Airport Extreme and Linksys Adapter

Hello, I'm having some issues since switching to the Airport Extreme.
After a lot of work, I finally was able to get an iMac and two MacBooks connected to the Airport. However, I am unable to connect a Windows XP using a Linksys Adapter (WMP11, which is Wireless B). I have installed new drivers for the card, changed the PCI port of the adapter and more.
I've disabled the WEP and attempted and no success, I've enabled WEP and no success. The problem I'm having is I'm getting a blue screen error whenever I attempt to connect to the airport. Prior to getting the extreme, I had no issues at all connecting, but now I can't connect at all.
I'm able to see the Airport, so when I double click it to connect, I get this error:
======
DRIVERIRQL_NOT_LESS_OREQUAL
0x000000001 (0x00000101, 0x000000002, 0x00000000, 0xF8C265B5)
LSIPNDS.sys - Address F8C265B5 base at F8C1E000, Datestamp 3ef91459
=====
This error does not occur any other time. If I disable my wireless card, I have no issues. If my wireless card is enabled, but I don't need it for Internet surfing, no error.
I was able to connect to the Internet when I moved my computer and connected it through one of the ethernet ports on the back of the Extreme to my computer. I checked to see if there were updates, and there wasn't. Everything (as far as I know) is fully updated.
What has connected:
* iMac
* MacBook
* MacBook Pro
* Nintendo Wii
What hasn't connected:
* Windows XP

Hey,
Did you ever have they error message come up before you switched to the new Airport Extreme base station? Becasue if that the case you will probably find that it is the card itself causing the problem.
Also have you enabled the airport extreme to receive signals from b,g and n wireless cards? Yuo might find that the card isn't compatible with the new airport express.
You might like to spend a bit of money to get a g or n wireless card, because with the card you have you won't give the speed out of the network like what you would get out of the other computers.
You might have a faulty memory stick in your computer, the easiest way to check is to shut your ocmputer down and pull out a memory stick, start your computer up and see if you have the error?, do this for every memory stick.
It does sound like a faulty third party device,
Hope the helps,
By the way what type of computer is it?

  • Airport Extreme and Linksys WRT54G v8 set up in WDS mode not working

Hi, I am trying to set up my Linksys WRT54g v8 router with DD-WRT v8.0.0.6 firmware as a WDS remote to my Airport Extreme Base Station set up as the WDS main, with WPA2 personal encryption, and it appears that they are talking to one another, but when I plug in a mac with ethernet to the Linksys, I can hit the linksys router to program it but it won't go out to the internet and gets a self-assigned IP.

    Welcome to the discussions!
Duane posted a list of known WDS compatible devices about 6 weeks ago and the Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS were shown as compatible, but not v5. Your post indicates that you have v8, so this may not be possible.

  • Can a single wireless network exsist using an airport extreme and linksys?

What i want to know is can i bridge the Airport Extreme base station with a Linksys (WRT54G) wireless router? I live in an apartment and can't run any cables, so can i use my airport as my primary wireless router and connect to it with the Linksys router? Want to use the linksys as a gamming hub near the tv for console lan partys. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    G4 17" imac 1ghz   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Thanks for the updated information.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort Extreme icon, then click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Check to make sure that the setting for Wireless Security reads either WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal
Enter a Wireless Password and Verify Password
Click Update to save any changes and wait a full minute for the AirPort Etreme to restart

  • Configuration for Airport Extreme and Linksys SD2008 Switch

Does anyone have any experience using the Airport Extreme with a switch? Does DHCP need to be turned off or are there any other tricks to configure? I will be using this for my office PC's (Vista, and XP2).
    Thanks.

Connecting a switch should have nothing to do with the decision to use DHCP or not. An Ethernet switch is smarter than a hub but it does not do IP address assignment like a router.

  • HT4260 I have an AirPort Extreme and a linksys router. What is the best way to get 6-8 wired connections with ac speeds?

I have an AirPort Extreme and a linksys router. What is the best way to get 6-8 wired connections with ac speeds?
    Appreciate your assistance.

The answer depends on whether the AirPort Extreme is your main router....or...the Linksys device is your main router.
In either case, the two devices must connect together using a wired Ethernet connection using CAT5e or CAT6 cabling.
Any version of the AirPort Extreme produced within the last 5 years will have Gigabit Ethernet ports. In order to get the same speeds from the Linksys router, it will also need to be Gigabit Ethernet capable.
If you need additional Ethernet ports, you will need to add a Gigabit Ethernet switch to either the AirPort Extreme or Linksys router.
It is assumed that your other devices connecting to the AirPort Extreme and Linksys router will also have Gigabit Ethernet capability.
Not sure why you mention "ac" speeds in your post. This relates to wireless connections, not wired.

  • Adding 3 Airport Extremes to Linksys WGT4400N in Bridge Mode  Not working

I have a network that starts in a homerun closet and is expanded across 5 acres to differnet locations via CAT5e.
Homerun Closet has Linksys WGT4400N with Cat5e running to three different locations on property. The cables are within length limitations.
1st Airport Extreme N Running in Bridge Mode Connected and Working in Main House
2nd Airport Extreme N Running in Bridge Mode Connected and Working in Guest House
3rd Airport Extreme Replaced with new one Connected and Not Working in Office. This Airport Extreme N is configured just like the others but it cannot see the network. Cables Verified with Testers and Mac Pro at office location, works when ethernet cable is directly connected to system.
Not sure what is going on. IS there s limit to the number of Airport Extreme N's used as bridges?
I have 2 of ther working and the last is not. First Airport Extreme N for office was bad replaced.
    Thank You

The Netgear wireless server has control over what what devices are allowed to connect.
Unless you tell the Netgear what devices you want to allow to connect, it will allow any wireless device to connect as long as it knows the wireless network password.
IF.... .you were using two AirPort Extremes, and not a Netgear, the two Extremes would communicate to each other....so you would only have to enter Timed Access settings on one router and other AirPort would automatically pick those settings up.
But, even this was not the case until the last year or so when Apple updated firmware.  A few years ago, you might have had 2 Apple AirPort Extremes on the network, but you still had to manually set up Timed Access on both devices separately.
Bottom line, you need to setup the equivalent of Timed Access on the Netgear router.

  • Airport Extreme and Wireless Printing

Okay so i know that you can make wireless printing by simply connecting your printer to the airport extreme. However I have a wireless printer and i read somewhere that the extreme does not allow the wireless printer to be discovered when used with the extreme. I want to know if this is true. I currently use a linksys router and whenever i print something, the first time takes forever for it to detect the printer. I am hoping that a newer router will help but i want to know if the extreme does support wireless printers.

Same issue here. I recently upgraded to an Airport Extreme and can no longer print wirelessly. Before this router I used a different brand of wireless router and had no issues. When I go to the printer itself, an HP OfficeJet 7410, and look for networks on the little display it can see mine and the neighbors. However, when I tell it to join the network it gives me an error message along the lines of "Cannot join this network." New network password has been entered.

  • I have AirPort Extreme and cannot connect to the internet with a land line but the WiFi works

I have an AirPort Extreme and have been using for several months successfully, but as of two weeks ago, the line that I have hooked up to my desktop no longer provides internet service, but the WiFi works fine for the I-Pad and I-Pod.
I have checked with my service provider and my modem works successfully hooked up the the AirPort extreme or directly to the PC.  When I am hooked in from the modem directly to my PC, I have internet for my desktop, but of course no WiFi.
If I connect the Modem to the Router and the router to my desktop, I have WiFi, but no internet service to my desktop.
I have replaced the network cable but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

It appears that there may be something amiss with the Ethernet switch that is built-in the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) or its configuration settings may be incorrect. I assume that you also tried using the other LAN ports on the AEBSn and the outcome was the same ... no Internet access via a wired connection.
One thing to try is to change the Ethernet adapter settings on the PC. It is possible that its current settings may be appropriate when connected directly to the Internet modem, but may be off for connecting to the AEBSn. If your PC's Ethernet adapter has options to control Speed, Duplex, & MTU, I would change these to the following respectively: 1000 Mbps, Full duplex, & 1500

  • Airport Extreme and Airport Express conflict and failure

I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with Apple and still could not get my Airport Extreme and Airport Express to function. My Apple TV failed as well:
    * Connected AEX through Airport Utility to internet. Airport Utility replaced my old configuration on my LinkSystem router. Green light.
    * Checked Apple TV. No connection available. Unplugged cable modem, waited 1 minute and tried again. Apple TV connected. No problem.
    * Flashing amber light on Airport Express for Airtunes. Does not show up in wireless device list. I call Apple.
    * Reset Express. Still no signal. Connect via Ethernet cable. Reconfigure. Green Light. Music works.
    * Check internet connection, in order. Apple TV fails. No connection to server.
    * Apple TV reset. No connection. No wireless network found.
    * Reset Airport Express. Reconfigure channel specifications. No connection with ATV or Airport Express.
    * Disconnect Airport Express. Reconfigure. With ATV disconnected I get Airport Express back. Green light but this time no music. Remote speakers appear on itunes, but no music is transmitted.
    * Did a total wireless reset on Extreme, and now both Express and ATV are not working.
Frustrated and dissapointed I disconnected everything put back my 5 year old Linksys router and within 15 seconds both ATV and Airport Express worked flawlessly.
How can this happen? What is wrong with this device? It is my second one in a week. The first one made no wireless connection to my Mac at all.
After sulking for hours I tried again, this time leaving the Express out of the equation and reconfiguring the ATV to take over airtunes. After a reset it did fine. Now I have a pure n signal running at 5hz. ATV works again. So does internet.
Any suggestions? Is there something I did not try?
I tried the Firewall trick, the accept all incoming connections trick, the disabling of the iv6 trick, the join a wireless connection trick, and everything else Apple Care could think of.

Maybe I was not clear enough on my post and configurations,
I had a Linksys before I purchased the airport extreme. My airport express joined the Linksys network for the purpose of airtunes. This worked flawlessly from day one.
Airport Extreme asked in the utility to take over an existing network or replace a router. If you chose this option it adopts all passwords, wpa/2 configurations for security and such.
I chose this option thinking that since it is an apple product it would take over everything and work. My airport express had origianlly been set to join my old Linksys network. Since the airport extreme took over this configuration it should work.
Apple stated many times that there seemed to be a conflict and kept asking me about the placement of my airport extreme.
My Linksys was never part of a bridge or a network within a network. It was removed before the Extreme was ever turned on.
After all the problems and hours of trying with Apple, i find it funny that all I had to do to restore eveything was plug my old Linksys back in and conect all the cables, and bam....it worked.
So what is wrong with the airport extreme, or is there something wrong with itunes 8 and its interface with the express? For whatever reason the extreme cannot make the express and my ATV work at the same time.

  • Using Airport Extreme with Linksys Router/Modem

I was just told that my Mac mini is excruiatingly slow on the internet because I am using a Linksys router with Xfinity and that Airport Extreme will be much faster.  And that I should plug Airport Extreme into the modem.  When I checked, I don't have a separate modem.  My Linksys is a combined router/modem.    What should I do?  Do I plug the Airport Extreme into the Linksys box, or do I get a completely different modem that is only a modem?  And, if I plug Airport Extreme into the Linksys box, how do I configure the network for Airport Extreme, and what else do I need to do?   All help greatlly appreciated...I can barely get onto the Apple website!

When I signed up with Xfinity one of the stipulations was that they would not install a router/modem but only a modem. I had heard of problems with their router/modem and I didn't want to go down that path.
I don't but you mighht be able to get them to change out your router/modem for a modem. I would start there by asking them.

  • Airport extreme and express not acting as i would expect

i have a virgin media super hub which won't transmit my wireless all around my house so i have set this to modem only mode and have connected it to a 4th gen extreme via a cable and connected 1 desktop pc to the extreme also via a cable.  All works perfectly and i get the full 60mb broadband that i pay for and all wireless devices also connected to the extreme achieve this speed. Unfo although better it still isn't enough to transmit through the whole house.
To rectify this i have bought a new express and connected it all up which as expected was a doddle, the problem is that when i connect to the express i get a speed of between 2 and 12mb but never any more. When i spoke to the guy in store i was told that i would get the same speed from the express as i got at the extreme so is this not the case or have i got a setting wrong?

    1. EOP (Ethernet over Power) Sometimes called Homeplug. When you don't know stuff.. google it.

Get trained by little kids on youtube..
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i72DM0dbGpc
They are readily available from any of the big computer stores.. in every brand under the sun. Including ones you have heard of and some probably not.. internally they are all about the same.
    2. The old roaming instructions are the last apple produced.

Here is my take on it.. with lots of screenshots.

Here is a joint effort from users here.
Setting Up Roaming - New AirPort Extremes and Utility
Main things to notice.. This is simple. Follow the instruction in my thread above.. and it works.. but I find the airport utility might need a bit of a kick now and then to get the right setup.
    3. Make it easy on yourself. You are trying to do too many things at once.
    Reset the express.
Plug it into the Extreme by a patch ethernet cable.
    Do the setup.. as per..
Problems with Airport Extreme Ethernet roaming setup
Once you complete the setup.. take the express upstairs and plug it into the EOP adapter.
If it fails.. plug a computer by ethernet into the EOP adapter and see if you are connected.. you might be blaming the wrong thing.

  • How do you connect Airport Extreme and share HP Photosmart 3210 Printer?

    Hello,
I have a Mac and PC Network composed of:
iMac 24'' Leopard 10.5.2 (main computer)
2 PC Fujitsu Pentium 4 on Windows XP
2 PC HP Pentium 4 on Windows XP
my network/connections are done via Airport Extreme and 2 hubs (other devices connected to the network like Wii, XBox etc.)
I am trying to share my HP Photosmart 3210 using the USB connector on Airport Extreme but I am experiencing strange problems while printing from the iMac. I can print an e-mail or a "light" document however if I want to print a Mac powerpoint (Mac office) largest document, the problem starts after the second or 3rd page, the printer goes on pause at the middle of the page and the interface indicates "problem communicating with the printer" or something like that.....unique possibility is to turn the printer off and start again but the problem persists. However, it seems that the printer works ok from the PC's.
I have tried to install the latest versin of the HP driver on my iMac but while configuring, the printer doesn't appear....I have checked on the printer settings and the IP address is 0.0.0.0.
I am now thinking about connecting the Printer via one of the Ethernet port on Airport Extreme.
    Questions:
    1. Any help on the above ? Any advice ?
    2. Is it normal to have no IP address on the printer when connected via USB on Airport Extreme ?
    3. Why HP config doesn't recognize the printer on the network ?
    4. Why does it work from the PCs and not from the iMac and why does it print light documents and not big ones ? Is this a memory7buffer problem on the printer ? What can I do if this is the case ?
    5. On the Airport Extreme Utility, do I need to share the printer via "Bonjour"?
    6. I am willing to plug an extrenal HD on the Airport Express USB port. Is it possible to put first a multi USB port on the Airport Extreme USB or is it going to cause problems ?
Thanks a lot for your help.

NCBob, Welcome to the discussion area!
If I understand correctly you are replacing the Linksys. It should be a simple replacement. Connect the cable modem to the WAN port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). Connect your Ethernet devices (including the switch) to the AEBS LAN ports.

  • AirPort Extreme and Time Warner RoadRunner Service Issue

I have Time Warner's RoadRunner Turbo Internet service, which promises a minimum bitrate of 15 Mbps for downloads and 1 Mbps for uploads. Recently, my measured throughput has crashed on uploads, to well below 100 Kbps (0.01 Mbps) while going through my AirPort Extreme over 100/1000Base-T cable (system 7.4.2). When I directly connect my Mac to the cable modem, I get a consistent 28 Mbps down and 1.7 Mbps up and a ping time of 20 ms. I've tried cycling power, soft resetting, and even hard resetting to factory settings, but nothing seems to fix this throughput issue. I'm going to try a cheap 3rd party router (D-Link or Linksys) to see if I can get my throughput back up, but is there something I'm missing on my setup? I have opened SSH, IMAP and Apple Remote Desktop through the AirPort Extreme, and have enabled Bonjour on it. I can't figure out why this change has happened so suddenly.

power down the network and the modem. connect modem to the extreme wan port. connect pc to ethernet lan port. power modem up first then the router. use Airport Utility to configure your network.

  • I'm having a hard time setting up my external hard from with my AirPort Extreme and Time Machine Backups.

I have been using a Mac Mini with an external hard and Time Machine.  I bought an Airport Extreme and have had problem setting up the hard drive using the USB port on the Airport Extreme.  I also just recently bought a Mac Book Air and hope to have both computers back up to the external hard drive using Time Machine and Airport Extreme.  I have been using the optical drive from the Mac mini to load programs into the Mac Book Air.  I think I'm just getting confused in Finder.  I am just not seeing the hard drive.  I ended up plugging the hard drive back into the Mac Mini and that is work fine again.  How do I setting the external hard drive up to the AirPort Extreme and use for both computers?  Or at least to start with the Mac mini.

It's critical to understand that Time Machine (TM) stores backups differently between local and network drives. That would mean the TM backup on your locally attached USB hard drive will not be directly useable when it is connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). There is a way to copy a local version to a network version, but it is not fool-proof. When you do connect this drive and point TM to it, TM will start a brand new backup, leaving your existing backup as is.
If your current backup is critical to you, you may want to consider getting a second USB drive to attach to the Extreme and use your existing one as a backup ... or use TM's multi-backup process to backup to more than one destination drive alternatively.
So, at this point, you may want to make a decision on how you want to go forward to help provide a solution for you.
To directly answer your question, when you go to select a destination for a Time Machine backup, the drive(s) that show up under "Backup Disks" are those that TM already recognizes and has backed up to. Those listed under "Available Disks" are drives (either local or on the network) that TM can back up to.

  • Airport Extreme and external HDD - cannot be found under Windows (XP/Vista)

    Dear All,
I am about to loose it. I have an Airport Extreme (7.4.2), most recent version (802.11n)connected to my cable modem. Attached is a 2TB HFS+ Formated HDD. I have a number of machines. My primary machine is a Dell XPS with Vista and MacDrive installed.
Now: On my AirPort utilities through the Dell the different HDD's connected via USB (I have tried half a dozen) are all visible. They are shared and I have tried all options, e.g. "with Disk Password" etc, tried to give and deny access to guests etc.
I have tried various things incl. switching off the firewall has not been a success either. I am basically ready to buy a Mac now, but I am worried that the problem will persist for all my Windows based PC's.
Who can help with a step to step guide? tried the TCP/IP settings on the XP machine as well (entering the IP address of both Airport Extreme and Express).

    Hi!
I've got the same problem as of Friday when I upgraded my Notebook from XP to Windows 7.
It does not recognize the HDD anymore, neither on the Windows7 Notebook nor on 2 different XP- PC's.
I disabled the password functionality and removed the HDD several times, no change.
When I look to the data volumes overview in the system settings, all internal HDD's and the CD partition of the Toshiba drive are shown. The HDD partition of the drive is shown as "non allocated".
Is there any workaround to get access to the data????
    Best regards,
    Helmut
