.4 ghz only. The TC and both AE's have same wireless network name for the 2.4ghz network and braodcast on different channels. I currently have each device set to "create a wireless network".  Two story home with R Foil construction seems to inhibit the Wi Fi signal.  In my backyard I get my neighbors Wi Fi and not my own. How do I set up the airport express devices? Extend or Create? Each airport express currently is plugged into a Cat5e ethernet jack which connects to a switch which in turn connects to the Uverse Router. the TC is connected to the cat5 jack which connects to the Uverse Router in the basement, I am confused about extending, creating, maybe setting up roaming? Should the Airport Express Devices be connected to my ethernet network?? Please help!

    Leave the TC alone.
Close AirPort Utility if it is open.
Turn off one of the AirPort Express devices and work with just one for now. With the Express powered on, hold in the reset button on the device for 7-8 seconds and release. Then allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Connect the Express to the Ethernet wiring
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the 10.8.4 Mac, and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click directly on AirPort Express.
AirPort Setup will open up automatically, take a minute to analyze the connection and then tell you that the Express will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network.
Enter a device name that you want to use.....AE1, or example....and click Next.
AirPort Setup will now tell you that the Express is being set up to extend using Ethernet.
When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.  That's it.
Check with a laptop in the general area near the Express to confirm that it is working.
Then, configure the other AirPort Express the same way, starting with a Hard Reset, and using a different device name.....AE2, for example..... to keep things straight.

  • Best use of Airport Express+Time Capsule together?

I've used the Express for several years and really enjoy using the ouput to play my iTunes wirelessly thru my stereo speakers. Then we moved, but my wife moved ahead of me and took the Express. I then bought a Time Capsule which doesn't have audio outs. I noticed that when I set it up it used the same name for the wireless network as my old Express.  Now I've moved and joined my wife, and for the 1st time have both devices together. What is the most effective  way to configue them? How do I maintain use of the Express for the iTunes wireless playing? Do I need to rename the network?

If the primary goal for the AirPort Express for iTunes streaming, then the best configuration option would be to configure the Express to join the wireless network provided by the TC.
AirPort Express Base Station (AX) - iTunes Setup
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup > AirPort > Wireless
Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    Network Name: <existing TC's wireless network>
Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
AirPort Utility > Select the AX > Manual Setup >Music
    Enable AirTunes (checked)
iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    Verify Password: (optional)

  • HT3728 how do I know what my airport express time capsule needs to be replaced?

I believe I have router problems.  I have installed a new cable modem and I have good bandwidth from comcast but my base station, time capsule, router seems to now be able to handle the wi-fi in the house. I have the router serial number but I don't know the abilityof this instrument.

That is the oldest of the TC.. it is more than capable of 24mbps but wireless may become poorer as the power supply declines.. it will eventually stop working.. it is well over 4years old most likely unless you bought refurbished.. reliable operation is about 3years.. (plus 3days to be exact) at which point it can die any second.
You have had a good run.. replace it.
Poor signal on the Express.. which I note you didn't mention in your first post.. should be reset and located nearer to the TC.. they are not picking up enough signal to work well. If you have the latest express.. plug it by ethernet to the TC and bridge it.. turn off wireless in the TC and use the Express only.. that may work better until you steel yourself to purchase a new TC/Wireless router.
