Airport extreme 2008-003

Good evening (from Italy). I'm looking for a solution to remove the update in the subject. I need to work with my MBP and network it's totally blown up.
I cannot rollback with a backup in this case, 'cause too many data of my work allover hdd are changed, since I did the update, and I don't know if I can find them all, for a manual backup. I used just the software upgrade tool belivin' that updates were always sure... , but I was wrong.
Please help. And thanks in advance.

Make sure you do these in order (know you have already tried, but let's do it again):
1. Repair Permissions - /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app. Start Disk Utility, select your HD and click on Repair Permissions. When finished, quit Disk Utility and restart.
Open System Profiler/Network/AirPort Card - do you see your card and its details? If no card is showing then you need to take your MBP to an Apple Authorised Service Centre.
If the card is present:
2. Copy the following System Preferences Files to your Desktop (HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration):
- com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
- com.apple.network.identification.plist
- NetworkInterfaces.plist
- preferences.plist
3. Delete the above preference files from HD/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration - you will require your administrator password. Shut down the computer.
4. Safe Mode Startup - hold down the Shift-key at startup until you see the login screen. When logged-in, then go to System Preferences/Network/AirPort - click on the 'Network Name:' roll-button, select 'Join Other Network...', enter 'Network Name and select the security type you are using, and finally, enter your Password and click 'Join'.
5. Click 'Apply', then exit System Preferences and shutdown.
6. Startup normally and check your AirPort preferences.
Your System Preferences will be rebuilt - if everything works OK then delete the preference files you copied to your Desktop.
Did you use Software Update to install 'AirPortExtremeUpdate2008003.dmg', or did you download it and then install. If the latter, try installing the update again after doing a 'Repair Permissions'.

    This morning I installed the airport extreme 2008-004 update. Since then, I have not been able to access the internet when my VPN (Check Point) is active. I can access the internet if I "stop" the VPN. I use a Netgear WNR834M router and I have not had problems between this router and the AirBook before. Even when I am unable to access the internet, it appears that I am connected to the wireless network. I have stopped and started modem, router, and Mac several times, to no avail.
    I had a good deal of trouble with a VPN before, and rather than attempting to fix this, I would like to just uninstall the update and restore what I had before. Is there an easy way to do this?

    If you haven't yet, try these suggestions. They have worked for others.
    *_Slow & Dropped Internet Connection After Airport Update_*
    The suggestions below have recently helped others after a System or Airport update. Consider each topic separately, If one does not resolve your issue, move on to the next one.
    *Reset/Change DNS Settings*
    Launch Airport Utility.
    Select Airport device on left.
    Click "Manual Setup".
    Select "Internet" from the toolbar above.
    What's listed for "DNS Server(s):"? Try putting in these servers from OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click "Update".
    Next, on all Macs affected, launch System Prefs --> Network Prefs.
    Select the service you usually connect with on the left (Airport or Ethernet).
    Then click, "Advanced...".
    Click the "DNS" tab.
    What's listed for "DNS Server(s):"? Usually "10.0.1.1" will be listed first in gray. This refers back to the settings in the Airport Utility.
    Nevertheless, it doesn't hurt to add the DNS servers noted above here as well.
    Click "OK" then click "Apply".
    Finally, reboot your Mac.
    Now see if you have internet access all around.
    *Reset Airport Service*
    Launch System Preferences --> Network Preferences.
    Highlight the Airport Service on the left.
    Click the Action menu (tiny gear button) in the lower left.
    Select "Make Service Inactive".
    Then select "Make Service Active".
    Click "Apply".
    *Delete & Add Airport Service*
    Launch System Preferences --> Network Preferences.
    Highlight the Airport Service on the left.
    Click the “-” button in the lower left to remove the Airport Service.
    Next, click the “+” button and add an Airport Service.
    Click “Apply”.
    Note: Removing the AirPort interface resets your preferred AirPort networks.  You will need to add preferred networks again.
    *Reset Network/Airport Settings*
    1. Go to Macintosh HD --> Library --> Preferences --> SystemConfiguration Folder
    Drag the following files to the desktop:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    com.apple.network.identification.plist
    NetworkInterfaces.plist
    preferences.plist
    Restart your Mac.
    Go System Preferences --> Network.
    From the “Location” menu select “Edit Locations”.
    Click the “+” button and name it “Home” or “My Network”.
    Click “Done”.
    Highlight “Airport” on the left, and verify that your network appears beside “Network Name”.
    Click “Apply”.
    Click “Advanced…”.
    Click the “Airport” tab, and add your network to the “Preferred Networks”list.
    Click “OK” and then click “Apply” once more.
    Now see if your connectivity issues are resolved. Later you can Trash the .plist files you dragged to the Desktop.
    *Archive & Install*
    As a last resort, an Archive & Install using your Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) installation DVD will usually resolve this issue. Then use Software Update to bring your system up to date. It appears that reapplying the recent updates in this condition, does not cause the problems to return.

  • Extreme 2008-003 Pulled Update - Recommended Action for its Victims?

    Yesterday I reported that I was one of those who installed the Update 2008-003 before it was pulled:

    I now realize that my early personal experience with this update is not as benign as originally stated. Throughout the day yesterday the AirPort Extreme connection to ActionTec DSL modem dropped inexplicably three or four times --- re-established by restarting iMac.
    This morning, the connection could not be established after multiple restarts. But, oddly, connection to AirportExpress was made!?
    I then attempt to reboot from a full backup (about a week old), and a solid connection was established. After an hour or so I again attempted to boot from Mac HD --- and it worked this time!
    I fully expect continued erratic performance of AirPort Extreme throughout the day.
    My question is what is the best course of action at this juncture?
    (1) Restore from Time Machine
    (2) Restore from Full Backup (SuperDuper)
    (3) Leave things as they currently exist and wait for Apple to sort out this mess?

    I am not sure what machines were affected by this "update" but my 15" MBP seems to have survived without any obvious ramifications.
    If anyone has used TM or SuperDuper! or CCC to revert to previous system, let us know if that fixed any issues.

  • Unable to connect Brother printer to Airport Extreme using USB

    Hi, I recently bought a Brother HL-2270DW printer, which has 802.11 b/g wireless capabilities.  My airport extreme (2008 model) is set to 802.11 n (5 ghz), so I can't set-up the printer wirelessly to the airport extreme without changing to 802.11 b/g.  Instead I'm fine hooking up the printer to the airport extreme using a USB.  When I first turn on the printer, I can print from my Macbook, but after a few minutes, the printer goes offline and has to be turned off/on.  When I try to Open Printer Utility, there is a connection error.  I have the right driver installed, and I can print fine for a few minutes after turning on the printer, and all the time when the printer is connected to the Macbook directly using the USB.  I would like to use the printer by connecting it to the airport extreme using the USB or Ethernet.  Any help would be much appreciated, thanks,

    Please explain exactly what you're experiencing that leads you to claim that.
    The current firmware of the TiVo Premier is easily confused about whether it's connected to the Internet or not.  In my experience, a TiVo unit will quickly regain its senses and decide that it really is connected.

  • AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003 disables airport

    After working perfectly since I received my Macbook Pro on Friday, I was notified yesterday there was a Software Update called "AirPort Extreme Update 2008-003". Not thinking twice, I installed it while I was at work, then when I went home and rebooted, I could no longer turn on my airport (just the spinning beach ball). Then in network preferences when trying to turn airport on, it freezes up the system. I then have to force quit and force the machine to power off by holding down the power button. The only way I have been able to get airport to come back on is by creating a new location in network preferences called "Home". If it gets switched back to "Automatic" I can no longer turn Airport on anymore. Also, even though I can turn it on using the new location, I am no longer able to connect to the wifi network at work at all, and it fails to see as many wireless networks in our building as it did before.
    I realize now after reading at several blogs online that this update was almost immediately pulled and is no longer available. Is there any way to undo or revert back to a previous state before this update or do I have to wait for a fix. Or, if necessary, should I use the DVD that came with my system to totally do a system restore of my machine?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Replacing Airport Extreme Card in Late 2008 MBP - What to buy??

    I've limped along for about 2 years now with my wifi constantly dropping while everyone else has a strong, constant signal. Doesn't matter where I am, it's always dropping and takes ages to reconnect. I've tried everything advised on the forum etc and am now about to buy something else as my main machine. I don't want to get rid of my MBP though so am planning on installing new memory and hard drive and while I'm doing that, want to replace the airport extreme card. The MBP will then become my secondary machine.
    Problem is, I can't figure out what I need to buy to replace the **** card! Seems like a lot I'm finding are either for machines that never had cards or for 2009 or newer. I just need to know which card to buy.
    OR . . . hearing that they are a pain to get to (keeping in mind I'll have the guts exposed while I upgrade the memory and HD) and fiddly . . . is there something external to plug into a USB I should get instead?

    I'm already upgrading to 8GB of RAM and I'm planning on adding a Solid State Hard Drive since it will be a secondary machine. I really don't want to replace the optical drive too. At that point it's got new components in an old chassis with an old CPU.
    I've been to the Genius Bar (back when I lived in a place where there was one in town) and they couldn't replicate the issue but as soon as I left it started up again. There are times when it holds the signal for a good hour or more or days like today when it's dropping it every few minutes. It's completely random.
    No. This girl is going to go build her own PC with a fantastic GPU so as to kick some Diablo butt and the old Macbook Pro will only get used when I don't need it for anything serious. And I am most certainly not dropping another $2k + on a new MBP no matter how shiny they are! It's the end of an era as I've been using Macs exclusively for over 10 years now.

    ever since I installed the Airport Extreme update 2008-001 my internet connection has been dropping and it's so frustrating. I normally wait and don't install updates immediately after they are released. I installed this one and now my internet connection keeps dropping.
    Anyone have any suggestions??

    Same scenario here, though I'm running 10.4.9. on a Mac Pro. I've tried every known fix, but Safari still stalls every few minutes - taking upwards of a minute to continue loading whatever page I was browsing to.
    Other apps, including Mail, Firefox, and Remote Desktop screen sharing aren't affected - I can ping away without issue while Safari is choking, and there is no unusual Safari CPU consumption in Activity Monitor

    To be honest, probably not. I have both models and there is very little difference in the signal power among the two devices since the broadcast power of wireless routers is limited by law. The law has not changed, and the AirPorts are running at 100% power by default.
    You will likely do better to add an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme to "extend" the wireless signal that you have.  This can be done by connecting the AirPorts using a wired Ethernet connection (strongly preferred) or by configuring the new device to "extend" the signal using wireless only.

  • AirPort 2008-003 update: 802.1X connection broken

    At work I use a WPA Enterprise secured WLAN with PEAP authentication - this configuration doesn't work anymore after the AirPort 2008-003 update. (Maybe that's why Apple pulled it back.)
    My WPA2 Personal network at home still works fine.

    You might try this. Drag the following three items to the Desktop:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.network.identification.plist
    If any one of them doesn't exist then drag those that do to the Desktop. Restart the computer. You will need to open Network preferences and reconfigure your settings so be sure to note them down in advance.
    No guarantee, but some have reported this fixed the problem with the update.

  • Installing Airport extreme card for 2008 Mac Pro

    After some searching I finally found which airport extreme card to get for my 2008 Mac Pro that I just purchased recently . According to the the link below in the Apple archives it is part number MB363Z/A. However the link further down in the thread for the instructions on installing the card doesn't seem to work any more. Anyone know where to find another link for some detailed instructions or pics on installing the card. I haven't found any as of yet. I installed the old extreme card in my G5 pretty easily, but this seems a little more involved in the Mac pro from what I've read so far.

    Ok never mind I found the old link seems to work now with detailed pics and instructions. Sounds like it's a bit of a pain but can be done with patience. Just have to get the card now.

  • Wireless networking fails after AirPort Extreme Update 2007-003

    I have just tried installing AirPort Extreme Update 2007-003 on a MacBook Pro and wireless networking, which used to work, now no longer works.
    My wireless network consists of the MBP and a Thomson Speedtouch 585 ADSL modem/router.
    The symptom is that no connection can be obtained - the Airport menubar item flashes continually about once a second, as does the WLAN activity light on the 585.
    The Console.log reports (repeatedly) that "configd crashed" and the corresponding information in /Library/Logs/CrashReporter/configd.crash.log says that:

    All system software is up to date (Tiger 10.4.9) - I had just run the system updater.
    If I disable Airport (i.e. wireless networking) and connect the MBP to the 585 by Ethernet, then it all works fine.
    Something similar happened to my system about 4 weeks ago - I got around it that time by rerunning the MacOS 10.4.9 Combo update - but this time that doesn't work.
    Any suggestions on why configd is crashing and how to stop it?

    My answer was going to be that keychain had nothing to do with the problem. If I log in as a different user (even a freshly-created one), I still get the same symptoms. I was also getting the same symptoms with a rescue copy of 10.4.9 on an external hard disk.
    However, I thought I would have a look at my keychain using the Keychain Access utility (which, I seem to remember, has some recovery/repair functions). Lo and behold, the Keychain Access utility crashes after about 2 seconds and the crash report in ~/library/logs looks similar to one for configd. Here is a sample:

    So it looks as if something is messing up my keychain (all my keychains?) and that in turn crashes both configd and keychain access.
    Do you have any suggestions on where to go from here? There are two issues:
    How to stop keychain getting corrupted again?
    How to repair the corrupted keychain if I can't use Keychain Acess? - can you just delete the keychain file and then re-enter passwords as and when necessary?
    Meanwhile I can experiment with reloading my rescue copy of 10.4.9. If this fault is reproducable, then I guess I ought to file a bug report with Apple

    I have yet to download the latest Airport Extreme update. Update 001 caused me to be without internet for over a month. 002 fixed the problem. I'm afraid that 003 might screw it all up again.
    Does anyone have any insight? I'm on a 2-wire router, running Tiger on a MacBook Pro. I would really love to hear any positive / negative feedback you have. Particularly if you're well versed in wireless!

    After running the Software Update and being notified that Airport Extreme Update 2008-004 was available, I ran the install program and received the following error:
    "The update "AirPort Extreme Update 2008-004" can't be saved.
    The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple"."
    When I ran SW Update on my iMac 2.4Ghz, the same install ran and installed fine. Anyone have any ideas on what's ailing my Mac Pro (the newer machine)?
