Airport Extreme 5ghz not connecting to internet?

Hello, I just installed a new Airport Extreme in Bridge mode to be a wireless AP for my FIOS setup. I have found that the 5Ghz wireless seems to not connect to the internet. If I switch my iphone to the 2.4Ghz wireless it connected to the internet just fine, but if I connect to the 5Ghz wireless I have a strong connection to the Airport but no connection to the web. My 2nd Gen Apple tv had the same connection issue as the iphone so that has been leading me to look at the Airport as the issue. Has anyone else seen this or have any ideas.
Thank you

I fixed it myself.
It was not a computer related problem. We have a network registration procedure that I forgot to do before the internet works.

  • New AirPort Extreme will not connect to internet

Purchased AirPort Extreme to replace older D Link 655 router. All of my Apple gear has been plug and play except this
Extreme router.  I cannot get an internet connection to save my soul.  I tried connecting thru both my MacBook Pro and my HP Pavilion dv6.  I just assumed I could move the ethernet cord from the DIR-655 to the AirPort and all would be fine.  Not so.  I have reset, unplugged and restarted so many times I lost count.  Nothing works.  What am I doing wrong.  I even swapped out at store where I bought thinking I had defective router.  any ideas?  My wife works from home and I really need a better router with greater reach and thought this was it.  Please help.

Simply restarting the modem will not always allow it to reset correctly so that it will issue a new valid IP address to the AirPort Extreme.
Power off the cable modem completely for at least 30 minutes....longer will not hurt. Be sure to unplug the power cord from the back of the modem or unplug the power cord at the AC wall jack. If the modem has an easily accessible battery, pull the battery.
Power off the AirPort Extreme as well.
After the modem power down period, insure that the Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme. Reinstall the modem battery if it was installed previously.
Power up the modem and let it run for 10 minutes by itself.
Then power up the AirPort Extreme and let it run for a few minutes. Check to see if the Internet connection is working correctly now.

  • Airport Extreme will not connect to Internet

Just purchased an Airport Extreme Base Station (AEBS) to upgrade old Netgear router.  Netgear was working perfect with both wired and wireless internet.  My ISP is a rural internet high-speed wireless company.  It is not DSL/Cable or Satellite, requires an antenna on a tower, can try to find out more details if it helps. Previous settings were referenced on the old router and DHCP is used to identify what is static IP provided by company.
After several attempts at installing AEBS: green light is on, wireless network is successfully created, but internet cannot be accessed in either wired or wireless mode on any device.  Interestingly, the IP address that the AEBS uses DHCP to find is DIFFERENT from the IP address found by the old router.  I have tried several different configurations of the manual setup, including manually entering the IP address, but when I try this, it also asks for a router address and nothing I put in seems to satisfy the utility's requirements.
I played with so many settings and restarted my computer so many times that each time I try things, I reset the AEBS to default and start from scratch.  I've done this about 10 times.
I'm at a loss.  ISP wants nothing to do with this because the old router works, I would like to use the apple product (with some express(es) to extend range), but I'm unable to get this to function.
    Any help would be appreciated.
I am not running a Mac desktop, if it matters.  Using the airport utility for windows on home-built PC.  No device will work, however, having tried wifi on iPhone, iPad, Laptop and other desktop.

I hope this helps. I don't own an Airport Extreme but an Airport Express and here is what I did:
Perform a Factory Reset, by disconnecting the AE, once unplugged proceed to push the Reset Button and then, without releasing the button, plug it again to the power source and wait a few secs till the lighs begin to blink. Now you can release the Reset Button.
After that, the Airport Utility should detect it. Here is what you have to do. As you want to use it as Router, you have to:
    1.- Click on: Manual Setup
2.- Fill your data for the Airport Extreme, like password to access it and the name of the base station
3.- On the Wireless tab, select Create Wireless Network and allow the security on it and key to access it and all the wireless variables you want to include.
4.- Allow Wireless and Ethernet clients to be able to connect and make an updation of your configuration
Note:  If you are going to use multiple clients for wireless, then you have to go to the Internet button at the top of Airport Utility and select DHCP to distribute the IPs manually.
That should be all from Airport Utility. The other side you have to check is your Windows configuration.
I hope this helps. If not, please share more details after you try step by step the instructions I pasted here.

  • Airport Extreme bs not connecting to internet through ethernet network

I live in a dormitory at a school. I have a network jack in the wall of my apartment that connects me to the rest of the school network and the internet. I have an Apple airport music thing that plugs into the wall socket and delivers wireless network and internet access to my apartment.
I also have a new airport extreme base station that I set up by using the wizard set-up software. My computer sees the base station. The network connection software says I have a strong network connection. But I can't access any service either on the local network or the internet.
Any thoughts about what I should change in the base station set-up to make it talk to the rest of the world?

    I fixed it myself.

  • My airport extreme will not connect to the Internet

My airport extreme will not connect to my toshiba router. I connected it to my office internet this morning but when I hooked it up at home it simply will not connect. I have tried resetting all the settings and have had no luck. It did work once upon a time. I currently have my airport express hooked up so I know there is connectivity.

I could never figure it out after trying everything I could and going to the genius bar I ended up just purchasing another extreme.  The really funny thing is that I can set up a network between the two and it works fine.  I am using it at work now with out any problems so I guess there is really no loss :-?

  • Internet connection is through airport extreme is not connected

internet connection through airport extreme is not connected maybe there is a problem setting it up

Is it possible that using a Netgear Router connected
to the AE (which is also a router if I understand
correctly) could cause connection problems ?
    Yes.
Ensure that that the AEBS is configured to not distribute IP addresses.
Also ensure that the AEBS is on a different channel to the DG834G.

  • Wired connection to cable modem.  Airport extreme has to connect to internet if computer goes to screen saver.  Any way around this?

Airport extreme has to connect to internet if computer goes to screen saver.  Any way around this?

Describe the issue in more detail.. as it doesn't currently make sense.. the AE should always be connected to the internet. It should never disconnect.. but the computer can fail to connect to wireless after sleep.. that is common problem.
See Tesserax docos if you have wireless connect issues after sleep.

  • Airport extreme n not connecting to the internet but green light is on

Original configuration worked until a few days ago like this... Cable modem (RCA Digital by Comcast Model DHg535-2) ran into airport extreme N... into a D-Link DGS-2208 8 port switch... off to 8 different macs / printers/apple tv's/ and wireless macbook pro. Perfect.
Dilemma now. Cable modem running direct to main IMAC and works fine connecting through DHCP and active ip address. Ethernet shows green light in system preferences and connected. Unhook the line to the Mac and into the airport. Airport lights up green, bars show as connected, my original apple network is showing and connected w green light on airport and in system network preferences. Once this is done i can not access internet pages and they just spin on "loading". Hardline from airport extreme is connected to the IMAC and still no internet. Wireless shows up on macbook but still states "Loading".
Step one - connect to internet through direct line cable model. WORKS
Step two - connect to internet through direct wire through model/airport. No
Step three - connect through wireless - No
Step four - reestablish my switch and get everything back on line - Nope.
    Bunce

The problem may be when you switch what is connected to the modem by just unplugging and replugging devices.
Any time you change network configuration, you should perform a complete power recycle of all of the network equipment to make sure that they are both "recognized" and initialized properly.
    Please try the following:
o Power-down the modem, 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), D-Link switch, & computer(s)/printer(s). Wait at least 10-15 minutes. Order is not critical.
o While the power is off, reconfigure your network to include the AEBSn.
o Power-on the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-on the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
o Power-on the D-Link switch; wait at least 5 minutes.
    o Power-on the computers/printers.

  • Airport Extreme 5GHz network connection failed

    Hi,
I have a PC, MBP mid-2012, Ipad, HTC One, Samsung S3, and Chromecast. I bought an airport extreme 3 weeks ago, and a Netgear AC usb wifi adapter to my PC. Until two days ago, everything worked fine. I had two networks with different names for the 2,4GHz and the 5GHz. I did i because it was the only way I found to get my gadgets and computers to connect on 5GHz. Otherwise, they all connected in 2.4GHz.
Two days ago, I could no longer connect by MBP nor the PC to the 5GHz network. The MBP sees it, but gives an error when I try to connect. The PC does not even see it. The Ipad and both android phones connect to the 5GHz with no issue.
I already tried to turn on and off the airport express, to disable the dual network and reconfigure it, and to specify a channel for it. No change. Can you please help me to understand what is happening and find a solution?
    Thanks a lot.

I believe it has something to do with securing the network as I'm now running an unsecured network and it not only stays up but it also seems a bit faster. I even ran the Airport Utility via ethernet and got it to "almost" configure but for some reason the setting never got implemented but at least I have internet access in my entire house. I thought it might be interference with some part of the house but it is indeed due to the latest firmware update for the AEB. Which I now call AE"BS". I tried my older Airport Express but I also couldn't get it to configure to now I'm not even sure if its firmware on the AEB or the Airport Utility that is messed up. Going tethered is not an option as I don't want to hunker down in a closet! Go unsecured and it might fix a lot of the issues we are seeing.

  • Airport Extreme no longer connects to internet ****

I really hope somebody can help me. I've searched the forum and believe I've tried everything suggested to others having similar issues.
I've never had any issues with my Airport before this past week when suddenly my broadband connection went dead (Charter Cable). I was able to get a signal to the modem as it appeared the cable was disconnected outside so I reattached. I've talked to the tech support people who were able to "see" that my modem was online but wireless was not working.
I have reset the Airport Extreme, I have reset the cable modem (Scientific Atlanta), I have unplugged both for up to 2hrs, I have deleted and reinstalled the airport software, I have tried starting a new location in network preferences. The green light glows green on the Airport but I still get errors ranging from 'you appear to not have a valid internet connection to perhaps you typed the url incorrectly'. I have even tried setting up a brand new Airport up with the same result. I have tried using other wifi devices to connect, select my network, I get full wifi connection (bars) but still nothing.
If I plug directly via ethernet cable from modem to macbook I have no problems.
I spent 2 hours on the phone with apple yesterday and they were not able to figure it out. We were able to see a valid looking IP address, select my network, etc and nothing. My internet provider is adamant that this is not their problem. I've also tried two different cable modems from the cable company. For five years I've had no issues and for some inexplicable reason getting wireless to work is like trying to land on the moon now.
    Any ideas?

    Hi everyone,
I called Apple today and found the solution to my problem. The cable modem was not sending the correct IP address to the Airport. You can tell by opening the Airport Admin program, selecting internet from the tabbed menu and looking at the IP address. If it ends in ".169" that is bad. So, close the Airport Admin program, turn off the cable modem, wait 20-30 seconds, turn it on again and wait for it to power up. After another 30 seconds, open the Airport Admin and select the internet tab. The IP address should be different and..... now it works! The person helping me at Apple says he has to do this about once a month for some reason.
    Hope this helps others, ellen

  • Airport Extreme can't connect to Internet

    Hi all,
I recently inherited a 4th gen airport extreme base station and i cant connect to the internet wirelessly. The light is green, the comcast motorola modem is working fine, but when i open a webpage, nothing comes up on any of my devices (MacBook running lion, iPhone, playstation).  I've reset/unplugged the modem and soft/hard/factory reset the airport extreme a hundred times, sometimes leaving them unplugged for 30 minutes, but no luck. Sometimes after a reset the Internet will work for a few minutes but then suddenly stop eventhough I'm still "connected" and the light's green.
The airport worked perfectly fine at my friend's house who also used a Comcast modem. And my modem worked great for the last 6 months with my 1st gen airport extreme that I am trying to replace with this malfunctioning 4th gen. Called Comcast and they said the modem looks great on their end, no signal cut outs and Internet connected. Other things I've tried but without luck:
    - plug in laptop directly to modem (internet works) write down working DNS addresses and put those in to the airport utility manually.
    - renew dhcp lease which sometimes makes it work for 30 seconds
    - update firmware to latest
    - downloaded air radar and made sure channels used were clear
    - turn on only 5 ghz channel
    - of note, I own no cordless phones or other 2.4 ghz wireless electronics that I'm aware of.
Please help, this is driving me crazy! Thank you so much in advance.
    Happy Holidays

I am having a similar issue in that I have intermittent Internet connectivity. I found using Mozilla's Camino browser as a work around, or I switch to one of my other AirPort Expresses. This started happening on Friday the 9th. I am not sure if it is the AirPort Extreme or the AirPort Disk Utility software I installed.

  • Airport Extreme Doesn't Connect to Internet

I've been trying, for a couple days - to figure out the AE.  I want to replace my Verizon-provided router, with the AE - because for whatever reason - since adding the Verizon router, my Apple TV's don't see my PC (and my PC is the home to my iTunes library).
I've got a solid green light on the front of the AE.  I've got solid green lights on the back for:  Wan Ethernet connection and 2 PC Ethernet Connections. My AirPort Utility App on my iPhone shows "green" for the base station but "amber" for the internet.  My Apple TV's and iPhones also all show up on the AE.
Should I manually reset the AE here?
Also - even though I have FiOS - I don't have FiOS TV, and the folks at FiOS said there are no unique "gotchas" in switching routers.  And although I haven't tried it - I don't want to set the AE up as a bridge to the Verizon - I want to use the AE and only the AE.
After hours of trying (multiple times) I always reconnect th FiOS router and everything comes up flashing green with good connectivity.
Any ideas on the way forward?
    Thanks much!
    -Coach B.

If you have the HP 2605dn printer attached to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) (or any router) by Ethernet, then the AEBSn is NOT performing as a Print Server. Instead, the printer itself would have to be configured to provide this service.
I don't have this particular printer, but I do have a network-ready HP Officejet model that I have my network clients (Macs, PCs, & even Linux) connect to. The key is either using the unit's interfact panel to configure the appropriate network settings specific for your network.

  • Airport Extreme intermittently loses connection with Internet?

I have an Airport Extreme connected to a router that is connected to our cable modem. Internet connection is fine, but the Airport Extreme will intermittently lose connection with the Internet and shows a solid amber light. Turning the Airport Extreme off and then on again will resolve the issue, however, this happens about once per week (at different days/times) and would like to ensure a consistent connection even when I'm not at home. (We are thinking of installing a lighting control system that depends upon a consistent wireless connection to work properly, even when we aren't home to restart the Airport Extreme). Please advise on what the trouble might be and how we can get a permanent resolution to the issue.

Is your Extreme an 802.11g (domed-shape) or 802.11n (squarish) model? Do you have the Extreme connected to the other router by Ethernet? Finally, is the Extreme configured as a bridge, i.e., Connection Sharing = Off (Bridge Mode)?

  • New Airport Express will not connect to internet

I am attempting to upgrade from an old Airport Base Station (the gum drop/flying saucer/mushroom model) to the new and improved mini tower model. I plugged the ethernet cable from the comcast cable modem in and nothing worked - no wireless, no internet, no nothing but flashing amber light. I was able to configure a new wireless network, and it shows up on MBPro running Maverick and iPad using Airport Utility as a functioning wireless network (with the green light on the AE), but it will not connect to the internet. Any suggestions?

The only step that appears to be missing is to reset your cable or DSL modem. Unplug it and let it rest a moment or two, then power it back up again: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2460
You've done everything right, but still can't connect to the Internet. Why?
It is likely that the modem locked onto your iMac, and it will ignore anything else you plug into it until the modem has been reset. If you were to plug the iMac back into the modem, it would still connect to the Internet.
Fortunately, resetting a broadband modem is usually very easy -- just unplug its power supply, wait a moment, and plug it back in. After its indicator lights have gone through their startup routine, you should do the same to the AirPort base station.
Odds are that you can connect to the Internet now.
