Airport express won't work after changing wireless router

I used to have a Netgear router, but changed it last night for the o2 wireless router. But now I've lost my itunes airtunes connections on my airport express'. I cant locate the Airport Express Assistant despite having the CDs that came with the AEs.
Does anyone know where to locate a download for the Airport Express Assistant?

The utility wouldn't even detect the Airport Express, until it had been reset.
The following webpage helped heaps!

  • Airport Card won't connect after changing wireless networks

    Hello,
I have a black macbook with an internal airport extreme wireless card. I use the computer at school and at home. Both school and home have functioning wireless networks in which other computers are connected and running with no problems.
When I open my laptop and wake it from sleep after changing from school to home or visa versa the airport card often will not recognize the wireless network. On many occations, even when the network is recognized it will not automatically connect to it (I have it set to do). A message saying "There was an error joining the network" comes up. The only resolution has been to reset the computer (which doesn't always work) or reset the PRAM.
Sometimes after reseting the PRAM the computer doesn't even recognize that I have an airport card installed at all. When this happens I have to reset the PRAM again to resolve it.
As a final note, when the computer doesn't automatically recognize the network and I click on the desktop wireless network icon, I get the "spinning beach ball" for a period of time before the drop down box with the available networks shows up. This seems strange to me because it shouldn't be a RAM issue as I have 2GB of ram installed on this computer.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Try the following:
    Delete Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list
    Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
    - Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
    - Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    - Restart, or log out then back in.
    Add Preferred Network(s)
    - System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Configure
    - In the "By default, join:" pull-down menu, select "Preferred networks"
    - Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
    - Restart or log out then back in.
If you haven't already, you may want to consider creating a network location for each (school & home) with the appropriate network settings required for connectivity at each. For each location, you can set the preferred network.

  • AirPort Express won't work with 7.0.2

Everything was fine til I bought a new Shuffle. It made me upgrade to 7.0.2, now my Airport Express won't work. I have firmware 6.2 and just uploaded all of the newest updates from apple.com for it (AX). The security is off on my network and the AX is connected with a green light. Still no option to choose my home stereo which is hooked up to the AX. HELP! I have spent all day trying to get this to work!!!!

My Airport Express when it is setup to extend my network while plugged into Ethernet will Create a network under settings
This is the correct setting to "extend" the network using an Ethernet connection. Technically, this is called a "roaming" network.
If I change this to Extend A Network it doesn't work properly.
This is because "Extend a wireless network" is used only when AirPort devices communicate with each other using wireless only......not Ethernet.
It would help if Apple used settings like "Extend a network using Ethernet" and "Extend a network using wireless only".....but they don't.
The AirPort Extreme will need to be configured as the main router if you want it to provide a Guest Network. It cannot do this if it is configured in Bridge Mode.

  • Airport EXPRESS doesn't work after software update on Airport EXTREME

My Airport Express stopped working after I did my software update for my Airport EXTREME the other day. It lost the connection to my Airport EXPRESS and so I did a hard reset and tried to redo the whole profile but after many, many hard resets, I still can't make it work.
Airport Setup Assistant shows that the setup is complete and everything is fine. But if I select "Extend my wireless range", after the setup, my Airport Express won't even appear anywhere. If I select "Join my wireless network" then it will appear with a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx IP address under my Airport Utility. It will also show up on my iTunes but I can't open it using Airport Utility and iTunes spends a long time searching for it and then gives up. In all the above cases, the amber light remains flashing and the green light never comes on. What else can I do to fix this??

Either change the channel that the phone is transmitting on or change the channel the Express is transmitting on. You can do the latter in Airport Admin Utility; the former depends on your phone.

  • My airport express just stops working after an hour

I have an Airport Express Gen 1 to extend a wireless network.  I also am using the Airport Extreme BAse Station.
I get the express plugged in and configured and it just loses signal after about an hour.
This happen when it is in the same room as the extreme.  The product just continues to fail

May I know your antivirus status?
    everything normal before?
do you remember if there is any changes before this issue happen?
updating your network card will be isolate driver issue
Some of this kind of cases will be solved by delete some temporary file (maybe this will be temporary solving problems, but you should try)
Goto Run:c:\temp and delete all the files/folders that present in this temp folder, disconnect that internet connection (LAN or WIFI).
press refresh of F5 on the desktop screen and then try to connect to that internet connection back
or try this via command prompt, run and type cmd
     ipconfig/flushdns
     nbtstat -R
     nbtstat -RR
     netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
     netsh winsock reset
or try clean boot, i suspected some of the software caused this issue
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us
I would also recommended to do full scan of your PC
If you not familiar with those step, i suggest you ask your friend or someone who understand about networking better, maybe your IT at office
since this steps will be involved Windows file and registry i recommend you find others or bring it to service center

  • Airport Express 802.11n and Dlink N wireless router

Problem: Unable to connect Airport Express N to Dlink N router
I have a Dlink G router and an Airport Express G in connected to that wireless network for a couple of years. I bought a new DlinkN router. I have been unable to connect the Airport Express G. I read many posts on this topic and concluded that I needed a new Airport Express N. I got one. I could connect both Airport Express G and N to the Dlink G router.
I tried to connect the Airport Express N to the Dlink N router. I get to the stage where it says the settings on the Airport have been successfully changed and to wait for the Airport Express to restart. The amber light keeps flashing. It never goes green. I have reset the Dlink router and the Airport Express N many times with no success. I even tried to connect the Airport Express N to the Dlink N router with wire and tried to reset it. It did not work either. There appears to be some problem connecting a Dlink N router to Airport Express N.
Does any body have a similar prolem or a solution?
Thanks for any help. In the mean time I will keep using the Dlink G router which works fine.
    Raj Warreir

More than likely the problem is with the Dlink N router. I have no problem connecting a D link g router and Airport Xpress G and N. I had to replace the Dlink N with the G due to the above issue.

  • Airport Express Won't work on Computers but works on other devices

I switched from att dsl to comcast internet. I set up my modem and then purchased an airport express to use as my wireless router. When I set up my airport express, I installed the airport utility on my windows vista laptop, was able to create a network, password, etc.. However, once set up, I could no longer find my airport express in my airport utility. My windows vista laptop, and windows 7 laptop can not connect to the internet. I also installed airport utility on the windows 7 laptop and that laptop cannot locate the airport express. However, my PS3, Wii, iPhones, and old XP desktop can all locate the network, connect and work very well.
Also, if I directly connect the ethernet cable into either laptop, they will connect to the internet fine. I have tried downloading drivers, changing security on both, resetting the airport, power cycling, and have not succeeded. I have no idea what to do next. I can not understand why most of my devices can detect the router and others can not. I know that the laptops can connect wirelessly because I brought them to my parents house to test them out and they both worked fine.

Hello akommatas. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Please try temporarily disabling the Windows or third-party software firewall on any PC that is having difficulties accessing the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) with the AirPort Utility. Can the utility find and access the AX now?
If not, instead of waiting for the AirPort Utility to scan, go to the utility's menu bar, and then, choose File > Configure Other ... > Enter 10.0.1.1 in the IP Address field, and then, enter public for the password.

  • Second Airport Express won't work

I'll explain my current set up first, then explain my problem. I have an iBook G4 running 10.4 with the latest version of Airport Utility. I have a BT Home Hub as my main wireless router, to that I have an Airport Express connected via an ethernet cable. To the AE I have a stereo lead connected to my amplifier. I use airtunes from my iBook to play music via the AE. I also connect the iBook to the internet via the AE unit (rather than through my BT Home hub as it's faster that way!).
    Ok my question/problem:
I have a amp/speakers in my kitchen. Also the wi-fi signal in the kitchen is poor. On mentioning this to my Dad he mentioned he has a spare AE unit, why not plug it in and extend the range of my original wi-fi signal and connect my second amp/speaker set up that sits in the kitchen. We are both working to the assumption that when a second AE is connected to the network, you can simply go to iTunes, select the drop down menu in the bottom right hand corner (the "select which speakers" and I choose "Kitchen" instead of my current "Living Room" AE.
Now I've spent so may hours trying to make this scenario work, checking the usual sites but it just doesn't seem to work. My wife may divorce me if I spend much more time on this! Save my marriage and help me listen to my beloved music in the kitchen.
Can this be done?! It's driving me crazy!!

Sorry guys I'm totally lost now.
The two units are clearly not at the same firmware level, one being older than the other.
I can't find a selection anywhere for "extend a wireless network" on AX2
I've also tried to configure the 1st AX to act as a WDS main base station. The 2nd AX should be configured to act as a WDS remote base station and I get the error message:
"AIRPORT UTILITY WAS UNABLE TO FIND YOUR APPLE WIRELESS DEVICE AFTER RESTARTING.
The settings for this apple device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the Apple wireless device. You may need to select your network again from the Airport menu and try again"
Which I can't do as AX2 disappears and I can't see it in the toolbar, or see it when I scan for it in Airport Utility and I can't see it in iTunes it just sits there flashing orange in the Kitchen as an expensive, useless bit of plastic.
    Help.

  • AirPort Express won't connect to existing wireless network

I just purchased the current gen AirPort Express and it won't connect to my existing wireless network. My current wireless network is on a D-Link DIR-827 and it operates on both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz bands. My current gen Apple TV is connected to the D-Link wirelessly and it works fine. Basically all I want to do is have a pair of speakers attached to the AIrPort Express and stream music to it via AirPlay from all my devices. When I use the AirPort Utility, I keep getting the error that 'it's setup to join an existing wireless network but it can't find it.'  The light flashes amber and I can't connect to it. Right now I've setup a new wireless network for my AirPort Express but ideally I would like to have it join my existing network so all my devices can stream to it without having to connect to it seperately.
    Thanks,
    Ata

    Hi Ata,
...Right now I've setup a new wireless network for my AirPort Express but ideally I would like to have it join my existing network
If you already configured your AirPort to create a separate wireless network, it would be best to reconfigure it to "join" your existing network by starting over with a "hard reset": Press and hold the reset button and keep it depressed, continuously, about five to ten seconds, long enough for it to flash amber. Then, it will glow amber steadily for about a minute while it starts up, then it will flash amber slowly indicating it needs to be configured.
It will then appear in your Mac's Wi-Fi menu like this:
Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
Be sure to select the option to "join" your existing network, and not create a new one. In that configuration, it will serve as a device for music streaming only, and cannot serve a wireless access point. For that, your router would need to be a genuine Apple AirPort Base Station.

  • Airport Express won't work with VPN

Finally made it through the nightmare of setting up my Airport Express to act as a wireless print server on my existing network (Linksys WRT54G router). However once I log onto my corporate VPN, I cannot print or even see the Airport. I have checked the LAN access box on the Transport tab of my VPN software which is supposed to allow split tunneling, but no luck. Everything works fine once I log off the VPN. I bought the Airport Express specifically because an Apple rep told me it would work with my VPN. My previous wireless print server (Linksys) would not support VPN.
    Appreciate any help!

My Airport Express when it is setup to extend my network while plugged into Ethernet will Create a network under settings. If I change this to Extend A Network it doesn't work properly. It keeps kicking me on and off WiFi, but the former way works with no foreseen issues. What is going on? I can't extend my guest network with the first option, I don't believe.
I have a 5th Generation AirPort Extreme and a 1st Gen AirPort Express.

  • Ethernet configuration Airport Express won't work - please help!

I'm trying to add an Airport Express to my network but having lots of trouble. I'd like to duplicate the settings of the existing one in the new one and simply change the IP address of the new one. (The existing unit has a static IP and works fine.) The network seems to be interfering with the setup process, so I connected my iBook directly to the new AP Express via ethernet. In Airport Admin, when I click other I get a dialog with the IP address 10.0.1.1 (which I assume is the default IP of a new AP Express) and a password field. The dialog is inactive until a password is entered, but I don't know what the default password, if any, is.
Will entering a default password allow me to do the configuration? What is it? If not, how do I configure the unit?

Thanks Duane. Couldn't find it anywhere. I'm still unable to connect to my new AP Express.
I created a new location called "AP config" and set ethernet TCP/IP to DHCP. After connecting computer to AP Express w/cable, clicking "Other" in AP Admin, and entering "public" into password field, I got a dialog telling me "unasble to read configuration."
    Any suggestions?

  • 2nd airport express won't work

I have an airport extreme base station and 2 airport expresses. The first express is necessary to extend the range for our wireless in the house. I can't get the second express to work with itunes since I started using the first express to extend range.
I have configured it and my computer sees it but it doesn't stop flashing amber and itunes tries to connect but is unable.
The guy at the apple store told me that it IS possible but I must be doing something wrong.
    Thanks for any help.

Hard reset the second Airport Express and reconfigure it to join your existing network in client mode.

  • My Airport Express Won't Work

I need help! I have airport express and it won't work. I have tried the directions step by step, resetting it, going to admin utility and network assistant, but, to no avail. I do have a secure network set up but airport express can't find it.
Questions: do I need to know all of the codes for the DNS as well as the server for Bellsouth(my ISP provider for my DSL)?
How do I "clear its palette" so that I can successfully reset airport express?
Not sure what to do next.

Is the indicator light lit at all. It seems quite a few 1 year old or so APX's have been dieing. Refer to this thread.

  • Airport Express won't join my existing wireless network...

I have Broadband in my house. I have a wireless modem also. I have spent hours trying to have Airport Express join the network so I can use the music streaming feature, but I have so far not been successful. I have seen a lot of references to it being very easy and straightforward to set up with it doing most of the work itself. As in, plug in AE to a power socket, open Airport Utility and follow the instructions... It doesn't appear to be that simple, not by a long shot. Can anyone outline how this can be done in simple steps? All of the online steps I have tried do not work, with many of them referencing aspects of the Airport Utility GUI that don't seem to exist...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
For the record, I DO NOT want to replace my existing wireless router, i just want AE to join the network...
    Thanks...
    Ronan

I have the same problem - the AE wont join my Draytek 2600 wireless network. I can stream music wired, but it refuses to join the wireless network. I have tried WEP, WPA, WPA 2 etc. Always get amber flashing light. Ive spent about 5 hours solid on it so far, and I'm a networking expert.
No other device on the planet has problems connecting to my wireless. currently I have:
    1) Belkin wireless Skype phon (no problems)
    2) SOHO wireless IP camera (no problems)
    3) Intel Macbook pro (no problems)
    4) G4 Macbook (no problems)
    5) Dell D600 XP notebook (no problems)
Try to connect the AE? No chance. Its just broken.
I have tried every conceiveable manual setting on the device also.
If I manually set the ip (outside the DHCP range, but within the subnet), subnet, DNS sever, domain etc, I get a GREEN light, but nothing can communicate with it. The utility cant see it, and itunes cant see it.
The real problem is there is no way to know if the problem is with DHCP or the wireless. Does green light mean it has a wireless connection, or it has a valid IP?
Interestingly, if I start it with a wired connection, get a green light, then stream music to it, then pull out the wire, the green light stays, and music players for about another minute (presumably wirelessly, but who knows?) before the music stops and the device (replete with green light), becomes dead to the network.
APPLE desperately needs to sort this out. Its junk.
