Airport extreme card in g4 ppc - compatible with Mac Pro?

I have an airport extreme card in my g4 PPC. dual 1.25ghz - fw800.
question is, can i take this airport extreme card and put it in my new Mac Pro Dual 2.66ghz intel machine?

No, the AirPort Extreme card is not compatible with the Mac Pro.
The Mac Pro requires a special wireless card. Apple requires installation by an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP).

  • Airport Extreme Card - USA version not compatible with Europe?

I'm having some problems with the Airport Extreme Card in my Mac Mini i.e. my connection to the internet is mind numbingly slow when using it. I have no issues when I hook it up directly with a LAN cable and I've used a friends Macbook to connect to the wireless router and their connection works perfectly.
    My specs...
    AirPort Card Information:
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x86)
    Wireless Card Locale: USA
    Wireless Card Firmware Version: 1.4.3.1
    Current Wireless Network: SpeedTouch3C84E7
    Wireless Channel: 11
Now here's where I think the problem lies, I bought this machine in the US but am now living in Belgium...you'll note that the card locale is set to USA. My friends machine has a card locale of worldwide and I think this difference is causing the issue. I found another thread that mentions using a USA card in europe limits the number of available channels but I'm still in the dark as to what to do about it.
Is the locale changeable via a software setting or is the hardware different...maybe there's a firmware change I could make?
If it's hardware is this something my Apple store can switch for me?
If I'm really stuck can I switch my router to the US settings to fix the issue?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks for the help!
    Chris

hi. I think that the only difference between USA and worldwide cards is that ww cards have additional channels (12 and 13). You should be able to use your mini in Europe.

  • AirPort Extreme card not compatible with Mac Pro???

    Hey,
I recently purchased my Mac Pro without thinking to include any hardware for connecting to a wireless network.
I have recently moved into a new apartment which I am keen to join to a wireless network which has just been set up by my roommate for his PC and Laptop.
I was going to buy an AirPort Extreme card, but I have read that it is not compatible with the Mac Pro. Yet when I looked at the configure process for a new mac it was listed as one of the devises offered for wireless networking!!
    I am very confused...
I was wondering if anyone could help me, i just need to know what hardware i will need and how it would be installed.
thanks, all help will be greatly appreciated!
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

the mac pro takes a slightly different airport express card. you have to purchase it at the retail store and have them install it. in my experience they will not allow you to purchase one and install it yourself due to the difficulty of installing it. best thing to do take your macpro into a apple retail store and see what they can do.

  • Airport extreme card in g4 ppc

I bought an airport extreme card today for my g4 ppc desktop, dual 1.25 g4. i installed the software on the cd that came with, but whenever i install the airport card and start up, it does not "bong", instead it does that extremely loud fan noise and never starts up. any ideas on why this could be happening and how to remedy the situation? thanks!

Which dual 1.25 GHz G4 do you have? Does it have a FireWire 800 port?
If your G4 does NOT have a FireWire 800 port it is NOT compatible with the AirPort Extreme card. It will require the original AirPort card.

  • Airport Extreme Utility Disc is not compatible with OS 10.. help please

I recently purchased the Airport Extreme (model A1301)  (second hand)  to use with my new imac. I didnt realise till I tried to set it up that the disc that comes with it to install the airport utility isnt compatible with OS 10.8.3 version that I am running. So I cant install it. Is there anyway around fixing this so that I can still use the device?

The Airport Utility built into OS X should be able to administer it. If you can't find it in your Utilities folder, you can download it here:

  • USB-3 card reader that is compatible with MacBook Pro (Retina) and Mountain Lion

Can anybody recommend a USB-3 based CompactFlash memory card reader that works with the MacBook Pro (Retina) and Mountain Lion (or, at least, Lion)?
    Thanks in advance...

Thanks for your reply, Clinton. But I already have two readers that are USB-2 compatible. Now I need the one like I described above. I am using only the fastest CF cards available.
I have read some user reports (on Amazon) on two readers relevant to my needs - SanDisk and Lexar - but I'm still not sure whether they are fully compatible with the Retina MacBook and Mountain Lion. As a matter of fact, I doubt it...

  • Is osx mountain lion compatible with mac pro (4,1) w/ raid card?

I noticed Apple isn't selling the Mac Pro's with raid cards anymore, so it makes me wonder of Mountain Lion is compatible with my Mac Pro which uses the apple mac pro raid card.  Anyone know??

Thanks Kappy.  I'm more interested in the RAID card compatibility.  Anyone else know?

  • Best graphics card compatible with Mac Pro?

I still have the stock ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series from 2010 that shipped with it. Everything else is holding up but I'm noticing the graphics card is starting to get a bit dated. I've never upgraded a graphics card on a mac so I'm wandering what kind of cards I can and cant buy.

Windows and  games then you can use whatever you can power.
That could be GTX 570 or ATI 7xxx
Only issue is you only have 2 x 6-pin auxillary cables.
you might buy a flashed GTX from MacVidCards

  • Airport Extreme Update 2008-004 Fails Install on Mac Pro 2.8Ghz

After running the Software Update and being notified that Airport Extreme Update 2008-004 was available, I ran the install program and received the following error:
"The update "AirPort Extreme Update 2008-004" can't be saved.
The digital signature for this package is incorrect. The package may have been tampered with or corrupted since being signed by "Apple"."
When I ran SW Update on my iMac 2.4Ghz, the same install ran and installed fine. Anyone have any ideas on what's ailing my Mac Pro (the newer machine)?
    Thanks in advance.

It's now available from software update page:

    Try download it manually.

  • DBT-120 Bluetooth 2.0 Adapter not Compatible with Mac Pro V 10.4.10?

    Hello!
    I recently purchased a
    *D-Link DBT-120 Bluetooth 2.0 USB Adapter* (My Mac Pro is *V 10.4.10*)
in order to resolve the Mac Pro / Bluetooth issue.
I put in the CD for installation and all of the files (.exe, etc.) read as PC files.
I was told by D-link that the adapter mentioned above is not compatible with this higher version of the Mac Pro.
However, I have read that other users have had success with the DBT-120.
    Does anyone have any recommendations?
    Thank you!
    Jeff

What exactly IS the mac pro/ bluetooth issue?
Some Mac Pros were (are?) shipped with incorrect labelling and connection of the AirPort and Bluetooth internal antenna wires. The causes reduced Bluetooth range.

  • Ati X1900 pulled from G5 quad, is it compatible with Mac Pro original ?

I had a G5 quad that had an Ati Radeon X1900 video card, which I purchased to allow the portrait feature.
At any rate, I've since purchased a Mac Pro and was wondering if this card is compatible with the Mac Pro 1,1
    Thanks

No, G5 used different Open Firmware, while Intel Macs use EFI.
The ATI 4870 is, and no idea if 5870/5770 will be. But the OEM 7300GT is something you want to replace if that is what it had. An 8800GT would be nice.

  • Help: A bluray drive compatible with MAc Pro 1.1 2006 2007

    Hi,
Seems my factory bundled Pioneer dvd drive is bad and I need a compatible bluray drive now.
I have read that there are some issues with some models of  Pioneer and LG drives.
I tried to install older LG DVD drives I had here and they just kept ejecting dvd discs.
However, they were able to burn cd-Rs.
I was advised to search for Pioneer Bdr-208dbk
    and LG WH14NS40MP  .
Here in Brazil we have similar names, maybe they are adapted for our country market.
I am using Toast 10 with OS 10.6.8.
    MAc Pro 2.66 8GB RAM.
    Any help is greatly welcomed!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Looking for USB Hub compatible with Mac Pro 8 Core (early 2008)!

I need a good, reliable USB Hub. I was looking at a D-Link with 7 ports but I read a review on Amazon saying it didn't work well with 8 core Mac Pro. The reviewer said the Mac only recognized some of the time upon start up and he had to unplug and replug to get it going.
Not sure if this was user error or faulty product.
Anyone have any experience with a good reliable 7 port USB Hub? Perhaps even with this D-Link?
    Thanks!
    Zap

There are also reports (see http://www.hardmac.com today) of over loading USB ports on Mac Pro... even if you only use the available ports and hubs (like Cinema Display which should be getting its own power, but does not).
I would strongly recommend a PCIe controller first.
