Airport extreme card won't connect to internet. Says cable unplugged.

I have an aiport extreme card in my emac. It was installed around a year and a half ago and has workd fine until yesterday. it suddenly says that it is not configured. It also says the antenna cable is unplugged and that it is turned off. I tried to trouble shoot it with internet connection assistant which says cable is unplugged and aiport is off. I have taken the card out and reinstalled it and reattached the cable mutiple times to no avail. And yes, I know how hard it is to push in. Any ideas? Thanks. Shannon

    Purchased an Airport Extreme card on eBay.
    It sees router immediately, but when I try to connect it gives the extremely informative message:
    " There was an error joining the Airport network "(name)"
    I have a number of other Macs and PCs and my Blackberry and my son's iPhone that can successfully connect, but not this beast. I have reinstalled the card several times with no success. I'm guessing it's ok since it sees my router immediately. I've entered the password 100% correctly. I've even reconfigured the router not to require a password. Same thing. In desperation, I've even tried reconfiguring the eMac to use only 1GB RAM after seeing that suggested for a similar iBook problem. No help.
    So... how do I determine what the "error" was that's preventing connection? And how do I fix it?
    Any suggestions welcome.

    I've installed an airport extreme card on my Mac Pro, but every time, I have to go to "network" and connect manually... any ideas? It's my only network and the "remember networks" is checked.

    Sounds as though maybe your AE wireless card may have failed;
    and if you've tried more than a few times to re-seat the card into
    the slot and had no results, you may see about trying the card
    in another compatible computer to see if just the card is bad.
    You may be able to swap out the part to restore wireless access;
    but I am not sure of any situation that may limit your recourse
    through the reseller of the card you now have. They may not take
    it back, in other words. But to find out if the issue is your AE Card
    or some other potential issue is an important pursuit. So, if you
    can, perhaps a reseller of new parts can let you see if a new card
    will resolve this issue by trying a new card and see if it shows in
    the System Profiler; and if access to the internet is available nearby,
    to also see if it connects readily.

    I have an AirPort Extreme card (0x14E4, 0x90) Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.36.1) in a MacMini Intel Core 2 Duo 3,1.
    Using a Billion 7404VNPX wireless router, the card will only run on 802.11g.
    At the same time, I've fitted a 3rd party wireless g/n card to an ancient PowerMac G4, and it runs perfectly happily on 802.11n
    Can someone suggest how to make the card do what it's supposed to do?

  • PB's Airport Extreme card not staying connected - please help diagnose

    My thread Airport extremem card can't hang onto wifi signal - what to do? in the "Getting Online" forum hasn't generated a solution, so I'm trying here too.
    In the past few weeks, my airport signal bounces around and randomly disconnects me. It goes from no signal (indicated) to 3 bars then bounces around. It occurred with my own Airport Extreme card (in the PB) and my Belkin router, and the library's wifi.
    The problem may have started after an erase-and-install of Panther with an upgrade using the combo 10.3.9. The only security updates I see receipts or packages of are SecUpd2005-004Pan.pkg, SecUpd2007-002Pan.pkg, SecurityUpdate2004-10-27Pan.pkg.
    The usual troubleshooting (Permissions, Chrons, Disk Warrior) didn't solve anything. Since first posting about this problem I've reapplied the 10.3.9 combo. I tried changing the channel on the router and setting it to Protected Mode.

    I then installed Airport 4.2 update because Software Updater presented it as an option.
    Until today iStumbler and MacStumbler were showing 29-35% signal strength with no noise. As of today, iStumbler is showing intermittent noise of ~14-21%, but MacStumbler is not. (It was constant when I tried channel 9 and changing the router's back to 10 made it intermittent.)
    The router is serving a desktop computer via ethernet so I can't move it. I have reset the router and cable modem several times with no improvement.
    Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? Thanks.

    I would have come back to edit this, to say that the dropping signal problem came back since the 10.3.9 combo but I couldn't. The darn wifi signal was lost for something like 7 minutes.
    The PB was sitting in exactly the same place and toggling airport on and off wouldn't reconnect it. It generated many lines in the console. Anyone know what this means?

  • Airport Extreme Card can't connect to wireless network

    Hello All,
    I recently installed an Airport Extreme Card into my PowerMac G5, but am having difficulty connecting to the existing wireless network. The card appears to be installed correctly, and Airport comes up and says it's running, but doesn't see any available wireless networks. An iMac 5 feet away (and no closer to the airport extreme base station) connects perfectly. With all the info about the antenna, i've triple checked to make sure the antenna is completely installed in the card so I don't think that is the issue. It's part no. M8881LL/A Model No. A1028 and it's installed in a PowerMac Dual 2Ghz PowerPC G5. I'm wondering if there is a compatibility issue? Any comments?

    Thanks for the welcome and the reply. The PowerMac is an older one so I don't have the external antenna, and have looked around for one with no luck. I just ordered one and it will be here tomorrow so I'm hoping you saved the day and that's the ticket. Thanks so much for the help! I'll update this again if that solves my problem, but just wanted to say thanks... i'll know more on Monday.

  • Airport Extreme doesn't wirelessly connect to internet unless a wired connection exists

    I have a 5-6 year old Airport Extreme that has started acting up. I have 5-6 devices (ipods/ipad/imac/windows pc) that normally don't have a problem connecting to the extreme wirelessly & have an xbox 360 connected via cable. Just recently I've found that none of my wireless devices can connect to the internet without the xbox 360 being turned on & signed into the internet ... the xbox doesn't seem to have any connection issues at all through the cabled connection. I hadn't updated the firmware or made changes to my network before this started, I just applied the latest firmware update to the extreme but it didn't solve anything. I've searched for solutions elsewhere but really couldn't find any solutions.
    Any hints or is it time to retire this admittedly aged router?

    If you have the HP 2605dn printer attached to the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) (or any router) by Ethernet, then the AEBSn is NOT performing as a Print Server. Instead, the printer itself would have to be configured to provide this service.
    I don't have this particular printer, but I do have a network-ready HP Officejet model that I have my network clients (Macs, PCs, & even Linux) connect to. The key is either using the unit's interfact panel to configure the appropriate network settings specific for your network.

  • Green light on Airport Extreme but will not connect to internet

    I have tried restarting computer and Airport Extreme but it will not connect to internet.  Unit has been working great up until now.  I have made no changes in system.
    This Airport/time machine is 2009 version.

    The Cisco DPC 3010 is a cable modem, so you will need to let the modem completely reset before you connect it to the AirPort Extreme.
    It may be necessary to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme and reconfigure it, but we will try a shortcut first to see if that can be avoided.
    Power off the entire network.....all devices....modem, AirPort, computers, mobile devices, etc in any order that you want.
    Be sure to disconnect the power cable on the modem, either on the back of the device or pull the power cord from the wall AC jack
    Leave everything powered off for at least 30 minutes.  Longer is better, as it sometimes takes the equipment back at the ISP longer to completely reset and issue a new fresh IP address to the modem.
    After the wait period, power up the modem first, and let it run for at least 5 minutes by itself. If your modem documentation states that the modem should be powered up for 15 minutes, then go with 15.
    Power up the AirPort Extreme next, and let it run a few minutes
    Then power up other devices one at a time about a minute apart
    When the entire network is back up, check the network.
    It this does not work, you will have to start over again as above, except this time you will need to perform a Factory Default Reset on the AirPort Extreme.
    To do that, power off the AirPort Exterme for a few minutes
    Hold in the reset button on the back of the Extreme.....and keep holding it in for an additional 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back into the Extreme
    Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the Extreme to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    Power off the AirPort now, and start it back up in the proper sequence
    If things still don't work, then you likely have a defective AirPort Extreme that will need to be replaced.

  • Airport Extreme 1st generation not connecting to internet via PPPoE.

    The Extreme is replacing an existing Airport Express which successfully connects to the internet. I reset the Airport Extreme to the factory settings and started from there. The internet provider requires it be setup using PPPoE. I've tried several times to set up a new wireless network but the Airport Extreme isn't connecting to the internet, can't find DNS servers. I contacted the internet provider and confirmed that all settings/usernames/passwords are correct. I cycled the power on the DSL modem, unplugging it for several minutes a few times. Finally I took the whole setup to the local Genius Bar. Since they couldn't setup a PPPoE network there, the Apple Tech set up the Extreme using DHCP so we know it works. He suggested that I try replacing the wireless network instead of setting up a new network. I came home and tried that to the same results: no DNS servers and PPPoe not connecting to the internet. Everything in the Extreme is exactly the same as the Express except the Express works and the Extreme doesn't. What am I missing?
    Some background:
    I purchased and used the Extreme in the US. Now trying to connect it to my MacBook in Canada. I did change the setting in the Extreme to "Canada"
    I just the computer to 10.6.8. I ran the Disk Utility to repair the disk permissions several times.

    If you temporarily connect the modem directly to your MacBook and set up a PPPoE connection on your Mac as a test......can it connect to the Internet that way?

  • Hard Drive attached to Airport Extreme (AC) won't connect

    I cannot connect to my USB hard drive which is connected to my new Airport Extreme (Wireless AC) router.  If I unplug the hard drive, it seems to work for a bit.  Then for unknown reasons, I am unable to connect to it.
    It worked in 10.8 fine, I never had any problems until I just updated to 10.9 yesterday.
    The official error I get is: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Airport'. Check the server name or IP Address, and then try again.  If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator."

    Two things to check:
    1) The drive must be formatted in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Use Disk Utility in the Applications > Utilities folder to verify.
    2) The USB port on the AirPort Extreme is not a high powered port like you have on a Mac. It is often necessary to use a powered USB hub with any drive connected to the AirPort Extreme....even if the drive has its own power supply.

  • E1000 won't connect to internet through cable modem

    I just switched internet providers and now have a cable modem. The internet works when I have it plugged directly into my computer. My wireless card recognizes and connects to my E1000, but the E1000 won't connect to the internet even though the ethernet cable is plugged into the correct ports. The cable provider left because it's obviously a problem with the router itself.
    I've tried all the usual tricks--resetting the modem, resetting the router, resetting the computer, etc. Unfortunately, another problem I discovered in the midst of all this is that I no longer have Cisco Connect installed on my computer, and I have somehow managed to lose the CD for it.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

    Suggestion:
    1. Download the Cisco Connect software from the Cisco website (click HERE)
    2. Connect the router, modem and hardwired the laptop to the router as well
    3. Reset the router
    4. Run the Cisco Connect software

  • Time Capsule won't connect to internet, says ethernet isn't connected

    I have the 2013 Time Capsule + Airport. I tried setting it up as normal, connecting the ethernet cord to the WAN port and to my charter modem. During setup it sticks on the screen saying that the ethernet cord isn't connected. I have done everything trying to fix it. I've reset the modem, the time capsule, tried to redo the set up, tried skipping the setup and power cycling the sytem. I've unplugged the modem for an hour, turned off wireless to all laptops, unplugged the time capsule, and then powered the modem on and let it run for over half an hour. Then I started the time capsule, let it run for half an hour. Tried to see if it could connect to the internet, nothing. It keeps flashing amber. The ethernet cord works, as does the modem, as I can still use my old Belkin router that I was hoping to replace with this time capsule. It's just the time capsule. I'm losing my mind trying to get this thing to work. My modem doesn't have a reset button, so that won't do it. If there are any terminal commands that might fix it I'm open to trying that as well. Anything, at all, would be helpful, because I have no idea why this thing won't work.

    Is your charter modem also a router?
    When you plug the ethernet cord in, does the ethernet connectivity light come on.. both on the modem and on the TC port.. ?
    Try setting up the TC in total isolation.
    Reset it to factory.. the full method.. ie power off the TC.. Hold in reset.. power on the TC, without releasing reset. Keep holding in reset for 5-10 sec until the main LED goes to rapid flash mode.. then release it.
    Do not plug between the TC and modem.. but you can run the cable to the computer..
    Do a full manual setup.. this is a bit tricky.
    After a full reset the TC will come backup in router mode with an IP address of 10.0.1.1 and the ethernet plugged into the computer should show 10.0.1.2
    Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local.. it is important.
    Now open the airport utility.
    Go to configure other.
    Type in the IP address. (Password is not needed after a reset but if you do it is public)
    Now you will get the manual setup screen.
    Go to the base station page and give your TC a simple name.. eg TCGen5
    These are my setup which is older one.
    Go to the internet tab and choose dhcp.
    No picture required I hope.
    Go to the wireless page and setup wireless. In your case TCGen5 is also a good wireless name.
    Or you can give separate names to the two bands. TC24ghz for 2.4ghz
    And TC5ghz for the 5ghz band.
    Now finally the most important screen.. Network.
    Is the modem a pure modem.. no router.. pick the top option.. DHCP and NAT.
    Is the modem a router as well, pick the bottom option. Off (Bridge Mode).
    Then do update of the TC..
    Plug it into the Modem.. WAN port of the TC.. make sure the ethernet connectivity led come on..
    Open the Airport utility and see if it has got an IP on Internet tab.. no luck.. take the TC back to apple for testing. Faulty out of the box is happening.

    For months I have not been able to connect to my internet at home from my MacBook Pro. I have tried restarting the router many times. All of my other devices, as well as my roommates' devices connect to the internet. My wifi icon at the top says that it has connected but that the ISP has failed when I refer to the diagnostics. I've tried countless troubleshooting articles and none have worked so far. Any suggestions?

    Im going to answer my own question. Problem Fixed! After I was on the phone for over an hour with a senior advisor we found the problem was with the download or the instilation. He had me Shut Down Computer and hold down Command and R then press power button hold this down until the recovery window pops up. Then reinstall mountain lion os system. this does not wipe out documents, photos and apps like windows does. I didnt know this since Im new to MacBooks. Hopefully this may help someone else.
    PS I beleive In order to do this you need to be plugged into your router to have internet access. They had me do this. This will take about an hour but now Im up and running.

    Check that you inserted your AirPort Extreme card
    "completely".
    Check that the antenna cable isn't under the bracket.

    I have tried just about everything, but I can't seem to connect my MAC OS X 10.3.9 to the internet. I am using the Airport Extreme Card and no networks show up. I am trying to connect to my DLink router. I was told by DLink that it is compatible with AirPort Extreme cards, but the guys at Best Buy were unable to connect to their wireless routers, other than their Mac Router.
