Airport Extreme 5Ghz with 2nd Airport Extreme

I currently have a Airport Extreme Base Station (Latest model).
I have it connected to an Airport Express.
I would like to purchase another Airport Extreme and set this in Bridge Mode. I have it connected to an 8 port switch which is in turn connected to the original Airport Extreme.
If I have two Airport Extreme's will I get Wi-Fi via 5Ghz on 5Ghz capable devices?
What happens when a 2Ghz device connects to the network?
Most importantly can I use this new 2nd Airport Extreme's 3 additional ports to connect a local computer and printer?
If I use my Airport Express will this kill the 5Ghz network?
Thanks,

Can the Airport Express be set up as a PRINT SERVER only with no networking configuration?
No, the Express needs to be configured as a client on the network to act as print server
I noticed teh 5Ghz range is limited compared to 2.4Ghz range. Is there a rule of thumb on range between the two?
5 GHz signals are much weaker than 2.4 GHz signals, so they do not penetrate obstructions well. In general...for good performance....5 GHz is pretty much of a line-of-sight deal between the router and computer.
I am assuming I set the 2nd Extreme in Off (Bridge Mode) to turn it into an Access Point?
Yes
Why do I see IP address from devices located on the 2nd floor near the 2nd Extreme in Bridge Mode connected to the 1st Extreme in the basement?
You are seeing wireless devices that are using the wireless on the 2nd Extreme, but the IP addresses have been issued by the 1st Extreme. You can confirm by checking all DHCP Clients on the 1st Extreme.

Do you know of any kids games apps compatible with 2nd generation iPod? wanted to put some kids games on but they all say they are not supported by iOS 4.2.1. which is the latest ios it can be updated to. I get the message This app requires openGL ES 2.0 graphics capability. Can you tell me if there are any games I could download for him please?
If there aren't can you tell me if an ipod touch 3rd generation would be able to get alot of the current games like the lego ones and angry birds or which generation I would have to go to.
    Many Thanks

    - These sites allow you to filter searchs for those apps compatible with 4.2.1
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
    - However, some apps currently in th app require a higer iOS version. But, as I posint out in my previous reply, Apple allows yo to downlod the last compatilbe version
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
I know of no list/seach method to find those apps

I would opt for one 8 GB stick so you would have 10 GB. total. This says really no practical advantage in dual channel memory

  • Numark im1 works with 2nd generation ipod touch can it be made to work with 4th generation

Numark im1 works with 2nd generation ipod touch can it be made to work with 4th generation

You neglected to mention that the Numark iM1 is a piece of hardware (a physical box) that plugs into an iPod.
Checking on the Numark website, I suspect they haven't bothered to update their "iPod compatibility" page, since there's no specific reason (as far as I'm aware) why an App that worked with a 2nd gen Touch shouldn't work with a 4th gen model. Is that page where you looked and were then prompted to ask your question?
You might have more success in finding an answer to your question by contatcing the manufacturer (Numark) via their website or checking with a retailer who stocks the iM1. Numark appear to welcome email contact about their products.

Nothing.  The 2nd Gen Touch is OBSOLETE and is WAY past its support life.  If you want to run the newer apps you have to buy a newer iPod.

  • Satellite A500 - Is there a model with 2nd internal HDD?

Is there an A500 model with 2 internals hard disks?

    Hi!
You can check this on the Toshiba website in specifications of the notebook if its equipped with 2nd HDD ;)
But I have checked the Toshiba website for you and it seems that Satellite A500 isnt equipped with 2nd HDD.
So if you want a 2nd HDD you have to use an external one that you can connect via fast eSATA port for example.

  • Extending Airport Extreme N 5ghz with Express 5ghz

I have a last generation Airport Extreme (has N 5ghz but not dual band) set in N 5ghz that I would like to extend with a current generation N Airport Express. I setup the Extreme on 5ghz, hid the SSID, and allowed it to be extended. When I go to setup the Express to extend the Extreme network, it will say that the configuration updates have been saved, but it never finds the Express after it has restarted. The Express continues to have the Amber light flashing after restart.
    Any ideas?

Hello everglade. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I suggest starting over. Please give the following instructions a try ...
o If practical, place the base stations in near proximity to each other during the setup phase. Once done, move them to their desired locations.
o Open AirPort Utility and select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
o Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
o Choose “Create a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then select the “Allow this network to be extended” checkbox.
o Next, select the base station that will extend this network, and choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open its configuration in a separate window. Enter the base station password if necessary.
o Choose “Extend a wireless network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu, and then choose the network you want to extend from the Network Name pop-up menu.
o Enter the base station network and base station password is necessary.
o Click Update to update the base station with new network settings.

  • Trouble extending a wifi network with 2nd Airport Extreme base station.

I have added a second Airport Extreme in order to extend a network. I connected it to the network via an ethernet cable into one of the three ethernet ports. I have configured it using these instructions (http://systemsboy.com/2009/02/extending-an-airport-network.html). I get green lights for both units.
My network works until I update the second unit. As soon as I update the second unit, my entire internet connection goes down. Even computers in the office that are connected via ethernet cannot access the internet. As soon as I unplug the second base station, the internet connection is "live" again. I don't know how to proceed. I think my brain is fried. Any advice would be helpful.
    Thanks,
    Rich

Based on the information in your post, the article that you referenced will not provide the correct configuration that you need for your network. In summary, the information in the article is for extending wireless network using wireless only. You are connecting your two routers together using ethernet, correct?
To confirm, your post indicates that +I have added a second Airport Extreme in order to extend a network. I connected it to the network via an ethernet cable into one of the three ethernet ports+
If this is correct, the Wireless Mode for your "main" router should be set to "Create a wireless network".
For the second AirPort Extreme, you will use exactly the same setting, "Create a wireless network". The network name, security and password should match the settings of your main network exactly. This is probably confusing to you, but these are the correct settings when you have the second AirPort Extreme connected to the first using an ethernet cable.
It is critical that the second AirPort Extreme be configured as a "bridge" in order to function correctly on your network. When you are in AirPort Utility - Manual Setup, click the Internet icon at the top of the setup page. Look for the Connection Sharing setting at the bottom of the page. This must be set to "Off (Bridge Mode)". The configuration to "bridge" should be the last step before your click the Update button at the lower right of your screen.
Post back if you need more information or details.

  • Which DAC models work with 2nd generation Apple TV ?

I intend to purchase 2nd generation Apple TV for streaming music/video from latest model of 21.5" iMac through wireless network (Apple Airport Extreme) to audio system and HDTV in living room. The Apple TV will replace existing problematic Airport Express for music streaming.
I have locking/syncing problem to get Cambridge Audio's DacMagic and Meier Audio's StageDAC communicate with Airport Express through digital audio optical connection but no problem at all with Audio-GD's FUN DAC/amplifier. I have decided to use Meier Audio's StageDAC for its excellent sound stage. But will the same locking/syncing problem repeated with latest model of Apple TV ? How different between Airport Express and new Apple TV as far as digital audio optical port is concerned ?
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check your iTunes store location is correct, restart the Apple TV by unplugging it, restart your router.

  • Problems with 2nd gen Apple TV dropping network

Hoping somebody can help. I have two second generation Apple TV units that are constantly dropping off my network. I have to re-enter my apple ID and password almost daily. I am on an entirely Mac network, Imac (10.6.7), Airport extreme and express. My other mac devices have no such issues and remain on network without issue. I only have this problem with my apple tv devices. Both have been updated to the latest software version and the issue remains. Does anyone else have this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV's may be experiencing interference, have you tried changing wifi channels.
Check your network settings are correct and try restarting your router. update the routers firmware if appropriate.
I'm assuming the 2 Apple TV's have different names.

  • Extend with 2nd Express?

I have a studio apartment behind my house. It is across a 20' patio and tree. I have an airport extreme in my front room, and an airport express in the back room of the house closest to the studio. I want to provide my tenant with wireless. She is only able to get two out of four bars on her signal strength. We live in an urban area, and there is lots of "noise" -- mac stumbler shows a signal in my house of 63 - 98 with noise around 52 at most times. I don't know if this is the problem... can I extend the first express with a second? Perhaps actually in her apartment?
    powerbook G4 Titanium   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

    She is only
able to get two out of four bars on her signal
    strength.
That should be fine, I am sending this to the forum with 1 bar going on 2!
Remember that if you put an Airport Express (AX) in her apartment though her Mac will get a stronger signal, the AX will only be receiving the poor signal she can get already.

  • Extending Wi-Fi with 2nd base station

I just upgraded to an Airport Extreme base station. I also use 2 AE's to print wirelessly and also a 3rd to play my stereo remotely. The printers work fine, but the stereo apparently is borderline for distance and skips a lot. I still have my original Base Station & was attempting to use it to extend the wireless field so the AE on the stereo would work better, but even tho I reset the old base station to "factory settings" it is not being recognized by the AE setup software as a new base station. Maybe this isn't something that can be done, but if not I'll be returning the AE unit attached to the stereo. Any ideas. Thanks in advance.

I still have my original Base
Station & was attempting to use it to extend the
wireless field so the AE on the stereo would work
    better,
If this is an original snow or graphite base station then this is not possible to use this to extend a network using WDS.
Use one of the other Airport Express units to extend the Airport Extreme network and ensure it is placed at most two-thirds of the way to the stereo AX.

  • Expanding signal strength to Express airtunes with 2nd AEBS

    Herr0,
I currently have my AEBS(n) tapped into the cable modem in my entertainment room. Problem is that it is on the very opposite side of the house and I want to stream airtunes to my Express stations located throughout the house (http://bp2.blogger.com/_SV-StZbqvdw/RgRPAyXhzJI/AAAAAAAAAGI/5dXJkX4Nz4k/s1600/ho menetwork.JPG)
I also have one in my garage.
The airtunes signal continutes to cut out in the pool room, so I know I need to extend the range of my WiFi, and I am thinking of buying a 2nd AEBS(n) and placing it in the kitchen to be a remote base station to help feed signal to the express stations in the kitchen and pool room.
Will this work? Will my speed suffer? Is their a cheaper way to extend the range of my wifi from my AEBS located in the media room?

Hello iSearched. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Before buying another router, I suggest that you do a simple RF site survey using your MacBook Pro and the freeware iStumbler utility.
Use iStumbler's Inspector feature (select Edit > Inspector from iStumbler's menu) to determine the Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at different points around your house. Within the Inspector, note the values for "signal" & "noise" at these locations. Start with your MBP near the AEBSn, note the readings, and then, choose the locations where you would want to place the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
SNR is the signal level (in dBm) minus the noise level (in dBm). For example, a signal level of -53dBm measured near an access point and typical noise level of -90dBm yields a SNR of 37dB, a healthy value for wireless LANs.
The SNR of an access point signal, measured at your MBP, decreases as range to the source increases because the applicable free space loss. An increase in RF interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones, which increases the noise level, also decreases SNR.
    SNR Guideline
    o 40dB+ SNR = Excellent signal
    o 25dB to 40dB SNR = Very good signal
    o 15dB to 25dB SNR = Low signal
    o 10dB to 15dB SNR = Very low signal
    o 5dB to 10dB SNR = No signal
If the SNR is 20dB+ at each of these locations, then you should be getting reasonable performance from your AirPort. If less, either try to locate the source of the Wi-Fi interference or try relocating either the base station or the wireless clients until they are within a 20dB SNR range. If neither of these help, then the next step would be to add another base station. However, you want to avoid setting up a Wireless Distribution System (WDS), if possible, because for each base station added, the overall bandwidth is cut in half.
    Btw, nice setup!
