Airport Express turns off unexpectedly

Hy, I have a problem from a week with my airport espress.
It turns off unexpectedly, when I connect it to the electrical outlet,
it works for a few minutes (good wireless signal). After few minutes
It turns off, like no power. If I muve the cable, it starts to work, but after few mitutes
it turns off.
I think thet the problem is related to the power supply (I tried to change several outlets).
suggestions?
Thanks
Matteo

  • After 15 mins  with no activity my airport express turns off how can I make it permanent

After about 15 mins with no activity my airport express turns off. How can I make it stay on permanently ?

Not sure what you mean by "turns off".  Are you saying that the light on the Express goes out after 15 minutes?
Assuming that it is functioning correctly, the AirPort Express is "always on". It has no type of "sleep" setting.
If the power light on the Express remains on, you have some other device on the network that is going into a standby mode or sleep mode. Check the Preference settings on other devices on the network.

  • Airport Express turns off

Over the past week, I have noticed that my Airport Express (model MC340LL/A) turns
itself off periodically. I have it cabled to my iMac and periodically use
a wireless connection to my MacBook. I have to pull the power cable and plug it back in to restart. A pain if I fire up the MacBook downstairs.
Is there some timer or setting that turns off the device after some period of no connections to an operating computer?

The model number that you provided indicates that you have an AirPort Extreme, not an AirPort Express.
In either case, there is not a setting or adjustment that powers the device down after a period of inactivity. It should remain on 24/7 unless it is physically powered off.
If you notice that the symptoms continue, you should make an appointment at an Apple store or authorized repair shop to have the device and it's separate power supply checked for proper operation.

  • AirPort is turned off on reboot

    Hi,
AirPort is turned off on reboot.
I don't have any setting for that.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks.

    bwittbold, welcome to the discussions!
From your description, this sounds like an internal power supply problem on your AX, but it couldn't hurt to try a hard reset on the unit as a last resort. If this is successful, you will need to reconfigure the device.
Pull the power plug from your unit. Hold in the small reset button with an unfolded paperclip or something similar and continue to hold it in for at least 10 seconds while you plug the power cable back into the AX.
If this does not help, it is time to call Apple support for repair or replacement.

  • Airport keeps turning off!

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. When I'm running wireless in my home, I experience a lot of drop offs from the Internet. While some of this is due to poor wireless reception, what puzzles me is that when I try to get back on, I keep seeing that Airport is turned off. When I go to Network Preferences, it also tells me that Airport is turned off. When I attempt to turn it back on, I am asked to verify my password and such. Still, Airport is indicated at not being turned on. I am forced to Restart my MacBook Pro. When I connect up to my router via an Ethernet cable, Airport is indicated as being on. Can anyone please offer me some assistance?

  • My IMac  version 10.6.8 with Intel core duo beeps and turns off unexpectedly in both Mac and Windows mode. How do I fix this?

My IMac turns off unexpectedly in both Mac & Windows mode.  I've repaired disc and permissions using the Snow Leopard install disk and cleared the cache without help.  Any ideas how to prevent this?

The HAT test detected no problems.  Perhaps one of the peripherals, e.g., the backup disk, is causing the problem.  I'll try to run the MAC without peripherals for a few days and see what happens, unless you have other suggestions.
    Thanks

Have you tried using a WEP password for your wireless network instead of a WPA one? That fixed it for me.

  • Why won't my airport express turn on after thunder storm ?

Why won't my airport express turn on?

There are three Airport resets, soft, hard and factory default.  It would probably be beneficial if you tried each one in sequence.  Actually, you could jump to the factory default reset if you don't mind reconfiguring from scratch.
If none of the above helps, you may well have a harware problem.

  • VNC with a computer who's airport is turned off?

Sorry, this is probably kind of a stupid question....but can you use remote desktop to monitor computers who's airport is turned off?

sure, as long as they're connected to the network via Ethernet instead.

  • Modem Setup Says Airport is Turned Off When It's Turned On

I'm trying to set up a new modem/wireless account using Motorola 2247-N8. During the se- up phase it keeps telling me that the AirPort is turned off, when in fact it's turned on and can pick up many wireless networks in my vacinity. This problem keeps kicking me out of the set up phase so I can't even set up the new network. I go into System Prefrences>Networks and the AirPort is there with a green light. What is the problem?

If your MacBook (MB) is able to "see" and connect to other Wi-Fi networks then chances are the AirPort card built-in the MB is not the issue.
By default, your Motorola Netopia gateway device has a local (LAN-side) router IP address of: 192.168.1.254. Your MB will need to be on this local network in order for it to find it. This may require that you temporarily reset your MB to using an IP address, like 192.168.1.100. You can do this via System Preferences > Network > AirPort. Easier still I would recommend that you temporarily connect the MB to the Motorola using an Ethernet cable. The Motorola should assign the MB the proper IP address and you should now be able to access the Motorola's web-based administrator interface.

  • Device turns off unexpectedly and does not respond

Just got my iPhone yesterday and originally it took over an hour to turn on. I was able to get it on at one point and go through the activation and syncing process. The phone turned off unexpectedly once the next morning and took over an hour to turn back on, only after plugging it into the computer and then unplugging it. Restoring it was not possible. It turned off again and I was able to boot it up withing an hour. Then now it turned off again and I haven't been able to turn it back on for over 5 hours. Help!

  • Satellite A660 turns off unexpectedly during heightened performance situations

    Hi,
I currently own a Toshiba Satellite A660, recently it has been shutting off unexpectedly when I play games.  I've always played these games before which is why it concerns me.  After it shuts down if I try to turn it on immediately the fan goes at full blast and it will turn off again and I must wait a few minutes for it to cool.  It seems like my computer is working too hard to cool the processor or whatever.
I cleaned up my disk space and am at 0% fragmentation so thats as far as my knowledge goes.
    Thank you

  • Can Airport Express bridge off another Airport Express?

    Hello All,
Currently I have the current setup and working great for the most part.
Aiport Extreme (Base) - Connected directly to my ISP Modem upstairs.
Airport Express 1 (Bridge Mode) - Bridged to the Airport Extreme Base and placed midway hall upstairs
Airport Express 2 (Bridge Mode) - Bridged to the Airport Extreme Base and placed downstairs
Currently when I am out on my deck, I will receive 1 bar or no signal.. The signal that I do recieve is coming from one of the airport express..
My question is, If I place a third additional Airport Express outside on my deck/patio will this daisy chain off the current AirPort Express that is already bridged to the Airport Extreme Base, or will it ONLY be able to bridge from the AirPort Extreme Base and not daisy chain from the AirPort Express? In other words, if I do not receive signal from the AirPort Extreme base on my deck/patio will this be of no use to extend the range?
    Many thanks in advance!

My question is, If I place a third additional Airport Express outside on my deck/patio will this daisy chain off the current AirPort Express that is already bridged to the Airport Extreme Base
Sorry, but no. Although the third AirPort will connect to the AirPort Express, it will "join"....not extend...the network. When an AirPort "joins" a network, it provides no additional wireless signal coverage.
or will it ONLY be able to bridge from the AirPort Extreme Base
Correct, if you want the additional AirPort Express to "extend" the network.  An "extending" device must connect directly to the main base station.....not to another device that is already extending the wireless signal.  The reason for this is that Apple's "extend" feature only allows a signal to be extended wirelessly one time....not two.
if I do not receive signal from the AirPort Extreme base on my deck/patio will this be of no use to extend the range?
Correct. But, if you located the additional Express somewhat closer to the AirPort Extreme, it might pick up enough of the signal to be able to extend it. Remember, an extending device can only extend the quality of signal that it receives.
However, if you could run an Ethernet cable from the port on the current "extending" Express to the other Express that you want to add, you could configure the additional Express to 'create a wireless network" and effectively extend the network that way.
