Airport Extreme (802.11n) - Unable to wirelessly print

I have an airport extreme and have been printing wirelessly (Canon MP510) from my iMac and Macbook since I purchased the AE a little over a month ago. Suddenly I can no longer print from either computer. The only thing I've done differently is to use the printer to make some copies. I don't know if this use has messed something up. The printer shows up as the default printer, but when I call up the info on the printer when it should be printing, it shows that the printer is searching for signal. Hope someone can help.

I was able to get the printer to print again after unplugging the AE and leaving it off for a minute, then replugging. Printer works again, YEAH!!!

You may want to try reinstalling Mavericks. Airport Utility installed by Mavericks may no longer connect to your older AEBS (though I've not heard that.) Installing the Old AirPort Utility (Version 5.6) on Mountain Lion | frank.is.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
     Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
     Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.

AirPort Extreme 802.11n as a wireless router and local network switch?

I'm curious if its possible to have the APE in wireless network mode and connect systems via hard line as well?
I have an AirPort Extreme 802.11n set to "Create a Wireless Network" mode that is attached directly to a cable modem for internet connectevity. My issue is that while all wireless devices (several iPods, two iPhones and three laptop computers) connect to the APE without issue (and have internet access), when I try to plug in a Windows 7 desktop computer via one of the ethernet jacks, Windows is unable to connect and shows the network as "unidentified," spitting back a private IP address as opposed to a local LAN (this behavior repeats for an Ubuntu Linux box as well).
Not sure if the APE is misconfigured, this is a Windows 7 issue or if its improper use on my part (though this also precludes me from connecting a gigabit switch to the APE).

Properly configured, the AirPort should provide both wired and wireless network client with Internet access.
At this point, I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
Power-up your computer(s).
If the above steps do not solve the problem, start over with step 1 above, but then perform the next steps between steps 1 & 2. above.
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Continue with step 2 in the first set of steps.
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

Using Airport Extreme (802.11n) with Netgear Wireless Modem Router

I have a quick question, can I use the Airport Extreme in a wireless modem router?(http://www.netgear.co.uk/wirelessadslrouterdg834g.php)
By plugging the Airport into the Netgear router would I be able to by pass and run a network this way. I have a 802.11n enabled MacBook and Apple TV, the Netgear is the weakest link!!!

neptune2000's post was implying that you connect the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to the Netgear.
The AEBS does NOT contain a modem. Therefore you will need a modem, either the Netgear or another.

This would be the correct setting if the AirPort Extreme is connected to a simple modem (one ethernet port).
*Settings I have Enabled*
5 GHz name indicates that you have elected to use the option to assign a separate name to the 5 GHz network. This will allow you to "tell" compatible computers to connect to that network, rather than the slower 2.4 GHz network
Use Wide Channels is recommended for 5 GHz operation.
Interference Robustness often does more harm than good and should not be used unless you know you are in a area with a lot of wireless networks and you feel that your network is experiencing interference issues from a nearby network.

Unable to connect to an airport extreme 802.11n wifi using airport utility

I have an Airport Extreme 802.11N Wi-Fi, i connect it to my cable router and i can access the internet using the default setting on the WIFI.
However the status light is blinking yellow.
I try to use the Airport utility to connect to the Airport Extreme however i am unable to connect.
The error message as follows" An error occur while trying to access the apple wireless device. Make sure your network connection is valid and try again"
I know that i am connect to the Airport Extreme Wi-Fi, i can browse the internet but i need to access the device to change the security and SSID name etc.
Can anyone help.

AirPort Extreme (802.11n) & Epson CX3100 Printer Problem

I recently purchased the new AirPort Extreme 802.11n and tried hooking up my Epson Stylus CX3100 to it. It detects the printer but it only prints the first few lines then stops. I check the status window of the printer and I see no error message whatsoever. I have to turn off the printer to force the paper out. The printer prints fine when connected directly to the iMac.
I was using the Gimp printer driver found in my iMac. Since that didin't work, I tried installing the new Intel drivers from Epson. But when I try adding it to me AEBS using the official driver, I get an Error: -9672 message.
I've already updated my AEBS's firmware to 7.1 before I tested the printer, so I'm not sure if it's a firmware issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

USB Printing AirPort Extreme 802.11n

I've upgraded to the new AirPort Extreme 802.11n base station and am having troubles printing to printers that worked fine with my previous AirPort Extreme 802.11g base station.
Both USB printers are detectable for set-up in the Print & Fax Preference tab and can be printed to when hooked directly to my computer. They are also detectable for set-up in the Print & Fax Preference tab when hooked via the base station.
So, all set-up and settings are fine. The issue I am having which never occurred before is that the file is sent to the queue but is immediately labeled as stopped and will not print no matter what I try.
I've configured, reconfigured, reset,you name it but with no luck.
does anyone have any answers out there. Please help...

I have had the same issue repeatedly after upgrading to Leopard. I can no longer use my printer (Brother HL-2070N the "network ready one") with my airport extreme router. It used to show up before I updated to 10.5.2, now I can't even get it to show up at all. I reset the base station, unplugged, and then re-plugged in the printer, nothing worked. Then I tried to just delete it from my list of printers and re-add it, but now my computer can't find it! I didn't change anything on my network at all, and I had literally printed something just 10 minutes before I applied the update. Very frustrating for a $180 router.

Use a powered USB hub between the AE and the printer.. the usb port does sometimes have issues.
Try deleting the printer in the Mac and reinstall it.. the change in AE can represent effectively a change of printer.. it is important to make sure that is all up to date.
Beyond that.. USB printers.. ughhh! Consider for two toners you can go and buy a proper network printer.

AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi doesn't connect to printer

So, I got the AirPort Extreme 802.11N Wi-Fi connected and working to my cable modem (good times), but now neither computer (PC or Mac) can connect through it to the printer (HP C4280 Aii-in-One) that we connected to the USB port on the back of it.
Any idea what we're doing wrong here? Is there something that needs to be configured within the software of the router?

Work your way through the Apple Troubleshooting Guide to see if that will help get the printer going.
Bear in mind that only the print function will be supported when your device is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme. Scan, copy, fax, maintenance etc. are not supported, so if you need these functions, you will need to connect your all-in-one directly to the computer.
The PC will need to have Bonjour for Windows installed. It's on the CD that came with the AirPort Extreme.

Airport Extreme 802.11n (4th Generation) vs. MBP 2006. The MBP is losing :(

GRRRRRRRRR— I feel like this is a version of a problem I see repeated here endlessly, but none of the threads I see about it is quite the same, or fixes my problem.      We have a network with:
Airport Extreme 802.11n (4th generation), connected to DSL modem. Firmware 7.5.2
MBP 2006, running OS 10.6.7 ****
MBP 2008, running OS 10.5.x
ipads, iphone, shared printer, drive, etc.
Everything works fine EXCEPT the MBP 2006. It connects to the network, works for a while, and then after a certain amount of time (anywhere between a minute and several hours) it's dropped. The menu bar still shows a connection and full signal, but there's no connection (TCP or afp) and when I launch the Aiport Utility, it just says that no base stations can be found.   The menu bar seems to be lying. Using the menu to turn Airport off and back on (or sleeping the laptop) works to reestablish the connection.
I do not have this problem with the MBP 2006 on other wireless networks (at work, or at my other home in another city). Just with the Airport Extreme
I've tried changing the channels, disabling IPv6 on the laptop and on the Airport Extreme, setting up a manual DHCP address, and changing the setting for "radio mode" of the base station from Automatic to 802.11a/n - 802.11b/g/n.   I also read that there might be troubles with "mixed" networks with both 802.11g and 802.11n, so I upgraded the Airport card in my MBP 2006 to an AirPort Extreme 802.11 a/b/g/n, which made disk sharing much faster when it's working, but didn't put an end to the cut-outs
Hjalp? Why does the Airport Extreme keep dropping my MBP 2006 (or vice versa)? Are there other things I should be changing or disabling?

OK, two possible leads:
1) Using the AirPort Utility, I disabled 802.11n, setting the AirPort Extreme to b/g only. This seemed to help— I didn't fall off the network all afternoon. (Setting it to 'n' only did not work, unfortunately, or else that would have been better, since it would have let me take advantage of the faster speeds for Time Machine to the shared disk)
2) Soon thereafter, for seemingly independent reasons, we starting having trouble with our DSL connection. We reset the AEBS to factor settings, which didn't solve the DSL problem (had to get a Windstream technician out for that), but since that reset, I've been connected with 802.11a and the MBP hasn't fallen off the wireless network once.
We'll see how it holds up, but for now, the recommendation seems to be first to reset the AEBS settings to factory default, and then try disabling 802.11n...

I now have 802.11g airport router and wish to up grade to n. I have a new Macbook Pro and MacBook Air with n capability. Also have a wireless printer, air express and a wi-fi sony blue ray player. Am I going to have problems switching all these over?

In addition to Bob's remarks:
If it works now on your "g" network, it will work on the new one. But: you don't want the down compatibility from n to g.
Especially if you have the new Extreme with the 2 bands (2.4 and 5GHZ): the 5GHz band, although a somewhat lower sending power/reach is MUCH faster.
Like Bob said (he is the WIFI master) the printer and bluray player may have their own "specialty" behaviour.
The printer probably will not give a problem if you do not use its own wireless but connect it to the extreme with usb cable.
The bluray player I don't know, you should try it connected to the extreme.
Unlikely that, when connected directly, they will give problems.

Timed Access not working on new Airport Extreme (802.11n).

I bought a new Airport Extreme (802.11n) to use as a router for my network. The network has a mixture of Macs and PCs, using a mixture of wired and wireless connections.
I configured the security settings with on the Airport Extreme to Timed Access. I set the default setting is to No Access.
Three computers are set with "Everyday, Between 8:00am and 11:00pm"; however, when it's 11:00pm, nothing happens. The three computers continue to have access.
I know the MAC addresses I entered are correct. Does anyone know why the Timed Access is not working?

Yes, the printer was initially set the same way it always was on my old router. It used to pop right up on the list. After I switched I was getting communication errors. Ok, new setup, I wasn't worried yet. When I got to the setup window and it a new printer wasn't found I tried updating drivers. No luck. I then used the IPP mode to enter the IP address with the address on the Canon screen. It failed. I then did the same setup telling it which software from the driver list to use. It still could not see it. The odd part is that the Canon can obviously see the router as its LAN setting read active and it is receiving the IP. I have proceeded to play with every setting on the printer and it is back to factory reset. Oh, I should mention that I have also tried to use Canons network setup utility software and it can not find the connection either. So I really think this is a problem within the router. I have seen many complaints about this on other forums, but most were looking to use the usb on the print server. My Airport is nowhere near my printer and I don't want to lose my all-in-one functions. Some think hard lined ethernet is ancient, but it really is a nice setup. Fast and reliable.

The answer depends on what you need the TC to accomplish. If all you need it to do is perform Time Machine backups, simply have it join your existing network in client mode. It would be if it were to connect to your existing router (presumably your Extreme), not through an "extended" wireless network (presumably your Express).
If you need the TC to "extend" your network so as to serve additional wireless clients, you can do that also. Configure it to "extend" the network created by your Extreme.
As you can see it's quite versatile.

Not able to see disk connected to AirPort Extreme 802.11n

I just installed my AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wireless Base station. Wireless internet works like a charm, however, I cannot see my external hard disk when it is connected to the base station (amber light blinking and when checking the problem, I am told that "Disk needs repair"). When connecting the hard disk directly to the PC, I have no problem seeing the data. Any tips or tricks out there... ?

I finally got my 500 GB Western Digital MyBook USB drive to work by reformatting it to HFS+ format.
Of course, before I could do that, I had to copy all my files onto another hard drive. That job took a day to accomplish.
I work with Poser, and have a lot of content installed... We're talking thousands of files.
Once the drive was reformatted to HFS+ format, I copied everything back over. That took another day. Then I connected to the AEBS.
The USB drive was immediately recognized. It was incredibly easy to access the USB drive on my PCs. It required no effort on my part, except to supply the password.
In the end, I've decided this effort is a failure.
The drive is way too slow for my needs. Also, one of my vital Poser utilities (CorrectReference Pro) will not work properly with the USB drive on the AEBS.
I am currently in the process of copying all those files over to two external USB hard drives attached to my other PC.
Then I plan to unmount my 500 GB MyBook drive, and reformat it back to NTFS. I'll let the Notebook PC have it on a direct connection again.
I have a couple "junk" External Hard drives that are 160 GB. Maybe I'll use one of those as an Airport disk...
But I won't be using the Airport disk for anything important. It's too slow.
