Airport Express trouble

Hi:
I couldn't connect to the internet this morning, though I had an airport signal. This has happened before so took my usual approach. I turned off the airport and then the cable modem, turned them back on in reverse order, and restarted both computers (iBook and iMac, both connected via airport). I did that a half dozen times. Nothing. I connected the iBook directly to the modem. Got a connection, so that is not the problem.
According to my handbook, I took a paper clip and pushed in the reset buttton on the Airport Express. However, it does not say what to do next, and I still don't have a connection, though my computers, again, show they are getting a signal.
Help!

Welcome Amy
A quick copy paste from the support site, below. You performed a factory reset and now you need to reconfigure your express using the Airport Setup Assistant.
Setup Guide: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/AirPortExpressSetupGuide.pdf
Reset Article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
How to perform a factory default reset
Important: This erases all settings and saved profiles. The settings erased include Access Control and RADIUS settings.
Follow these steps:
Unplug the AirPort Express from the power outlet.
Press and hold the reset button.
Plug AirPort Express back into an AC outlet (still holding the button).
Continue holding the button until you see the light flash green four times, which should happen after a few seconds.
Release the button.
As with a hard reset, the AirPort Express will not be visible in the AirPort menu item or AirPort Admin Utility for a short time. Remember that this whole process takes approximately 45 seconds to complete. You may then use the AirPort Express in its default state or reconfigure it using either the AirPort Express Assistant or AirPort Admin Utility. See the above hard reset section for information on the default settings.

  • My epson epl-5800L and airport express troubles

This topic is also published in leopard "printing, faxing and scanning" discussion part of that apple support forum. However, i didn't get any response so i decided to report the problem here in a hope...
I recently bought an airport express (b/g) in order to use it with my epson usb printer epson epl-5800L. I'm running mac os X leopard 10.5.7 on my macbook pro (2.4 ghz). The printer is plugged into the airport express (firmware 6.3).
My problem is the following : i can only print one job (one document), after that if i want to print a second document, the printer don't accept the print job...and the print status windows shows the following message "Unable to open device (read failure)!". The only solution to get it printing again is to reset the Airport.
I downloaded and reinstalled the last 10.5 driver from epson site, this didn't result in any success, the problem remain, it's even worse now the application office word quit unexpectedly if i try to print through airport express. The error message say "The application escpageASTool quit unexpectedly".
The problem seems only related to airport express via Bonjour protocol, because if i connect the printer directly to the usb port of my macbook pro i can print without troubles. Also, as reported from many forums Tiger 10.4 seems not concerned by this problem.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,

  • New Airport Express Trouble

    Alright, so here's the deal:
    I have a titanium p-book w/ 1GB Ram, Superdrive, Tiger.
    I have a DSL connection.
I just got an Airport Express base station and am having the following problem:
I used the Airport Setup assistant to configure my new wireless network successfully, and the light is green. I recieve full reception from the unit and yet I cannot access the internet. However, if I bypass the Express Base Station by connecting the ethernet cable right to my computer (from the DSL modem), it works fine. Note that either way, AirTunes works fine. When I bring up the Internet connect window the status states
"Connected to network 'BIG ISLAND' (that's the name of my network)
Connected to the internet via Ethernet"
I have done the following things to try and solve the problem:
Reset the base station both plugged in and not. (no result)
    Reset the modem. (no result)
Switched the ethernet cable. (no result)
    Here is my theory:
Everything is functioning properly, but something is not set up correctly in my Network Settings. I think it must have to do with PPPoE/DHTP...I have an account user name and password, but I also have an IP address....
    help!
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

It appears as if you need to setup your AEBS PPOE settings to "log in" into your DSL connection.
Using the Airport Admin Utility, select your base station and select internet. Make sure the following are selected:
    Connect using: PPPoE
then enter your account information (then change password and enter your password)
    Always stay connected
    Then select Upload.
Give that a shot. Let us know how it works.

  • HELP!!! Wi if airport express trouble

Hello everyone, help is muchly needed.i have a 1st gen Apple TV and a airport express upstairs hooked up to my Bose speakers. My wifi hub was originally upstairs linked to my airport but my wifi signal was very poor. Tonight I have brought my wifi hub downstairs back to the main telephone socket. Now I'm stuck, do I need to buy another express to hook up to my wifi hub downstairs to connect to the airport express upstairs. My wifi now is 100 times better with the hub downstairs but having no music around the house is a nightmare!! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

    Welcome to the Apple community.
I probably misunderstand you, but if your wifi signal is 100 times better, I don't understand your problem.

  • Airport Express Troubles

I use an Apple Airport Express as my home router...I have a PC that could connect to the APE just fine running Windows 8. I just upgraded to Windows 8.1 and now it connects to it but Reads "Limited" and won't get "online". All my other devices...iPad iPhone Macbook Kindle all connect just fine. APE is running current version of software

    First, welcome to the discussions.
As you are, I am sure aware, you have several different options available to you in the UK. I would first suggest you have a look through this guide of UK Modems, Routers, and Modem/Router combinations.
    http://www.adslguide.org/reviews/
USB Modems, and Routers have shown, that they are very unreliable and problematic at best.
Many of the Internet Service Providers opt to furnish there clients with USB Hardware and then as time goes by and the users find that they have problems and find out more information reguarding Internet and Networking they discover there connections will be more reliable with ETHERNET Modems and Routers rather than USB.
Sometimes your Internet Service Provider will exchange these USB devices for the more reliable Ethernet with a simple phone call while at other times it requires you as a user to purchase the hardware to make this change.
This same link will give you several options for service as well as cost and the hardware that they offer.
I suggest you need ADSL service and a Wireless Modem Router combined.
Remember there are several different set-ups and options available to you just make sure you use ethernet instead of USB.
    Cheers Don

  • Printer Troubles: Powerbooks, Airport Express and Epson C86

We have two Powerbooks, and we have an Epson C86 connected to an Airport Express. We are having trouble printing to the C86. My wife can not print at all and I can print only when I restart the AE, then as soon as my laptop is put to sleep and woken up again I can not print at all. I have to restart the AE.
I've tried resetting the printers and the printer utilities, but that again works once then not at all.
Is the issue the OS, the AE or the printer? Are there Epson printers that work smoothly with the latest OS and AE?
    Thanks.

Actually, the problem is still persisting! In order to print I have to do the following:
1 Go to the back room with the printer
    2 Restart the printer
    3 Restart the Airport Express
    4 Restart the Powerbook
Everytime! I am so ****** about this. The printer used to work just fine on the network. Sometimes I feel like technology takes one step forward and two steps back! Just give me a pen and paper!

  • Having trouble with my Airport Utility not supporting either of my Airports Expresses or Basestation. Do i have to update Firmware of airports or is the issue with my version of Utility which i believe is the latest. Thank you.

having trouble with my Airport Utility not supporting either of my Airports Expresses or Basestation. Do i have to update Firmware of airports or is the issue with my version of Utility which i believe is the latest. Thank you.

AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will not support the older versions of the AirPort Express.....model numbers A1084 and A1088. Check on the side of the Express for the model number.
In addition, AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion will not support the older "round" or "dome" shaped versions of the AirPort Extreme.
Can you check to see how your devices might be affected?

  • Trouble airport express mavericks

    Hello,
Since I installed OS 10.9, my Airport Express v 7.6.4 lost the connection with AIrport Extreme v 7.6.4. I'm using Airport Utility 6.3.2.
I had the same trouble when Airport Utilitity upgraded to 6.3 few months ago. The only soluce was to reinstall utility 5.6, but actually 5.6 is not compatible with oS 10.9.
Did someone meet the same trouble? Any soluce? (I'm waiting for your comments before reinstalling utility 6.1 or 6.2).
    Thanks!

    Same problem for me.
Unfortunately, it would seem Apple has figured out a way to get more $$ out of a perfectly working Airport Express.
Utility 5.6 does not work with Mavericks and I have the older Airport Express model A1264 that only works with this utility. Unless there is a fix I cannot find, it looks like we are SOL.

  • Airport Express/Time Capsule Wi-Fi Troubles

    Hi everybody,
I'm having some troubles setting up my new AirPort environment (all the products are 1-2 generation, I call it "new" because I had to modify the position of all the modems and I can't get them to work).
I have a Time Capsule connected to my ADSL modem. When I'm next to it the download speed is 1MB (megabyte) and the upload is 500KB (kilobytes). I have a smaller "house" on the other side of the garden that we use as entertainment space, it has just two rooms, a bathroom and a big living room.
I can connect to the Time Capsule (and then to the Internet) at 800KB when I'm in the bathroom, but when I move away from it, towards the living room, the signal drops. I get a "connection timeout" error if i try to connect, and if I keep moving the Wi-Fi doesn't connect at all.
I controlled if there was some kind of interference, but the walls are thin. So I took my AirPort Express in here, I attached it in the bathroom, and if I stay there (not in the living room) the signal is ok and I can configure the Express to extend my Time Capsule network.
It doesn't work. I followed the Utility AirPort step-by-step and it said that everything was ok and the Express light turned green, it worked decently (~500KB) and it spread out all over the living room, but when I got up the next morning  to check if everything was fine, even if I saw the green light of the Express it was like it didn't work at all.
    Carlo
    P.s.
Right now Utility Airport is working this way (the Express doesn't extend the signal), but when I got it working the AirPort Express was connected directly to the Time Capsule

    The following illustrates the problem:
Depending on the Extreme's firmware version, you may find an option to configure the Extreme to not "allow this network to be extended". That will limit the Express's available connection options to the Time Capsule.
Try that. If you are unable to find that checkbox in AirPort Utility then it's not an option. Apple removed it in a recent firmware update (it's always on by default). You might find it by reverting to an earlier firmware release, but I don't necessarily recommend that.

  • Trouble with keeping connection with Airport express

    Hi,
I've got 5-6 year old airport express which gives me some troubles. It has worked for months but recently it just disappeared from Airfoil and when I looked up the settings it said that it wasn't installed.
I tried to reinstall it several times without success. When I used old versions of the program it worked for a few days. And then the same thing happened, it disappeared from airfoil and I had to reinstall it again.
Could it be so that this old model of airport express is in conflict with my Mac Os Leopard system so it keeps forcing my airport settings to go off? Is there a solution to it so I don't have to reinstall it every now and then?
    Thanks for your help

I need to share a wireless connection to a old powermac that does not have a wifi card. I have an airport express that is connected "join wireless network" mode, and I have run an ethernet cable from the express to the G5. However, I am not getting a internet connection on the G5 (the rest of the wireless network works fine).
If you launch AirPort Utility, put your AirPort Express into "manual setup" mode, then view the AirPort panel, Wireless tab, have you checked "Allow Ethernet clients"?
I am wondering if I should have the express set up in one of the other "wireless mode" options such as, "participate in a WDS network"? What exactly is a WDS network anyway?
WDS is for pre-802.11n equipment. You don't want to use it unless you have to.
If I click on "internet" in Airport Utility, go to the airport express, I see that "connection sharing is set to, "Off (bridge mode)" and grayed out.
    What exactly is "bridge mode".
"Bridge mode" delegates control to the "upstream" router. In your case that's what you want.

  • Trouble getting my new Airport Express to work.

So I purchased the AirPort Express (A1392) and I'm having a lot of trouble getting it to work properly.  My AirPort Utility recognizes it and it appears on the network to be Stable, however, it only works for streaming music wirelessly when the light is flashing amber (which I know means it's starting up).  As soon as the light turns green the sound cuts and I can no longer connect to it using my iPhone or Macbook Pro, but AirPort Utility still recognizes it.  I appreciate any help I can get!

My AirPort Utility recognizes it and it appears on the network to be Stable, however, it only works for streaming music wirelessly when the light is flashing amber (which I know means it's starting up).
Sorry, not exactly. A persistent, flashing amber light indicates that any of the several potential conditions may require your attention:
The base station has not yet been configured because it is new, or the reset switch has been set.
You have selected a security configuration that is not recommended.
One of several other conditions, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable or invalid IP address has been detected.
    (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305101)
If you run the AirPort Utility, it will show an amber circle on the summary page next to the area(s) causing the problem. Click on this amber circle and it should provide an explanation. Please post back your results.

  • Trouble getting internet through Airport Express

I am trying to set up the most basic wireless network with a cable modem, Airport Express and G4 Powerbook running 10.4.6. I have went through all the steps of setting up the modem then the Airport Express and configuring it with Airport Admin. and all that. I get perfect signal from the express but when I open Safari it doesn't do anything. It doesn't come up with the network diagnostic "Not Connected to the Internet" screen or anything. When I plug my modem directly into the Powerbook through ethernet it works fine.
It seems as though I am just missing a step or an option or something like that.
I have also tried to use my roomates old Motorola WA480G wireless router with similar results. I can get Wi-Fi signal through the Airport card but Safari brings up the network diagnostic screen.

I am having this exact same problem, only using a Dell laptop with Windows XP instead of a Mac. I had my Airport Express set up on a LAN at work a couple of months ago and it worked perfectly. It's been in storage for a couple of months, and now that I am trying to set it up at home with my cable modem, I can't get it to connect to the internet.
When I plug the modem in with an ethernet cable everything works perfectly. But when I plug it into the airport (after doing the power down/power up process) the LED goes solid green, but nothing will load in my browser. I can use other wireless networks without problem.
I also can't get it to print anymore. When I plug the printer directly into my computer it prints just fine. But when I plug it into the airport, it won't print. I've set the printer up using Bonjour, and the Airport Admin utility detects the printer. But when I print I get an error message saying that the printer failed to print the document.
    Any ideas?

  • Trouble printing to Canon ip4200 over Airport Express from Windows XP

I've just spent the last 4 hours trying to get my Dell laptop running XP to print to my Canon ip4200 USB printer connected to my Airport Express. My PowerBook (10.3.4) connected without issue and has been working fine. The XP laptop just refused to print, and the "troubleshooter" was useless. It would print fine over a direct USB connection, but, despite following the directions for connecting an Airport Printer in XP to the letter, it failed to print every time.
