Airport Extr. Vers 4 - w/ kernel panic issue?
Hi All --
hoping someone can shed some light on a kernel panic/Airport issue.
Just received my MBP back from repair shop - with a newly installed Vers. 4 Airport Extreme.
But its toast.
Airport works for about five minutes and either switches itself off (to blank icon - not greyed) and i need a restart, or the machine goes into kernel panic - freezing the machine & black curtain falling.....
I will be on the blower first thing in the morning, but am curious if anyone here can translate some error/kernel messages??
I can see some sort of driver info coming up but not sure what this means.... except for returning the MBP for another week of reparing......(I have re-set SMC, re-installed 10.5.2 dvd, Updated to 10.5.6, re-installed/downgraded to my old system 10.5.3, but no joy)
thanks in adv. for any info
John.

New Kernel Panic Issue (Followed Your Advice)
I posted a thread a few months back about a friend who is having a persistent kernel panic issue. Some of you got back to me with some consistent advice- boot off the install disk, run a diagnostic. I haven't seen the computer since, but recently my friend took a job and left his computer here for me to see if I can fix it.
I popped the install disk in and started the computer holding the "d" key as instructed. I am getting something I have never seen- a constant repeating:
"! OUCH !!! : mshdlr loc zero not zero ! 00007007000000000h @:eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh"
This just repeats itself up the screen, over and over. Eventually, the hardware test box came up. I hit next, it started all over.
This is a 20" Intel iMac running Tiger 4.11. HELP ***?!?!?!iCrane128:
can this be because I am using my gray install disk from my 17' Intel iMac on his 20" Intel iMac?
It can, indeed. Do you have the original disks for the computer you are testing?

Airport Memory Leak? (same thing as the kernel panic issue?)
This is what I got on my activity monitor after installing the software update for iTunes, Quicktime and Server Admin Tools.
http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/2959/screenshot1bw7.png
I use to get this problem every now and then but a reboot would fix it.
I've rebooted several times, logged off/logged on, turned the airport off/on, repaired permissions.
It hasn't crashed my computer but I know this isn't normal.
Is this the same kind of thing as the big kernel panic thread?
I know the software update probably didn't have anything to do w/ it.
It's been working w/o a hitch (pretty much) until today.
What should/can I do?
Thanks.I'm getting the exact same thing... the wierd thing is if I turn wireless off and then on again, that process dies by itself and doesn't show up for a while afterwards.

Kernel Panic Issue - mid 2010 MacBook Pro
I need some help with this kernel panic situation I'm experiencing. The number of panics have progressively gotten worse in the past couple months, and had increased to a panic about every half hour.
Today I went to see the Apple Geniuses and they did a complete erase of my hard drive and reinstall of OSx 10.6.8. I have yet to add any new programs since thehard drive wipe. I was actually trying to download Adobe CS6 dmg when my computer had a kernel panic and forced me to shutdown. (I was also running Safari when that happened.)
I was assured by the Apple Genius (on this visit and the one a couple months ago) that there is nothing wrong with any of my hardware. My machine has also passed every hardware test I've done. We thought the initial kernel panic situation was due to 3rd party software from X-rite (Color Munki) as that showed up on my reports.
I don't know what the problem is now since my machine has been wiped.
Can anyone here please help?
Here's my panic report:

The Apple Genius ran a full diagnostic of my hardware today. I ran the Apple Hardware Test a couple days ago. Everything says hardware is not the issue. I'm really not sure what is happening since it keeps passing multiple hardware tests and there are no 3rd party software additions. I have read of other people having OSx kernel panics with 10.6.8.
I did update software that Apple recommended when I turned my computer on -- Safety Update and Java. Other than that, I haven't added any other software since my hard drive wipe (since my CS6 wouldn't complete before the kernel panic). -
After upgrade os to 10.6.8 I experience kernel panic issue every time I start my mac
Hello,
I've upgraded my mac to 10.6.8 and have done all software update but everytime I start my machine I've a kernal panic issue that prevent me to do anything else then restart the machine in safe mode.
I've done the check on disk and there is no error.

Please not the issue is not occurring when I run in safe modeUnless you are using an illegal hackintosh, there should not be a VooDooHDA.kext in your /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. That is what is causing the panic.
If you are using a hackintosh rather than a real Mac, then we cannot help you further. -
SATA Kernel Panic Issue?
Hey all,
I had made a post earlier about a seemingly random kernel panic that didn't have a specific task when panicking, and when I posted the error report I got a reply saying that it was a failure of a sata drive or in the controller. I use the OWC Data Doubler in place of my optical drive (have for years and it's worked flawlessly) and when I looked at it after receiving that comment, the connector ribbon that connects it to the logic board was ripped in two spots. I replaced that and still I am having kernel panics.
Can anyone see in the error report below to confirm if it is still a SATA device or controller, and if so, is there a way to find out more information as to whether it is the device or the controller? (or even if it's the 500GB 7200RPM drive in the HDD slot or if it's the SSD Data Doubler in the optical drive slot?

FireWire Device: My Passport 071D, WD, 800mbit_speedSo here's the deal, don't expect SATA III devices to work on the optical port. I just went thru this on both my 2009 and 2012 13" MBP's. The 2009 is SATA II (3Gps) and the 2012 is SATA III (6Gps). A SATA III SSD (OWC 6G) will only connect at 1.5 Gps on the 2009. On the 2012, it actually connects at 6 Gps, but every drive I tried crashed (dropped drives, file errors, kernel panics), including a Samsung 830 and Seagate Momentus XT 750. Out of desperation, I stuck the (slow 500 Gb) Apple HD in, it connects at 3 Gps and works like a champ. Check your System Info on SATA info. If you have a 2009, don't waste your $$$ on high end SSDs or drives. If you have newer, BEWARE, you're likely to have issues with high end SATA III devices. On the bright side both Samsung and OCZ V4 work great on the main drive (450 MB/s read) and boots in 10 seconds!! The optical drive SATA port is a major issue for everyone ( like me ) who buys MBPs because they can trip them out, this is a real nagging issue/obstacle. This is a firmware issue that needs to be addressed by Apple. I'm hoping for a firmware update and that Apple isn't doing this intentionally.

Ok, this is an odd issue that I have been having. I tried to wake up my computer today to find that between today and yesterday, it had a Kernel Panic (Grey Screen of Death), I restarted the computer only to have the Kernel panic again not three minutes after restart. So, I figured it was something wrong with my boot disk (mechanical or software) so I put in Drive Genius 2 to test my boot disk. I booted from the DVD but while I was trying to check the boot disk, DG2 had a kernel panic. So, it must be the RAM, right? I have 6 RAM modules, a 2x1GB matched pair and two 2x2GB matched pairs. So, I pulled out the 2x1 pair and restarted into Drive Genius (not by choice, my computer automatically booted into it) but had a kernel panic again. I put that pair back then removed one of the 2x2 pairs, same result. Removed the last 2x2 pair, same result, kernel panic. I went ahead and booted back into my OS so as to retrieve the error report. Here it is...

Update! Just for kicks I swapped the 2x2GB pair that was in the computer at the time of this report with my other 2x2GB pair. It has been a full 20 minutes now with no Kernel Panic. Now, while this would make me think that one of the modules in the pair I just took out is bad, why did DG2 have a kernel panic with this same configuration??? I am confused... Can someone smarter than me tell me what that error report is saying? Thanks...Apparently, bad RAM. Why DG panicked with that pair out, it might be the other modules are also flaky. Run the Apple Hardware Test program, extended tests, at least twice. If no RAM issues, download and run Rember.

I have been receiving Kernel Panics that have prevented me from using my iMac for several months now - I originally thought the problem was with the harddrive as it would become unavailable in Disk utility as well as in the Recovery Partition. I had taken it to a Genius Bar and they ran diagnostic software and found no issues they reinstalled OS X from their server and this did not solve it. I went back and they suggested I install a new harddrive - did that and it has not resolved the issues...This imac is new as of last july and has not had anywhere close to its harddrive being full etc. So the harddrive is out of the question.
One other thing to note is the only way I can install OS X is from a time machine back-up from my Macbook Pro to gain a somewhat usable iMac or running OS X from an external drive. Any help provided would be very much appreciated!
Here is the system log from the kernel panic - I have no clue how to read this:

Having Kernel Panic issues and need help
So about 6 months ago I had a HD crash, I restored it through disk utility and reloaded from my last time machine backup. Ever since then my computer would turn off randomly and I didn't know why, looked into it a bit more and thought the HD was bad so replaced it with a 500Gb SSD. When I got that I used a HD clone to copy the drive over and the problem still continued. I noticed it was when I would try and do something that might be a little taxing on the system like open a big program or stream something with other things open. All things that might stress the system, but nothing out of the ordinary and never had an issue for the years I had the computer before the crash. I looked into the issue more and have tried to trouble shoot the issue and this is what I have done/found thus far.
~Replaced HD to a SSD HD with no improvement
~Put new SSD in a totally different MCB and the issues still stand
~Reloaded Mavericks on the HD and it is still happening (Had an issue when trying to erase the HD in recovery, Disk Utility said it could unmount the disk when I clicked the drive, but if I clicked that name of the drive indented under neath it worked)
I have included my latest panic log in hopes for some help. The new MacBook Pro that I put my HD in I got second hand and said they were having some issues with it, but it only happened when they upgraded to Yosemite. There was nothing wrong with it previous, so I think I eliminated the possibility of it being a Hardware issue, but not 100% on that. Thanks for the help, Chris

I pulled the SSD out and put it into an external enclosure and was able to fully erase the drive through disk utility. From there I used the bootable disk that came with the computer which put snow leopard on. From there I upgrade through the app store to Mavericks, I used the computer all night with no issues or reboots at all, was finally able to run a Hardware diagnostic with nothing showing up there after the extended test. I am now running Mavericks and am transferring data off my external, but only the essentials such as music and pictures with fresh installs of all applications. Everything was going great... until about 5 min ago. As I was transferring about 250Gb of music I opened a browser and had a kernel panic shutdown. I have included the log, hoping it was just a fluke thing, but don't have any faith at this point

Any fix for the kernel panic issue?
So far, i've had 12 kernel panics. Usually it only happens when I start iTunes or software update. I read in a developer forum it was because of the NVIDIA Graphics card. So, are there any fixes for the kernel panics with Lion?
There is no bluetooth connectivity issue after the recent OS update. There may be a problem with your phone, which may or may not be related to the update. A "common problem" looks like this in the forums:
I haven't seen any threads on BlueTooth with over 1.4 million views and over 12,000 replies, or even any vaguely close. For any problem that someone has there is bound to be someone else amoung 150 million users who have it. That doesn't make it a "common problem."
If you tell us what the problem is specifically and what you have done so far to try to resolve it someone can probably help you. -
Airport crashing and producing a kernel panic.
Hi, I've had many problems when i try to connect through my airport conection to my wifi connection. I used to connect with a ethernet cable since i bought my imac (feb 2011, seldom I use my wifi without a problems) because it was close to the router and i never had this kind of problem. But recently i had to move my computer position and i have to use my airport to be able to connect to internet. but it works maybe 2 or 3 minutes and suddenly it crashes (kernel panic) and i had to reset my mac through the power button. When i connect my ethernet cable it works fine.
I've read something about kernel panic and i try to reinstall my lion and format and install with a clean installation (i though it was a software conflict). But it still crashing, i suspect is my airport internal card is damage.
Yesterday i pass the apple hardware test and it doesn't show me any mistake of my hardware so i am confuse.
What do you thing about this? It could be a software or hardware problem?
I have a 27" iMac, Middle 2010 - MacOs Lion

Kernel Panic issue -- What's com.apple.GeForce got to do with this?
Hi all,
Been experiencing this a lot lately, those dreaded Kernel Panic messages that ask you to restart the computer, complete with the depressing darkened screen in the background. The tech details below. Hope someone at Apple can help too.
What happens that leads up to it? Can't see a pattern, sadly. Sometimes I'm just not doing anything on the iMac, and no applications are running, and it goes into Kernel Panic. Other times I'm using an application, and halfway through, Kernel Panic. No particular application too.
Any ideas? Anybody?

You are having kernel panics as shown in this Apple doc.#106227.
Do everything, in order, in Dr.Smokes Resolving Kernel Panics and don't leave out any steps.
Quote from Dr.Smoke "My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, following the instruction in the order specified, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein"
Here's more at a brody's KP site.

Panic.log and Kernel Panic issues
Can anyone help me out with deciphering this kernel panic log. I've had about 4 KP's in the last couple months. I only have one in my log because I think that is the only one I have had since I did an erase and install. I checked it in for repair at an Apple Store where they ran a high load test on it and found no hardware problems nor could they determine the source of the KP's.
I have plently of disk space and a third party graphics card bought and installed at the Apple Store. The computer was used in a professional creative environment every day, 10 hours a day for a year and a half and was rarely shut down overnight. It was pushed pretty hard, was kept in an area that allowed for dust accumulation and the area below the desk where it was kept had pretty poor air flow. It was probably moved around a bit while running. All a recipe for disaster, but I figure it's better to be up front about it's condition before one were to help me out.
Beside the couple KP's I've had, it will occasionally hang up while switching into a different user while using "Fast User Switching". Aside from distinguishing what this log might mean, I am also curious to what degree a KP can have on further corruption of data. Data corruption concerns me more than the occasional KP that would force me to revert to my last save.
Here is the log file. Any help you can give would be appreciated.

You may find the troubleshooting steps in the section "Troubleshooting a recurring kernel panic" toward the bottom of the article below helpful.
OS X: About kernel panics
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3742
As pointed out in the article, please keep this in mind:
Diagnosing a recurring kernel panic can be difficult. If you would like to avoid this process, or do not know how to perform any of the following steps, consider bringing the Mac to a Genius at an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for assistance. Be sure to ask that, if the drive needs reformatting or replacing, they contact you about escalating your case to a special data recovery service. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).
