AIRPORT EXTREME AND MULTIPLEX PRINTER SCANNER USE

I have a pc running win xp pro. I have a cannon pixma mp780. I would like to setup using all functions on the printer including the scanner. HELP!

Hello PAPPY2. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, the AirPort base station's USB port does not support the "advanced" features (scanning, copying, faxing, etc.) of multi-function printers. For the multi-function printers that are supported, they are only supported for printing.

I have an airport extreme and express, if I use the extreme as a base station connected to my old router can I use the express to extend the signal while also creating a new network that only I can use? Essentially having two wifi connection off the same network? If so how do I set this up?

Extending using a wireless connection always results in a performance compromise.
If the Express is going to extend using a wireless connection, then the Express will need to be located about half way between the AirPort Extreme and the general area where you need more wireless coverage. The more that you have line-of-sight between the Extreme and Express, the better the network will operate.
Remember......the Express can only "extend" the quality and signal speed that it receives, so it needs to be located where it can get a very good signal from the Extreme. Although Apple cleverly uses the term "extend", a more accurate term for the Express would be "repeater".
If the Express will extend by connecting to the Extreme using a permanent, wired Ethernet cable connection......highly recommended for best performance.....then the Express can be located exactly where you need more wireless coverage. There is no signal loss at all through the Ethernet cable, so the Express gets a full speed signal no matter where it might be located.
Post back to let us know which way to you want to go.

  • Macbook airport extreem and brother printer/scanner DCP-330C

I have macbook airport extreem and brother printer/scanner DCP-330C and everything works fine.
    I can print wireless.
The only thing that irritates me is, when I start my macbook I first see a screen with MFL-ProSuite, I quit then a screen with connect with USB, I quit and then I see a small blue screen.
Is there a way to get rid of these things, so I can start directly with the things I want to do.
    Thanks for the reply.
    Frank

That is something that has to do with the brother software. Doesn't have anything to do with the airport base station.
I would try and Contact brother to see about disabling it.
What I think , is probably because the printer is on the airport not the computer so brothers software is getting confused.
See about deleting just the software and not the drivers. That is if you dont need the software.

  • Airport Extreme and Wireless Printing

Okay so i know that you can make wireless printing by simply connecting your printer to the airport extreme. However I have a wireless printer and i read somewhere that the extreme does not allow the wireless printer to be discovered when used with the extreme. I want to know if this is true. I currently use a linksys router and whenever i print something, the first time takes forever for it to detect the printer. I am hoping that a newer router will help but i want to know if the extreme does support wireless printers.

Same issue here. I recently upgraded to an Airport Extreme and can no longer print wirelessly. Before this router I used a different brand of wireless router and had no issues. When I go to the printer itself, an HP OfficeJet 7410, and look for networks on the little display it can see mine and the neighbors. However, when I tell it to join the network it gives me an error message along the lines of "Cannot join this network." New network password has been entered.

  • Airport extreme and HP printer over ethernet problem

I'm new here, so forgive me if this topic has been done to death. I'm running airport extreme and have an HP photosmart 2600 connected to it via ethernet. My wife has no trouble printing with her Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard), but my daughter's older iMac only prints very intermittantly and mostly not at all.I've tried all the sharing options and reinstalling/updating the HP software, but no luck. The printer is at the other end of the house from the Airport, so connecting via usb is not an option. Any assistance much appreciated, thanks.

Using Ethernet should give the best results, plus it allows the use of more than just the print function, which USB would not. Proof of that should be the fact that this older HP model (it works with OS 9!!!) works well with your recent Mac's Snow Leopard OS.
If the iMac has OS X 10.5.8, the correct printer driver should have already been installed and no further update would have been needed. All that should have been needed was to open the Print & Fax panel of System Preferences and add the HP printer as the iMac's default printer.
When the iMac was first unable to print using the HP, did you consider any chance that the iMac was too far from the Extreme, or that there might have been some interference involved? Did you power cycle starting with the modem? When power cycling is necessary, printers seem to throw off unexplainable errors (such as out of paper or ink, paper jam - when none of these is true).

  • Airport Extreme and multifunction printer.

The printer works wirelessly (connected via USB to the airport extreme), is there a setting to get the scanner function working wirelessly? If not, the multifunction machine (Canon pixma MX850) is networkable, will all functions work if I connect the printer using an ethernet cable to the AE, and connect wirelessly with my computer?

is there a setting to get the scanner function working wirelessly?
    Not through USB.
will all functions work if I connect the printer using an ethernet cable to the AE, and connect wirelessly with my computer?
Yes. The computers need to have the drivers for it installed.

  • Airport Extreme and Canon 5600F scanner

If I plug the Canon 5600F directly into the Macbook Pro it scans perfectly, but the Airport doesn't recognize the scanner when it is plugged in via a USB 2.0 hub. I set the scanner to share over the network. The scanner doesn't have an Ethernet port.
    What am I doing wrong?

Understand the hassle. But, you can't really put this one on Apple as they have no choice but to use the device drivers that other manufacturers supply to them.
At this point, as far as I am aware, there's not a single manufacturer that has written drivers to allow full functionality for all-in-one devices when connected to the USB port on the AirPorts.
Still, you might want to voice your opinion to Apple on this. There's no assurance that that they even read these boards and if enough users ask for a certain feature, perhaps they will incorporate it in the future.

  • Airport Extreme and USB Printer Problem

I have an Epson printer connected to the USB port of my Airport Extreme.  This has worked just fine for years.  But from today neither my iMac nor my MacBook Air can "see" the printer any more.  I have rebooted everything a couple of times, but still no joy.
I have connected the printer directly to a USB port on my iMac, and all is well, so I guess the problem is not with the printer.
The only thing significant done to my system in recent times is the latest security update, which I installed yesterday.
Can anybody give me a clue as to why this problem has suddenly raised its head after all these years?

  • Airport Extreme and Time Machine backups using a USB drive

    Hi there,
I checked through the threads/FAQ's for an answer to this but couldn't find anything...
I have an AE set up with a USB drive attached as my Time Machine backup drive. When I start my MBP up and initiate a forced backup, Time Machine will go and find my drive (via the AE), mount it and carry out the backup without a problem. However, if I start my MBP up and wait for the scheduled hourly backup, TM doesn't see the drive (or perform the backup) unless I go and manually mount the drive first.
I realise I can put the drive in my login items to auto mount on boot but I wondered if there was a way to get the scheduled backups to work without doing this (as with the forced backups).
    Thanks

    Pondini,
Actually, I wasn't thinking about theft. I was just thinking that for security in a possible data-loss "event," it was better to have the backup drive physically separated from the main computer. But maybe that's not necessary.
That's unlikely. A power surge could take out both your Mac and connected external HD. You do have your Macs on good surge protectors or, better yet, U.P.S. systems, right? If not, see [Using a U.P.S. System with a Mac|http://web.me.com/pondini/AppleTips/UPS.html].
But wherever the external HD is, unless it's on a surge protector or U.P.S., it's still exposed.
Other things causing data loss are even less likely to affect your Time Machine drive (especially if there's no other data on it).
Yes, I could hook something up to my Mac Mini. Good point! And that would really keep it separated, since it would be in an entirely different floor. But then again, Time Machine backups done wirelessly would probably take forever.
The first one, yes. But if you have a good WIFI connection, subsequent ones shouldn't take too long or be too obtrusive, except when you've updated a lot of data (like installing an OSX update).
See #22 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), for setup instructions.
But this just shows that there are a lot of options.
    Yes.
I do wish Apple would solve the problem of Time Machine working via the Airport Extreme. That would be my favorite option.
Not likely. Time Machine's been out since Leopard, about 3 years, and backups via an Extreme have never been reliable or supported. Just why they work well on a Time Capsule, or even a USB drive connected to a TC, but not an Airport, is a mystery, but that's the way it is.
But it's always a good idea to keep secondary backups. See #27 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum), for some suggestions.

  • Using Airport Extreme and have iMac still use DSL cable

Is it possible to set up my new Airport Extreme for wifi in the rest of the house and still have my iMac operate directly off the DSL cable?  If so, how?

Does your DSL modem also have a built-in router? How do you currently get wireless? Or is the modem just connected directly to the computer with an Ethernet cable?
If the latter then disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer and connect it to the WAN (World) port on the AEBS router. Connect another Ethernet cable from one of the three LAN ports on the AEBS to the Ethernet port on the computer.
Your computer will connect via Ethernet while the AEBS will also provide a separate wireless network for your other devices to use.

  • Airport Extreme and USB printer

This past week upgraded my home system to Verizon's FIOS--new router, wiring, etc. Got the Airport up and running without too many glitches. I did have to unplug it a few times in the process. But now I find the Airport no longer sees my Lexmark C510 printer. It's never had a problem seeing it before and I fail to understand why any external changes would affect this connection between the Airport and printer. I note, too, that in the past week I updated the Airport firmware to the latest, and have heard that others have problems with printers subsequent to that. The Airport DOES see the USB hard drive connected. No trouble there. This is purely a printer issue.
I have unplugged the printer, unplugged the Base Station, and shut down everything and brought it up one piece at a time, but no change in the status of the printer.

Try as others have to roll back the firmware to 7.3.2. Worth a shot since it was running ok before the upgrade.

  • Printing with a USB printer using Airport Extreme and Vista

I have a airport extreme and it prints fine with all of my Macs.
I bought a VAIO installed with Vista and the lastest service pack. Here is what I have done
    * Installed Bonjour Printing software on the Windows Machine
    * Installed the print drivers on the Windows Machine
    * Bonjour finds the printer and driver without any problem
    * When I test the printer will print either one page or half of one page and then I get an error message.
    * I enabled the UDP 5353 port in the Firewall
The printer is a Epson Photo R220
I have no problems with the Macintosh works great and I have no problems with the Windows machine connecting to the Airport for internet usage.
If anyone out there has a solution I would very appreciative.
    Thanks

No help from the forum. I used Bonjour for Windows.

  • Extended Network using Airport Extreme and TC

Our home is mostly concrete which is not that conducive to a great WiFi signal throughout.  Currently I have an Airport Extreme connected to the modem on the main floor, and a TC extending the network on the second floor.
Is this the most ideal set up?  Does it make any difference which one is connected to the modem, and which unit is extending the network?
    Thanks for the inputs.

The ideal setup would have the AirPort Extreme and TC connecting together using a wired Ethernet connection.
Next best might be a setup using Ethernet powerline adapters to send the Ethernet signal over the existing AC powerlines in your home. The theory here is good, but in practice, things may not work quite as well as the theory suggests. Some users have good luck with this approach, while others....like me.....don't have much success.
Last choice is always a wireless connection. Lots of signal loss this way between the devices and other electronic devices in the home can interfere with the wireless signal. If you opt for wireless, try to estabish a line-of-sight relationship between the AirPort and TC, or as close as possible.

  • Airport Extreme and Orange LiveBox (France). No access from Internet

    Hi
I have bought an Airport Extreme and configure it to use BonJour and Mobileme to be able to access my connected (USB) hard disk when I am not at my home office. When I connect from other network I can see the device, but I can not access it. Actually even when I am at home I can only connect to the disk when I directly connect to the Airport Express, but not connecting via the LiveBox router. I have set up a DMZ zone directly to my Airport Express ID, but this does not seem to work either.
Anybody knows how to solve this?
Or what are the parameters for Orange in France so I can configure the Airport Extreme and get rid off the LiveBox?
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions!
I would highly recommend that you use an experienced IT professional for your proposed network. He or she will need to make an on-site inspection and take a number of measurements to determine the best way to design the network.
In terms of network design, the "best" and far superior design will have a main router distributing ethernet feeds to a number of other wireless access points.
Just from your preliminary information, it's very doubtful that trying to "extend" using wireless only will provide the reliable service that you need.
Please consult with an IT pro (and try to avoid using someone's friend who "knows computers") before you take any further steps. The money will be well spent.

  • I just bought a mac mini...can i just connect an ethernet cable to the airport extreme and set up the mini through an existing mac

I just took the mini out of the box and hooked it up to the airport extreme through a direct ethernet cable between the two.  Can i find the mini and set it up through an existing mac that is also hard wired to the network?  Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your response.. I don't have a monitor nor a wireless keyboard to use on the mac mini...apple salesguy at bb tells me that I can hook up the mini to the ethernet port of my airport extreme and find the mini using finder on my 27 inch mac.
that my regular mac would see everything on the mini and that i can proceed to set everything on the mini through my regular mac...
I am trying to purchase the server software from the app store and turn the mini into a server..
that is what i am attempting to do.
