AirPort Express works great with PC but not with MAC

I have a PC and a MAC both able to connect to my AirPort Express in another room and play music. My MAC is a newer MacBook. When I'm running my iTunes library off my PC everything works fine and doesn't cut out. When I connect to my library on my MAC it plays fine for a while than most always cuts in and out and than completely won't work unless I reset the AirPort Express. My PC is running WIRED to my router and my MAC is running WIRELESS.
Why is this happening? Is it because I use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse on my MAC? Maybe that my MAC is running wireless? You'd think Apple products would work best with Apple products

Anyone at all? Any settings or anything to be set? Nothing?

  • Apple TV2 airplay audio (via Airport Express) works well with music, but won't work with any video.

I have an ATV2 and Airport Express connected to speakers all connected to the same network. It all works with music, but won't work with any video audio. In my ATV's settings I've selected my AirPort Express speakers. It works for music, why not everything else? Is there a fix or work around?

Netflix is first on that list...What I mean is, if there is a feature that allows for a wireless audio connection to the Apple TV, why wouldn't the developer allow it. To keep me from enjoying a more convient connection? I can have the same listening experience on a wired connection...

  • Airport express 802.11 solid green but not working

My airport express has been working for several months but will not now.
I bought it to extend our internet to the upstairs as it was too far from out
    internet location.
I have restarted it and moved to different outlets upstairs, but it will not work.
It goes through all the proper color changes and is solid green now. I can stand next
to it and there is no connection.

Did you happen to firmware update the main router?? That seems to cause the issue. Or even the express will cause it.. there is a new firmware just hit the web.. 7.6.4 so if you vaguely remember doing it .. or see the main router is now running 7.6.4.. that is why.
Reset everything to factory and start over.. that is the best way to get things running again.

Even if the update didn't go through.. still do the factory reset and reconfigure.. it will all come good.

  • My A1084 airport express worked flawlessly with leopard, not with lion

I have a late 2006 iMac with an intel processor.
it was using leopard and I got an airport express a1084 (older model) and it was working flawlessly. I use it solely to play music from my iMac or iPod on my stereo wirelessly using a linksys e2500 wireless N dual band
    Compatible with 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g standards
I recently was strong armed by apple to upgrade to lion since we use the mac mail program and it was being ditched with the integration of iCloud.
so I ponied up and bought snow leopard, so I could install it and then down load lion from the app store.
    I HATE lion.
almost all of the programs I bought previously no longer work, including my 1 month old network wired printer.
If I don't plug the printer in to the mac, I can't scan to the iMac.
but anyway, my airport express is the issue I am looking for help with.
    This airport goes offline constantly
sometimes it flashes a yellow light, sometimes it has a solid yellow light.
sometimes it works for a week, sometimes for 1 hour.
I have re-set it up many times always with teh same result...until I plug it into a network cable, the iMac can't find it.
si I plug it in and get it working and then move it to the stereo and it will sometimes work for a little while, then no more.
have to set it up again.
is this yet another compatibility issue with LION or is the airport dying?
thank you for any light you can shed on this subject.

I have the exact same problem.

  • Airport Express works fine with iBook but isn't seen by Dell laptop

I have an Airport Express connected to the internet which is automatically recognized by my iBook & works fine. My roomate has a dell laptop running Windows XP and it doesn't recognize the network. In other words usually when the wireless card recognizes a network it pops up in the taskbar and it isn't with the airport. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

At first we could plug the Dell in directly but that was before setting up the AX. Now that the AX works the Dell cannnot connect even wired. (It says that it's connected but it cannot find server when you try to open a webpage). Could this be a problem that the moden cannot go between Mac & windows?
Most modems tend to "remember" the last device connected to it, so it's important to do a complete power-down/power-up when switching devices. It's possible that your modem did this when you attempted to connect the PC directly. My purpose of having you connect the PC directly was to verify that it can access the Internet with a wired connection and that it's wireless setting needs to be troubleshot further.
The power recycle process should be something like the following:
    - Power-off the modem & AX; If possible, leave the modem off overnight.
    - Power-on the modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AX; Wait at least 5 minutes.

  • Airport Express streams Airplay from iMac but not from Windows 7 PC

I have a wireless network set up using a Linksys WRT45G2 v1 router. There is one iMac running Snow Leopard, one laptop running 32 bit Windows 7 Ultimate and one desktop running 64 bit Windows 7 Ultimate. The router is set to WPA2 Personal TKIP+AES security. The Airport Express is set to WPA2 Personal. Its wireless mode is "join a wireless network." It is running firmware version 6.3. The iMac and the laptop are running iTunes 9 and the desktop is running iTunes 10.
Up until recently I was able to stream music from the iMac and the desktop but not the laptop to remote speakers using airtunes via the airport express. Then the video processor in my desktop PC failed and in the course of diagnostic testing I had to reinstall the OS. After replacing the video card and reinstalling the OS, I tried to reconnect Airport Express to iTunes on the desktop PC but Airport Utility could not find the Airport Express. I returned the Airport Express to factory settings and tried again. The PC still did not recognize the Airport Express. I couldn't use the PC to reconfigure the Airport Express, but the iMac did see it so I reconfigured the Airport Express using the iMac. Now I can stream music using Airport Express from the iMac ONLY.
When I use the Airport Utility to scan on the desktop or the laptop PCs it does not see the Airport Express. I can, however, see the Airport Express and read its configuration using Airport Utility on both PCs by using "configure other..." under the File tab (i.e. by typing in the IP number and password for the Airport Express.) Even though I can read the configuration and save it, iTunes does not recognize any remote speakers and I cannot stream music from either PC.
I have tried turning off ALL wireless security as well as all firewalls. I also tried both iTunes 9 and iTunes 10 on the desktop. Nothing makes any difference.
Before I could at least stream from desktop even though I had never been able to get the laptop to stream.
Can anyone suggest a way to get Airtunes (Airplay) to work from my PCs?

I have had the same issue. Airplay working with all devices apart from one windows 7 (the actual media server) and have spent over a week trying to resolve it.
    This worked for me.
Turn off windows firewall and in my instance macafee. Be warned while macafee says that it's off there are services running all the time.
You will need to open macafee settings and turn off access protection first
Then search services from start bar
Open services and filter by manufacturer
    Stoop all macafee services
    Right click the start bar
    Open task manager
    Stop all macafee processes
Try your airport utility you should now see your express
If you can you will see your icon in iTunes
This pores that it's likely to be a macafee issues. Of course you do not want to leave the firewall off so I installed macafee and installed a fresh copy turning both the windows and macafee firewall on with no resultant issues
    Hope this helps

  • Airport Express works fine with non-Apple products???

I've owned my Airport Express for 2 years now and never a problem until this morning.  Now, the airport express is powered on, green light and all, connected to cable modem, but my Early 2008 Macbook Pro and iPhone 4 will not connect to it.  Funny though, because it shows up in my list of networks on both devices.  When I try to select it from the list (of course it used to connect automatically, now it doesn't connect at all), neither the MBP nor the iPhone can establish a connection with it.  Sometimes the iPhone asks for a password, even though the password hasn't changed and it is stored in the device.  It should also be noted that both the iPhone 4 and MBP can still see and connect to my neighbors' wireless routers within range.
Now for the really weird part: the Airport Express still connects to and performs at 100% with other devices, including 1) my Dell running Windows Vista, 2) my XBox 360, 3) HTC Thunderbolt phone, and 4) a Sony Blu Ray player with wireless internet capabilities.  I have power cycled all of the equipment at least 5 times, and all of the non-Apple devices continue to connect to the Airport Express just fine, while the iPhone 4 and MBP cannot connect.  I have even installed Airport Utility on the Dell and did a full factory reset of the Airport Express, but that didn't fix the problem either.
    What is going on here?

At first we could plug the Dell in directly but that was before setting up the AX. Now that the AX works the Dell cannnot connect even wired. • Popup windows work great in IE but not in FireFox

I'm sorry if some of you helpful folks are tired of seeing my questions, but...
I have a page with thumbnails (which float correctly thanks to Altruistic Grandpa) and clicking on each thumbnail opens a new window with a larger version of the photo and some text. It works great in IE - the window opens and closes like it should - but in FireFox it creates a second browser window that has to be manually closed in order to return to the index page.
    Any suggestions?

    Thank you, Nancy.
Not only did that solve the FireFox problem, it also fixed a minor glitch when previewing in IE.

  • Express works for 2 laptops but not imac

Hi - I have Airport Express connected to Motorola cable modem. I have two macbooks both connecting to internet via Airport Express fine. But my iMac doesn't. iMac reports that AirPort is connected to xxx Network and has IP address 10.0.1.3 - the two macbooks show similar though last digit on IP is .2 and .4
I have tried 'assist me' etc to no avail. Have rebooted iMac, turned AirPort on and off etc but no joy. Any suggestions what to try next

In the Network panel of System Preferences on the iMac and one of the MacBooks, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, then select the "TCP/IP" tab. Compare the values you see for "Subnet Mask" and "Router". In the "DNS" tab compare the values for "DNS Servers". Any differences could explain why the connection is failing, but not necessarily explain why the values are different.
You might try resetting your connection settings on the iMac using the steps listed in this message:

They're not guaranteed to solve the problem, but they'll only take you a minute or so to try.

  • Window Arrange New Window for (Document name) is not creating a floating document? It works on my PC, but not my Mac (Mavericks).

So I know this command is supposed to create that document in a new window and have it float ontop of the original document. It (the new window for the document) is supposed to stay in front of anything on the application frame, like the UI does. But on my mac it keeps going into the background when I click onto a different document. I don't know why it does that. This command works fine on my PC.

  • Bought New Extreme, works great with Macs but can't get PC to connect

I just bought a new Airport Extreme this weekend. As promised it was a breeze to set up and things were working well until I tried to connect my TIVO and my work laptop (Windows) to the network I set up. I can't get either to connect to either the base network or the guest network with any level of security set on it. My only success has been to configure the Guest Network without security on it (but I don't like that idea).
    Please help.

I don't see "Equivalent Network Password" as a selection on the Base Network screen (or any of them for that matter).
Isn't this the password for my base station and not the wireless network? Maybe that is my problem. I am trying to connect to the network and not the Base Station? I am getting confused. What I really need to do is connect my work laptop (Windows based machine) and my TIVO to the wireless network I've created (Radio Mode selected to Automatic, Channel Selection to Automatic, Security set to WPA/WPA2 Personal).

  • AirPort Express Sees Neighbor's Network But Not Mine!

    Hi everyone!
I’m a complete newbie to wireless networking but expected my AE to “just work.” It doesn’t, so far.
I plugged-in my cable ethernet cable and USB printer cable to the AE. I then plugged the AE into the electrical socket. Got a green light.
After multiple attempts and even performing a “factory default reset,” the AirPort Utility scan will NOT recognize the AE. Am I correct in thinking that it should?
In Network in System Preferences, I can connect to my neighbor’s wireless network but when I create a new network, all I get is a green AE light and the note that “AirPort has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet.”
So, I have no wireless Internet connection. The cable internet connection (cable ethernet direct to the iMac) is working fine.
I’ve read in other discussions that a problem may exist in using AE and 10.5.6. Yes? No?
Anyway, if some kind soul would help me figure out what’s going on and how to get AirPort Utility to recognize my AE, I would be eternally grateful!
Please advise and don’t hesitate to point out my errors in trying to set up my AE. I need to learn and so do others.
    Sincerely,
    flyboy01

Welcome to the discussions forum Andy.
After multiple attempts and even performing a “factory default reset,” the AirPort Utility scan will NOT recognize the AE. Am I correct in thinking that it should?
Yes. But you have to select its network in your Airport menulet - after the reset it will appear as "Apple Network xxxxxx" where xxxxxx are the last three bytes of its MAC address. If you're connected to your neighbor's network while running Airport Utility, it won't see your Express.
Assuming you've done this already and AU still doesn't see your Express, read on.
Sometimes cable modems get confused when you connect different devices to it. Reset your cable modem (power it down for a while). Remove the Ethernet cable from your iMac and leave it removed. Perform another "hard reset" of your Express then connect it to the cable modem. Power up the cable modem.
Does Airport Utility see the Express now?
Yes: Answer the setup questions in Airport Utility and you're done.
No: I'd wonder if your cable modem still hasn't been properly reset. Try leaving it powered off for the better part of an hour. While it's cooling look for a reset button and try to find documentation addressing how to reset it. Also, reset your Express again. Couldn't hurt.
Still not working? Gnash teeth for a while and curse the gods of wireless. Then, create a new, temporary user account on your iMac. Log out of your account and log in under the new account. Any changes?
Still not working? Post back because someone will happily point out that both of us missed something obvious.

  • Airport extreme working on some devices but not others

All of a sudden airport extreme has stopped working on some of our devices.  within our family we have an old macbook pro running tiger, a 2nd gen macbook air running snow leopord, a black macbook running lion, a mac mini running lion, two iphone 4s and an iphone 3g.  the wireless only works on the two computers running lion.  nobody has changed any of the settings on the airport extreme.  it is running the latest version and has been working fine up until a couple of days ago.  i have reset the modem and router several times each but nothing has helped.  when we try to connect the iphones to the wireless they say unable to join network and the computers running snow leopord or older say there was a problem connecting to the network or something similar to that.  any help would be appreciated!

I know that you have reset both the modem and AirPort already, but I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
(OPTIONAL, but recommended) While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.
