Airport Extreme blinking yellow , auto reset ?

I have two Airport Extremes connected via ethernet.  One is connected to the Internet and the other is to extent the WIFI in the house for better signal coverage.
Every so often the Airport Exterme that is used to extend the WIFI signal, starts to flash yellow and when I reboot it is fine again.  Is there way to "auto reboot" the Airport Extreme.
thanks in advance

When i go thru diagnostic steps by way of those messages, i get "Unknown problem (6rer)"
If you are using the Lion or Mountain Lion operating system on your Mac.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the amber dot, and another window will appear to explain why the amber light is blinking
What is the message?  If everything seems to be normal, the message might indicate that an update is available for the AirPort Extreme.
If you are using the Leopard or Snow Leopard operating system on your Mac.....
Open AirPort Utility using the path above
Click on the AirPort Extreme, then click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)

When i go thru diagnostic steps by way of those messages, i get "Unknown problem (6rer)"  I have powered down the unit and also the cable modem to which it is attached, with no luck.

  • My computer cannot see my new airport express (Blinking Yellow)

OK, Ive been sitting here for an hour and this thing keeps blinking yellow..lol
I reset it twice but it will not appear in the airport setup utility.I am trying to extend my network from my Airport extreme in the basement.
Im sitting 2 feet away from it on my macbook pro
    what gives?
Message was edited by: Thomas Colontonio

I hope you are sitting 2 feet away from the Airport Extreme with the Airport Express plugged in near it along with your MacBook.
If not, you should do this all in the same room to begin with..
Next, it sounds like you need to reset the new Express.
Unplug it, push a clip into the reset button and while holding the reset button in, plug the Express back in and keep holding the clip in for at least 10 seconds.
Now, wait a minute or two and see if the Express shows back up in the Airport Utility window.
If it does, set it up again the way you want.

  • Airport extreme blinking amber light error when connecting to new modem

I have just bought and installed a new modem gateway.  It is an Arris TG852G DOC 3.0 model with a built in WiFi router.
After connecting it and activating it through Comcast, I reset, then reconnected my airport extreme MD0331LL/A Model No. A1408 to the new Arris
modem, I am getting blinking amber lights on the base station.  I have internet connectivity, but I am still getting an amber light.  My wireless devices (ipad and iphones) all see the old network name and id and seem to work just fine.
When I scanned for my airport base station in my airport utility (version 5.6.1)  to try to resolve the error message I get
a message stating that the Airport Utility is not detecting any airport devices.
I cannot reset the default settings as these buttons do not work within the Airport Utility.
I suspect interference between the built in router in the Arris and I understand I need to operate it in bridge mode.  Can you please help me fix this.
The COMCAST people are extremely unhelpful, and stated that this is not their problem but a problem with my router
as they have provifded me  internet connectivity through the modem and the issue is my problem.

Try connecting an Ethernet cable from your computer directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if AirPort Utility can detect the AirPort Extreme that way.
If yes, click on the AirPort Extreme and then click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)
A window will open to explain why the amber light is blinking
If the message indicates that you need to configure the AirPort in Bridge Mode......
Click the Internet icon at the top of the window
Click the Internet Connection tab just below
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the lower right of the window to save the new setting and restart the AirPort Extreme
You can disconnect the Ethernet cable that you were using to configure the AirPort Extreme now
It would be a good idea to power off both the Arris gateway and the AirPort Extreme now
    Wait a minute
Start the Arris first, and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    You should be all set

  • Two nat routers - AP Extreme blinking yellow

I have had an internet based home security system installed.  They (comcast) require their own router between the cable modem and my AP Extreme.  Their router is purely for their use, I get one ethernet port to go to the AP.  But their router also has dhcp and nat functionality enabled.  So . . .
    1) If I put my AP Extreme in Bridge Mode, alll works well.  The "other" router is assigning IP addresses (in the 172. range), the AP shows a green light and all is well.  Except . . . I cannot use the Guest Network functionality, which I want to keep.  It appears that does not work in Bridge Mode.
    2) If I let the AP create a network, everything also seems to work fine.  Now the AP is assigning IP addresses (in the 10. range).  But the AP stays blinking yellow and says it does not like having two routers.
Do I care if the AP stays blinkng yellow with that error message?  Why does it care if everything seems to work?

That is correct! The Guest Networking feature is NOT available when the AirPort is configured as a bridge.

The flashing amber is letting you know that the AirPort has detected that it is in a double NAT condition. Being in this state is not an issue by itself. You can disable the warning by using the AirPort Utility (v5.x); select the yellow circle next to the base station, and then, choose the option to ignore the warning. This should get the status light to a steady green again.

  • Airport Extreme drops wireless and resets itself about 20 times a day

    hi all,
i am having wireless network issues with my Airport Extreme.
I have a secured (WPA) network set up at work using the Apple Airport Extreme. We have about 7 - 10 users on it at one time during business hours. What has been happening is our Airport resets itself and drops everyone off. This happens quite frequently but with no real pattern, sometimes it drops 5 times an hour, sometimes it goes for hours without dropping anyone.
Now this issue is not a new one for us, nor is it isolated to the Airport Extreme. Actually i have had D-Link and linksys WAP's do the exact same thing in my office.
Our offices are relatively small and its open concept (no walls between the users and the airport) however the building we are in has loads of wireless networks fighting for space. I can see over a dozen other wireless networks from my computer at any time.
Im at my wits end with this because it seems like any wireless access point we try ends up failing in the same way. They never totally pooch out, they just always shut themselves down and restart.
Couple more details about the networks
Mostly PC's but a few macs.
The Airport is set to use interferance robustness as well as auto-channel switching.
we have also added a airport express to this network to help boost signal strength.
As i said we have anywhere from 6 - 10 people on this network at one time, none of us doing any significant activity (just browsing and emails). But when im here alone it never drops me. it seems to relate to the # of users.
Anyone have any ideas? Im totally lost and at the point where im going to scrap wireless and just wire everyone to the network!
    THANKS IN ADVANCE,
    MCM

    some more info.
    1. I upgraded my firmware to 7.1.1 from 7.0 and still drops connections.
    2. However upgrading my Airport Utility software allowed me to actually see logs after the thing restarts. This is what im getting when computers lose connections:
Aug 13 13:19:39 5 Rotated TKIP group key.
    Aug 13 13:19:39 5 Deauthenticating with station 00:09:2d:85:ee:3a (reserved 2).

    Aug 13 13:19:47 5 Associated with station 00:19:d2:ad:b5:39
i read some other forum posts (macfixit.com) that pointed to an article about this, but of course you gotta pay for it and i have limited faith in the solution. So anyone know what it means when it Rotates the TKIP group key?
could this be a security issue and not interfeaance ?
    or both?
    thanks,

  • Stop Airport Extreme blinking orange -Restore to Green

I stupidly upgraded my Airport Extreme base station firmware from 7.4.2 to 7.5.2 and computer crashed, etc. Thanks to this great discussion group I downgraded back to 7.4.2 without further problems. Everything works perfectly.
Now A.E. base station orange light comes back on and wants to upgrade firmware back to 7.5.2.
My QUESTION: How do I refuse any future A.E. firmware updates AND restore the blinking orange light back to green? I'm happy with firmware version 7.4.2. Thanks for any help with this matter and Happy New Year.
p.s. Dear Apple, please leave me alone and stop screwing up my simple system with this buggy update. I'll buy a new Imac with OS 10.6..... when I'm ready to!

My QUESTION: How do I refuse any future A.E. firmware updates AND restore the blinking orange light back to green? I'm happy with firmware version 7.4.2.
o Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
o Click the Base Station tab below the Printers and Disks icons
    o Click the Options button
o Remove the check mark next to Check for Firmware Updates
o Click Done, then click Update

  • Airport Extreme Freezes After Soft Reset

    Hi Everyone,
I'm having an issue with the 7.5.2 firmware update for my Airport Extreme. We have several devices which use DHCP reservations and after updating to 7.5.2 I went in to change some of the IPs and other settings (using AirPort Utility). After making the changes I pressed update and the Airport started the reset, but the light just stays amber and I have no connectivity. I end up having to pull the plug and do a hard reset. After a hard reset, when I check the Airport, none of my changes went into effect.
I have tried many times with different settings and it always does the same thing whenever I try to update the changes; it hangs during the soft reset without saving any changes. When I downgrade the firmware to 7.4.2, however, everything works perfectly.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I too have run into the same problem as ‘controls.freq’ although sometimes the light just stays amber (like controls.freq’s documented post) and other times it stays solid green after clicking "Update." No matter, the result is the same -- I have to perform a hard reset (pull the plug) of the Airport Extreme and none of my changes have been made. I not only run into this when trying to add static DHCP addresses (like controls.freq), but also when trying to add MAC addresses to timed access control lists, or (when playing around) trying to change my wireless network name .... honestly, it probably fails for many other changes too.
So I tried what Bob suggested -- but no luck. A lot of effort but no reward. I tried loading 7.4 firmware (tried both 7.4.2 and 7.4.1 which ran more reliably in my environment) and then doing the factory reset, then upgrading to 7.5.2 and setting everything up. But after maybe one successful save of settings, all subsequent saves failed as described earlier. Then I tried a factory reset while running 7.5.2 and ran into the same problem after maybe the first successful save.
The only reliable workaround is to DOWNGRADE to 7.4.x, make the necessary changes, and then upgrade again to 7.5.2. I must say ... if there were some way I could get the system to stop offering new code reliably (that doesn’t even work even when I tell it I don’t want to check for updates), then I’d just stay with 7.4.1 throughout the environment with success.

  • Airport Extreme Blinking Amber But Internet Working Fine Multiple Status Messages

I have Airport Extreme 5.6.1.   It started blinking amber showing Airport did not have a valid Internet Address.   I was concerned about with changing anything if I could still connet.   Checked a forum and it suggested to go to sheck status and see the problem.   I did and now I have a new mesage.  No DNS server address.   I am hesitant about doing anything because if I do and lose internet connection I am really up a creek without a paddle.

Just to update.   I unplugged my modem for a short time.   When it powered up the light was green on my Airport Extreme.

  • Airport Extreme will not auto connect after poewr out with USB Hub!

    Hi all,
I have just purchased the Airport Extreme and have it connected to my ADSL router. All works fine but if the airport looses power (as the household power went off momentarily today) then once it powers back up it will not connect to the internet unless I unplug the USB hub connected to it first.
    Anyone with similar experiences?

    No
Your issue may have something to do with your ADSL router and/or ISP carrier when you have power interruption.
I would contact Apple to take advantage of your free 90 days of tech support by phone since your product is "new." Let them tell you what the problem is.

  • Airport express Blinks Yellow After Setup

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find the answer.
I'm running windows xp on my desktop and have a DLink wireless router.
I'm trying to use airport express to stream music to my stereo. I've had it up and running in the past, but my airport has been unplugged for the last month and now it's stopped working.
I've set everything up with through the Admin utility with my airport connected to my router via ethernet.
Everything is fine until I click to update, the airport restarts, then nothing... just a flashing yellow light.
If anyone could point me in the right direction or tell me what I 'm doing wrong it would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried reseting it and starting from a clean slate? Set it up and then post back.

  • Unable to connect to DNS 323 after switch to Airport Extreme even after factory reset

    Hi everyone,
I have a NAS that I love and have more then my entire life on. I've had it for a long time and it's almost full. Any solution including to format the drives will be shunned.
The NAS has worked fine for a long time since I set it to a static IP. Last week I installed the Aiport Extreme and the NAS was lost. The new IP series start at 10.., and the old at 192... something.
I've searched the web for ideas and the best ones seem to be hooking up the nas to the old router and removing the ip adress. That's a mess. I tried to reset the configuration to facotry settings but that did nothing. I can't find the NAS on my PS, the DLink easy search utility comes up blank.
    Any ideas?

Thank you very much for your reply, I'm sure that it would have worked but something better, more magical happened. It automatically set itself!!
Sometimes I love technology. I resetted the NAS twice. Once with the networkcable in it, and once directly after without the network cable in it. And then I called it a day. Surfed a little and pondered the mess of taking down the NAS from the high half hidden shelf and pulling out the old router, finding this above possible solution and planned to do it another day.
Today I saw that the NAS had appeard on the network! I could access the web interface and set password and static ip from the dynamic one.

  • Airport Extreme (n) router keeps resetting.

My internet keeps going on and off, Ive reset to factory defaults and it keeps resetting every 10-15 minutes for a few seconds. The only thing I have changed is added 1 port forward.

I have the exact same problem and it has only been since just after the new years actually about the time the new time capsule was released it started happening I don't really want to hard wire my connection that is why I have wireless router so my Mac doesn't have to be like pc with wires coming out of it like an octopus as a caveat my time machine stopped working without warning too a few days ago??????????????HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM anyone else?

  • Airport extreme wants my apple id? Where do I enter it?

My airport extreme blinks yellow all the time. I looked at it via airport utility on iPad and the message is that my apple id was entered incorrectly and told me to enter it again but gave no provision for doing so. Where do I do that. My apple id works fine on all my OSX and iOS devices.
I want my green light back!

This is an older post- but I had the same issue and just resolved it. Quick recap, after a recent update, my airport extreme (and airport express) both had errors. When I checked the error (paraphrase) said that it had an unregonized Apple ID password. (NOTE: this is NOT the device password). I had not updated my password, but I had setup Back to My Mac a few weeks prior.
The issue here is related to Back To My Mac. Unfortunately, I was not able to update the password on the iOS Airport utility (where I had previously viewed this error and tried to resolve it). I also tried several suggestions i found online, but none helped.
I finally fixed it by loading the Airport Utility on my Mac (I found it by using Spotlight search (magnifying glass icon in the upper right hand corner of your Mac's screen).
This will display your network devices and when you click on your Airport Express or Extreme, it will display the error and an 'Edit' icon (something the iOS app does NOT do). Clicking 'edit' will pull up your Apple ID username and a field for password. I entered my password, clicked "update" (which will restart the Airport device) and the error was gone!
It seems some update wiped out the Apple ID pasword and it just had to be re-entered to continue Apple ID access for Back to my Mac.
    Hope this helps!

  • Have a blinking yellow light on airport express.  Reset... Still Blinking.  What do I do?

Airport Express has blinking yellow light.  Reset.  Still blinking yellow.  All other apple products, Apple TV, Mac's connecting fine to Airport Extreme.
Had to reset AE a few months ago and have not used this airport extreme since that. Suspect is a simple fix but not doing something right.  Anyone help?

A persistent, flashing amber light indicates that any of the several potential conditions may require your attention:
The base station has not yet been configured because it is new, or the reset switch has been set.
You have selected a security configuration that is not recommended.
One of several other conditions, such as a disconnected Ethernet cable or invalid IP address has been detected.
    (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305101)
If you run the AirPort Utility, it will show an amber circle on the summary page next to the area(s) causing the problem. Click on this amber circle and it should provide an explanation.
