Airport express wont connect to internet

i cant get my airport express to connect to the internet

I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • Can't get airport express to connect to internet after ISP changed my modem

Hi. My internet service provider installed fibre optic to my house, so they gave me a new modem. Have not been able to get airport express to connect to the internet ever since. Just get the flashing amber light. Other than paying $50 for phone support, I have no idea what to do. I just use the airport so I can play music from iTunes from my stereo using airplay. I use the airport utility on my laptop.

Does the new modem provide a Wi-Fi network? If it does, and your only goal with Express is for iTunes streaming, the Express would just need to be reconfigured to join the new modem's wireless network. Please check out the following Apple Support article for details.

  • Can't stream music from iPhone to airport express when connected to internet

I have an issue with my airport express. When the unit is used solely for streaming music from my IPhone to connected stereo speakers without an Ethernet cable attached it works fine.  When I attach an Ethernet cable to the airport express and connect to the Internet on my iPhone, the airport express will no longer stream music from the iPhone. This is a recent problem, previously I was able to access the Internet on my iPhone from the airport express, whilst simultaneously streaming music from the iPhone back to the airport express.

Do you mean Lan cable? Can this be done wirelessly from itunes to airport express without the internet connections?  I can't connect to an airport express that's not connected to the internet.

  • Updating firmware in Airport Express disables connection to Internet

After updating my Airport Express to firmware 7.6.1 it will no longer connect to the internet via a 4-port router that is connected to a DSL modem. This arrangement was working immediately prior to the firmware upgrade. I have unplugged/plugged in the AE, turned off then on the modem/router/AE combo all to no avail.
The AE establishes a LAN, but Airport Utility indicates that the AE beleives that the Internet is disconnected, when in fact all the other devices attached to the router via ethernet cableing works as expected.
Any suggestions for reestablishing a working internet connection via the AE would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was able to fix the issue by directly connecting my AE to my MBP with an ethernet cable and using Airport Utiliites to reset the AE to factory conditions. I then had to reenter the various usernames & passwords on each of my connected devices, a pain but at least the AE now works well.

  • Airport Express Stopped Connecting to Internet, but Computer Says It Is

    Hi,
I usually can find answers on these forums, through FAQs and troubleshooting, but this one's got me stumped. I've got an Airport Express Base Station. It worked great and then one day - it stopped working. Literally, I was online until about 12:30am, went to bed, and then at 10:00am the next morning all was lost. In the airport status in the menu bar, both my laptop (running 10.4.11) and my husband's (running 10.5.x - not sure which)show the base station is connected and working. In Internet Connect, it says the base station is working. But I cannot connect through Firefox, Safari or iChat. I know its not the cable modem because right now I'm directly connected through the ethernet line (and obviously it works since I'm on this discussion board). I've rebooted, my machine, the Airport Express, the cable modem about 20 times, in all different sequences, with the same results. I tried troubleshooting through Network System Preferences and still, a no-go. The funny thing is, if I plug in the printer and the ethernet line to the Airport Express, I can't connect to the internet but can print just fine. I've also tried to reboot the base station to Factory Settings and it doesn't seem to be doing that (plug it in while putting a paperclip in the reset button). Is it broken? Did it fry inside? Anyone have any suggestions? Help!

Well, to anyone else that may have had this problem, I was able to reset the base station to its factory settings. Turns out I wasn't holding the reset button down long enough (duh). Went through Airport Setup Assistant and everything's working fine now. Phew!

  • Airport Express wont connect with iTunes Win XP

I have had two airport express devices to stream music from my XP machine through iTunes to two rooms in my house. My wireless network was unsecured so I wanted to secure it and then reconfigure all my devices. When I went to reconfigure the airport devices, I reset them, connected an internet cable to them, went through the Airport Utility routine, entered the right network name and password keys, and got the big green check mark at the end. The light on the Airport turned green, I unplugged the internet cable, it stayed green. Opened iTunes and saw my new device in the itunes window. But when I clicked on it, iTunes couldnt stream any music to it and finally gave up. Opening up airport utility it says it cant find any devices on the network even thought the light is green.
Any help please. I have spent all day trying to figure out what the deal is. I have been a user for multiple years and now cant even configure back to an unsecured network as before. I do run Msft Live One Care but the firewall doesnt seem to matter.
    Thanks,

It seems the issue is with the ActionTec PK5000 modem/router. ActionTec confirms an issue with the units ability to stream music/media via wireless. No answer as to when this will be fixed.

  • Airport Express - cant connect to internet via PPPoE

    Hi guys/girls,
I am having trouble getting internet access with my newly bought Airport Express 802.11n Wi-Fi. I was connected to the internet via an Arcor DSL-speed modem 200 (Arcor is my provider here in Germany), using the PPPoE protocol, and an Ethernet cable.
I have set up Airport Express (AX) to use PPPoE, and managed to get a connection to the internet for about 5 seconds (even up to 20 secs once - YAY!)... before the connection drops again. AX tries continuously to connect to the internet, as if it is stuck in a loop, but never manages to make the connection last. The trouble I am experiencing look very much similar to what is described on the threads below from about 2 years ago. There it is suggested that the Firmware could be the problem. Or is it my provider?
    In German: http://www.macuser.de/forum/f15/arcor-speed-modem-178771/
    In English: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1481024
Since both posts are from 2 years ago, and I would have expected the problem to be solved. Apparently not. Any suggestions?
    cheers

Yes - I was still old-school: plugging in my Ethernet DSL cable into my laptop every time, using PPPoE as that is what my internet provider requires.
I have now indeed attached AX to my DSL modem via the Ethernet cable. Following your suggestion,I set-up a network location where PPPoE is disabled. But unfortunately no effect... After 5-15 secs (even up to 35 secs this time!) i get the message that my Ethernet is unplugged. Which it obviously is not, and I even cant blame the cat for it!
    Two problems keep being listed:
    Ethernet unplugged
    PPPoE server
Could the problem be with my internet provider?

  • Airport express cant  connect to internet through linksys wrt54g router

    Hi, i need some help.
I have an airport express that i cant seem to get to connect to the internet.
I have a cable modem to linksys wrt54g wireless router. An xp computer connected by LAN to the router.
    An Imac wirelessly.
    An xp laptop wirelessly.
And a printer via the LAN
    All work just fine.
But when i configured the aiport express to be a wds for the linksys to increase the range for my laptop or imac for that matter. It displays a green light, but has no connection, because it doesnt give the laptop or the imac a correct ip adress, that is what i seem to think the problem is.
Please can someone help, i'm desperate.
    Thanks

  • Airport express not connecting to internet

I am switching from Clear to Comcast hopefully for faster, more reliable service.
Connected the Comcast modem directly to my Mac Mini, activated...voila on the internet.
Plug in Airport Express so that the Mini and my MBpro can share internet and a printer.
AE powers up,gives the green light, but no internet service.
System preferences>network states that WiFi has a self-assigned IP address of 169.254.xx.xx
that will not connect to internet.
With each reset the number changes slightly but still no internet.  I tried a manual number or 192.168.xx.xx
and WiFi connects but still no internet.
1-1/2 hours with Comcast provided no help other than to call Apple.  Is this really that difficult?
With Clear it was a snap, but I am at the edge of the coverage zone and it sometimes fades.
Please guide me through the steps.
    Thanks,
    JM

  • Airport Express wont connect

Brand new out of the box and plugged in. Amber light just keeps flashing and is not reconized by my desktop or my laptop. Software was installed on both and I have a Extreme base station. HELP

Try temporarily connecting your computer to the AirPort Express (AX) via Ethernet.
Then configure the AX using the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • Airport express wont connect anything but my macbook pro

    Hello!
I've searched but cannot find an answer to this question so here goes:
Today I purchased an AirPort Express and was able to configure my MacBook Pro to connect to it problem free.  I've created the network using airport utility but none of the other devices in my household can connect to the network: iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, AppleTV, & iPad Mini.  They all discover the device but none will connect.
    Help me please!!!!
    Thanks!!!!

Very simple solution: I was in Bridge Mode and switched it over to DHCP and NAT.  Boom....problem solved.

  • Air port express wont connect to internet

I am trying to use air port express and everything is hooked up correctly, it shows internet is there connected etc. but when i try to click on safari it doesn't connect to the internet. I am connected directly to the internet provider kind of like direct hook up to the modem. my network setup is a bit different. but what it comes down to is the airport is wireless and it doesn't connect to the internet. anyone able to help me get the airport working ?

In order to get help you're going to have to describe your setup and your problem a bit better.
First, how is your network configured? how are all the devices connected (hardwire or wireless) and what models of devices are you using?
A typical setup has a cable or dsl modem that receives a signal from your internet provider. This device is then either directly connected ot a computer, if it's the only device requireing internet access, or it's connected to a router via an ethernet cable.  Depending on the type of router, the internet access is then shared via ethernet (hardwire) or wirelessly to other devices throughout the home.
    How is your's set up?

  • BRAND NEW Airport Extreme Wont Connect to Internet

I'm trying to set up my AEBS and I run the wizard and everything checks out ok, then when the router restarts it says that I do not have a valid IP address and that it is looking for my PPPoE host.
I connect directly to my DSL modem via the Ethernet cable that WAS in my WAN port and it works fine, so I know my modem is fine.
    Any suggestions?

Try changing from PPoE to "Ethernet" set Configure IPv4 to "DHCP"
This is done in AirPort Utility (manual setup)>Internet

Trying to connect my xbox to the airport express. Have wireless in home and do not have a ethernet point behind tv/xbox. How do I configure the airport express to connect to my wireless network and then the airport express can use its connection via ethernet to connect the xbox to the internet.

Is your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) a 802.11n model? If it is, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge or ProxySTA. This would allow the AX to join another wireless network and have its Ethernet port enabled for wired clients, like the Xbox 360.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility.
