Airport Extreem as a Business Router
Does the Aiport Extreem qualify as an adequate router for business application versus other routers marketed as busness class routers?
The AirPort Extreme was designed and functions well as a home router for mom and pop and the kids.
It lacks many of the features of a business class router, but in fairness was never meant to compete in that category.

I have an airport extreem network that works with my two MacBooks and a iMAC. I am having no luck in getting a PC (IBM ThinkPad0 that has the PC airport software to be recognized by the network. Any suggestions?
When you introduced the AirPort Extreme, you had a condition where you have two routers in series. The simpliest solution is to reconfigure the downstream router (in this case the Extreme) as a bridge. This will allow the upstream router to provide the required NAT & DHCP services to all network clients regardless of which router they are connected to.
To reconfigure the Extreme as a bridge, you will use the AirPort Utility. (Note: I will provide the steps for using AirPort Utility v5.x)
AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup
Internet > Internet Connection tab > Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode) -
Airport Extreeme 5th generation, firmware 7.6.4 crashing several times a day (no interference)
Call me unlucky, but I'm here just for solving AirPort Extreeme... issue. Here is my setup:
- My IPhone mic stopped working recently, so I decide to use it as wireless survellance cam connected with Airport on 2.4Ghz
- I also own Retina laptop mid 2012 (with ghosting screen connected to 27" Thunderbold with wierd spots on matrix which appeared 6 month after purchase) and laptop by the way connected on 5Ghz
- I have some generic 3Tb usb drive connected to AirPort Extreeme...
- And some generic laptop connected on 2.4Ghz which does pretty much nothing
- (The only device I never had issue with is IPad 2 but it's not connected)
So, an app on laptop takes a snapshot from camera every 15 seconds and it's 500kb tops, so it goes from IPhone to Extreeme... to Laptop and then from Laptop to Extreeme... connected harddrive. What happens is Extreeme... reboots several times a day and sometimes it hangs after reboot which makes me climb to manualy unplug from power... any suggestions?
P.S. Support is my last bet choosing Apple products in a future, I never asked for it before this is the very first time, Im busy person, but hey for $6000 I spend on Apple products should I expect some quality, reasonable question isn't it?

Max.Unfortunately there are some products that have issues.. but you have had a really bad trot. I think if it was me I would be screaming my head off. Have you rung Apple and got some progress in getting these things looked at. The Thunderbolt display to begin with.. take it to the genius and let them check it.. I am not sure if the phone is out of warranty but apple can be generous at times.. especially if you have $6000 of faulty products.
For your particular problem with the Extreme, I would simply downgrade to 7.6.1 firmware.. the latest firmware does not always work the greatest. And do a factory reset after that. Setup again with all names, short, 2-20 characters, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. I would also lock down as much of the stuff that is on auto as possible. So use a different name for 5ghz.. lock the channels manually. You can try several, 11, 6, 1 at least for 2.4ghz.. and around 40 and around 150 for 5ghz.
Sometimes locking the mode to slower speed, just to see if that helps is worth it. -
Airport Extreem behavior with legacy devices?
I have all Wireless n devices (iPad, iPod Touch, Macbook Air, etc.)
Has anyone experienced if the new Airport Extreem shows any improvement in behavior over the old version?

-MikeThe new Extreme will not really provide significant improvement with normal "n" devices, but the signal range will likely be a bit better on the new Extreme mostly in part due to an improved antenna design.
I would estimate the range improvement to be 5-10% as a result of some informal tests that I've done with the product here. No way to predict what your results might be, however.
If you are in the market for a new router, then the new AirPort is probably worth a look, particularly if you plan to add 802.11ac computers in the next few years. -
Is there a way to turn the wireless capabilities off on an AirPort Express? I have an AirPort Extreme as my main router and use the express to just extend it. I only really want to you use the express for hard ethernet connections. For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb. These terrible download speed really only affects the iPhones as my MacBook Pro usually gets the good speed no matter where it is. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my phone because if I am in the part of the house that uses just the extreme the download speeds on the iphone goes up to 50-75mb. As a note I have an AirPort Extreme on the top floor of my house (second floor) that's where my modem is located. On the first floor that's where one airport express is located. I also have another airport express in the basement that is accessed by my landlord. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be helpful.

It appears that your networking goals with the AirPort Express is to use it as a wireless Ethernet bridge instead of using it to extend the wireless range of your AirPort Extreme. The latter requires that the Express Wi-Fi radios be enabled.
If you intended to use the Express as a wireless bridge, you just need to reconfigure it to "Join a wireless" network instead of "Extend a wireless network."
For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb.
In an extended network, the placement of the extending base station is critical as it can only extend the wireless network at the bandwidth at which it receives it.

I am using SURPLUSMETER I am also using Apple Airport Time Capsule as my Router that is connected to my Satellite dish Internet Modem ... Now on the Surplusmeter I have the option for PPP Modem . Ethernet Port , Airport , Network Card , & Adaptor .
Which one can I use properly to monitor all the wireless Devices in my housActually, none of the options will do what you are looking for it to do. That is because, this application only monitors the traffic from the device it is hosted on. That would also mean that you would have to run a copy on each computer that will access the Internet on your network; note their individual usages, and then, combine them to get an idea of the total usage.
However, if you are only interested in the amount of Wi-Fi traffic that only your computer is seeing, then the "AirPort Network Card" option would be the correct choice. -
Desktop PC with Airport Express connected to another router
Hi, I'm new to the wireless world. I have an exsisting wired network with wired connections. The router is a Belkin which also does wireless. I have another desktop computer which I cannot get wires run to so easily. My idea is to use my Airport express's ethernet port for this desktop and wirelessly connect the Airport express to the main router for internet services. Is this possible?

SteveConfigure the Express as a bridge: join the wireless network, and set "connection sharing" to "off (bridge mode)". Under the Wireless tab, see if there's a box labeled "allow Ethernet clients".
If there is, check the box.
The "n" model Expresses that are capable of this were first sold in March, 2008. Earlier "b/g" only ones may be capable of this too; I just never had one so that's the reason for the qualifier. -
Will adding AirPort Extreme to my Fios router improve reception on tv located about 50 feet away..have new top of the line samsung smart tv and it drops signal every other day. When trying to watch netflix or amazon it transmits in SD only says bandwidth is not high enough for Hd. My ipad laptops and iphone work fine in this room. Any help will be appreciated or am I better off with a booster.
The AirPort Extreme will not be able to wirelessly "boost" or "repeat" the wireless signal from the Fios router, since It will only work with another Apple router for that feature.
So, if you plan to extend or repeat the FIos wireless signal, you should use a product by the same manufacturer as the Fios router....or possibly a "universal" repeater from a company like Netgear.
Make sure that you understand the store's return policy before you buy any kind of extender or repeater.....since you cannot know if the product will help until you try it out in your home.
The TV really needs a wired Ethernet connection from the Fios router if at all possible. -

If I'm understanding right your need and your computer has wired access to your network/router, all you have to do is give your AX wireless or wired access to your network too.
Wired should be easier. Just use a network cable to connect to the router. Power up the AX and look for it on AirPort Utility, do so without changing any of your computer settings. If it's visible, then on iTunes your AX should be visible on the AirPlay icon at the bottom-right corner.
If you want to connect your AX to your router wirelessly I would suggest to reset your AX settings by pressing and holding for a few secs the reset button next to all the ports. Once it is reset, using your computer try to look for the wireless network it'll be creating, it should be something like Apple Network 4341eb. Join that network and, using the AirPort Utility, configure your AX as a network client. Go to Wireless > Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network.
Select your router wireless network from the drop-down menu, select the appropriate security and type in your password. Click update.
It'll restart and automatically join your network. Have your computer join back your router network and, again, in iTunes bottom right you should be able to see the AX speakers.

Airport Express Networking with Existing Router + ONT
I have a TELDAT Wifi router connected to an ONT, both provided by my ISP. The TELDAT router does not perform very well, I have many issues with airplay, itunes home sharing and even with my apple TV. I read many forums and came to the preliminary conclusion that the problem may be the TELDAT router.I was looking to replace the provided router with another one, however It seems that this router use VLAN tags to connect to the ONT via its WAN port so apparently not all routers support this.
I have checked a lot of reviews and forums and it seems that Airport Express was the right choice in order to make all Apple services to work seamlessly. I then purchased an airport express; however I'm not really sure what is the most recomendable network configuration in order for the Airport Express to switch all data between my connected devices and only use WAN port for accesing the internet. It need to be taken into account that the TELDAT router cannot be replaced by Airport Express due to the VLAN tagging thing.
My current configuration:
Currently I have all my iDevices (ipad, iphone, apple TV, Mac Mini and Philips Airplay Speakers) and one DLINK camera connected via WIFI to the TELDAT router. The TELDAT router provides 4 ethernet ports, so I have my Samsung Smart TV connected to ethernet port 1 and another DLINK camera connected to ethernet port 2.
What i want:
First I would turn TELDAT Wifi off, so only the Airport Express will provide wireless connectivity. In addition I'd like all my iDevices connections/services between them to be handled by the Airport Express, so the TELDAT router does not have any influence in the apple services perfromance. On the other hand I need two ethernet LAN ports and the airport express only have one, so, I'll connect my Samsung TV to this port and dlink camera will now be connected via Wifi to the Airport Express.
I read that for he configuration I want I will need to configure the Airport Express in "bridge mode"; however my main worry is that in this mode, all communications between my iDevices will go to the TELDAT router and then back to the Airport Express, affecting this way the performance and leaving in the same place as before.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.Probably, unless the Netgear has been set up in some non-standard way.
But, every manufacturer seems to do something a bit different with their wireless, so a device from one manufacturer will not always be compatible with a device from another manufacturer when you try to connect using wireless.
It should work. But, should work is not the same as saying it will work. It might be a good idea to understand the store's return policy just in case things don't work out as well as expected. -
I have an AirPort Extreme and a linksys router. What is the best way to get 6-8 wired connections with ac speeds?
Appreciate your assistance.The answer depends on whether the AirPort Extreme is your main router....or...the Linksys device is your main router.
In either case, the two devices must connect together using a wired Ethernet connection using CAT5e or CAT6 cabling.
Any version of the AirPort Extreme produced within the last 5 years will have Gigabit Ethernet ports. In order to get the same speeds from the Linksys router, it will also need to be Gigabit Ethernet capable.
If you need additional Ethernet ports, you will need to add a Gigabit Ethernet switch to either the AirPort Extreme or Linksys router.
It is assumed that your other devices connecting to the AirPort Extreme and Linksys router will also have Gigabit Ethernet capability.
Not sure why you mention "ac" speeds in your post. This relates to wireless connections, not wired. -
Airport problems after update Airport Extreeme 2008-004 V.1
Since when i have installed the update Airport Extreeme 2008-004 V.1 my Airport card is giving me problems. The network seams to go down and if i reset the Airport it restart working for a certain time. I have noted that the problem apears most of the times when Time Machine starts the backup on the Capsule (but this is not 100% sure).
I am quite sure the problem is the update because i never had this before.

If yes to the above, you may wish to try the repair disk option. Run +repair disk+ from your software install DVD.

The only way I know of removing AE update is to do an Archive & Install. Then use Software Update to upgrade your OS and software. Stop at the AE upgrade you do not want.

Does Airport Extreem work with Xfinity modem?
The new Xfinity modem worked for about 11/2 weeks with my Airport Extreem to my iMac then it was 1/2 there and not doing all search or browsing on the internet. Comcast could not help on line or the phone. The Xfinity modem has wireless capabilities but when I hook through Airport all is mixed up or not working. Should I use Xfinity wireless or get a new Airport or is there some problem I don't see? Thanks

Just bought an Airport extreem for my windows xp. Need Airport Utility v5.5.3. When I go to apple downloads it comes back page not available, try later. Whats up. Is there another way to get this utility so I can get started?
AirPort Utility 5.5.3 for Windows - Support - Apple works fine for me as well as a test.

Macbook airport extreem and brother printer/scanner DCP-330C
I have macbook airport extreem and brother printer/scanner DCP-330C and everything works fine.
I can print wireless.
The only thing that irritates me is, when I start my macbook I first see a screen with MFL-ProSuite, I quit then a screen with connect with USB, I quit and then I see a small blue screen.
Is there a way to get rid of these things, so I can start directly with the things I want to do.

FrankThat is something that has to do with the brother software. Doesn't have anything to do with the airport base station.
I would try and Contact brother to see about disabling it.
What I think , is probably because the printer is on the airport not the computer so brothers software is getting confused.
See about deleting just the software and not the drivers. That is if you dont need the software.
