AirPort Extreme 7.3.1 Update and Internet Problem
This is driving me crazy. I use a D-Link DSL-320T adsl modem which is connected to my Extreme base station. This modem has never been ideal with my extreme. Firmware updates improved things and 7.2.1 seemed to work really well. Internet was working fine and air disk. My Extreme is set up to share a public address. When my computer is plugged in via ethernet to modem only it works fine. Once it is connected to the Extreme it all goes wrong under 7.3.1. I think the main issue is that the modem has a DHCP server built in and I just cant seem to get everything to work together (although seems fine under 7.2.1) Perhaps the update has broken the D-Link fix again. I need this to work for Time Machine. Getting to the point where I may .
just buy new modem that works. Can anyone suggest a suitable and compatible product.

The 7.3.1 firmware release has prompted me to do more research, and I think I might have cracked it. My modem (the DSL-300T) appears to have a hidden NAT and firewall functions (in the modem's system log you can see a line about Firewall and NAT starting). This is the cause of the 'Double NAT' error. The modem is also apparently well-known for crashing during periods of intense activity (torrents etc) - according to various posts in this support forum http://www.expansys-usa.com/f.aspx?i=110630 - I'm guessing that when it crashes and restarts the double NAT issue surfaces briefly, which results in the 'no valid IP' error under 7.2.1. Evidently 7.3.1 is more sensitive about these things and constantly complains about the double NAT error.
I partially confirmed this by disabling NAT in the AEBS (by switching to bridge mode), after which my internet works under Firmware 7.3.1. Unfortunately I can only then use my WiFi with one device at a time, which is not much use.
What we really need is a way to disable NAT in the modem. Unfortunately I'm not sure it is possible. There are a few references here and there to an old version of the firmware which allowed you to control the modem's NAT, but apparently it was crippled sometime in 2004 so they could sell a bigger better version of the modem.
I'm now leaning to towards buying a new modem. What is annoying is that I suspected a modem fault around a year ago, and bought a new one to verify it. Unfortunately I bought a second DSL-300T...

I just purchase the new airport extreme 802.11n and set it up on my LAN behind a comcast modem with broadband. I plugged a 3 tb Seagate hard drive formatted with fat32 (default) to it and have set it up for access for all of my computers, ipad, iphone, android in my house. Everything works as expected, internet access, file access to the USB HD on all devices locally through back to my mac. I would now like to allow my daughters in another state to access this drive through the Airport Extreme remotely from their location and have there own accounts on this hard drive to store and move their files for on the go access. I have studied many of the forums and have enabled share disks over WAN, Enable file sharing but no body really gives an exact method of connecting remotely. I had one of my daughters try on her Macbook Pro laptop through the finder, connect to server, by giving her the IP address. She could see the name of the Airport Extreme but could not access the hard disk and got a "Not able to connect message". I am obviously missing something simple that needs to be checked or setup but have drained my brain trying to figure it out. Most of the forums describe clicking manuel setup on the Airport utility, but with version 6.1 this is now where to be found. I have a DYN account but could not figure out where to input this in the Airport utility.

I am having an issue where my airport extreme is saying there is no connection to the internet but still shows a green light and the status lights on the cable modem are all good. This is affecting both wired and wireless connection.
Today I had an issue where my iMac (wired) and other wireless devices could not connect to the internet but my work PC (windows 7 and also wired) was connected fine...in fact I was on a VOIP call at the time and had no issues. The only way I have of resolving this issue is to power cycle the airport by unpluging it.
Also, during this time I am unable to access the airport base station through via the airport utilities on my iMac, iPhone, or iPad.I had the same experience yesterday when my airport extreme is green, cable modem has no problem and no internet on wired iMac or no WiFi. After talking to the cable company, there is nothing wrong with the cable modem and the line, the problem is in the System Preference>Network>Advance>DNS of the iMac. I don't know why as it seems like someone just turn my entire set up upside down. The only thing that I can relate to is that I was trying to figure out with Back To My Mac feature in iCloud between office and home.
In the Network, my DNS server somehow is 10.0.1.1 which is internal Apple IP. Take that out and you would see the actual DNS Servers from the providers.
Also when I look at the airport extreme through airport utilities, in Network setting the Router mode is Off (bridge mode). Once change this and everything is good to go. -

After hooking up AirPort Extreme, I cannot get on the Internet
Just installed AirPort Extreme. After following instructions and turning power off several times in attempt to reset, I still cannot get back on the Internet. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am using an older AirPort Extreme as my base station and I want to extend the range by using a recently purchased AirPort Express. When I try to find either device using the AirPort Utilities function on either my new IPad 4 or my older MacBook Pro neither device is detected. However the utility is seeing that we are connected to the Internet which is through the Extreme. What am I doing wrong?
For now, leave the AirPort Express powered off.
Power off the entire network....all devices.....in any order that you want
Wait a few minutes
Power up the modem first, and let it run 2-3 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme next, and let it run a full minute
Keep powering up devices one at a time about a minute apart until everything is powered up (leave the Express off for now)
Open AirPort Utility and check to see if the AirPort Extreme is visible.
If it's not, click the AirPort Utility menu at the upper left of the screen, then click About AirPort Utility. Post back with the version number of AirPort Utility that you see there....which should be AirPort Utility 5.6.1.

Airport Extreme 1st generation not connecting to internet via PPPoE.
The Extreme is replacing an existing Airport Express which successfully connects to the internet. I reset the Airport Extreme to the factory settings and started from there. The internet provider requires it be setup using PPPoE. I've tried several times to set up a new wireless network but the Airport Extreme isn't connecting to the internet, can't find DNS servers. I contacted the internet provider and confirmed that all settings/usernames/passwords are correct. I cycled the power on the DSL modem, unplugging it for several minutes a few times. Finally I took the whole setup to the local Genius Bar. Since they couldn't setup a PPPoE network there, the Apple Tech set up the Extreme using DHCP so we know it works. He suggested that I try replacing the wireless network instead of setting up a new network. I came home and tried that to the same results: no DNS servers and PPPoe not connecting to the internet. Everything in the Extreme is exactly the same as the Express except the Express works and the Extreme doesn't. What am I missing?
Some background:
I purchased and used the Extreme in the US. Now trying to connect it to my MacBook in Canada. I did change the setting in the Extreme to "Canada"
I just the computer to 10.6.8. I ran the Disk Utility to repair the disk permissions several times.If you temporarily connect the modem directly to your MacBook and set up a PPPoE connection on your Mac as a test......can it connect to the Internet that way?

I am having pretty much the same issue.
Got a new modem Arris SB6141 and a new Airport Extreme ME918LL/A. Activated with my ISP (Comcast). Worked with a savy tech who knew the modem and Airport Extreme. Ensured all items were correct from the ISP side.
I follow the instructions as indicated for Airport Extreme by it fails to detect the internet and dns servers. Comcast suggested I call apple. Reading posts above I will:
-Reset the airport extreme
-Unplug the modem for 30min

Is there a way to turn the wireless capabilities off on an AirPort Express? I have an AirPort Extreme as my main router and use the express to just extend it. I only really want to you use the express for hard ethernet connections. For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb. These terrible download speed really only affects the iPhones as my MacBook Pro usually gets the good speed no matter where it is. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my phone because if I am in the part of the house that uses just the extreme the download speeds on the iphone goes up to 50-75mb. As a note I have an AirPort Extreme on the top floor of my house (second floor) that's where my modem is located. On the first floor that's where one airport express is located. I also have another airport express in the basement that is accessed by my landlord. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be helpful.

It appears that your networking goals with the AirPort Express is to use it as a wireless Ethernet bridge instead of using it to extend the wireless range of your AirPort Extreme. The latter requires that the Express Wi-Fi radios be enabled.
If you intended to use the Express as a wireless bridge, you just need to reconfigure it to "Join a wireless" network instead of "Extend a wireless network."
For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb.
In an extended network, the placement of the extending base station is critical as it can only extend the wireless network at the bandwidth at which it receives it.

I have a pc running windows 7. I got an Airport Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi and the printer is now plugged into the Airport. The Airport works fine but the printer shows as offline in control panel and in word. The printer is a HP LaserJet CP1525nw.

This would be the correct setting if the AirPort Extreme is connected to a simple modem (one ethernet port).
*Settings I have Enabled*
5 GHz name indicates that you have elected to use the option to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network. This will allow you to "tell" compatible computers to connect to that network, rather than the slower 2.4 GHz network
Use Wide Channels is recommended for 5 GHz operation.
Interference Robustness often does more harm than good and should not be used unless you know you are in a area with a lot of wireless networks and you feel that your network is experiencing interference issues from a nearby network. -

I might be asking a really dumb question now, I have a Mac Pro, a PC my sons use and a laptop my wife uses. The PC and laptop both run XP Pro.
I have my Airport Extreme set up and working well with my BT Home Hub acting as my modem only - that went much easier than I thought.
All I want to do is to set up a network - my Mac (wired) to my Airport Extreme with a Canon Printer and external hard drive. I also want to be able to share files on the PC and Laptop (wireless) with other users as well as the printers. Ideally, i'm looking for a video website that will easily show how to set this up. I appreciate I may need to view several clips to get this sorted. I have tried YouTube without much success.

In the MobileMe preference pane on the Mac Pro, enable the Back To My Mac feature. Then on your remote Mac the Mac Pro should appear in the Finder's sidebar as a shared item. -
