Airport Express to Verizon DSL Modem - Connectivity issue

I have Verizon DSL at home. I have an iMac G4 1.2GHZ w/o internal wireless. I'm trying to use the AX to join the DSL Wireless, and use the Ethernet on the AX to provide internet access to the iMac.
Setup:
Verizon DSL modem w/ build in Wireless G
MAC address authentication
AX MAC added to the MAC list
AX Sucessfully added to DSL Wireless (I can see it connected at the DSL modem web page
AX Status light is green (confirmed its getting an IP from the DSL Wireless)
iMac plugged into the AX via ethernet (confirmed its getting an IP from the AX)
No internet access on the iMac however.
I did notice in the Airport Utility that sometimes the AX is logging:
Connected to: <insert mac address here>
Disconnected from: <insert mac address here>
over and over at times....
The AX and the Wireless router are approx 15ft from each other.
I've also powered everything down, fired up DSL Router 1st, then AX, then Computer. Still no dice on internet to the iMac.
Any suggestions? I shouldn't have to add the iMac MAC address to the filtering...but maybe....didn't have time to try that lastnight/thismorning.
Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the discussions!
Couple of thoughts here:
Check AirPort Utility - Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just below the icons
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Enable ethernet clients"
You are trying to use the AirPort Express in a configuration known as a ProxySTA.
The modem/router will need to be compatible with this function, so you should check with your ISP to see how this could be enabled on your modem/router.

  • Verizon DSL - Intermittent Connectivity Issues - Westell 7500

Hello guys! I'm hoping you can help me out.  I can't even count the number of problems I have had over the past 9 years, and each time Verizon decides to blow me off like always.  Getting to be the last straw.
Anyways - I'll have a solid (slow, like always) connection, and then all of a sudden my DSL Light on the Modem starts blinking.  It'll blink.. then solid.  Repeat. It does it randomly.  I've tried to recreate it on my own, but haven't been able to.  Just seems to be random. Sometimes I'll go 30 minutes without a disconnect, sometimes only 2 minutes, if that.  At first I thought it must just be rough weather or some outage.  Today is day 4, and I'm sick of it because a lot of what I do is internet based.
My plan is the 3.1-7Mbps.  I had the one below that plan, but speeds of <1Mbps were killing me.  My usual speed with this is roughly 5Mbps. Modem is set to bridge due to me using a separate router for my network.
I have tried with no success:
    -power cycle the modem
-turned off all devices on the network
    -new RJ11 cable
    Here are my Trans Stats:
    Transceiver Statistics
    Transceiver Revision        A2pB020b3.d20h

    DSL Speed (Kbits/Sec)                         3296                                 469
    Margin (dB)                                               6.3                                    9.9
    Line Attenuation (dB)                             57.0                                  34.1
    Transmit Power (dBm)                         20.4                                   12.4
Here is the log.  The light was solid.  I cleared the log.  I refreshed, gave it about 1-2 minutes and it disconnected. (flashing light.) I let it establish the connection again, and then went to pull the log. (All)  I think while I was doing this, it disconnected again, but I'm not sure if it'll show.

I apologize if it looks jumbled.  I wasn't sure how else to put it on here.
I hope you guys can make sense of it.  I've had verizon not show up after I've waited around all day, been disconnected on the phone many times, and have been given the run around.  I don't want to go through it all again.  Let me know if you need anything else!
    Thank you so much!

  • Which one shoud do DHCP; Airport Express or Wired DSL Modem?

I have a wired DSL modem for my internet connection, and just purchased the Apple Airport Express to provide wireless to all 3 computers on the network (2 Mac, 1 PC). Which piece of hardware do I want to do the DHCP? I think right now it's set up on both, but I'm not sure. Any advise?

DHCP server is responsible for allocating IP addresses to the computers on your private network. In order to avoid duplicating addresses, you can only setup one DHCP server per subnet. It makes sense to set up the DHCP on the router that's also running the NAT (Network Address Translation), this will ensure both functions are going to use the same private IP address range. It will also simplify IP address reservation, and port mapping.

  • @ Airport Express and BEWAN DSL MODEM : no internet ..why ?

    Hello,
I connect a BEWAN ADSL Modem to my Airport Express and create a Airport network to have internet access for my Ibook.
I have choose "Ethernet" for Internet access with DHCP parameter.
Here's what i see : the Bewan ADSL modem give to the airport a public IP for the ip address (that comes from my Internet Provider), a netmask and a router ip that is 192.168.1.1.
On my Ibook, i could connect to the airport (printing is ok) but I couldn't have internet access : blank page under Safari...
My Airport Express has the last Firmware....
I think is a trouble between the BEwan ADSL modem and the Airport because I have Internet access when i directly connect the Bewan Modem to the Ibook.. a routing trouble ?
Do i have to manually enter IP parameter of my Airport ?
Have you the same configuration ?
    Thanks for helping me fast.

    ouba john,
I'd recomend trying a reset and reconfigure. Your setup sounds pretty simple. Hold in the reset button on your AE until the light blinks, let it restart, and choose your unmodified Airport express from the drop down menu. Run Airport Setup assistant from the Utilitiies menu and try to let that program do all the tweaking for you. Once it's up and running, you can go into the wireless settings with Airport admin and reconfigure security if you wish.
This is "just give this a try" advice. It seems I've heard odd things about ADSL modems, so good luck

  • Newbie-2 Mac Laptops, One AE, One Verizon DSL modem, VPN-Set Up?

I have read through the discussions here before I posted, but since I am new to Airport Express (AE) I may have missed the obvious.
Our household has two Mac laptops. I just purchased AE and am trying to figure out how to hook it up with my Verizon DSL modem.
Can I just use an ethernet cable from the DSL modem to AE? Or do I need some kind of switch?
Will two laptops (with Airport cards) be able to connect to the internet at the same time using AE?
One laptop has a VPN for work. Will there be issues with AE and that set up?
    Sorry for the dumb questions.

My question is how do I keep my Power PC connected to the DSL modem and set up the AE? There is only one ethernet port out. Do I need a hub?
No. Since the AirPort Express has only a single Ethernet port it can not connect to a broadband connection AND support a wired (Ethernet) client. Using a hub or switch between the broadband modem and AirPort Express will put the AirPort Express's DHCP server in direct conflict with your ISP's DHCP server. Your ISP won't like that.
    Your options are:
Replace the AirPort Express with an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), or an inexpensive 802.11b/g compliant base station. In addition to the WAN port, the AEBS provides one LAN port (an inexpensive base station will provide 4 or more) for connection to wired (Ethernet) clients.
Place a wired router between the broadband modem and the AirPort Express. Configure the AirPort Express so that the option to distribute IP addresses is DISABLED.

  • Can I use the Airport Express as a cable modem?

I am trying to set up wireless internet in my home, and I am planning to purchase an Airport Express. Can I use the Airport Express as a cable modem, or do I have to purchase a modem from the ISP and then connect the AE to the output of the cable modem?
    Thanks,
    Adrian

No, the AirPort base stations do not perform the functions of a DSL or cable modem, so you will still need to acquire one.

  • Can't find Airport Express via wireless or wired connection.

I've run across this topic in this forum and a lot of others and nothing I've found has helped resolve the issue. It seems like the one definitive answer I found was to return it to the store, but I'm hoping to avoid that so I figured I'd try once more.
Running Windows XP and using a linksys Wireless-G network card. When I first got the Airport Express I was able to connect to it but then I had some issues with my cable network connection and had to reset everything. Since then I haven't been able to connect to it, and currently I can't find it using the Base Station. Tried resetting it to factory defaults about 10x and I'm still stuck on blinking yellow. I tried connecting it directly with a network cable and even then my computer can't seem to find it.
I tried turning off my firewall, reinstalling the Airport Utility, connecting to the IP address 10.0.1.1 using the "Configure Other..." box and no luck.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks much.

The issue is within the network configuration of the Airport Express. As you mentioned, all hardwired devices can use AirPlay but all wireless devices can't.
Normally, the Airport Express will wirelessly join your existing network, and Airplay will work with all devices. Any reason why you have your Airport Express connected to your router via ethernet?

  • Airport express second generation do not connect to the internet

Airport express second generation do not connect to the internet. I changed my location and the problem happened . Earlier it was running smoothly. I am not finding the cause of the problem. I switched on and off several times but the problem persists. Please help me.

Are you asking the make/model of the computer or the AX base station?
Neither, I was interested in the make/model of the cable modem.
Our ethernet connection was fried in an electrical storm so we had to go wireless.
Electrical storms are never a good thing when it comes to electronics. What was/is your current network configuration? Is it something like the following?
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > AX > (wireless) > wireless devices
Is there another router, other than the AX, in the configuration? ... or an Ethernet switch? I'm just trying to understand your network to best advise you on how to configure the AX.

  • How to get online apps to work with the Verizon DSL modem firewall set at "Medium" level, not "Low?"

How to get online apps to work with the Verizon DSL modem firewall set at “Medium” level? Xbox 360 Live, FTP, and the Windows sntp Time checker native to Windows XP WON’T WORK unless the Verizon firewall is first reset down to “Low.” Then all works well, but I then risk low firewall protection. Setup: · Westell 6100 DSL modem (Software Version: VER:4.04.03.00 Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0 Model Name: C90-610015-06), · D-Link DIR-655 wireless router (Hardware Version: A3, Firmware Version: 1.21), For Xbox 360 Live the “canned” port forwarding rule for provided in Verizon’s drop-down list for the Westell 6100 modem forwards ports 88 and 3074 for both TCP and UDP. This does not meet Microsoft’s forwarding recommendations for Xbox 360 Live stated at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874. Instead, for the Verizon modem (Westell) I made a new port forwarding rule to comply with those Microsoft instructions. It forwards ports 53, 80 and 3074 for TCP and ports 53, 88 and 3074 for UDP. These same ports are also forwarded in the D-Link router configuration. For FTP, port 21 is also forwarded for TCP and UDP in both modem and router. But they don’t work until I first cripple the Verizon firewall down to “Low.” How to get them to work with the Verizon firewall up to Medium?

While I do not know the answer to your question, BUT since you have this modem and another router - you could just follow.

  • My airport express frequently drops the internet connection. Once I unplug it and re-plug it in, everything is fine until it drops the signal again. This happens on a regular basis. Is there anything I can do ensure it maintains the internet connection?

My airport express frequently drops the internet connection. Once I unplug it, and re-plug it in, my Macbook Pro17,IMac 24, iPad air and my wife's Acer 15 works  fine until it drops the signal again. This happens on a regular basis. Is there anything I can do ensure it maintains the internet connection?

    It is tricky..
But yes it can be done as long as you use a different IP subnet to what is being used for the internet..
So I need to know what modem router you have?? Does it have wireless as that would make it very easy?
What IP is the computer getting?
Then I can give you the details to setup wireless statically on a different subnet.

  • Can an airport express support wireless and wired connection at the same time

im wondering if i can use wireless and wired connection at the same time

The Ethernet port that the old AirPort Express has got is to connect the AirPort Express to your modem, not to connect another PC or Mac, so you can only connect wireless devices to the AirPort Express.
If you have the new AirPort Express, you can connect a wired PC or Mac and more wireless devices or computers at the same tiem

  • Can u run Airport Express and a wireless modem together?

Can u run Airport Express and a wireless modem together at the same time?
I'm using AE purely for music distribution and have just bought a wireless modem for the internet (not a AE). However I can now only select either the AE network, OR the wireless internet network (it's BT HomeHub). Hence I can either play music or use the internet, but not together!
    Any ideas anyone..??
    Thanx
    David

You should configure your AirPort Express (AX) to join the wireless network provided by the modem. The instructions are in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

This can sometimes be the result of a faulty/damaaged USB sync cable.  Do you have another cable you could test it out with?

  • 4S Verizon Network / Internet Connectivity Issues?

I have been having problems with what appears to be Verizon Network/Internet Connectivity issues. I am located in northern Colorado, using an iPhone 4S with a Mophie Air battery backup/case.
I am in a solid 4G area (even though the phone is 3G) and I have not had any problems with any connection issues, until last night. I still see three bars of 3G service on the phone indicator area...so it is decieving.
I can still recieve emails, text messages, and phone calls, but nothing that uses the internet will work.  All apps seem to try to open and try to update, but the whizzy-wheel indicator just sits and spins until I get a "Network Error" message or a time out error of some kind. Most error pop-ups are saying to check the internet settings and try again. Ugh!
Also, since it seems to be trying to recognize the network all the time (even when all tasks are killed and nothing should be running), my battery is going down MUCH faster today! I took it off of the charger at 7am and it was down to 20% battery in only 4 hours! Then I turned on the battery backup, and it is quickly using that up too! At this rate my phone will be completely DEAD by the time I leave work today, and I haven't even used it for anything all day (except to try to connect to the web a few times - testing)!
I have tried the following so far to try to regain internet through the Verizon network, to no avail:
checked for software updates...phone was up to date with iOS 6.0.1
checked my firmware version (it is 3.0.04)
killed all background/running apps (with the home button double-click/hold icon/end)
"reset" my phone via a couple of methods (both the regular power off option and the force-power off option).
*228, option 2 (to reset Roaming)
    cleared all data cache areas/cookies/etc.
    Cellular data is set to "On"; Roaming is set to "On" for all options;
I have a 64GB device (57.3 usable capacity) of which I still show 46.2 available.
WiFi is set to "Off" (although I can use WiFi at home with no problem if I need to, but I shouldn't have to!)
Airplane Mode is set to "Off"; Restrictions are set to "Off"; Bluetooth is set to "Off"
Basically, there is NO REASON my phone should be having connection issues!
    PLEASE HELP?!!

I tried everything you did and more, i thought i had it working, but i got a voicemail today and when i went to open it earlier it just has the wheel loading forever and then says it cant onnect to voicemail. the searching does make it wear down the battery faster as well.  i can get calls, texts etc, but i cant help but think there are a few bugs with the ios 6.01 software
