AirPort Extreme and xbox 360

How do I open NAT on 2013 AirPort Extreme 7.1 for xbox 360 connection?

Unfortunately, the AirPorts are not listed as Xbox Live-compatible routers ... so there is no guarantee doing this will get Open NAT status for Xbox Live!
Basically what it comes down to is that although you can get an Internet connection for the Xbox with the AirPorts, you may not get the necessary NAT setting (Moderate or Open) for the Xbox Live! on-line game that you want to play. As such, you basically have two options: 1) Create a DMZ (Apple calls this a Default Host) for the XBox or 2) Configure the AirPort for Port mapping to open the required ports to allow Xbox Live! access ... or 3) Use a compatible router.
Option 1 - Create a DMZ
AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Edit > Network Options
Enable default host at: <Enter the IP Address for the XBox>
Option 2 - Configure Port Mapping
The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
UDP 53
UDP 88
UDP 1863
UDP 3074
TCP 53
TCP 80
TCP 1863
TCP 3074
To setup port mapping on an AirPort base station, either connect to the AirPort's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the base station's LAN ports, and then use the AirPort Utility, to make these settings:
1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the Xbox 360.
AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort > Edit > Network tab
Click the "+" (Add) button to enter a DHCP Reservation.
Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
Reserve address by: MAC Address
MAC Address: <Enter the MAC hardware address of the Xbox or the MAC address of the wireless depending on how you connect the XBox to the network.>
IPv4 Address: <enter the desired Private IP address you want to assign to the Xbox>
Click Save.
2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
While still on the Network tab:
Click the "+" (Add) button under the Port Settings dialog box.
Description: <you must enter a description here; it can be anything you want>
Public UDP Port(s): 53, 88, 1863, 3074
Public TCP Port(s): 53, 80, 1863, 3074
Private IP Address: <enter the DHCP Reserved IP address for the Xbox you created earlier>
Private UDP Port(s): 53, 88, 1863, 3074
Private TCP Port(s): 53, 80, 1863, 3074
Click Save
Click Update and allow the AirPort to restart.

  • AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, and Xbox 360

Perhaps someone's already posted a question about this, but I couldn't find a specific post that addressed my questions. I recently bought an Xbox for my stepson and hope to use an AirPort Express to connect it to my home network, which is built around an AirPort Extreme Base Station. Anyone out there done this? Can anyone share how they set theirs up?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi.
I set up the same configuration proposed by Henry.
My Airport Extreme is cabled to the Netgear ADSL Router. Airport Express is configured in WDS mode together with Airport Extreme and both are in bridge mode (DHCP disabled). Then, the Xbox 360 is connected with ethernet cable to the Airport Express. Finally, I set up the Airport express and extreme IP address as static. In this way, I have only one wireless network and the IP address is given by the Netgear Router for all hosts (Xbox 360 too), other than Airport base stations, which are always reachable with their static IP address.
I hope this description will be helpful.

  • How do I connect Airport Extreme to XBox 360 live

I just bought an Airport Extreme to use as my wireless router.  Everything connected beautifully EXCEPT my all in one HP Printer and my XBOX 360.  If I manually enter the settings, I can connect but only for a minute or 2.  Once my son starts using xbox LIVE, the connection gets dropped.  All instructions I can find must be for older utilities.  I eventually plugged in my old G Router into an open LAN port on the back of the Airport Extreme and got my printer working when connecting to the old network ID but still can't get XBOX 360 to connect and stay connected.  Any help is appreciated.

Ok, thanks for the update. Do you have the Xbox connected to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) by Ethernet (wire) or by wireless? If wireless, temporarily connect it by Ethernet to verify that you can get connectivity via this method.
If you were using wireless, which of the following is the wireless adapter that you are using?
    802.11g or
    802.11n?

  • AirPort Express and Xbox 360

I am currently using my laptop to bridge my wireless to my xbox without buying the xbox wireless adapter. I want to get the AirPort Express to do this job rather than my computer doing it. I currently have the following setup. I have my cable modem from my isp which has ethernet running to my AirPort Extreme. The AirPort Extreme has one wired computer and one wireless which is my laptop. My xbox connects to the AirPort Extreme through my wireless Laptop

    Here's how to do it:
    _On the AirPort Extreme:_
Open AirPort Utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons
Wireless Mode should be "Create a wireless network" (It's probably already set this way)
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended"
    Update to save settings
    _On the AirPort Express:_
Open AirPort Utility, Click Manual Setup
    Click the Wireless tab
Wireless Mode should be set to "Extend a wireless network". If you don't see this choice, hold down the "option" key when you click on the selection box
When you select "Extend.." your wireless network created by the TC will appear as a choice to extend. Select it and enter the wireless password.
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow wireless clients"
    Update to save settings.
Whenever you plug the Express in, it will automatically "extend" the main wireless network from the Base Station. The ethernet port is "live" in this setup so you could connect an ethernet device if you wish.
But note...you cannot extend the "guest" network if you have a dual band AirPort Extreme. Only the "main" network can be extended. For more info, refer to the Designing AirPort Networks guide, pages 43-44.

  • Airport Extreme N + Xbox 360 --- Can't find network.

Can't find my network through my Xbox 360, even through the different radio modes with the closed network box left cleared. Can anyone help? Where can I start? Thanks.
This happened after the Xbox Live update on December 4. There's not much I can do on the Xbox unfortunately, so it will help if I can configure the Airport in a way that it might work for the Xbox.

Hey man, I didn't really bother with connecting it directly, but I disabled WEP and it could find the network again. Using the 'Option key' trick you advised (even though I'm not using a Macintosh, but I knew what key is related), I managed to change the radio mode and WEP setting. Changed it to 802.11a and WEP 128-bit instead of WEP (Transitional Security Network). Thanks a lot man. You're really helpful. If I had a friend's list here, I'd add you.

  • Apple Airport Extreme with xbox 360

Even with alot of research and tinkering i have not been able to get a stable xbox live connection. however i am fairly sure it is not the router, if it was it would disconnect regulary, and it doesnt, it works fine one day and is a bit twitchy the next. Still i was wondering... what is the difference between the ipv6 modes: link local, node and tunnel? and is one of them best for xbox live use?

...I will get a better connection using the Xbox wireless adapter and my Airport Extreme Base Station, than I do by connecting the Xbox via Ethernet to an Airport Express that is wirelessly connected to my AEBS?
    Yes
If I get the xbox wireless adapter, do I still need to configure my AEBS as WDS...
    No
...and could I get my old network communication speed back?
    Yes

  • Ps3 and Xbox 360 already asked many times but no solution works

    Hi,
first of all I'd like to share with all of you my real disappoint for having bought this Airport Extreme Base Station. I really hope that someone at Apple will read my post and come to my house because I would have just a few words to tell them.
After 4 years of proficuous cooperation my Netgear WI-Fi router left me and I immediately thought to replace it with an Apple product just to be sure that it would have been easy to install and on top of performances.
I chose the Airport Extreme which is much more expensive than quite all the other same product but I didn't care about it because I would have brang home an excellent product.....or...at least I thought it !
Once in my room the soap opera began. I'm not a genius but I consider myself a medium skilled user and, in any case, even it is not my real job, I configured many bigger LANs than my personal ones and I never had such kidn of problem.
I read many posts where people were asking for information because they couldn't connect their Airport Extreme to their PS3 or Xbox 360 but I never had such kind of problem. It really worked immediately and both consoles worked in few moments.
My REAL problem is that both of them are terribly slow and I can't do anything online. I can't see streming videos, I can't play online and I can't neither play videos that are on a LAN DLNA server !!!!! It takes about 35 seconds to play a video and some times it has to stop for empty buffering reason. This is really unacceptable.
I tried so many configurations and nothing changed and I also took a look at some guides but they had been written with old firmwares so they are quite unuseful for me.
After having asked a friend of mine to give me his router (a Netgear ones) for some days I finally made myself sure that the problem is the Airport Extreme.
It also has a very poor signal because my iPhone has difficulties to keep the connection in areas where my old router worked fully.
If only I could turn back time I'd never buy it again but now, having spent to useless my money, could you please let me know a working configuration for the latest firmware 7.4.2 ? I tried to use the previous firmware but I have the same problems.
There is only a wall separating the Airport Extreme from the PS3 and Xbox and both of them get a 100% of signal but I really don't know what to do.
Thanks for all the help you could provide me.
    Bye.
    Christian

Sorry but I have no way to measure the actual throughput for any of my devices (I have 2 Xboxes which have the same problem and even my iPhone suffer of a bad connection).
In any case I really can't understand why the connection is so bad. I can even get in touch with my ISP to ask them if there is some problem with the connection (maybe a coincidence and the Airport Extreme has nothing to do with it ?????) but the facts remain: even my DLNA server and PS3 connection is slow and I can't clearly see the movies I have in my intenal LAN and also the iPhone show a poor connection to the Airport Extreme and it is because of the Extreme for sure.
I really don't know what to do.

  • Trouble with airport extreme and express

Hey all. I recently bought a new airport extreme and I'm now having problems setting up a network with the airport express. the airport express that we have is connected to a very old G3 iMac because it doesn't have an airport card and is upstairs. I have so far managed to set up the airport extreme so my G4 iBook and my MacBook Pro are both connected via wireless. The trouble seems to be that I can't get the next step set up as i'm not very experienced with networks and I can't get the express to establish a connection with the extreme. i hope somebody could help me sort out the next step. On a side note, this new airport extreme doesn't allow my xbox 360 to connect to it and i wondered if there is any way I can get it to connect again via wireless, either by changing a setting or the security?
Any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks.

applefan08, Welcome to the discussion area!
To continue to use the AirPort Express (AX) to give Internet access to the iMac G3, you will need to configure the 2 devices to use WDS to wirelessly connect. The instructions start on Page 41 in "Designing AirPort Extreme 802.11n Networks" (http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/DesigningAirPortExtreme802.11nNetworks.pdf).

  • Updated to 7.3.1, PC and Xbox 360 can't connect

Hey, anyone else having problems getting PCs and Xbox 360s to connect to the AirPort Extreme after the 7.3.1 update? Wired or wireless, my PC (Vista, with and without SP1) and my Xbox 360 (with the official wireless network adapter) won't connect.

I am in the same boat...
7.2 worked great... 7.3.1 does not even show in the network list. Also, downgrading it does not fix the issue?!?!?

  • UPnP and Xbox 360

I purchased my xbox 360 about 4months ago, and ever since then my xbox LIVE connection keeps cutting out on me during games, movies on netflix, and miscellaneous other things. I keep getting the error that says i need to enable the UPnP on my modem and/or router. I own an airport extreme and I am fully aware it does not support UPnP. Is there any way I can somehow "enable" it, or is there a program that will serve the same purpose? I really just want to use my xboxLIVE not much more..... Thanks

Apple's equivalent to UPnP is NAT-PMP. You can try enabling this option from the AirPort Utility.
o AirPort Utility (v5.x) > Select the AirPort > Manual Setup > Internet > NAT tab > Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol
o AirPort Utility (v6.x) > Select the AirPort > Edit > Network tab > Network Options... > Enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol

  • How do you connect Airport Extreme and share HP Photosmart 3210 Printer?

    Hello,
I have a Mac and PC Network composed of:
iMac 24'' Leopard 10.5.2 (main computer)
2 PC Fujitsu Pentium 4 on Windows XP
2 PC HP Pentium 4 on Windows XP
my network/connections are done via Airport Extreme and 2 hubs (other devices connected to the network like Wii, XBox etc.)
I am trying to share my HP Photosmart 3210 using the USB connector on Airport Extreme but I am experiencing strange problems while printing from the iMac. I can print an e-mail or a "light" document however if I want to print a Mac powerpoint (Mac office) largest document, the problem starts after the second or 3rd page, the printer goes on pause at the middle of the page and the interface indicates "problem communicating with the printer" or something like that.....unique possibility is to turn the printer off and start again but the problem persists. However, it seems that the printer works ok from the PC's.
I have tried to install the latest versin of the HP driver on my iMac but while configuring, the printer doesn't appear....I have checked on the printer settings and the IP address is 0.0.0.0.
I am now thinking about connecting the Printer via one of the Ethernet port on Airport Extreme.
    Questions:
    1. Any help on the above ? Any advice ?
    2. Is it normal to have no IP address on the printer when connected via USB on Airport Extreme ?
    3. Why HP config doesn't recognize the printer on the network ?
    4. Why does it work from the PCs and not from the iMac and why does it print light documents and not big ones ? Is this a memory7buffer problem on the printer ? What can I do if this is the case ?
    5. On the Airport Extreme Utility, do I need to share the printer via "Bonjour"?
    6. I am willing to plug an extrenal HD on the Airport Express USB port. Is it possible to put first a multi USB port on the Airport Extreme USB or is it going to cause problems ?
Thanks a lot for your help.

NCBob, Welcome to the discussion area!
If I understand correctly you are replacing the Linksys. It should be a simple replacement. Connect the cable modem to the WAN port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). Connect your Ethernet devices (including the switch) to the AEBS LAN ports.

  • I'm having a hard time setting up my external hard from with my AirPort Extreme and Time Machine Backups.

I have been using a Mac Mini with an external hard and Time Machine.  I bought an Airport Extreme and have had problem setting up the hard drive using the USB port on the Airport Extreme.  I also just recently bought a Mac Book Air and hope to have both computers back up to the external hard drive using Time Machine and Airport Extreme.  I have been using the optical drive from the Mac mini to load programs into the Mac Book Air.  I think I'm just getting confused in Finder.  I am just not seeing the hard drive.  I ended up plugging the hard drive back into the Mac Mini and that is work fine again.  How do I setting the external hard drive up to the AirPort Extreme and use for both computers?  Or at least to start with the Mac mini.

It's critical to understand that Time Machine (TM) stores backups differently between local and network drives. That would mean the TM backup on your locally attached USB hard drive will not be directly useable when it is connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). There is a way to copy a local version to a network version, but it is not fool-proof. When you do connect this drive and point TM to it, TM will start a brand new backup, leaving your existing backup as is.
If your current backup is critical to you, you may want to consider getting a second USB drive to attach to the Extreme and use your existing one as a backup ... or use TM's multi-backup process to backup to more than one destination drive alternatively.
So, at this point, you may want to make a decision on how you want to go forward to help provide a solution for you.
To directly answer your question, when you go to select a destination for a Time Machine backup, the drive(s) that show up under "Backup Disks" are those that TM already recognizes and has backed up to. Those listed under "Available Disks" are drives (either local or on the network) that TM can back up to.

  • Airport Extreme and external HDD - cannot be found under Windows (XP/Vista)

    Dear All,
I am about to loose it. I have an Airport Extreme (7.4.2), most recent version (802.11n)connected to my cable modem. Attached is a 2TB HFS+ Formated HDD. I have a number of machines. My primary machine is a Dell XPS with Vista and MacDrive installed.
Now: On my AirPort utilities through the Dell the different HDD's connected via USB (I have tried half a dozen) are all visible. They are shared and I have tried all options, e.g. "with Disk Password" etc, tried to give and deny access to guests etc.
I have tried various things incl. switching off the firewall has not been a success either. I am basically ready to buy a Mac now, but I am worried that the problem will persist for all my Windows based PC's.
Who can help with a step to step guide? tried the TCP/IP settings on the XP machine as well (entering the IP address of both Airport Extreme and Express).

    Hi!
I've got the same problem as of Friday when I upgraded my Notebook from XP to Windows 7.
It does not recognize the HDD anymore, neither on the Windows7 Notebook nor on 2 different XP- PC's.
I disabled the password functionality and removed the HDD several times, no change.
When I look to the data volumes overview in the system settings, all internal HDD's and the CD partition of the Toshiba drive are shown. The HDD partition of the drive is shown as "non allocated".
Is there any workaround to get access to the data????
    Best regards,
    Helmut

I just replaced my airport extreme and now the amber light on my airport express is blinking.  When I go to utilities and try to find the airport express it does not show up.
    What should I do?

Anytime you change networking hardware it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of that hardware. Check out the following AirPort User Tip for details. Please post back your results.
