Airport Express with BT Home Hub and Xbox 360

Hi,
I know this is kind of an out there question, but im looking into buying an airport express and i was wondering if there was a way that the Airport express could connect to my existing wireless network (BT Home Hub) and share that internet connection over ethernet to my xbox 360.
My xbox is in another room and i cannot connect it to the router. I have been reading about WDS and client mode but it all goes over my head. can anyone explain if this is possible with the airport express even though i dont have an apple base station?
Im also wondering if Airtunes would work for my speaker system. Any help is appreciated!

"i was wondering if there was a way that the Airport express could connect to my existing wireless network (BT Home Hub) and share that internet connection over ethernet to my xbox 360."
Possibly. You would need to check to see if the BT Home Hub was compatible with what is called ProxySTA. Otherwise, the ethernet port on the Express will not function.
WDS would not be compatible with your BT. Even if it were, the wireless network bandwidth would be reduced by 50%. Not what you want for gaming.
Assuming your BT is a router with ethernet ports, you absolute best connection for any application, but especially gaming is an ethernet cable.
If this is not feasible, look at ethernet power line adapters. One adapter plugs into the AC socket at the router end and the other plugs into an AC socket near the 360. The adapters use the AC wiring in your home to transport the ethernet signal. This is almost as good as a straight ethernet cable and far better than wireless for gaming.
The Express would be able to join the wireless network of the BT router for use with AirTunes.

  • Airport express with bt home hub

    Hi
I would like to stream my itunes library from my pc to other powered speakers in other rooms in our house, i use a bt home hub for our wifi and think i just need to buy airport express and the appropriate cables to connect to my speaker system.
Is this enough or do i need any other equipment?
Also does anyone know if airport express will connect to the new bose soundock system?
    Thanks in advance

gilster, Welcome to the discussion area!
The AirPort Express (AX) will join the wireless network provided by the BT hub as a wireless client. You will then be able to stream music.
Shouldn't be any problem but you can check the audio output connection of the AX (www.apple.com/airportexpress/specs.html) and make sure that they are the same as inputs on the Bose soundock system.

  • Airport extreme with BT Home HUB 5

I had airport extreme Time machine + two airport express.
Since I connected with BT Home hub 5 very unstable and range very limited.. time out all the time . and even close to the AE time machine very slow connection.
    ?? what should I do?
I wna t to keep my Apple Wifi and my network name?

What model is the TC and running which firmware??
How well does the wireless on the HH5 work with the wireless off on the TC? That will give me some idea of the level of signal you are getting.
You always need to take this one step at a time.
Wireless is a technology more akin to voodoo.. add a healthy dose of black arts, some gremlins and stardust.. and there you have it.. chaos in a box.
Apple has a wireless diagnostic software onboard. Since Mountain Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT5606
The utility section is a big help at figuring out problems.
Load it onto a laptop and do a wireless survey around your house.. it can also show if the neighbour is fighting you will new equipment.
    Survey both 2.4ghz and..
    5ghz
Do it from HH5 only.. TC only and both together..
Check channels and check interference levels.. take notes so trying to overcome the voodoo with some science.
Take screenshot in different parts of the house and store them in a document so you can compare different charts..
Watch particularly for link speeds. and as you move away from the same room how quickly the signal drops.
If you post some of the screenshots as above we might be able to say more.
But a general observation.. try to put the TC near where you need it.. if that means several rooms away run ethernet to that location.. and run the TC there with ethernet if possible to desktop computers. Only use wireless to clients that need it. EOP adapters can replace ethernet if wiring is not possible although it is less than reliable it is still better than wireless.. they pack them with lower gremlin counts.

  • AirPort Express as a Wireless Adapter For Xbox 360 and to stream PC audio?

Ok, so I am wondering if I can do this config with an AirPort express. I want to connect the AirPort to my existing WiFi, and be able to plug in an Ethernet cable connected to an Xbox 360 to get Xbox Live, as well as stream audio from my PC. Is this possible to do at once? Also, is it possible to stream PC audio, not just iTunes music? Thanks for your time.

    Hello podalex,
Just an FYI for you with regard to the Airport Express:
It is always best to check with the software manufacturer FIRST. They will tell you if they have tested the product and the version, as well as whether or not it will work with Windows 7.
Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibility.)
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/w7itpro/ . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.

  • AirPort Express with USB - connect harddrive and use as time-capsule?

question: can I connect an external harddrive to the AirPort Express USB port and use it as a backup medium via wireless? In the tech specs its meant to be a USB port for a printer. help?

Hello jsmithko. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Sorry, but the USB port on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) only supports USB printers (or a USB hub with multiple USB printers for the 802.11n version).

i just bought my first imac (intel) and a wireless hp printer. i now realize that a wireless connection between my imac and my printer needs a router.
i have an airport express base station, which is a few years old. I can't find my documentation, so i don't know its specifications.
how can i find out the specs of the airport express i have and whether i can use it now? it says that it is model a1084 100-240v~ 0.2a 50-60 hz.
does that tell any knowledgeable people out there about the specs? can i search the apple website by serial number and find the specs?

  • BT Home Hub and Airport Express Issues

    Hello all
I am having major issues setting up my airport express to my home hub and also setting up Time Capsule to join my wireless network...
I really need a step by step guide if possible.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    PC

    Welcome to the discussions!
You told us that you were having "major issues", but did not tell us specifically how you are trying to configure the AirPort Express, or what service you want it to perfrom on your Home Hub network, so providing a step by step guide is not possible without a bit more information.
Can you clarify on this, please?
In regards to configuring your Time Capsule to "join" the Home Hub wireless network, do you understand that the ethernet ports on the Time Capsule are not enabled in this type of configuration, so you will not have the option to back up large files or make initial backups using an ethernet connection?
In order for the Time Capsule to "join" the wireless network provided by the Home Hub router, you willl need to know (or be able to locate) the exact type of wireless security settings that your Home Hub is using. The Time Capsule must be provided with this information in order for it to "join" the wireless network successfully.
Can you provide this information, or if you do not know, check with your service provider to obtain this information? We cannot proceed with the configuration until we have this information.
If you are able to locate the Time Capule near your Home Hub and establish a permanent ethernet connection between the Home Hub and Time Capsule, you will be able to backup using the Home Hub wireless network and also have the option to backup using ethernet if you wish. In addition, this type of installation is much simpler to configure (and more reliable in operation in my experience) and we would not need to know the type of wireless security that the Home Hub uses if you choose this setup option.
Please post back when you have an opportunity.

  • I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

I have recently changed my bt home hub and now my airport express won't connect to it? Any suggestions?

Anytime you change out a modem or modem router like the HomeHub, the AirPort Express needs to be reset back to factory default settings and then set up again.
The reason for this is that the Express is retaining some or all of the settings to connect to your "old" modem or hub, so it will not work correctly with a new device unless you start over again from factory default settings on the Express.
Power up the Express for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button on the side of the Exprsss for 8-10 seconds, then release and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
Now, set up the Express again, like you did originally with the "old" modem or hub that you had previously.

  • Hey, I have a AirPort Express Base Station ( 2nd Generation ), and I wanted to ask that if I join my network at home with the Express Station, will it still run the 2.5 GHz and the 5.0 GHz?

Okay, well I have just bought a AirPort Express Base Station ( 2nd Generation ) and I'm new to it, but I wanted to ask that if it join's a network you have setup at home, will it still run with the 2.4 GHz and the 5.0 GHz.

The AirPort Express will "extend" both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks and provide more wireless signal coverage when it is connected to another Apple AirPort router and configured correctly.
The AirPort Express cannot provide more wireless coverage though, if you are trying to connect it to another 3rd party wireless router using wireless only.
It should be possible to set up the Express to provide more signal coverage if you connect it back to the main router using a wired Ethernet connection or using Ethernet powerline adapters.

  • Airport express with mac and windows

No problems at all with mac and airport express but I have a vaio with window xp sp2 and a pc with vista home premium and even if they connect to the wireless network they cannot receive an ip address. How can I solve this problem? ( As always, we have to waste a lot of time when we work with microsoft operating systems... ;-)) )
    Thanks

Thank you for providing me with the exact model of your PowerBook. This model was available with either an optional or built-in AirPort Card. This card is only able to connect to 802.11b wireless networks with a maximum bandwidth of 11 Mbps. This card is also capable of connecting to wireless networks that use the TKIP encryption protocol. This protocol is used in either the WEP or WPA standard. The card is NOT capable of connecting to wireless networks that use the AES/CCMP encryption protocol that is part of the WPA2 standard.
However, some of the earliest versions of the AirPort Card did not work with WPA's TKIP implementation ... so it is possible that you may not be able to connect to an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) configured for "WPA/WPA2 Personal." It may also be problematic to connect to the same AX if it is configured to use one of the 802.11n modes that offer compatibility to 802.11b/g clients. This latter item does not sound like an issue as you are connecting, but wireless security does.
WEP introduces its own set of "problems." Not to mention, that is it completely un-secure. The following Apple Support article may be helpful in getting all of your wireless clients connected when using WEP: Joining an encrypted WEP or WPA Wi-Fi network

  • I have just changed my network provided and now i can't find my 1st gen airport express with airport utilities

Hi, can anyone help. I've just updated my network with a new hub and now i cant find my 1st gen Airport express with the curreent Aiport utilities.

From your description, it sounds like the AirPort Express was configured to connect to your "old" router or hub...and, to do that,  the Express remembered the specific ID of that device as part of the connection credentials.
The Express is likely still looking for the "old" device for which it still has the settings to connect.
Since you changed to a new hub or router, the Express has no idea how to connect to this new device.
If this is the case......then the solution will be to reset the Express back to factory default settings....and then configure it again to connect to your "new" hub.

  • Trying to get my Viera TX-P42S30B hooked up to me home network via Airport express with no luck.

Trying to get my Viera TX-P42S30B hooked up to my home network via Airport express with no luck.
Have tried both wired (network cable) and wireless to no avail, can't find much info online, any help appreciated !
    Airport utility 5.5.3
    Airport Extreme 802.11n
    Airport Express 802.11g

The problem is that the AirPort Express (AX) is creating a subnet.
To prevent that, configure the AX to act as a bridge (so that it is NOT sharing a single IP address).

  • Air Port in my Imac and Airport Express with my 360

    Hi all,
Not sure if Im being nieve but I am trying to set up a network between my Imac and an airport express, with the ulitmate goal of connecting my Xbox 360 to that network. My imac has an airport card and Ihave tried doing the WDS setup any help that any one can offer would be great.
    Thanks

    G'day Duane,
Just clarifying things here, is it still possible to connect a 360 (via MS' networking adaptor) to a wireless network created by an iMac's built-in airport? Currently I'm using a network encrypted by a WEP password which works all fine and dandy with my MacBook. On the 360, it recognises the network, allows me to enter the password and connects, only to tell me when testing the XBL connection that the wireless network is not connected. The same problem happened when I took off the security. Is there a way around this apart from connecting an ethernet cable to my MacBook/directly into the router?
    Cheers in advance,
    -Tom

  • HT4587 I downloaded Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility.

I downloaded and installed Airport Express Utility 5.6 to get my old Airport Express to work with the latest Mac OSX 10.7.4, but when I install and run it, it still says my Airport Express is out-of-date and needs the 5.6 utility. What's up?

It is likely that you downloaded AirPort Utility 5.6.1.  If you checked the requirements, this only runs on Leopard or Snow Leopard Macs.
You have Lion, so you need AirPort Utility 5.6 for Mac OS X Lion

  • Airport express with Snow and wired Mac Mini?

    Hi,
I am trying to help my parents set up airport express.
They have a Mac Mini with no wireless card connected by ethernet to a Snow base station. That is fine, and computer sees the base station in Airport Admin. However, when I try to go to Airport Setup Assistant to set up the Airport Express, I get a message saying that the computer doesn't have a wireless card (which I know) and doesn't allow me to continue.
Is there a known thing where you can't use Airport Express with a Snow base station without a wireless card? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
