Airport Express -- Utility No Longer Pick Up Airport Express

I have had my APE for several month with no problem. Today, it seems to have died. When I run Airport Utility, it says it is unable to find any Airport Wireless Devices. The amber light is flashing. The help section says to use manual set up but I don't have that option because the APE is not even recognized.
Help!

If you cannot see the Express via AirPort Utility, you need to try to reset it and try with the Express connected to the Mac via ethernet. There are 3 levels of resetting the Express. Here is a link on resetting the Express:

I think this article is misleading, it seems that "AirPort Disk Utility" no longer exists in 10.7 Lion (and possibly hasn't existed since 10.5).

Good luck, I've treid with this one:

Notice how outdated it still is. Not only that, but how it's got wrong info, like 1st Gen Express Model #.
Maybe you got more weight than I do...

  • HT1218 My airport utility no longer works, but I have just changed my router.  Is there something I need to do ?  The orange light shows up on my airport, rather than the green one it should have.  Please help !!!

My airport utility no longer works, but I have just changed my router.  Is there something I need to do ?  The orange light shows up on my airport, rather than the green one it should have.  Please help !!!

**** little info about your equipment.
If you just replaced the router with an Airport Extreme or Express:
disconnect the modem from power, disconnect the new router from power, connect the modem to power and wait till it os fully started up, then connect the new router to power. After a while the amber light will turn to flashing, then after a while it will turn to green. Then with AirportUtility (in Aplications/Utilities) it should be configured with the password.

My iPhone will no longer picks-up the wifi at home(comcast). My mom used to have comcast and I used to connect there as well, but she changed to verison and I connect there, but no longer can get the comcast wi-fi at home.  The wi-fi settings are ok there, but blank at home now.  The phone's network settings are fine because I can join other wifi networks.  I've done a reset with no results.  Is there a manual way for me to restore the comcast wifi from the router?

First thanks for the reply and second sorry about the confusion.  I was unable to get the full message out, but here's the problem:
Like I had mentioned, for a long time both me and my Mom had comcast and as soon as I came into both dwellings the phone would automatically jump onto either wifi network.  Then a while ago she verison and used the same Belkin router.  So there was no problem and my phone jumped on her system as usual, but at some point something happened and when I got home I noticed that the phone asked to be put on my system.  I would input the password, but it would say "unable to connect" to the network.  I did the standard things like check the network settings on the phone itself and they were fine.  Then I did a reset (actually twice) with the same result.  It seems like the phone ability to pick-up wi-fi is ok because when I go to my University I can log-in with no problem.  The only thing I noticed is when I look at the settings (on the iPhone) for the router at home the whole thing is blank.  My question is: Is there a manual way to get the phone to pick-up my router?  I need to have it on my network at home because I use DocumentsToGo a lot.  Thanks again for your response again and I hope things are clear now.  Have a great day.

  • IPhone 4 no longer picks up WiFi signal

    Has anyone else experienced this?
My iPhone 4 which is less than 2 years old, no longer picks up WiFi unless it is right beside the router. This means I am having to rely on 3G signal in my own home! No other electronic devices in my home are struggling with this issue. This is still an issue when I am in other places with WiFi, the phone ocassionally recognizes that there is WiFi available but by the time it starts to connect all the WiFi signal has been lost again.
    I have tried:
    - turning my phone off and on.
    - updating my phone
    - turning on and off my router
    - searching for a solution to this online, but it seems I am alone in this issue.
Help! Please! What should I do?

I restored my iPhone and nothing has changed except I have lost several hours of my life trying to make sure everything is backed up and then trying to reset all my apps.
I restarted the iPhone as a new device, still no wifi connection or ability to recognize any wifi networks.

  • HP Scan utility no longer works with Mountain Lion

Updated from 10.6.8 to 10.8.  HP Scan software utility no longer boots, yielding an error message warning of incompatibility.  I run Software Update over and over again, but HP Scan still did not boot.
I ran HP Uninstaller, but it did not remove the HP folder within Applications.  So I deleted HP Scan and other utilities manually.
I ran Software Update again, and it re-downloaded and re-installed HP Printer Software Update 2.11.  However, it did not install the HP Scan utility.  Now I can only scan using the Printer/Fax System Preference or Image Capture, whereas the HP Scan utilility had much more functionality.
Apparently HP Scan is only part of HP's Full Software Install.  However, Mountain Lion ONLY allows the use of Software Update for printers, and there is nowhere on the HP website to download the HP Scan utility or Full Software for Mountain Lion -- they only instruct one to use Apple's Software Update which doesn't provide any HP utilities.
Where can I find the HP Scan utility (for PSC 1610) that is compatible with 10.8?  It certainly is not available from HP -- see:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw _lang=&product=390315
    Thanks.

Please be so kind to help me. HP wanted 30 USD to help me. Why should I pay 30 USD to HP when their new integrated software update does not work?
Had my HP Photosmart Premium C410b for a bit over a year. Worked like a charm in 10.6 and 10.7. I am a frequent user of the HP scan software. I am fully aware that I can use the system pref - > print&scan -> open scanner, BUT that is like going back in time to windows 3.1 days. Try scanning 20 pdf's a day, especially when 2 or more pages in one pdf, add to the equation that My Acrobat X is no longer accepting the scanner either, I can print, but I can't scan, and then I guess we'll agree that the integrated apple scan solution is nothing sort of a emergency solution. I need my HP software!
I downloaded the Lion software file
    HP_Lion_Ink_SW_v12.13.14.dmg [1/1, 194.96M]
But to no use. Only get the message that it is for 10.7 or older.
HP claim that all I need to do is to go to Apple -> Software update and gte the software for my HP printer. I just get the message "No updates available". Can't find the software if I search for it.
I don't know how I found it but from apple's pages I found a 460MB file called HewlettPackardPrint2.12.dmg as one forum suggested it to another persons with same problems. When installing I think it said to take 1GB of space. I still don't know what I installed since I see no software anywhere and nothing changed. Maybe a bunch of drivers for all HP printers ever made? Don't have a clue...
All I want is just that HP scan software so I can go back to my normal workday but it seems so impossible. I really hope someone can help me. Anyone have anything to help me one step closer I sure would appreciate it. I need my HP scan software and Acrobat to work.
Second option is buying a new printer. That's just sad if it comes to that...

  • Why does my iPod Touch no longer pick up mail?

I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch, with all the latest system updates. Suddenly Mail no longer picks up any new mail from the server. I haven’t touched anything, all the POP and SMTP (which is irrelevant for pick-up anyways) server names are identical to the ones on the Mac.
My iPod Touch goes through the motions of picking up, little cog wheel spinning, displaying the date and time of the update, but no new messages nor any error messages.
    Just quietly fading away...
    Thanks,
    Klaus

I appear to have fixed the problem. I deleted all accounts from the iPod Touch, and let the syncing rebuild the accounts from my MacBook.
    Thanks,
    Klaus

  • I had an issue with my ipod freezing up when downloading 6.0.1 . My ipod is now unresponsive, and my computer no longer picks up my ipod. Will my ipod back up still be accessible if I try removing then, reinstall itunes?

My ipod will no longer turn on, and comes up with the image of a connector lead and itunes logo, but if I try plugging it back into my computer my computer no longer picks it up. I'm thinking of try re-installing itunes, but need the back up I made to still be accessable.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • After updating iTunes to 11.0.1.12 and updating Apple TV to 5.1.1 my Apple TV is no longer picking up my photo library. It just keeps saying "loading library" but never brings the pictures up. This didn't happen with previous versions. Any ideas?

After updating iTunes to 11.0.1.12 and updating Apple TV to 5.1.1 my Apple TV is no longer picking up my photo library. It just keeps saying "loading library" but never brings the pictures up. It also tells me that home sharing isn't on even though it is and then I have to turn it off and on on the PC so the Apple TV even recognizes the photo library. These issues didn't happen with previous versions. Any ideas?

Update on my previous comment. I have solved my issue. Issue was with Windows 7 firewall not operating correctly. I was unable to add itunes to the 'Allow programs to communicate through windows firewall'. Found the following page useful http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/windows-fire wall-cant-change-some-of-your-settings/514d78fb-39e9-47b1-b561-bc49cbdad904
Followed the instructions to the foot of the page, restarted PC, normal service resumed on windows firewall, added itunes to list to communicate through firewall. restarted itunes, restarted appletv, success!!!
Hope this may help somone else.

  • My IMac is no longer picking up my wireless connection.

My IMac all of a sudden is no longer picking up the wireless connection.  It works with the ethernet cable attached.  My I-phone picks up the wireless, and I have worked with my internet service provider and they can't help me.  They said it was the router, but the I-phone works wirelessly here at home.
    Any suggestions?
I will be deeply grateful.  Thanks!

    What version of OS X?
This is beyond my experience, but appears to be a solution for Snow Leopard.

Though you didn't happen to mention recently upgrading your OS X version so I'm not sure what would have caused this change.
Also, here is another form thread regarding this problem. Someone fixed it by shutting off the router!

  • We have an iPad mini, since we updated it with ios7, it no longer picks up our wifi. It doesn't even list my network on the wifi screen anymore. Is anyone else having a similar issue?

We have an iPad mini, since updating to ios 7, the iPad no longer picks up my network. My iPhone 4 was having a similar issue, but it was picking up my network. I was able to find a fix to the iPhone, but the nothing is working for our iPad. Is anyone else having a problem like this? Is there a fix?

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
You will have to re enter the Wi-Fi password.
If that doesn't help, try here >  iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

  • After the Airport update today, Airport Utility no longer sees my new Extreme or my 2 new Airport Express relay stations (same network); however, my internet is working and all Airports are green?

After the Airport update today, Airport Utility 6.0 no longer sees my new Extreme or my 2 new Airport Express relay stations (same network); however, my internet is working and all Airports are green?  I'm running Lion on my iMac and updated when Airport Utility prompted me to do so a few hours ago.  After applying the updates is when Airport Utility stopped seeing my routers.  But they are working?  Thoughts?

Did you remember to completely power cycle the entire network?
You would want to do this after any update or change to the network.
If you did not do this yet......things are out of sequence.
Power off everything on the network.....all devices.....power down order is not important
    Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first and let it run a minute or two by itself
Start the next device connected to the modem the same way
Work your way out on the network starting each device about a minute apart
    Check the network

  • Airport utility no longer recognizes my Airport Extreme Base Station, which had been set up to extend a wifi network

Hi.  In November I set up my airport extreme base station (5th generation I believe) to wirelessly extend the wifi network we use at home to see if it would increase download speeds.  Before doing that, I did a factory reset of my airport extreme, and the owner of the airport extreme to which the ethernet cable is attached made changes to his network to allow it to be extended.  I folllowed all the directions from the apple support pages, and finally got it to work.  I could even access a portable hard drive which I attached to the airport extreme base station being used as the extension.  Then a week or so ago I noticed that my laptop would no longer connect to my base station.  I did not have time to look into it until this week.  Airport utility, either on my Mac or iphone no longer recognizes my base station.  My mac is running OS X 10.10.1  and my iPhone is running iOS 8.1.2  I have tried both hard, soft and factory resets of my base station to no avail.  The only thing that has changed after doing that, is that when I do a soft reset of my base station, a neighbors airport express appears when it never did before.  I can't actually connect to it, but it does try.  Then after approximately 5 minutes, it disappears from my list.
Today I went and pulled out my OLD AIRPORT EXTREME base station... you know, the one that looks like a space ship and is running wifi 802.1 b/c?  airport utility DOES locate and display that, but airport utility returns a message stating that it cannot be set up by this software.  I am attaching an image of that.
    Thank you,
    John
Does this have anything to do with the fact that 'Back to My Mac' is probably enabled?

I think the initial problem is that your iPhone was connected to an open network that wasn't yours.
Go to Settings > WiFi and "Forget" the network created by that AirPort Extreme, it's older than dirt. Forget your neighbor's network also.
Perform the equivalent actions with your Mac: System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced... Delete every network that appears, including your own.
Then, connect to your own network on all your devices, after which you ought to be able to use any of them and configure your Extreme without any difficulty. You may need to start over with a "hard reset" on both the main AirPort Extreme and the one extending its network.
Does this have anything to do with the fact that 'Back to My Mac' is probably enabled?
Not exactly, but using iCloud Keychain will populate all your devices with the names of preferred networks that any of them connect to, no matter where they are. I don't know why Apple considers that a beneficial feature.

  • Airport Utility no longer sees Airport Extreme and I think I need to redo my entire network - can someone help?

I just purchased this new Airport Extreme after my older Airport went down.  This Airport Extreme at times is super fast, but it gives me more headaches than the older version because it seems to drop its signal too often.  Last week I was able to see my Airport Extreme in my Airport Utility and was able to configure it - now Airport Utility can't find any Airport Extreme, although, it shows that I have an internet connection.  I was hoping that someone who knew how to do a nice easy network set-up could help me start from scratch so this is set up right.  As of now, our home uses the wi-fi for 2 Wii consoles, a wi-fi printer, cell phones, and an internet connection for my MacBook Pro - not too many connections, but still my connection drops all the time, all day long for no particular reason whatsoever.  I want to be able to have one good strong connection for my computer and the rest of the connections could be secondary.  I would like if the secondary items used a password, but not the same password as the main connection.  It seems to me like I'm not asking a lot, but I have no idea how to set this up because now I can't even find my Airport Extreme to configure it.
So, if anybody has some advice on the best way to set this up and how I would be able to start that process without being able to even detect my Airport Extreme, I would sure appreciate any effort to help me out on this.

Is your profile up to date?? Lion is not so commonly used now.. but was a lot more reliable than Yosemite.
What modem do you have? Actual make and model is a big help.
What is the main router? Is the modem supplied by ISP? Is it a gateway device?
If you use the airport as bridge or router, I also need to know how it is connected into the system. Mostly people have it via ethernet to the main modem or router.. please confirm.
One very important point.. the Wii need WEP security at least for older models.. You must NOT change security on the Extreme.. It must be set to WPA2 Personal (or nothing if you live at least 2km from other humans).
So, if anybody has some advice on the best way to set this up and how I would be able to start that process without being able to even detect my Airport Extreme
reset to factory and you will get control back.
The best way to test is full factory reset.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
Then redo the setup from the computer or iOS device with latest utility.
    1. Use very short names.. NOT APPLE RECOMMENDED names. No spaces and pure alphanumerics.
eg AEgen6 and AEwifi for basestation and wireless respectively.
Even better if the issue is more wireless use AE24ghz and AE5ghz for each band respectively.. with fixed channels as this also seems to help stop the nonsense.
    2. Use all passwords that also comply but can be a bit longer. ie 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.. no non-alphanumerics.
    3. Ensure the AE always takes the same IP address.. this is not a problem if you are using AE as main router but is a problem for when it is used in bridge.. you have to use dhcp reservation from main router or use static IP on the AE setup.
    4. Check your share name on the computer is not changing.. make sure it also complies with the above.. short no spaces and pure alphanumeric..
    5. Make sure IPv6 is set to link-local only in the computer. For example wireless open the network preferences, wireless and advanced / TCP/IP.. and fix the IPv6. to link-local only.
    6. If the AE is bridged and still having dropouts use a LAN port to connect to the main router instead of WAN.. we are finding the AE is problematic on the WAN port.

  • Airport Utility no longer shows two AE's on the network

I have an Airport Extreme Base Station + 4 AEs' (802.11n);  when Airport Utility window opened for an update, I quit in the middle of it, when i opened up the Utility today, it no longer shows 2 of the AE devices.  Anyone know how to have all shown again in Airport Utility? Thank you.

Ended up being a problem between my two routers conflicting with each other. Set up two different networks in the house and now all is happy.
