Airport Extreme and early MacBook Pro

In reading the available text about the airport extreme, I see there's an 802.11n upgrade for machines with an Intel Core 2 Duo. My MBP has a Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo. Am I "n" capable?
Thx.

Sorry, but no the Core Duo version of the MBPs can not be upgraded. If you require "n" capability, you will have to resort to a third-party solution, like the products offered by QuickerTek or Other World Computing (OWC).

  • Airport Extreme and 15" Macbook Pro (2006 - Intel)

I am having an issue with my MacBook Pro staying connected to my Internet. I am using an Airport Extreme and it is running the updated firmware. For some reason its also affecting my iPhone (3G), but not my new iMac. My iMac stays connected while the Internet connection for both the iPhone and MacBook Pro work for a little while and then just stop. If I unplug the airport extreme, they work again but only for a little while. I tried to reset the modem, but that has no effect (and besides the fact that the iMac remains connected to the Internet. Any ideas?

  • Airport extreme compatible with MacBook Pro 15" 2.33 GHz ?

I just purchased a macbook pro and an airport extreme card to go with it. Now when I've researched it a little furhter I'm not sure if the airport extreme card will work with my new laptop. I received the card but am still waiting for the PC to arrive - anyone out there know if they're compatable with each other ? I've just switched from MS to Mac so I'm not all that familar with the hardware or op systems - thanks.

The bad news is that your Mac is NOT compatible with the AirPort Extreme card.
The good news is that your MacBook Pro has wireless ability built-in. MacBook Pro (Late 2006) - Technical Specifications

  • Airport Extreme timeout on MacBook Pro 15

My Airport Extreme suddenly can't be accessed from my Mac Book Pro 5.1
I use 10.5.7 and have reset factory settings on the Extreme from my Ethernet wired iMac, plus Airport is useable by the other Mac at home via Airport. So the hardware/firmware Airport Extreme presumably is good.
To make it even more strange, the Mac Book Pro Airport function is OK at work where I can still connect! So prima-face all hardware is good.
On startup at home the Macbook Pro says None of my preferred networks are available, but it sees the neighbors network. If I go 'other', it shows my network and the password. Then one of two things happen:
I get timeout, or it 'appears' to log on BUT there is no browsing in Firefox or Safari.
Network status shows Airport with a green light, but Airport Settings as failed.
Done multiple resets, removed Airport Preferences and restarted. All in vain!
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Same problem here. There are several other threads with this problem. For me, it is a range issue - doesn't work in my office, although my iphone and desktop work just fine.

  • AirPort Extreme 802.11n macbook pro

I have just set up time capsule and it works perfectly (painless process setting this up!) One query i have is re: AirPort Extreme 802.11n.
I have a macbook pro 2.16GHz core duo, and according to network utility i have Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g). I have attempted to update this but I get the message that my computer:
Your computer does not meet the hardware requirements for this update.
Can i update or not? I have not restarted my comp since installing time capsule, would that maybe make a difference?

Sorry but "Core Duo" Macs do not have the 802.11n hardware.
Only "Core 2 Duo" Macs have the appropriate hardware.

  • Is it neccessary to buy an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme for my macbook pro to connect WI FI or wireless?

so I have a macbook pro, but i don't know whether i need to buy an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme to connect to WI FI or wireless.   or i only need to modem??
    HELP!!! :'(

Airport Extreme is used by Apple for its wireless routers and the hardware inside your MacBook Pro that is used to connect to a wired or wireless router. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort_Extreme#AirPort_Extreme_Base_Station
While Apple would like you to buy everything from them you can use any brand that will work with Macs. My setup is a Qwest DSL modem connected to a NetGear wireless router. The Airport Extreme card inside my MacBook recognizes them without any problems

  • Airport express and new macbook pro

my daughter has just purchased a new macbook pro and we have set up the airport express. her macbook tells her that she is connected to the airport express but she can not load safari.

Hello Jodi Meyer. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
How do you have the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) configured to get Internet access? That is, do you have it connected directly to another router or modem? If so, what is the make/model number of that other device?

  • AirPort Extreme connects to MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPhone

Using the airport extreme, everything will connect and apps that require Internet connectivity will work, however, email apps on iPhone & MacBooks will not access server. Therefore, we cannot access our email on our phones or MacBooks. Any ideas what is causing this?

Chances are that if you can access all services via the Internet on all of your devices, except mail, then there is a good chance that either your ISP or your email provider is blocking you at their server. I would suggest starting with either of these two and verify that is not the case before any further troubleshooting of your local network.

  • AirPort Extreme and HP Officejet Pro 8000

I have had to replace my existing wireless router with an AirPort Extreme router.  When I connect the printer to the router with a cable the system sees the printer and can print perfectly fine.  However, when disconnect the printer cable and try and use the wireless connection the printer disapears and the connection is lost.
What am I forgeting to do?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

By connecting the printer to the router with a cable, you are using Ethernet. The Ethernet cable will have to be plugged in at all times to print through network.
In order to connect wireless, you will need to have wireless printer. Do you have the Officejet 8000 wireless, or just the Officejet 8000. What is your product number, found on the back of the printer?
If it is wireless, you will need to plug in the USB cable from the printer to the computer.
    1. Go to your HP folder under ALL PROGRAMS.
    2. Choose your printer, and click on WIRELESS CONFIGURATION.
    3. After that, you will choose Convert USB to Wireless.

  • Port Forwarding for Two Macs, one Airport Extreme and one Dynalink RTA1320

I had previously set up PortForwarding for some of my Applications on my iMac with an Ethernet connected Dynalink RTA1320 Modem by assigning myself a Static IP in the iMac`s Network Preferences.
All had been good, green smilies on Azureus when D/Ling bitorrents, Skype, WoW and Limewire all running fine.
I`ve now just recently purchased the latest Airport Extreme and 17" MacBook Pro.
Setting up a Wireless Network for the two Macs to access the internet was a breeze and both computers run fine online simultaneously.
I manually set the Ports on the MBP Applications: Skype, Azureus and Limewire to match the Ports I`d previously PortForwarded the RTA1320 to.
However, on the new MBP, Skype, Azureus and Limewire don`t seem to run too well.
I get yellow smilies on Azureus and a "Port Appears Closed" message on the NAT Test and my Skype Contacts are leaving me messages saying I always appear "off-line".
The iMac Apps still work flawlessly.
I`m guessing the problem is something to do with two Macs on a Wireless Network with one Static IP Address or what am I doing wrong?

Which version of the utility will work on my MacBook, and still control the older Airport Extreme?

if I update the Airport to the latest version, and "control" it with my MacBook Pro, will the older G4 still be able to use the signal from the new Airport?
Yes. Your G4 shouldn't have any difficulty connecting to a Wi-Fi network provided by the latest 802.11ac AirPorts as they support the earlier radio modes that the G4 uses.

  • How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8)

How does one continue to use Mail on the early MacBook Pro, Model 1,1, that is not upgradable to Lion?  I have been running iCloud on my iPhone (OS5) and iMac (Lion) along with the MacBook Pro (OS Version 10.6.8) since November until now.  Mail will no longer download on the MacBook Pro and keeps asking for my password.

Mail should still be usable with your machine - but you'll need to update the settings to conform to the requirements of your system. Check with your ISP (like ATT, etc.) for the settings that will work with your Mail. Once you've updated this, you should be able to email like before.
For example, my ISP required that I go to Mail Preferences/Accounts and make sure the details conform to your email settings.
I have no idea of what your ISP is or what the settings might be, but this is likely the source of the problem.

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    6. System Preferences > Sound> Sound Effects
        Play sound effects through:
Select "Internal speakers" and then back to "Selected sound output device".

    BDAqua,
    Thanks for the response.
Apple has used the term "Digital Audio" to identify this machine.  System Profiler has the following information:
    Machine Name:          Power Mac G4
      Machine Model:          PowerMac3,5
      CPU Type:          PowerPC G4  (2.1)
      Number Of CPUs:          1
      CPU Speed:          800 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):          256 KB
      Memory:          768 MB
      Bus Speed:          133 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          4.3.3f2
      Serial Number:          XBxxxxxMK9
      Sales Order Number:
Yes, I could connect them by ethernet if all I wanted to do was transfer files, but I would like to network them so I could use wireless internet.  The machines are not always so close together, I did that to simplify the testing.  With the very slow transfer speeds I am reluctant to move ahead with the internet step.
