Airport Extreme 5GHz network connection failed

Hi,
I have a PC, MBP mid-2012, Ipad, HTC One, Samsung S3, and Chromecast. I bought an airport extreme 3 weeks ago, and a Netgear AC usb wifi adapter to my PC. Until two days ago, everything worked fine. I had two networks with different names for the 2,4GHz and the 5GHz. I did i because it was the only way I found to get my gadgets and computers to connect on 5GHz. Otherwise, they all connected in 2.4GHz.
Two days ago, I could no longer connect by MBP nor the PC to the 5GHz network. The MBP sees it, but gives an error when I try to connect. The PC does not even see it. The Ipad and both android phones connect to the 5GHz with no issue.
I already tried to turn on and off the airport express, to disable the dual network and reconfigure it, and to specify a channel for it. No change. Can you please help me to understand what is happening and find a solution?
Thanks a lot.

I believe it has something to do with securing the network as I'm now running an unsecured network and it not only stays up but it also seems a bit faster. I even ran the Airport Utility via ethernet and got it to "almost" configure but for some reason the setting never got implemented but at least I have internet access in my entire house. I thought it might be interference with some part of the house but it is indeed due to the latest firmware update for the AEB. Which I now call AE"BS". I tried my older Airport Express but I also couldn't get it to configure to now I'm not even sure if its firmware on the AEB or the Airport Utility that is messed up. Going tethered is not an option as I don't want to hunker down in a closet! Go unsecured and it might fix a lot of the issues we are seeing.

  • Airport Extreme 5ghz not connecting to internet?

Hello, I just installed a new Airport Extreme in Bridge mode to be a wireless AP for my FIOS setup. I have found that the 5Ghz wireless seems to not connect to the internet. If I switch my iphone to the 2.4Ghz wireless it connected to the internet just fine, but if I connect to the 5Ghz wireless I have a strong connection to the Airport but no connection to the web. My 2nd Gen Apple tv had the same connection issue as the iphone so that has been leading me to look at the Airport as the issue. Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas.
    Thank you

    I fixed it myself.
It was not a computer related problem. We have a network registration procedure that I forgot to do before the internet works.

  • Airport Extreme dropping network connection

    Hi all,
I have had my iMac and Airport Extreme for about 6 months. Within the past month, each time my computer either hibernates or starts up after shutting down, I have to physically unplug my Airport Extreme for the Internet connection to work again. I have tried to update the software and also tried to reestablish the network connection using the Network Preferences and System Preferences yet nothing has worked so far. Any help would be great! Thanks,

  • Extending AirPort Extreme's network breaks things

Aftter years of faultless Leopard service I upgraded to Lion  the other day.
Like many others, my network has now ground to a halt and and time machine backup is very hit and miss.
I use an Airport Extreme which is connected to a Time Capsule via ethernet.
I have found that if I stop extending the Extreme's network to the Time Capsule, everything works.  With the network extending wifi and ethernet constantly break.
The post below was found on another website but his simptoms are identical to mine, and maybe this is the problem with all of these Lion network issues?
    Apple Airport WiFi problems
    Submitted by HD BOy on July 10, 2011 - 8:30 P.M.
This problem is very real, but it is *NOT* an OS X Lion (10.6.8) issue. I think it is an Airport software issue. I just had the very same problem appear under Snow Leopard 10.6.7 on two separate LAN WiFi networks, one in Albuquerque and another in Sacramento. I've been able to replicate the problem on the two different networks:
Albuquerque (new Airport Extreme with Qwest/Motorola DSL modem)
    1. Upgraded Airport Utility to v7.5.2.
    2. Added a new Airport Express to extend (5GHz) Airport Extreme signal for network 1 (Albuquerque).
    3. WiFi network worked for a few minutes and then ground to a halt. WiFi dead on Macs, Windows 7 and Vista PCs, iPhone 4s and iPads.Network down for a couple of days, trying to fix it. We finally had to disconnect the Airport Express. Choosing "extend a network" is the problem...
Sacramento (2nd generation Time Capsule with old, Comcast Scientific Atlanta or new RCA DOCIS 2.0 modems)
    1. Upgraded Airport Utility to v7.5.2.
    2. Added a new Airport Express to extend (5 GHz) Time Capsule signal for network 2 (Sacramento).
    3. WiFi network worked for a few minutes and then ground to a halt. WiFi dead on Macs, iPhone 4s and iPads. After a few minutes, even Ethernet access died — the router kills the DSL or cable modems since they get caught in a communications loop. This network also went down for a couple of days. We finally had to disconnect the Airport Express. Choosing "extend a network" is the problem...
    4. To test this theory, I reconfigured a second Time Capsule on this network from Wireless "Off" to extend the network.
    5. Same problem — network fails and the main DHCP router can't communicate with the cable modem. Even Ethernet died.
When this occurs, the network slows to a crawl. Web pages stop loading or take minutes to load. You can't communicate with the "extended" routers at all — they get stuck while Airport attempts to read or save the Airport configuration file. Disconnecting them is the only option. Even resetting these devices doesn't work properly.
Three different people configured these networks and we all had the same problems. Apple, you have a problem.

PageMaker, I'm experiencing this exact same issue when I'm trying to extend my Extreme Network with my Time Capsule.  It breaks my home sharing, Apple TV and wireless printing.  Were you able to resolve?  What do you recommend?  I've had to shutdown the "extend" capabilities which has made half my home dark.  Thoughts apprecited.

  • Remote Speaker (AirTunes) Error - "the network connection failed"

I am getting a strange error message when I try to stream music through an AirTunes remote speaker. iTunes tells me this:
*An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "NN". The network connection failed.*
I can't say what has changed for this error to occur. Last time I used the system it worked fine, now it doesn't. I do know I have upgraded iTunes a couple of times since, though.
I am connecting to an 802.11g AirPort Express running firmware version 6.3.
Both our computers (MacBook & MacBook Pro) run Mac OS version 10.5.8.
In my system, the AirPort Express functions solely as a wireless speaker client, as the WLAN network itself is based around an 802.11n AirPort Extreme.
The AP shows a green light, and reports no problems in AP Utility.
When I change the device's "iTunes Speaker Password" setting in AP Utility, iTunes in both our computers immediately reflect the change, so apparently the various parts in the system do speak to one another just fine. They just can't transmit music, for some reason...
Anyone have any idea what might be going on, here?

I have a similar problem. I use AE(g) with a Powerbook G4 and always get this error, which kind of bugs me, since all the settings appear to be correct. Unlike you though, I didn't make it work, not a single time — closing lid, opening and closing iTunes, resetting AE, yet no luck. Tried it all only with current versions of software.
However, the AE does sense when I unplug the speakers, since it first says "no speakers found", and then "the network connection failed". Strange is that the error has no number, nor does Console provide any clues. Sometimes it is pretty annoying when OS X just says "error". What error, where, why... Feels like good ol' windows times.

  • Airplay Connection issues - An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device "x". The network connection failed.

I recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion, and got my Airport Express (802.11g) out of the closet and set up an AirPlay network for my speakers.
All worked well for the first while, but recently I've been having an inconsistent problem with this: "An error occurred while connecting to the AirPlay device “my network name”. The network connection failed."
Since it came up, more often than not, I can't connect.
I can play without issue from my iPhone, and from my iPad.
I looked around these forums, and found a couple threads dealing with this from 2011, with no clear resolution to them.  No one with Mountain Lion seems to complain about it, though a few people mused about whether Mountain Lion might fix the problem.
I'm running iTunes 10.7(21), and don't recall doing any upgrades to it that might have brought this about, though I can't say for sure.
My Airport Express is updated to firmware version 6.3, which I believe is the last one issued for the 'g' Airport Express.
My wireless network runs off an Airport Extreme 802.11n (Second Generation) with verion 7.6.1 firmware.
My Mac has 10.8.2 on it right now.
Hopefully some of that info might help sort this out - any replies greatly appreciated!

One quick update.  A workaround that was mentioned in one post did seem to work - if music is started via the Remote app it seems to connect fine.
And I'm not sure if I dare upgrade to iTunes 11 given the firestorm of bad impressions I see, including some that relate to Airplay functions...

Unfortunately, you are describing the symptoms of an AirPort Extreme with a failing (or failed) internal power supply.
As a last resort, try a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme as follows:
Power off the AirPort by pulling the power cord
    Wait a minute or two
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for an additional 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort
Release the reset button and allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart
Now try to configure the AirPort again.  If you continue to see the same symptoms as before, the AirPort will need to be replaced.

  • My airport extreme will not connect to the Internet

My airport extreme will not connect to my toshiba router. I connected it to my office internet this morning but when I hooked it up at home it simply will not connect. I have tried resetting all the settings and have had no luck. It did work once upon a time. I currently have my airport express hooked up so I know there is connectivity.

I could never figure it out after trying everything I could and going to the genius bar I ended up just purchasing another extreme.  The really funny thing is that I can set up a network between the two and it works fine.  I am using it at work now with out any problems so I guess there is really no loss :-?

  • An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker. The network connection failed.

I can't get my itunes to connect to the remote speakers via airport express anymore  - I did not change any settings - but did update iTunes to 10.2.2 and now things are not working and I get his message - "An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker “Living Room”. The network connection failed."
Does anybody have a fix for this problem?
    thanks

Same problem for me. Ever since I upgraded to 10.6.3 and iTunes 9.1, about once per week I'll get the error message when trying to get iTunes/Airtunes to connect to my older Airport Express (running firmware 6.3) "An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker <insert speaker name here>. The network connection failed." (No error codes are given.)
Airport Utility sees the offending Airport Express just fine (and there's a green light on said AE).
Curiously, a newer AE-n, elsewhere in the house (running firmware 7.4.2) does NOT exhibit this problem.
Simply restarting the offending AE does NOT clear the problem. Restarting the main router - a Time Capsule DOES clear the problem. Alternatively, toggling off the Airtunes functionality on the offending AE, restarting it, then toggling Airtunes back on, and finally restarting it DOES clear the problem (as an alternate to restarting the router). No matter how the problem is cleared, it returns within a week. It's frustrating that the problem cannot be recreated immediately.
Probably not relevant, but the computer on which I'm running iTunes (a Mac Mini) is connected to my TC via ethernet, not wirelessly.
I've tried the suggestion of disabling ipv6. No effect.
I fear the only solution will be to scrap my older Airport Express and replace it with a newer n-model. But before I resign myself to the $100 fix, any more ideas?

  • I enabled the guest network feature on my time capsule.  Can I configure my airport extremes guest network feature if I use this as a network extender using a "roaming" network?

I enabled the guest network feature on my TC.  Can I configure my airport extremes guest network feature if I use the extreme as a network extender connecting my Airport Extreme to my TC via ethernet cable?

Unfortunately no, since the AirPort Extreme should be configured in Bridge Mode if it is connecting to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet connection.
The Guest Network option cannot be enabled when the AirPort is configured in Bridge Mode.
Another way of saying the same thing is that the Guest Network cannot be "extended" either by using an Ethernet connection or wireless. It is only available from the Time Capsule "main" wireless router on your network, not any extending devices.

When attempting to set a password on my Airport Extreme Guest Network i get this "Advertising a service globally using Bonjour requires a global hostname." What does it mean. Or what i need to do to correct it.

When trying to troubleshoot my problem I discovered a forum that was saying certain NTFS drives work just fine
Apple support says that an NTFS or exFAT drive cannot be used when connected to the AirPort Extreme.
I suppose it is possible that someone might have been using some type of special software on the drive that might perform a "conversion", but without more details, it is hard to know.
Note: ExFAT and NTFS formats aren't supported.

Airport extreme has to connect to internet if computer goes to screen saver.  Any way around this?

Describe the issue in more detail.. as it doesn't currently make sense.. the AE should always be connected to the internet. It should never disconnect.. but the computer can fail to connect to wireless after sleep.. that is common problem.
See Tesserax docos if you have wireless connect issues after sleep.

  • Make AirPort Extreme share internet connection with Time Capsule

    Hello,
This is the situation: in one room there's an old Mac, the modem which delivers the internet and the AirPort Extreme which is connected to the modem.
In another room there's the Mac Pro, the Time Capsule which is connected to the Mac Pro with an ethernet cable and to a printer via USB.
I want the AirPort Extreme to wirelessly share it's internet connection with the Time Capsule so that the Time Capsule can share the printer with all three Macs (old Mac, Mac Pro and Macbook Pro), the Mac Pro can use the Time Capsule for Time Machine functionality and maybe the Macbook Pro too.
And just using the Time Capsule for internet.
    How can I do this?
At the moment the AirPort Extreme is disconnected and the Time Capsule is used instead, but this way I can't share the printer...
    Thanks!

Is that AirPort Extreme "flat" or dome-shaped?  If it's flat (802.11n-capable), you should be able to configure the "main" router to "Allow this network to be extended" and the other to "Join a wireless network".  If the Extreme is dome-shaped, then you need a more-complicated "WDS" arrangement.  In either case it shouldn't matter much which router plays which role.
I'm not sure what you mean by "And just using the Time Capsule for internet."

Is the printer connected to the USB port of the Time Capsule?  Can you see the printer in the "Printer" panel of AirPort Utility?  What happens when you try to use it from one of the Macs?

  • Adobe version checker : Network connection failed

    Hello all,
I recently wanted to try the new "Adobe Mobile Packager" to publish a FL application.
I succeeded in making the .sis file, with an empty certificate. When installing the .sis application, all went fine.
But when I wanted to launch it, it asked me to install the "new" other "Adobe Version Checker" application... but when it tried to connect, i have a great "network connection failed" prompting to me. and the application could not be launched.
Any idea to solve this ?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    Thanks for the feedback.
The device is a Nokia N95 8Go. The network I want to connect to is SFR
    (French Network).
I didn't try with another network like Orange or Bouygues, I can try
this and report you the result.
