Airport Extreme and Windows 7. Please help!

I am trying to hook up a PC, running Windows 7, to our airport via wireless. It will connect to the network but then it says No Internet access. The PC works on a normal router (non-apple) but will not connect to internet via airport. I have searched and searched but I cannot figure this out.
Can someone please help? This is the 3rd PC i have tried to connect and none have worked.

OK, sound like yours is setup very similar to mine, which means there is another device controlling the IP address allocation (DHCP) and possibly the internet access.
Where the Broadband phone line enters the building there should be a modem and or router, depending on the type of line you have. I have an ADSL Router which combines both and it is that, that is controlling everything. So you will probably need to access that too, its IP address will usually be the first IP address.
Now your IP address will be a variation of 3 main private ones that is the same on every internal network. So as the IP addresses are handled by this other device we still don't know if you are using DHCP which is what allocates IP addresses automatically. Again at my work location DHCP is disabled deliberately to help prevent unauthorised access.
Have you access o a working Mac and are you able to see if the IP address is set manually or automatically ?
If it is manually you will need to setup the PC manually too. This is a pain if you are going to have regular requests to connect PC's plus you will need to ensure that you don't use an address you've allocated to someone else or that is reserved for DHCP or anything else.
Now you can do this yourself but this is looking increasingly like you need a local network expert, as it is so much easier when you can actually see the machines.
My address range is 192.168.1.x with my Gateway ending in .1 and my APEx ending in .100 this is the most common one, but there is also 10.0.0.x and another I think start 169 ?? but I've never used that one and you only need to keep this info out of the reach of students and other undesirables within range of the APEx !
Before going any further, when a PC tries to connect what is the IP address it is using, normally DHCP is enabled and it will try to get the address automatically if it is successful it will be in the same range as you are are using, if not it will probably start 169 and then it won't work properly.
You could just try setting the IP address manually on the PC but you will have to get all the info correct.
Here is an example based on mine....
IP - 192.168.1.(1 to 254) but not one that is already in use. Try 99
SUB - 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY - 192.168.1.1 (this is the address of my ADSL Router)
DNS 1 - 192.168.1.1 (same as gateway unless yours if different)
DNS 2 - (leave blank or enter what is on yours)
Now on the APEx there are some option I have not played with that you might want to check out, under Access Control is MAC Address access control enabled, if it is nothing new can connect while that is enabled, but I think you said they are connecting OK. Also there is also something called Guest account, whereby you can grant someone limited access for say 24hrs, again I have not used that but you could try it. There is an option to allow the next request for connection to connect, so might be worth trying.
Hope that helps.

  • Please someone help...Airport Problem w/ Airport Extreme and Windows XP

Hello...I am trying to use a Windows XP (SP2) with airport extreme base station....I have linked up the AEBS into an already existing Linksys router that is plugged into the Windows PC, Once Plugged in and airport Utility is opened, AU does not detect any apple wireless devices...when I choose to "Open Config file" option in Airport The Wi-Fi connection is activated and yet the AEBS still flashes amber. The Mac OS X and my ipod touch detect the Wi-Fi network and it is called Apple Network ca00xx (something like that) and it has NO encryption....so basically I want to ask....How would I ENCRYPT the network, and also is that Windows XP wireless enabled? Does the XP have to be Wi-Fi enabled in order to encrypt the network to the Touch and Mac?
Any assistance would be VERY appreciated and ANY solutions are Welcome!

    u are not a proffessional are u?
Nope, just a Mac User, 6th grade education btw!
what is dongle? is that free to get the windows wi-fi?

  • What cables to use when connecting Airport Extreme and Windows XP?

I have a DSL modem and Airport Extreme. Right now I am getting Internet with the cable plugged into "Ethernet" and is connected to my computer. If I want to connect my Airport Extreme to my computer, where do I plug in everything?
Thank you for your help - I am a complete wireless newbie!

You don't seem to be making much sense, please can you clarify your network and your computer.
You have a DSL modem with an Ethernet port?
Do you have an Airport Extreme Base Station?
What computer do you want to connect by Airport, your iMac listed in your profile (or as this is an Airport for Windows forum) a Windows PC?
Does this Windows PC have a wireless card or not?

  • Problems with airport extreme and windows vista

Hi, I have windows vista and I'm having problems conecting it to air port extreme. The only way I can make airport extreme work is to disconect and reconect the powercord and then my computer reconizes it.
    Any sugestions would be helpful.

I just got off the HP "chat" technical assistance about my HP DV6500z doing this same thing. At least for my model there is an October BIOS update. She had me re-install the Broadcom drivers and run the BIOS update. Now the whole computer runs faster in addition to connecting wirelessly! Not only that, I can use the "closed" network feature through the Airport Utility to hide my network as I did in the past and the PC finds it! I guess through all of the very testy notes on HP's discussion board they finally came through (well, at least on this model). My model has the AMD processor so if yours is Intel it may not be the same. I recommend going to their TA chat line or type in your model on their Software & Driver page to see if there is a recent revision on your models BIOS. The one I downloaded was dated 10-2007.

  • AirPort Extreme and Windows XP

My sister brought home a Dell desktop from work today, running Windows XP. It doesn't seem too old, being a 2.7 Ghz Pentium 4. I set it up and plugged it into a network jack in our house. All the network settings in Windows say that the computer is connected to the network, but upon loading IE or Firefox, neither will load a webpage.  I then tried installing the AirPort Extreme software and restarting the base, but that did not help either.
Currently in our house, we run mainly Mac systems - an older G5 tower, a Powerbook G4, a MacBook Pro and a Dell Mini laptop, all of which have no connection problems. What am I missing on this desktop that is preventing the connection?

Can the Dell see other computers on your local network and just not able to access the Internet? If so, then there is a good chance that while at work it was configured to use a specific proxy server for Internet access. Since you wouldn't have this server at home, is most likely the reason that the Dell is not gaining Internet access.
Are you allowed to change this computer's settings?
If so, to reset Internet Explorer's proxy server settings back to its default value:
At a command prompt, type the following command, and then, press ENTER: Inetcpl.cpl
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Enable (check) the Automatically detect settings check box.
Enable (check) the Bypass proxy server for local addresses check box.
Click OK two times to exit the Control Panel applet.

  • Airport extreme and windows vista/8 computers

Are there any issues with the new airport extreme ac and windows based computers here?

You only need one device with AirPort Utility installed on it to configure the new AirPort Extreme.
As I mentioned above, this could be a Mac running the Lion or Mountain Lion operating system, or an iPhone, iPad, or iPod.
You only need to install AirPort Utility on a device if you want to use that device to 1) set up the AirPort Extreme originally, or 2) make changes to the original configuration at a later time.
AirPort Utility is not needed if you simply want to connect a PC...or any other wireless device.....to the wireless network that the AirPort Extreme is providing.
If someone told you that AirPort Utility was needed on the PC for it to be able to connect to the AirPort Extreme wireless network, they were wrong.
Currently, with relatives visiting, there are 3 PCs here at the house....none of which have AirPort Utility installed on them. But they all connect just fine to the wireless network provided by the new AirPort Extreme here.

  • Airport Express and Flashing Yellow - Please Help!

I just purchased an Airport Express and cannot get anything the status indicator to flash anything other than a yellow. I am working on a Win 7 64 bit platform and my router is Netgear N600 (model WNDR3700). The only changes I made to the router is via its utility to enter the Airport ID MAC address into the Netgears "Wireless Acces List". I deperately need input on what I might be doing wrong or need to do to my router's setup. Below are what I have tried and status info:
    What I have tried:
    1) Entered the AIrport's MAC address into my Netgear Router's "Wireless Access List", as well as the Ether ID (out of desperation).
    2) Installed on my PC the latest version of the Airport Utility  (5.5.3).
    3) Plugged the Airport directly in port 4 of my Netgeat Router.
    4) Changed ethernet cables.
    5) Reset the Airport.
    6) Rebooted the Netgear and my PC.
    7) Plugged the ethernet cable from the modem directly into the Airport.
    Info:
    1) When the Airport is first turned on (ethernet is already plugged in), the status light turns solid greem, then goes to solid yellow for a bit, and then immediately goes to flashing yellow (approx 2 seconds between flashes) and stays that way.
    2) then If I run my Advanced IP Scanner if shows the Airport, an IP of 192.168.1.20, the Airport's ethernet MAC address. The status shows "Ok".
    3) If I unplug the Airport and click rescan on the IP Scanner the device remains present but the status is changed to "Dead".
Despite what I tried I get only get the yellow flashing light? Do I have a bad Airport Express or is this a failure on my part to properly set up the Netgear? Thanks in advance for any help offered.

The AirPort Express flashing yellow means it it not receiving a valid IP address. This is issued by your router.
I recommend disabling your Netgear's "Wireless Access List" until you get it resolved.
One thing that you did not mention is using AirPort Utility. You need to configure the Express using AirPort Utility for Windows. If you don't have that click here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1391
Read about designing AirPort Networks here: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/designing_airport_networks_10.5-windows.pdf
A new Express creates an unprotected wireless network named "Apple Network xxxxx". You need to disconnect from your existing network and connect to that network in order for AirPort Utility to communicate with the Express. Most likely you will have to temporarily disable any and all anti-virus / firewall / security software running on your Windows to do this. If you don't see that network you will not get anywhere.
When you are finished configuring the Express in AirPort Utility, including addressing any unresolved conflicts it may report, click the button to restart it. AirPort Utility will say "the Express is now restarting" but the temporary network that it created for you to configure it will cease to exist, so just close the window. Reconnect to your usual wireless network which will now welcome the Express as a member.
After it restarts the Express should show a happy green light.
When you are finished re-enable all your Windows firewalls and AV software.

  • Airport Extreme and Windows PC users....got a question.

I currently just own PC's, Dell Workstation and Laptop, but plan to buy a MacBook Pro in a few months, so I'll have a mixed network.
How does the Airport Extreme work as a total PC router, is it just as good as Linksys and Netgear etc?
Any concerns I should be aware of?

I run a D-Link DIR-655 802.11/n and 802.1/g combined WPA2 AES Security 2 x Windows XP SP2 and 2 x Windows Vista SP1 1 x Macbook OS X & Windows XP2 all run 802.11/n 2 x iPhone which runs 802.11/g and a Airport Express 'AE' 802.11/n 'configured to join the D-Link Network'. Everything works seamlessly including the powered speakers connected to the AE. USB connected printer to the AE and Vista can be a bit of an issue but a solution has been posted in this forum by another subscriber. Having said that there is no guarantee that my experience will be the same as yours as there are many factors involved. I would just introduce the MacBook to the network which is currently working and if it is figured correctly it should work in either a 802.11/g or /n environment. Get Windows installed on your Macbook and you will get the best of both worlds and any legacy system that you have on your existing Windows Workstations should work on the Macbook when running Windows. One thing I have not tried is the software that allows you to swap from OS x to Windows rather than have to reboot to move from one to the other. Good luck you will love the Macbook 'a recent convert PC convert who started with DOS and then suffered every Windows OS published by Bill'

  • Problem printing with Airport extreme and Windows Vista

I have just purchased a HP Laserjet printer that I have connected to my airport extreme. When I turn on Bonjour, my computer detects the printer, but when I try to configure it, a message apears saying I don't have the authorisation to do so...

  • Airport Extreme and HP Psc printer help needed

Hey there, I just got a new Airport Extreme 802.11n, the internet works fine but I am having problems getting it to work with my HP printer. I have a HP PSC 2410 printer(multifunction).
The airport sees that it is connected and it comes up fine. But when I try and print something it just doesent work and usually will get stuck on "Opening Printer Connection".
Other times it may sound like the printer is going to print and it gets ready to but then stops. Also sometimes it can manage to print a few letters in Word but then I try to print a whole webpage and it wont work. But most the time it just wont work.
    Things I have tried:
1.Call Apple-they said to come here
2.Called HP-they want me to give them $$ to get any support
    3.Reinstalled drivers
    4.Re-added printer
    5.Power-cycled
6.Fiddled around with settings in the airport utility and elsewhere
The worst case I am expecting is that it just isn't compatible which in that case is no biggie because I can just hook it back up directly to my iMac and it works fine, just would be nice to be able to print wirelessly from my Macbook pro.
    Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Hello Drumwiz. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Unfortunately, not all USB printers are compatible with AirPort base stations.
Take a look at one of these iFelix Unofficial AirPort Printer Compatibility links, depending on which AirPort base station you have:
o 802.11g AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) or AirPort Express Base Station (AX)
o 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)
If your printer isn't listed, it doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but simply that it has not been verified. iFelix also provides the following workaround for printers not on the list that would certainly be worth a try.
Also, you may find the following Apple article helpful.

  • Having problems with HP6980 printer and Windows 7, please help

I just replaced my XP computer with a new HP computer running Windows 7.  Each time I turn on my HP 6980 printer, it won't print.  When I go to Devices and Printers, I see that it is offline.  I have to delete the printer and reinstall it to make it work and this solution is only good for the session.  I have to repeat the process each time that I turn on the computer.  Please help.

Try running this next time you get the issue:

  • Airport extreme and window 7

I have a airport extreme with a hard drive attached. I can see the hard drive on my mac but can't on my window 7 laptop. I saw it on the laptop for a while but the other day it disappeared. Any clue how to get it working again?

  • Airport Extreme and external HDD - cannot be found under Windows (XP/Vista)

    Dear All,
I am about to loose it. I have an Airport Extreme (7.4.2), most recent version (802.11n)connected to my cable modem. Attached is a 2TB HFS+ Formated HDD. I have a number of machines. My primary machine is a Dell XPS with Vista and MacDrive installed.
Now: On my AirPort utilities through the Dell the different HDD's connected via USB (I have tried half a dozen) are all visible. They are shared and I have tried all options, e.g. "with Disk Password" etc, tried to give and deny access to guests etc.
I have tried various things incl. switching off the firewall has not been a success either. I am basically ready to buy a Mac now, but I am worried that the problem will persist for all my Windows based PC's.
Who can help with a step to step guide? tried the TCP/IP settings on the XP machine as well (entering the IP address of both Airport Extreme and Express).

    Hi!
I've got the same problem as of Friday when I upgraded my Notebook from XP to Windows 7.
It does not recognize the HDD anymore, neither on the Windows7 Notebook nor on 2 different XP- PC's.
I disabled the password functionality and removed the HDD several times, no change.
When I look to the data volumes overview in the system settings, all internal HDD's and the CD partition of the Toshiba drive are shown. The HDD partition of the drive is shown as "non allocated".
Is there any workaround to get access to the data????
    Best regards,
    Helmut
