AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler Problems

I just bought the AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for my 2 GHz MacBook with and Intel Core 2 Duo processor recently and when I try to install it, it tells me, "Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update." I have installed all of the software updates that are available and it is still not working. Anyone have any ideas?!

There isn't much you can do... There are ways of taking apart your macbook and replacing the Airport extreme card inside but it probably isn't worth it. I guess thats about it.
Just next time, make sure you check what hardware you have before buying.

  • AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for Mac 4 use with Touch?

    Hello,
I have a 2nd Gen Touch with the latest updated software. I use Airport to connect to the internet on my new iMac 24". Will the AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler software now offered in the Apple store($1.99) for Mac improve communications between the Touch and my iMac?
    Thanks

Nope. Your touch is still limited to b/g mode wireless. In fact, if you have an all n network, your touch won't even know that it exists.
Most of your Mac to iPod communication is via the USB cable unless you are using Remote or other applications that can move files on and off.
BTW, that software is to enable early intel Macs to use N wireless. If your Mac is relatively new, you won't need it.

  • AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler

The Apple Store page for this 'Enabler' says it comes included with the latest AEBS. If this is so, how do you access the update to install it on your machines? There seems to be a complete lack of information on this.
    Any help greatly appreciated...

I've purchased the update and i am not able to install it. I get as far as to the point where you have to choose the HD where you want to install it in. I get a red exclamation mark saying "You cannot install Airport Extreme 802.11n Enabler on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
I have installed all the software updates and still getting this message....Can anybody help me/tell me what i'm doing wrong?
    Thanks for any help!!

  • AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler not working

Hello, I just installed the Time Capsule software onto my 1st gen MacBook. I saw that it installed the AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler, but after looking at the network utility. All that show up is: Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g), it does not give the little 'n.' I ran the installer twice, but no joy. Any help would be great!
    Thanks!

Go to the Apple menu and select about this Mac. Does it say "Intel Core Duo" or "Intel Core 2 Duo"?
Only the Macs with "Intel Core 2 Duo" processors have the 802.11n hardware. If you Mac book has the "Intel Core Duo" processor the enabler is useless.

i followed all instructions on the Apple Store page before purchasing, including checking my Network Utility to verify whether i needed the software. currently i only have the 802.11 a/b/g adapter. see:

any suggestions? my MacBook is a week 25 model.
    thanks,

Your computer needs to be a Core 2 Duo-based Mac for the enabler to install, as the necessary hardware isn't present on an older processor or a 1.83GHz 17-inch iMac. If your computer supports the enabler, install this software and try installing the enabler again.

  • How to install AirPort Extreme 802.11n Enabler?

I just bought the Airport Extreme and I have the CD that came with it loaded. I'm installing the package that is on the CD and it reads that the following items are available for installation and one of them is the Airport Extreme 802.11n Enabler. I "continue" and it only allows me to do a basic upgrade. How do I know that the Enabler was correctly installed and I can now access using 802.11n?
    I have a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz

Steve, fire up your Network Utility. You can find it in your Utilities folder. From the row of tabs across the top of the window select "Info" - the first option on the left. Nxt select the "network interface for information". You'll be wanting "(en1)". At the bottom of the info you'll see an entry for "Model Wireless Network Adapter". In parenthesis under this title will be "802.11" and some letters. If you see a letter "n" then it means the enabler did its thang!
To actually select how your computer will communicate with that little white box with the green light on the front (um...it is green, isn't it?) then fire up your Airport Utility. Select "Manual" setup. Make sure you have the Airport icon highlighted at the top of the window then select the "Wireless" tab. The "Radio Mode" entry is where you do your bit to select "g", "n" or whatever in 2.4GHz or 5GHz.
I find it best to do one thing at a time. Slower but at least I can undo the mess easily.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11n Enabler software

Today I purchased an Airport Extreme and was able to set it up quickly
on my iMac (2.15 GHz Intel Core Duo). I was also able to connect to it
on my MacBook (2.0 GHz Core Duo). In looking at the connection information
from the Airport the MacBook is connected using 802.11a.
The Apple Store says that the Airport Extreme includes the 802.11n enabler software, but
I was only able to find the software package for controlling the router.
I must be missing something. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry but Core Duo Macs do not have 802.11n hardware.
Only Core 2 Duo Macs have the 802.11n hardware.
The enabler is on the disc but isn't compatible with your Macs.

  • AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for Mac

I just downloaded the enabler for my 20" iMac and when I try to install it, it states "Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update." It's my understanding that only the 17" iMac and the Mac mini aren't supported. Anyone else experience this?

If you recently got you imac and it's a core 2 duo, check if you already have it installed using this quote form appleinsider.com
The company recommends that customers check to make sure that their Mac does not already have the 802.11n enabler installed before purchasing the software patch. To do so, Intel Mac owners should open the "Network Utility" application (found in the Applications > Utilities folder), choose "Network Interface (en1)" under the "Info" tab, and then inspect the information provided under "Model: Wireless Network Adapter." If it says "(802.11a/b/g/n)," the Mac already has the 802.11n enabler installed. If it says (802.11a/b/g), the Mac does not have the 802.11n enabler installed.

  • AirPort Extreme (802.11n) Enabler and Leopard

My MacBook has an 802.11n AirPort card in it. When I bought my Extreme base station, it came with a disk containing an "AirPort Extreme Enabler" (or something to that effect) which I needed to install, in order to activate my card's 802.11n capability.
Now that I have upgraded to Leopard (I did a clean install), do I need to install that enabler, or is that functionality now built in to Leopard?
    Thanks for your help.

    dburr
Go Applications> Utilities > Network Utility then choose Network Interface (en1). it should read Wireless Network Adapter 802.11 a/b/g/n
If this is the case you are "N" enabled.
All the new MBP I have encountered in the last two months or so do not need the enabler.

  • Airport Extreme (802.11n) printing problems

My printer (Brother 1270N) is hooked to one of the Ethernet WAN-ports of my AEBS (802.11n). But I can't see the printer anywhere in the Airport setup utility. So I can't print.
On my older router, the printers IP-adress was easy to spot in the webreader-interface.
Also, I have hooked up the printer directly to the mac, installed and printed with no problem.
But since there's not just my computer on the network, I would obviously prefer to have a network printer ...
    Any comments...?
    PowerBook G4, 1 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I don't believe Brother printers work with the base station. Apple used to publish a list of supported printers but I cant find it any more.

  • Airport Extreme 802.11n Enabler link?

I just installed the Airport Extreme card in my Mac Pro 1,1 and all looks good but where do I find the Airport Extreme Enabler link to finish the installation?
    Thanks!

That software should be included in 10.6.8 if that is what you are running.
Base station support should be in Airport Utility 5.1 or later.
You can check the capabilities under

  • AirPort Extreme (802.11n) dual band is reporting problems?

    Hi.
I can not find an answer for my error-problem:
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) dual band is reporting problems!
I have an optimum on line cable modem connected to my AirPort Extreme (802.11n) dual band.
Ethernet cables connect it 1. into my new Nehalem Mac Pro, 2. into my back-up Quicksilver PowerMac. I also have 2nd gen. iPod touch works on WiFi.
This set-up has been working well but now I daily get the above error. Sometimes it says also: You have different locations set-up and it asks me to go through the set-up procedure. May be I did the initial set-up incorrect. I don't quite understand "locations" and it's purpose.
Also the Airport runs very hot so I put a small fan in front of it. A few times I had to disconnect the cable mains to reset and get back my service. Please help.

Can you tell what's telling you about those locations? An Apple AirPort unit can maintain different "configurations" so that it could be used in different locations without a complete reconfiguration. However, I don't believe they're ever referred to as "locations". On the other hand, a Mac can have multiple "locations" defined in the Network panel of System Preferences. Those can be useful if the Mac is used in different places with different arrangements.
If your AirPort Extreme is having problems the status light on the front will probably be amber. If you launch AirPort Utility and double-click on the AirPort Extreme item on the left, you should be able to see more details about the problem.

  • AirPort Extreme (802.11n) & Epson CX3100 Printer Problem

I recently purchased the new AirPort Extreme 802.11n and tried hooking up my Epson Stylus CX3100 to it. It detects the printer but it only prints the first few lines then stops. I check the status window of the printer and I see no error message whatsoever. I have to turn off the printer to force the paper out. The printer prints fine when connected directly to the iMac.
I was using the Gimp printer driver found in my iMac. Since that didin't work, I tried installing the new Intel drivers from Epson. But when I try adding it to me AEBS using the official driver, I get an Error: -9672 message.
I've already updated my AEBS's firmware to 7.1 before I tested the printer, so I'm not sure if it's a firmware issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I try to setup my network with an Airport Extreme FW7.5.1 (from 2010), an Airport Express FW7.4.2 (from 2010) and an Imac.
Your iMac isn't receiving an IP address at all - the 169.254.x.x is "self-assigned" and indicates it is not receiving the IP address from any router. That won't work.
I'm not sure what you intend to do with the Express so leave it unplugged for now. Use Airport Utility, select your Airport Extreme, click "manual setup", then click the Base Station tab. Note the name of the wireless network it's creating.
Then click the Wireless tab. Make sure the Wireless Mode set to "create a wireless network". Next, consider using no Wireless Security at all, until you've sorted out your problems.
Next, click the Airport pane, then click the Internet pane, then click the Internet connection tab. Next to "Connection Sharing" select "share a public IP address".
Click the TCP/IP tab. Configure IPv4 "using DHCP".
Click Update and let it restart.
Make sure your iMac is connected to the wireless network created by your Extreme. It should then get an IP address of 10.0.1.1 and you should be able to connect.
If this works then we can configure your Express to do whatever you want it to do. If it doesn't work write back and we'll try to figure out what's wrong.
