Airport Extreme and Fios.... I had fios hooked up today (Internet and phone only)... Want to my aebs as the primary and wireless network. Would someone be able to provide step by step instructions because I cannot figure it out. Thanks!

I had fios hooked up today and am about to rip my hair out... Would someone be able to share step-by-step instructions for connecting my airport extreme base station. I want to use it as my primary for everything including wireless (fios is Internet and phone only ). ThNk you in advance.

Thanks for taking the time to detail that. I think I have it, but I have a few things to clarify.
1. This negates the need for the Westell Series3 9100EM, because, the "router" mentioned in the line "Hook an Ethernet cable from the ONT to the router's WAN jack" is the Apple Extreme Base Station (or other suitable router), right?
2. I haven't got the TV portion of FIOS service, although I may add that at some point, so in my case the COAX to NIM (and the NIM for that matter) aren't needed, right?
I see a couple of issues. One, I have COAX run for the current connection. And, two, Verizon would need to come out again to do the CAT5 configure. Can the CAT5 run be that long and still be effective? Maybe the Westell router could be used to extend the wireless network? And, if FIOS TV is added could it be used in place of the NIM (since I already have the COAX and the Westell at the back of the TV)?
Regardless, I REALLY appreciate your help. On a side note, it's interesting that the NIM takes both the COAX and CAT5.

Thats the problem I bought it from a very large thrift store. i went back asked the person where I bought the computer he said we can not give you the password. I thought buying it there was a good idea because not only was it a nice deal but it was like I was maknig a donation. I know that i messed up because i do not have the installation disk. I bought it without thinking. Until recently I was still using an old G4 9.0 os. I guess you can say I have been out of the loop for a while.

  • Airport Extreme and Wireless Printing

Okay so i know that you can make wireless printing by simply connecting your printer to the airport extreme. However I have a wireless printer and i read somewhere that the extreme does not allow the wireless printer to be discovered when used with the extreme. I want to know if this is true. I currently use a linksys router and whenever i print something, the first time takes forever for it to detect the printer. I am hoping that a newer router will help but i want to know if the extreme does support wireless printers.

Same issue here. I recently upgraded to an Airport Extreme and can no longer print wirelessly. Before this router I used a different brand of wireless router and had no issues. When I go to the printer itself, an HP OfficeJet 7410, and look for networks on the little display it can see mine and the neighbors. However, when I tell it to join the network it gives me an error message along the lines of "Cannot join this network." New network password has been entered.

  • Airport Extreme and NAS (Network Attached Storage)

I am using a brand new AirPort Extreme (ver. 7.4.2) connected to a Motorola cable modem, with two different MacBooks running Snow Leopard, two AirPort Express units for distributing music wirelessly around the house, and an HP multifunction printer connected to the Extreme via USB, all of which works fine.
But I recently purchased a 1TB Iomega Home Media network attached storage device (NAS), which is connected to the Extreme via ethernet cable, and I can't get the Extreme or either MacBook to recognize the NAS drive. The NAS doesn't "mount" on the desktop like a USB external drive would. It doesn't appear under "Shared" in Finder. It doesn't appear in AirPort Utility under "AirPort disks". Oddly enough the only place where the NAS does appear is in iTunes under "Shared"!
I know that the NAS device is functioning properly because my IT guy tested it at the office, connected to his PC, and it worked fine. The NAS came with Iomega "Home Storage Manager" software, which I installed but it's pretty useless because it also can't "find" the NAS and only offers to re-scan for it.
Much to my surprise there is very little information about troubleshooting NAS storage with the Extreme, either on the Support forums or in the "Apple Airport Networks" document published by Apple in early 2009.
I would greatly appreciate any guidance!
    Thanks in advance,
    MG

Thanks to both of you for your input. The Iomega NAS (Home Media Network Hard Drive is the model) comes ready out of the box for use with either PC or Mac.
Actually I resolved the problem by going to Iomega's tech support page. I needed to download an updated version of the Home Storage Manager software as well as 2 firmware updates to the NAS drive itself; so that it would be compatible with Snow Leopard. That was the issue. Now it appears to be working just fine.
    Thanks again & happy holidays.

  • Verizon Fios - Airport Extreme AND Airport Express drop IP Address

    Hi everyone,
I am absolutely BEGGING for help here! I am so frustrated with Verizon Fios that I can hardly take it. The scenario - the crummy Actiontec router that Verizon provided us when we got service 10 months ago shot craps recently. So, I got out my Airport Extreme to see if that would work. After 30 minutes of tech support I got it working, only to have all kinds of trouble with what they told me after FURTHER hours of tech support, was that my router was dropping the IP address.
So, knowing that I can't possibly be the only Verizon customer using an Apple router, I thought it was the Airport Extreme unit itself. I went out and got an Airport Express, and again, I am resetting my router or calling Verizon tech support at least once a day, if not more, to break the lease and get a new IP address. It's killing me. I can't live life like this.
Can ANYONE help me figure out how to get this scenario to work without having to purchase another crappy, ugly Actiontec router? I don't have FIOS TV, just internet. I can't tell you how much I would appreciate the help. It's driving me insane!!
    Thanks so much in advance.

It appears that I am in same boat. I got FIOS last October and it worked seamlessly with my Airport Extreme/Express network for months. All of a sudden, we couldn't get to the internet after returning from vacation in late August. Reset, reconfigured, and tinkered with the Airport extreme and our computers, but could not get out to internet even though we could still print and see each other over the airport network. Contacted Verizon and they told me that they do not support the airport and that we have to use their Actiontec router for Internet access. Told them that we had been using our Airport, connected to their Actiontec, to access the Internet for months seamlessly and they said that that was not something they would recommend/support and that we had to go directly through their wireless router to get Internet support. I asked if they changed something in the last week that would prevent access and they would not confirm.
We also found that my son's older desktop with 802.11b wireless USB connection and MS OS can't even get out using the Actiontec router directly. Verizon site talks to 802.11b not necessarily being supported, but we had no issues when we were routing everything through the Airport. I just don't want to invest in all kinds of new network devices when we were fine until something happened over a weekend.
I am playing around with buying the latest Airport extreme (ours is a 802.11g model) to see if that works, but Verizon refuses to acknowledge that it's a viable solution and apologized to us that we have to switch between their network router and our Airport router to do routine printing, play music, etc., but they were not open to helping us prevent running multiple networks, either.
Obviously, this is unacceptable customer service, but Verizon techs that I spoke to do not feel that they have any obligation to support us with re-establishment of connectivity that we got with our original service. It sounds from this thread that other folks were getting disconnected or can't establish connectivity over the summer. Am wondering what Verizon is doing that is causing this and who else is getting impacted. Also wondering if upgrading to the latest Airport will help.

  • Using a new Airport Extreme with FIOS

I am contemplating the purchase of an Airport Extreme Router to use with Verizon FIOS. I want to take advantage of the new Airport Extreme 802.11ac for use with planned future Apple Product purchases such as a MacBook Air along with the inevitable upgrades to other products such as Apple TV of which I already have the 3rd Generation and will definitely purchase the next if it is higher speed compatible.  I just upgraded my internet service to 50/25Mbps and the current router is a speed bottle neck. While my speeds are almost 60 Mbps download and over 30Mbps upload with a LAN connection to the router/modem, my download speed only increased to just over 21 Mbps from the former 15Mbps using WiFi. I have read articles on using the AirPort “bridge” setting etc but my question is will I be able to connect AirPort Exteme 802.11ac to my Verizon modem/router and take full advantage of the faster internet speeds when using 802.11ac compatible equipment. I do not wish to change from COAX to Ethernet at the Optical Network terminal and use AirPort's modem as it would be too much hassle dealing with Verizon.

You would connect an Ethernet cable from one of the LAN <-> ports on the FIOS modem to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Extreme.
AirPort Utility will pretty much walk you through the installation with guided steps.
In general, you will configure the AirPort Extreme to "create a wireless network", name the network, assign a password, etc.  The wireless security will be set at WPA2 Personal, which is the most secure setting for home use.
As a final step, the AirPort would be configured to operate in Bridge Mode, since you already have another router "upstream" on the network.
You can connect wired devices to either the FIOS modem/router or the AirPort Extreme. If you turn off the wireless function on the FIOS modem/router, all of your wireless devices will connect to the network generated by the AirPort Exteme. The signal will be passed on to the FIOS modem/router through the wired Ethernet connection.

    MyComputerGuyJo:
I just wanted to add what Apple Support walked me through. Worked perfectly. Similar to some of the posts here. This assumes you have finished the setup of the Airport using DHCP to obtain the IP automatically from Comcast and it says the IP is invalid.
    Power off\on Sequence
1, Power off Comcast Modem. Remove Battery back up, if it has one. Disconnect the coax cable.
    2. Power off Airport Extreme
    3. Let both sit for 3 minutes.
    4. Reconnect coax cable to Comcast modem and replace battery and power up.
    5. Wait a minute or two to make sure the Comcast modem is completely up and then Power on the Airport Extreme.

Freyfisher: I had the same problem whenn I switched to the Airport Extreme yesterday.  Here is what I did:
1:  uplugged modem for 30 sec. and detached all ethernet cables.  Plugged back in and reattached airport extreme cable after all lights were solid on the modem. Then, I went into Airport Utility and selected, "Base Station"> "restore default settings".  Then" Base Station"> Restart.  Then go through setup assistant again.  If no luck, try setting IPv4 to 10.0.1.2, subnet to 255.255.255.0, router to 10.0.1.1. IPv6 set to OFF if having trouble.  DNS adresses: 75.75.75.75, 75.75.76.76, search domain hsd1.ST.comcast.net where "ST" is your two-letter State abbrev.  Hope this helps someone....

  • How do I use the product formula in Numbers?  I want to calculate the product of three numbers?  In Excel it is simply calculated as '=b4*b5*b6.'  How do I do this in Numbers?  I cannot figure it out, and I can't type in the Excel type formula.

Can someone tell mr the steps to write a formula to calculate a product of the cells?  I cannot figure it out.

You double click the cell the product is to be placed in.
Then click the "=" from the little bar that appears above the numeric keyboard.
Then click cell B4.  That should place its reference in the bar to the right of the equal sign.
Then click the "x" from the function guide next to the numeric keypad.
    Then click cell B5.
    Then click the "x".
    Then click cell B6.
Finally click the green check mark on the right.  Done.

  • My Airport Extreme and Time Capsule both cannot do not mount my Seagate USB external hard.

My Airport Extreme and Time Capsule both cannot do not mount my Seagate USB external hard.
    I am running OS 10.7.5
Both the TC and AE are updated to 7.6.1
The Seagate drive in formatted: Journaled HFS+
I tried everything on Apple's Article: HT1331 and the basic reboots and restarts.
    "Next"

It sounds like you may be confusing "mount" with "recognize".
Connect the drive to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Edit
    Click the Disks tab
Does the AirPort Extreme "recognize" your hard drive?  If yes, it will be displayed in the window.
See example below of a WD 500 GB drive connected to the AirPort Extreme.
If your drive is formatted HFS+ and it does not appear here, then you will almost certainly need to use a powered USB hub with the hard drive.....even if the hard drive has its own power supply.  The USB port on the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule is under powered.
Post back when the drive is "recognized" and we will next "mount" the drive.....although you likely already know how to do this.

  • How can I include a success message in a drag and drop interaction - I don't see this option in the Actions on success options, and cannot figure it out?

How can I include a success message in a drag and drop interaction - I don't see this option in the Actions on success options, and cannot figure it out?

I suspected you used the eye icon on the timeline to hide the message, but that one has no impact whatsoever on the published version. It is only meant to be used for editing reasons on the stage, to hide objects temporarily on a crowded stage. It is confusing, certainly in CP8 where for both instances the same eye icon is used. In previous versions the Properties panel had a checkbox for 'Show in Output', which was IMO much clearer than this eye icon. But of course, that is only my personal opinion.

  • I have AirPort Extreme and cannot connect to the internet with a land line but the WiFi works

I have an AirPort Extreme and have been using for several months successfully, but as of two weeks ago, the line that I have hooked up to my desktop no longer provides internet service, but the WiFi works fine for the I-Pad and I-Pod.
I have checked with my service provider and my modem works successfully hooked up the the AirPort extreme or directly to the PC.  When I am hooked in from the modem directly to my PC, I have internet for my desktop, but of course no WiFi.
If I connect the Modem to the Router and the router to my desktop, I have WiFi, but no internet service to my desktop.
I have replaced the network cable but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

It appears that there may be something amiss with the Ethernet switch that is built-in the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) or its configuration settings may be incorrect. I assume that you also tried using the other LAN ports on the AEBSn and the outcome was the same ... no Internet access via a wired connection.
One thing to try is to change the Ethernet adapter settings on the PC. It is possible that its current settings may be appropriate when connected directly to the Internet modem, but may be off for connecting to the AEBSn. If your PC's Ethernet adapter has options to control Speed, Duplex, & MTU, I would change these to the following respectively: 1000 Mbps, Full duplex, & 1500

  • Airport Extreme and external HDD - cannot be found under Windows (XP/Vista)

    Dear All,
I am about to loose it. I have an Airport Extreme (7.4.2), most recent version (802.11n)connected to my cable modem. Attached is a 2TB HFS+ Formated HDD. I have a number of machines. My primary machine is a Dell XPS with Vista and MacDrive installed.
Now: On my AirPort utilities through the Dell the different HDD's connected via USB (I have tried half a dozen) are all visible. They are shared and I have tried all options, e.g. "with Disk Password" etc, tried to give and deny access to guests etc.
I have tried various things incl. switching off the firewall has not been a success either. I am basically ready to buy a Mac now, but I am worried that the problem will persist for all my Windows based PC's.
Who can help with a step to step guide? tried the TCP/IP settings on the XP machine as well (entering the IP address of both Airport Extreme and Express).

    Hi!
I've got the same problem as of Friday when I upgraded my Notebook from XP to Windows 7.
It does not recognize the HDD anymore, neither on the Windows7 Notebook nor on 2 different XP- PC's.
I disabled the password functionality and removed the HDD several times, no change.
When I look to the data volumes overview in the system settings, all internal HDD's and the CD partition of the Toshiba drive are shown. The HDD partition of the drive is shown as "non allocated".
Is there any workaround to get access to the data????
    Best regards,
    Helmut
