Airport Extreme, Airport Tool compatibility

I have an old airport extreme I want to use temporarily to have WI FI in my house, but my version of the airport tool doesn't support the airport extreme? How can I go wireless?

I have an old airport extreme
There are a number of versions of the "old" AirPort Extreme. Can you please provide the model number of this device?  It is on the bottom of the AirPort.....starts with an "A" followed by four numbers.
but my version of the airport tool
What version do you have?  If you are not sure, open AirPort Utility and click on the AirPort Utility menu, then click About AirPort Utility and post back with the version number that you see there.

  • How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme? My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured" and my AirPort tool on my PC will not permit me to add my new Airport Extreme network (no network names to choose from)

How to connect old aiport express to my new Airport Extreme?
I have a PC running with Win7 and just replaced my Jensen With a brand New Airport Extreme.
I have set up the Airport Extreme to the internet, Iphones and Ipads and it work as it should.
I have downloaded latest Version of Airport tool on my PC. In addition i have downloaded the airport tool for Ipad.
I have reset one of my airport Express and it now shows up both on the Ipad and on the PC airport tool.
My Ipad says "base station e5713b cannot be configured."
I have wired the airport Express to my Ethernet to be able to "see it" on my Airport tool.
My AirPort tool on the PC will not permit me to add the airport Express to my new Airport Extreme network (no network names on the drop-down list to choose from). I wished for an easy set-up, but nothing seems to be plug and play as the Commercial says.. can you please help me?

    Hi
    Thanks for Swift reply.
Yep - I in fact have two A1088 and one A1264
I actually bought the new router because the Jensen
router always lost connection to the Airport Express after some hours or days. I
always needed to restart my Jensen to play music and that was driving my wife
mad. The hope was that the Extreme should fix this. Both A1088 have been set up
to only stream music to two of my stereo amplifiers from my PC’s Itunes library.
    Are the A1088 now useless?
The A1264 has been set up to feed internet into a Denon Reciever that needed Ethernet cable.
    Please advise
    Regards
    Sigve

  • I can not install the Express after the Extreme tha AirPort tool is of no help. It does not display any base station.

I can not install the Express after the Extreme tha AirPort tool is of no help. It does not display any base station.

What is the exact model of the AirPort Express that you are trying to install? Which version of the AirPort Utility are you using? What is the operating system and version, and on what device, are you running the AirPort Utility on?

I just got my new Macbook Pro, and found out that my Airport-tool for my Airport Extreme (old version) can not be installed on my harddrive. Can anybody me help out. Sorry about the Danish.
    Thank you in advance.

If you are trying to install AirPort Utility 5.6.1........this application is only for Snow Leopard and Leopard Macs.
Since you are using Lion, you need to download and install......

  • Connecting the PC by using the AirPort tool

I am using the AirPort tool to set up my wireless PC. The PC can recognize the AirPort unit, but when trying to set up the PC, there is "no connection to Apple network". And the indicator on the PC is amber, all through the indicator on the AirPort is stable green.
My PC has been rebooted and the AirPort Extreme has been returned to factory settings.
I can establish connection to the internet through windows, but that is not enough.

    Direct connect
To move files by connecting your Mac directly to your PC:
Connect your Mac to your PC using a standard Ethernet cable.
Make sure that both computers are turned on.
In the Finder on your Mac, choose Connect to Server from the Go menu to open the window.
Type your PC's network address in the Server Address text box using one of these formats:
    smb://DNSname/ShareName
    smb://IPaddress/ShareName
    Click Connect.
Follow the onscreen instructions to enter your PC's workgroup name, user name, password, and the volume or folder you wish to access.
Your PC volume should appear on your Mac Desktop.
Open the volume and drag and drop files directly from it to anywhere on your Mac.
When finished, drag your PC volume to the Trash to unmount it.

  • I have installed airport express and it lights steady green. But when I use the airport tool, nothing can be found.

I have installed airport express on my Window 7 and had problem to find the airport express.
I solved the problem by turning off my AVG firewall and  the airport tool found the airport express and it went steady green.
I then turned on the AVG firewall again and it continues ok.
But when I turn off and restarted my laptop I have to follow the same procedure.
The AVG firewall is set to All Allowed for the airport express.
Is there anybody out there that can give assistance to solve this problem?

    Hi,
I solved the problem myself by updating the Wi-fi driver.
    Now it works perfect.

  • Airport Extreme & Airport Card Compatibility

I have a G5 1.8 dual running 10.4.7 and a G4 450 dual running 10.4.7. If I purchase the Airport Extreme & hook it up directly to my G5, and the Airport Card for the G4, will everything work or are there some compatability issues?
    Thanks, Gronky
    G5 1.8 dual   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   G4 450 dual OS X (10.4.7)

if you set the base station in compatability mode (so it supports both b and g operation) then it will support connections from the older 802.11b airport card as well as from more modern airport extreme and equivalent 802.11g cards

  • IBook G4 with Airport Extreme / NetGear WGT624 Compatability?

I have a NetGear WGT624 Super G router connected to a Wild Blue modem (1 Mbs). My daughter has an iBook G4 Airport Extreme Ready, but no wireless card. If I order the Airport Extreme card and install it for her will it connect and work with my wireless router? If so, are there and special setup actions?

Yes, it will work. The only special set up that you'll need to do is enter the WEP /WPA password assuming that you've got security turned on. I hope that this helps.

  • Is Airport Extreme (802.11n) compatable with Skype (2.8.0.866)?

When trying to video chat Skype indicates my airport wireless router is not capable of video chatting? I'm thinking of buying a new wireless router if this is the case. Can this be true?

Skype works well with my Airport Extreme or Time Capsule.
Do you have any firewalls turned on?

  • Airport Extreme Ricoh Printer Compatability

Ricoh CL4000 printer works with a direct USB cable to the PowerBook G4 laptop. When connected to the airport USB port, the printer is not seen by the airport or the printer set up utility. The Ricoh USB port is 2.0 is this causing the problem with the airport? Any other solutions to wireless printing.
    thanks
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iMac G5

There have only been 2 Airport Express (AEX) models, the first only went up to 802.11g and could not do an ethernet bridge, and the second one which went to Draft-N (since updated through firmware) and did bridge. The model number for the one you want is MB321LL/A. Do not buy any that do not have 802.11n. Apple sells refurbished models online for $69 USD.

  • All-in-one modem-routers vs Airport Express: compatibility

    Hi,
I just recently purchased an Airport Express 802.11n for my friend as a birthday gift, she would use it mainly for music streamng purpose.
Her first router was linksys WAG120N. Day 1, I set it up by making AX connects wirelessly to my WAG120N and then from AX to Speakers with audio cable, no problems were found.
Then after a while, the wireless speakers just disappeared from 2 Iphones and a PC running itune connecting within the same WLAN(not visible, light still green, internet access with LAN from AX still works)
After several days of trying to figure out the problems, I found this thread
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11971848?messageID=11971848
which is the exact same case, so then i knew it was compatibility issue.
I took it back to my place which WLAN is running with wrt54g+DD-WRT, everything seems to be ok. wireless speakers can be connected after trying a few times, each time few hours apart without touching the AX. so I knew wrt54g is good for AX.
I know that in that thread the problem was fixed by using D-link router(dont know which model).
    I dont really like D-link,
Apple base routers are expensive, AX was enough as a gift.
    All-in-one is easier for her.
and I want Wireless-N for my friend(and for the future) so I bought a new all-in-one modem-router Belkin surf
    http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=511881
    The exact same problem happens
so now I'm very frustrated, and in need of a list of compatible wireless-N all-in-one modem-router
So far the list that I have
    NOT working
    Linksys WAG120N
    Belkin Surf
    working
    wrt54g+DD-WRT
    Thanks

    Hello,
    I have the same problem.
I have a new Apple Express updated to the latest version of the firmware 7.1.6. The AE is part of my wireless home network which is built with a Cisco WAG120N router running the latest firmware 1.0.0.16.
On this network I have 2 Samsung plasma TV's, 2 Samsung Blu Ray players, 2 Asus W7 laptops, 1 HP Colour Laser Printer, 2 iPhone's 4 and 1 iPad III. Everything only wireless connected and all works fine, no problems, good performance very stable, I can watch HBO GO via Internet directly on the big Samsung’s without any issue.
I purchased the AE to play my iTunes music on my home hifi system without cables and changes albums without leaving the couch.
My problem is that I don't get the AE stable to work.
The AE utility running under W7 only occasionally locates the AE, god thanks it did the first time so I could install it. To connect to the AE I have to type in the IP address in configure other in the utility. Then I change nothing and just do an update whereby the AE is reset I believe.
After that my AE works for about half an hour then it stops. In iTunes it most of the time shows error 15006, sometimes it just stops. After connecting again with the utility via the IP address and doing a dummy update with works again at least most of the time for another half hour. All this time I am able to see the AE in my Cisco network tool (Magic) as up and running and is the light on AE green.
I changed all settings one by one in my Cisco router to the way it is described in Apples troubleshooting documents. I even took it out of the DHCP scope of my router and gave it it's own fixed IP address. I have not took it out of my wireless network as that would kill my ability to play my music via iMatch and iCloud anymore.
I have this problem with both W7 PC's and the iPad. I have not tried the iPhones.
I don't know what to do anymore and am very disappointed about the Apples support on this subject. Is this their way of forcing customer to go buy a Time Capsule!
Somebody out there with an idea or hopefully the solution?
    Many thanks in advance.

  • Airport Tool cant find my Express.. HELP!

Just mended an old b/g Airport Express because the power supply was broken.
I set it up so it would extend my wireless network with the Airport Extreme and everything worked just fine. Later i tried to set up Airfoil but Airfoil could never find the Express.
So i tried to update the firmware to the same as it was, I waited for it for 15 minutes but it was still saying something like "updating firmware" in the Airport Utility. So i disconnected the power and hoped I could try again. *BUT.... Now it never shows up in Airport Utility.*
    What can i do?

Welcome to the discussion area, NikeNike!
I suggest that you perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Express and then try to update or reconfigure it.
Power the Express off for at least 10 minutes
Hold in the reset button and while you continue to hold the reset button in, plug the Express back in to power
Keep holding the reset button until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly, keep holding another second or two when you see this, and then release the reset button.
Temporarily, connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the AirPort Express and then open AirPort Utility to update the firmware as needed or reconfigure the device. You can disconnect the ethernet cable after you have the Express updated with new settings and then move the Express to the location where it's needed.

  • Airport Snow compatability with new MacBook Pro?

    Hi
I was given an old Airport (one of the originals) "Snow" model and was wondering if there is an imcompatability issue with the new MacBook Pro laptops and their modern Airport Extreme Cards with the older basic Airports?
Anyone know if this is the case?

    No.
An 802.11g (Extreme) client should be able to connect to a 802.11b (original Airport) base station.

  • Airport Express Compatability

Hey, i just bought my first Mac, which is and iBook G3 M9018LL/A. I am a total newb at Apple and Airport and was wondering if Airport Extreme is compatible with my mac or is there a previous version.

Congrats on your first purchase. I think you would be referring to the original Airport card (802.11B only) that can be found here: http://www.welovemacs.com/ibkap.html

  • Airport Express compatability with Vonage

I just switched from a pc to an imac 20". I use an airport wireless router. It appears that my internet connection is broken when I receive or try to make a call via my Vonage phone system.
    All advice is greatly appreciated.

This printer should work. Start by following the advice at:
Printer troubleshooting for AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express
Also, use the Airport Admin Utility to check the firmware version running on your Airport Express. If it is 6.2, install 6.1.1 from:
