Airport Extrem doesn t give internet access to my new windows 7

Hello,
I ve bought an ACER laptop aspire one with windows 7. Its wifi + internet has work fine in airports, hotels and friend s homes, but in my home wiht my Airport Extrem it is impossible to get internet access with wifi ( connection limited indicqted with the yellow triangle ).
The Airport extrem works fine with another mac and others windows XP and vista...using the DHCP.
Ther Airport extrem identify the MAC @ of the aspire one but it seems like DHCP servers doesnt give it an IP@. The log:
Jan 02 00:29:06
Severity:5
Rotated TKIP group key.

Installed unicast TKIP key for supplicant 84:4b:f5:01:49:81
So I tryed to attribute/reserve  a fixed IP@ without succes.
I tryied to install bonjour for windows...add the suffix "local" to the name of the PC...without success....finally I tryed an ipconfig /renew and windows answer is that it the DHCP server didnt reponse. Time out.
Do you have any tip ?
Thank you very much !

Sorry I don't have an answer, but I have the same problem. XP works with my router, but 7 does not. They don't receive the IP address.
Download the very latest driver from the manufacturer of the wireless card.
Make sure you load the airport utility for windows into the computer.. use ethernet to do it.
Intel cards are the worst.. they often have issues.
Remember that windows can move location spontaneously.. it should be home.. not work  not public.
Turn off all the firewalls.. there might be several if you buy a laptop with trial software.
If you continue having issues we need more details of what TC and what firmware it is running.
Change all names in the AEto windows compatible.. never forget Apple names are not going to necessarily work. This includes the AE name and wireless name/s.
Windows names.. short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.. (it is a bit broader than that.. but it is easier to stick to the known working subset) Certainly no spaces in the name and no apostrophe as Apple setups seem to create.
Use fixed wireless channels can also help.. with separate names for 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

  • Connects to Airport extreme but not to internet

Whenever I close my laptop and reopen, I lose internet connection thru the airport extreme and I won't get it back. It seems that I will have connection to the Airport Extreme, but not the internet.
Sometimes what fixes it is turning the airport off and then on again (sometimes multiple times). Usually restarting the computer fixes it (but not always).
What happens is this (viewing Sysprefs/network/airport/network status and "internet connect"): the internet connect will report connecting...then will announce "connected", but show no "time elapsed" at the same time the Net status will read "airport is connected to ..network...with it's own IP address and may or may not be connected to the internet" And I won't be.
Then, when it starts working again (after the abovementioned turning off/on) it will start counting time elapsed, then in Net Status it will say "airport connected to ..network. you are connected to the internet via airport."
Also, whenever I use "internet connect" to turn the airport off, when I turn it back on again I will not have internet access, just the messages I list above. The "strenth meter" will say my signal is good (which it should be) and it says I am connected but doesn't show "elapsed time" nor will I have actual internet access.
Again, restarting the computer will usually work (less often, logging out then back in).
Another strange symptom-- When I hit the "disconnect" button under the airport section of "internet connect" it disconnects, then reconnects immediately. When I hit the disconnect button w/ in the Sysprefs/network/airport...etc, it does nothing but bring to the front window the "internet connect" window. So the only way to "disconnect" is to turn off the airport (which results in the above problem).
Side note--I am in the habit of turning off the airport (not the base, but from the computer) when I don't plan on using it for security-- am I being excessively paranoid? I do have my firewall in operation. Should I just leave it (being the airport) on all the time (in your humble opinion?
Sorry if this makes no sense or rambles, it is now 5:30 am and She Who Must Be Obeyed will be getting up in about an hour wanting to know if I fixed the computer yet. I'm tired.
    Thank you in advance.

After a recent iTunes update attempt iTunes no longer functions and the airport extreme base station is not accessable on our computer.  We still have wifi but cannot access the base station software.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the response. I tried that approach this evening and it didn't work for me. (Technically it worked for me, when I was hardwired into my base station, but would not work for me wirelessly, which is my main issue.)
Again, using the approach you recommended works only if I have my ethernet cable attached to the LAN port so my computer is communicating directly to the base station through the hard wire. I am able to scan for my base station and make setting adjustments normally this way too.
As soon as I disconnect from the LAN port and try to go wireless is where I run into problems. The Base Station's wireless network I created is available to choose in the top right corner of the monitor with all of the other available wireless devices/networks -- but the network I created does not have access to the internet. I am also unable to configure my Base Station wirelessly. When my Airport Utility tries to scan for the Base Station and Network, it cannot find any Apple Wireless Device. It's like the Wireless Network in my base station is not sending out a signal.
Is there a way to resolve this issue?

  • How do I connect Airport Extreme to U-verse Internet Gateway: Motorola Model NVG510

I tried to set up a new network with the Airport Extreme and get no Internet connectivity from the AT&T gateway.  The Extreme network sets up fine and I can access it from all my devices, but no Internet.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Mick Jones

It will only take a minute to check the Ethernet cable. Just connect it from a LAN <-> port on the Uverse gateway to  the Ethernet port on a computer. Turn off the wireless on the computer and see if you can get a good Internet connection that way.
If you can, great. You cannot, then you either have a bad Ethernet cable or the port on the gateway may not be working correctly.
Power up the AirPort Extreme for a few minutes
Then, hold in the reset button on the AirPort Extreme for 10-12 seconds and release
Allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Connect the Ethernet cable from a LAN <-> port on the Uverse gateway to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click on Other WiFi Devices
    Click AirPort Extreme
The utility will open up automatically, take a minute to analyze things, then suggest that the AirPort will be configured to create a new network.  The window will look like the example below, except that you will see an AirPort Extreme instead of an AirPort Express.
Network Name......type in a short, simple name that you want to call your wireless network
Base Station Name.....type in a short, simple name that you want to use to identify the AirPort Extreme
Password......type in a password that will be used for both the Base Station and Wireless Network
    Verify the password
    Click Next
You should have a green light on the AirPort Extreme in a minute or two, and you should be able to log on to the new network and get an Internet connection.

  • Wifi signal from Airport Extreme doesn't reach all areas of my house.  Is there a way to extend it without sacrificing bandwidth?  Airport Extreme version 7.6.1

The wifi signal from my Airport Extreme doesn't reach all areas of my house.  Is there a way to extend it without sacrificing bandwidth?  I have an Airport Extreme running version 7.6.1.

You will need to add another device like an AirPort Extreme to provide additional wireless coverage in the house.
The only way to preserve bandwidth on a network would be to connect the two AirPort Extremes using an Ethernet cable connection.
While you can "extend" using wireless only, typically half of the bandwidth on the network is sacrificed when you do this.

  • Airport extreme doesn't see my hard drive (free agent 500Gb)

airport extreme doesn't see my hard drive (free agent 500Gb)

A few things to check are:
Make sure that the drive is formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or FAT32. The normal Windows format of NTFS will not work.
The USB port at the AirPort Exteme is under powered. You almost always need to use a powered USB hub with a drive at this port, even if the drive has its own power supply.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't recognize USB Drive

I have a USB external drive that is working fine when attached to my iMac but my airport extreme doesn't see it at all. I have tried resetting the power to both devices.
    AEBS version 7.2.1
Does the drive have to be formated a certain way for it to work? Right now it is "Mac OS Extended" I have also had it formatted as OS Extended (Journaled). Neither are working.

  • Help setting up using my airport extreme to share my internet connection

I want to use my built-in airport extreme to share my internet connection with my PS3. I have a verizon aircard and have read on the internet that this can be done (but not necessarily with airport). I turned on internet sharing with airport and my ps3 reads my connection and obtains my ip address, but then it says could not connect to internet due to DNS server error.
Could someone run me down the process step-by-step so I can see what I'm doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
P.S. I have a iMac running on leopard if that matters.

ll959reds, Welcome to the discussion area!
Unfortunately the Internet Sharing provided by OS X does not provide nearly the configuration possibilities as even a very inexpensive wireless router.
Also if the firewall is enabled on the iMac, it applies equally to all ports including the AirPort (wireless) connection to the PS3. Therefore the firewall will block many of the requests from the PS3. To solve this issues, you would either need to disable the iMac's firewall or configure the iMac's firewall to allow connections via the AirPort side.
A much simpler solution is to use a wireless router instead of your iMac to provide the connection for the PS3.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't cover (large) house. Is it possible to configure a "repeater" of some type?

Airport Extreme doesn't cover all of my (large) house. Is it possible to configure some sort of repeater?

Ideally, you would locate another AirPort Extreme, or possibly an AirPort Express in the central portion of the area that needs more wireless coverage and then connect back to your "main" AirPort Extreme using a wired Ethernet connection.
This type of setup provides the best performance for the network while allowing you to place the extending device exactly where it is needed.
Alternately, you may be able to locate another AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express at an approximate mid-point between your "main" AirPort Extreme and the area that needs more coverage and connect the remote device using wireless only to "extend a wireless network".
As you might imagine, the "extending" device can only extend or repeat the quality of signal that it receives, so establishing a line-of-sight relationship between the main and extending device would be ideal. Otherwise, you may be able to get away with a wall or two or a ceiling in the signal path, but this is always somewhat an "iffy" proposition because it is just not possible to accurately predict wireless performance in advance.

  • New Airport Extreme, Green Light,  No Internet

Trying to get wifi connection so my mom can use her new ipad I bought her for Christmas and so guests can use wifi when they visit. I connected this new airport extreme 802.11n Wi_Fi to their comcast modem. After connecting get green light on airport extreme but now no internet connection on mac desktop computer. Have tried resetting modem, powering off airport and computer... still no internet. Internet works fine using comcast modem but does not connect to internet at all with airport extreme. Help. Extremely frustrated and ready to return this airport extreme.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
It's likely not the AirPort Extreme that is causing your issue. It is the cable modem.
Perhaps you were not aware that a cable modem must be completely reset whenever there is a change in the device that the modem is connected to? Your ISP should have made this clear to you. A good reset often takes 30 minutes or more.
Push the reset button on the modem
Power off the modem for 30 minutes
Pull the battery if it's easily accessible
Power down the AirPort Extreme and your computers
After the wait period, power up the modem first and let it run for 3-4 minutes by itself.
Then power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Then power up your other devices the same way
Please post back on your results.

  • Just purchased Airport Extreme ac and lost internet connection 3X. Reset to factory settings and worked for 2 days then lost connection and remedied by unplugging power supply. Anyone else having problems?

Just purchased Airport Extreme ac and lost internet connection 3X in less than one week. Fisrt time, reset to factory settings and fixed problem. Has occurred 2 additional times and connection re-established by unplugging AP extreme. Anyone else having these problems?  Do I have a bad router?  Thanks.

I definitely think this is a Mavericks issue.  My iMac running Mavericks is the ONLY system in the house that drops the network randomly while all other systems never lose the network.  No idea how to resolve this, but here is the workaround I'm posting:
I've had the 'network drop' issue with my Airport Extreme for the last 2 months.  It reconnects when I pull the ethernet cable and plug it back in.  I've tried downgrading the AE firmware, resetting to factory, etc.  Nothing worked.  I finally threw in the towel and created a script that monitors my network connectivity and restarts my interface if it senses it has dropped:
    #!/bin/ksh
    while true
    do
      yup=`ping -c1 -t2 www.google.com|grep from`
      if [[ -n $yup ]]
         then echo "Internet is connected!"
      else
ifconfig en0 down; ifconfig en0 up
            echo "Down at `date +%m%d%Y%H%M%S`">>./dropped.out
      fi
      sleep 5
    clear
    done
I know its a workaround, but its saving me the headache of constantly pulling my cable and putting it back in!
    Good luck!

  • Airport extreme blinking amber light error when connecting to new modem

I have just bought and installed a new modem gateway.  It is an Arris TG852G DOC 3.0 model with a built in WiFi router.
After connecting it and activating it through Comcast, I reset, then reconnected my airport extreme MD0331LL/A Model No. A1408 to the new Arris
modem, I am getting blinking amber lights on the base station.  I have internet connectivity, but I am still getting an amber light.  My wireless devices (ipad and iphones) all see the old network name and id and seem to work just fine.
When I scanned for my airport base station in my airport utility (version 5.6.1)  to try to resolve the error message I get
a message stating that the Airport Utility is not detecting any airport devices.
I cannot reset the default settings as these buttons do not work within the Airport Utility.
I suspect interference between the built in router in the Arris and I understand I need to operate it in bridge mode.  Can you please help me fix this.
The COMCAST people are extremely unhelpful, and stated that this is not their problem but a problem with my router
as they have provifded me  internet connectivity through the modem and the issue is my problem.

Try connecting an Ethernet cable from your computer directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if AirPort Utility can detect the AirPort Extreme that way.
If yes, click on the AirPort Extreme and then click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)
A window will open to explain why the amber light is blinking
If the message indicates that you need to configure the AirPort in Bridge Mode......
Click the Internet icon at the top of the window
Click the Internet Connection tab just below
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the lower right of the window to save the new setting and restart the AirPort Extreme
You can disconnect the Ethernet cable that you were using to configure the AirPort Extreme now
It would be a good idea to power off both the Arris gateway and the AirPort Extreme now
    Wait a minute
Start the Arris first, and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    You should be all set

  • I have a 2008 airport extreme, will I get greater range with the new version?

I have a 2008 airport extreme, will I get greater range with the new version of the airport extreme?

I have had both models, and frankly notice little if any difference in range, likely because the broadcast power of wireless routers is set by law, and just about every router is running at 100%.
The dual band feature of the newer model will allow devices that are in close proximity to connect using the 5 GHz band, which runs 2-3 times faster than the 2.4 GHz band.
If you need greater range, you will likely do better by adding something like an AirPort Express to "extend" the wireless signal for greater reach.....rather than simply replacing one AirPort Extreme with another.
Another option....if you opt for the new AirPort Extreme....would be to use it as your "main" base station and use the older Extreme to "extend" the wireless signal.
