Airport Express, update software? help?

When I turn my computer on, Airport Utility opens up and it has the internet world symbols and a green circle.
The problem part is, the airport extreme symbol has a 1 in a red circle and an amber flashing circle next to it.
help??

Click it. AirPort Utility will tell you the reason for its need of attention. It may be that a firmware update is available or some other reason that you may elect to ignore.

I no longer have the CD containing the Airport Express setup software. Is there somewhere that I can download the Windows version so that I can get the Airport Express working again?

You can configure your Airport Express using Airport 4.2 for Windows available here:

  • AirPort Express update to 7.6.1 fails with error -6753

I have an AirPort Extreme acting as my primary base station, and a AirPort Express acting to extend my wireless network.  The Extreme updated just fine to 7.6.1 (The update took a while, but it was fully successful.)  But my AirPort Express repeatedly fails to update.  I get the message "An error occured while updating software -6753".
Also note that I first did the update to OS X 10.7.3 (not yet a choice in the Operating System dropdown below this form.)
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Marne,
Thanks for reply. Good to hear everthing is working fine with your Express.
wifiguru wrote something  interesting on a similar thread, which helped me updating the Express. In the configuration of the Airport Extreme I switched from channels automatic to channel 12 (no special reason for that number, just a try). After that I could update the Express to 7.6.1 without a problem and everthing seems to work fine now. I don't know how to reference wifiguru's tips so here is a copy:

Have you guys tried switching channels after you upgraded to make sure it's not a bad channel/interference issue ?
As for downgrading, if you launch AU and click on the AP, you will see the pop up which gives you AP details. You will see version info. on that popup. Now hold down the option key and click on Version and it will give you a drop down menu and you can downgrade to the older sw. if needed.
I recommend playing around with channels first to eliminate other environment related issues before you do this.
Now it's too late over here to test the HiFi but I'm very optimistic -> the iPhone Apps are working.
    All the best

  • Airport Express with Airtunes help!

I'm new to the wireless world so my question is why would I get the blinking yellow light on my Airport Express with Airtunes even when I'm within 5 feet of my G4 that has a airport card installed (802.11B). I also tried putting it in the living room which is one floor down and got the same thing.
I updated the firmware for the Airport Express with Airtunes but have not updated the airport card in the G4 because I'm unsure at the apple download site which software to download.
System profiler reports the airport card is 9.52 firmware version.
So is this what I update to: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120097
The music is only cutting out from time to time but I would still like to see a green light on the Airport Express, its odd that it blinks yellow stating that I have a weak connection.
I'm not sure updating the firmware will help the weak signal, I used the airport utility to setup the Airtunes, but maybe there is a different way to configure the network to make it stronger, like I said I'm totally new to this stuff.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The blinking light doesn't indicate a weak wireless signal, it indicates that you do not have an internet connection established.
Are you using the AE for music streaming without an internet connection?
Haven't tried this myself, but it might eliminate the blinking light:
    1. Open Airport Admin Utility and double click your AE to open the configuration.
    2. Select the Internet tab.
    3. Set to configure manually and enter:
    IP address: 192.168.1.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Router Address 192.168.1.1
    DNS servers 192.168.1.1
If this doesn't work, there probably isn't much you can do except establish a good connection to another router to get the light to turn green. The above numbers shouldn't be terribly important either since you are just trying to get the Airport to think it has an established connection.

  • Wired computers unable to see printer on Airport Express...help?

    Hi all,
I recently set up an Airport Extreme on our office network to offer wireless network access piggybacked on our wired router. I then purchased an Airport Express which I was planning on using as a wireless print server for our Canon i9900 for all office computers connecting wired or wirelessly, which would interface with the network via the Airport Extreme Base Station.
I have configured the Express as an extension of the existing Airport network, and attached the printer to it via USB. All the computers in the office which have airport cards onboard can see and print from the printer, which is great. The problem is that all of the computers connecting to the network via wires are unable to see the printer (this is under both 10.3.x and 10.4.x, all airport software completely updated.) The Extreme base station shows up for all office computers in their Airport Admin Utility, AND if the printer is connected directly to the Extreme Base Station via USB, all computers can see the printer over Bonjour/Rendevous.
Anybody have ideas as to how I can get my wired machines to see the printer on the Airport Express?
    Thanks!!

Applications > Utilities > Airport Admin Utility
    Scan and Select your Airport
    Click Configure
    On the Airport Tab
    Base Station Options...
    Check Enable Remote Printer Access

  • Airport Express/Router Connection - Help Needed!

I was given an Airport Express for Christmas to use to beam my iTunes from my iMac to a pair of powered speakers in a different room. I was using the AE in conjunction with a Netgear wireless router.
It was a pig to set up but now I wish to change everything and I might need help.
I want to connect my router to the iMac by ethernet cable - the 2 bits of equipment are only 2 feet apart! Thus the AE will be the only piece of kit connected wirelessly to the router.
I would like to delete the present connection of AE to router and start again.
Is there anything I need to know about changing my router to Mac connection from wireless to wired and reinstalling my wireless connection from router to AE?

    For the iMac:
System Preferences > Network > Show > Network Port Configurations
o Verify that a Built-in Ethernet option exists. If it does not, click "+" to create one. (Note: If you are unable to create a Built-in Ethernet configuration, the Ethernet card in your computer either doesn't exist or it is not recognized.)
o Verify that Built-in Ethernet is at the top of the list. If it isn't, you can drag it to the top.
    Advanced > TCP/IP tab
    o Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
o Configure IPv6: Automatically or Off
    Advanced > DNS tab
o Verify that your ISP's DNS server(s) appear. If they do not, click "+" add them.
    Advanced > Proxies tab
    o Configure Proxies: Manually
o Select a proxy server to configure: <All proxies should be unchecked unless you specifically require a proxy for Internet access.>
    o Exclude simple hostnames (unchecked)
o Bypass proxy settings for these Hosts & Domains: <leave blank>
o Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV) (checked)
    Ethernet tab
    o Configure: Automatically
    For the AX:
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    *AirPort > Base Station*
o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>

  • Airport express update

I updated the airport express software today. restarted computer, and can no longer connect to the internet. My husband's powerbook (airport express NOT updated) still is able to connect.
When I try to open internet connect dropdown from the airport express icon on toolbar, I get the beachball and it just won't open. what can I do now?
    g4 power book   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

There are three Airport resets, soft, hard and factory default.  It would probably be beneficial if you tried each one in sequence.  Actually, you could jump to the factory default reset if you don't mind reconfiguring from scratch.

  • New to the Airport Express and NEED help

I am really network stupid, I just purchased an Airport Express to play Itunes over my stereo. I have a linksys router. I always get the same error message..."The airport assistant found windows is not allowed to manage wireless networks on this computer this can be a result of having a 3rd party that manages the wireless networks" ... can any one help me on this

The issue is that your laptop's wireless zero configuration (WZC) service is currently controlled by a third-party utility, instead of by WinXP OS. Typically, this is due to vendors like Dell, who provide an alternative method that is enabled by default. The AirPort Setup Assistant is expecting the native WZC service, and thus, why you're seeing the error message.
Note: I am going to assume that you are using a Dell laptop for these instructions.
You can, temporarily, disable the third-party tool, by doing the following steps:
    - Right-click on the Dell Wireless Network Connection utility icon in the System Tray.
    - Select "Open Utility" from the pop-up menu.
    - In the "Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility" window, click on the "Wireless Networks" tab to select it.
    - Uncheck the option "Let this tool manage your wireless networks."
    - Click "OK" to close the window.
    - Re-run the AirPort Setup Assistant to setup the AX.
To reenable this option, just do the same steps, but re-check the option.

  • I changed my Airport Extreme network name and password, now I can't access my Airport Express speakers.  Help please.

I changed the network name and password associated with my Airport Extreme and now my system is not recognizing my Airport Express speakers.
Can someone help me get my speakers and sound system back online?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

You will need to think in reverse here.
Change the network name and password back to where it was on the AirPort Extreme and get things working that way.
Then, change the name and password on one AirPort Express, then the second. Both Expresses will be blinking amber at this time. Power them off.
Now, change the name and password on the AirPort Extreme.
Power up both Expresses and they will now join the AirPort Extreme network correctly since you have programmed them with the new network name and password.

  • Unable to create a wireless network with my airport express.  Please help!

I am trying to setup a wireless network with an airport express, and connect to it with my Macbook. I just bought both of these and haven't been able to get wireless to work.
I initially plugged the ethernet cable from my cable modem into the airport express and plugged it into the wall. The macbook detected it when I opened airport utility, but the express had a flashing amber light and I was unable to connect. I then unplugged the express and re-started the cable modem. This time, the airport express showed a solid green light -which should mean that it is working correctly. However, the macbook did not find the airport express device when i searched for it using airport utility. I am able to connect the macbook directly to the cable modem, after re-starting the modem, and access the internet so at least some of the systems are go.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help.

Is the issue that you cannot access the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) with the AirPort Utility that is running on your Win7 PC? ...  or that once you have configured the AXn, the PC is unable either to find the new wireless network or can find it but cannot connect to it?

  • Can't connect PS3 to Airport Express Network - please help!

    Hello,
This may have been done to death before, but I couldn't find it...
I have an 80GB PS3 that I am trying to connect to the internet wirelessly through my Apple Airport Express.
When I follow the setup procedure on my PS3, it finds the Apple Network, I put in the security key and it all seems to be going OK. However, when I test the internet connection, it fails to find the IP address.
Can anyone help me with this? Please???
    Many thanks...

    I have fixed it!
Basically, I had wpa2 encryption enabled. I changed the encryption to wep, which then prompted me to enter a 13 digit password, which I did. Fired up the ps3, entered the new 13 digit password and voila! All working beuatifully.
    Many thanks for your help!

  • Time capsule & airport express settings! HELP!!

    Hi guys,
Would really appreciate some help. I have been running a time capsule with various devices and all has been going well. However there was an area of the house which the time capsule wifi couldnt reach so I bought an Airport Express to extend the network.
In Airport Utility, the Time Capsule has an error saying "conflicting DCHP range" and an error beside the Airport Express saying "Device not found." Ironically both devices are working (at the minute).
This is drivng me mental, if somebody could let me know what settings the two devices should be on regarding, DHCP, NAT and Bridge mode I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

  • Two Airport Expresses   Time Capsule Help

    Hi,
I am at my wits end in regards to my wireless network. Here is my configuration:
I have an ATT Uverse 2 Wire 3800HGV-B internet wireless router (wireless turnedd off), 2 Airport Expresses (1st generation), an Airport Time Capsule (4th Generation), a new iMac running 10.8.4, a Mac Mini running 10.7.5, iPhone 5's, iPhone 4, iPad 2nd gen, IPad 3rd gen.  The U Verse acts as the router and the TC is set to bridge mode. The TC is set to transmit 802.11n 2.4ghz & 5ghz, both AE's are set to 802.11n 2.4 ghz only. The TC and both AE's have same wireless network name for the 2.4ghz network and braodcast on different channels. I currently have each device set to "create a wireless network".  Two story home with R Foil construction seems to inhibit the Wi Fi signal.  In my backyard I get my neighbors Wi Fi and not my own. How do I set up the airport express devices? Extend or Create? Each airport express currently is plugged into a Cat5e ethernet jack which connects to a switch which in turn connects to the Uverse Router. the TC is connected to the cat5 jack which connects to the Uverse Router in the basement, I am confused about extending, creating, maybe setting up roaming? Should the Airport Express Devices be connected to my ethernet network?? Please help!

    Leave the TC alone.
Close AirPort Utility if it is open.
Turn off one of the AirPort Express devices and work with just one for now. With the Express powered on, hold in the reset button on the device for 7-8 seconds and release. Then allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.
Connect the Express to the Ethernet wiring
Click the AirPort icon at the top of the 10.8.4 Mac, and wait a few seconds for a listing of New AirPort Base Station to appear. Just below that, click directly on AirPort Express.
AirPort Setup will open up automatically, take a minute to analyze the connection and then tell you that the Express will be configured to extend the Time Capsule network.
Enter a device name that you want to use.....AE1, or example....and click Next.
AirPort Setup will now tell you that the Express is being set up to extend using Ethernet.
When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.  That's it.
Check with a laptop in the general area near the Express to confirm that it is working.
Then, configure the other AirPort Express the same way, starting with a Hard Reset, and using a different device name.....AE2, for example..... to keep things straight.

  • Forgot password for Airport Express can you help?

I've forgotten my password, could someone help please?
    Thanks

Try using something like a straightened paperclip or tip of a ballpoint pen to press and hold the reset button for one or two seconds - that will reset the Airport Express.
This from page 40 or thereabouts of the AE user guide:
    Chapter 5 Tips and Troubleshooting
You Forgot Your Network or AirPort Express Password
You can clear the AirPort network or AirPort Express password by resetting AirPort
    Express. Follow these steps:
1 Use the end of a straightened paper clip to press and hold the reset button for one
    second.
    2 Select your AirPort network.
-On a Macintosh, use the AirPort status menu in the menu bar to select the network
created by AirPort Express (the network name does not change).
-On a computer using Windows 2000 or Windows XP, hold the pointer over the wireless
connection icon until you see your AirPort Network Name (SSID), and choose it from
the list if there are multiple networks available.
3 Open AirPort Utility (in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Macintosh,
and in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows XP or Windows
    2000).
4 Select your AirPort Express and click Configure.
5In the dialog that appears, make the following changes:
    -Reset the AirPort Express password.
-Turn encryption on to activate password protection for your AirPort network. If you
turn on encryption, enter a new password for your AirPort network.
    6 Click OK.
AirPort Express restarts to load the new settings.
