Airport Extreme Causing Mail to Quit?

Since I changed my internet connection to a wireless one, getting an Airport Extreme today, Mail quits whenever I try to reply to someone's email...very strange.
On a possibly unrelated note, Software Update doesn't recognize my internet connection, telling me that I'm not connected when I clearly am.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

I think this is what you're looking for (sorry if I pasted too much!):

  • Viewing Sent Mail Causes Mail to Quit Unexpectedly

I am on an iMac, OS X 10.6.8 using Mail 4.5.  I have two different email accounts that I use.  No problems with sending messages, but I can not view the copy in the Sent folder for either mailbox.  When I try to open a Sent message, Mail crashes with a message 'Mail has quit unexpectedly' and no other information. I really need to access copies of my Sent messages!  This happens with both email accts.

I have this too and it's driving me crazy. Wish some expert could address it, 'cause I'm not finding solutions anywhere.
Bit since you posted about this a long time ago, did you figure a fix? Do you remember what it was?

  • AirPort Extreme Causes WinXP to Restart

I installed a new AirPort Extreme yesterday in compatabiity mode.
    1. Works perfectly with my MacBook.
    2. Works perfectly with my WinXP laptop.
    3. Causes my WinXP desktop (freshly installed) to restart when attempting to connect to the network... every time.
There is no error message or blue screen... just a sudden restart. I suspect it is a compatibility issue with the Linksys WMP11 wireless network adapter and installed the latest driver from Linksys.
Are there any settings that need to be changed to correct this?

    Thanks for the welcome.
In a sense, it is an AEBS issue as the Linksys adapter works with other routers. The problem began with the introduction of the AEBS into the network.
As in marriage counseling, the issue is not with one or the other but between the two (not that I would know).

  • Connecting HDD to Airport Extreme causes orange death light...

I am in a small office network with mix of pc and mac (7 pc's, 1 iMac, 1 wireless iMac, and 3 wireless macbook pro's). Internet connection comes into building directly to airport. Airport then feeds a couple of systems directly and a Dlink 24port ethernet switch which connects all other hardwired network connections.
I just purchased a Seagate Freeagent Desk 1.5TB external USB2 drive to be used as a network storage drive (not with time machine just grabbing and dumping files for interoffice sharing). Removed preloaded software and formatted fat32. Disk will be mounted and recognized when connected to any mac directly. When connected to the usb port on the airport extreme it begins to initialize and then bombs. Airport gives the orange death light and there is no connectivity to the router for all (ie internet connection, etc.) When you unglug the HDD the router reboots and then goes back to green light of peacefulness. What am I missing? Setting? Order of connection? Not hitting it hard enough on the ground with a large 10lb sledge hammer? Help me out...

you may need to restart the AEBSn with the drive plugged in.
since it might have been long since the AEBSn was restarted and anything else attached to it.
or a restore to factory settings...
i know not the best you want to hear, it should just work.
make sure all the AEBSn updates are there...etcetc
i was having this problem the past month or so and it started working again flawlessly after a few restarts.

  • Seagate Backup Plus 3 HFS  formatted drive when plugged in to new Airport Extreme causes it to shut off and shows constant amber light.  Please help.

I just purchased a new 3tb Seagate Backup Plus 3 to attach to my new Airport Extreme.  When I plug the Seagate's USB in to the AE, the drive starts spinning, clicks and then the AE light turns amber and the wifi connection is lost.  After I unplug the HDD the signal comes back and the AE light turns green.  I have even tried using 3 partitions on the drive to see if that would work.  I have a 1tb portable drive that has worked on the AE but this new drive doesn't.  I have formatted both drives with Macdrive 9 pro and only the portable drive has worked.  I've tried everything I could find on the internet to resolve this.  I hope someone out there can help.

When it blinks amber, use the airport utility to peek at the status to see what error it's telling you. I'm guessing you MAY need to use a powered hub...

  • Airport Extreme causes ssh_exchange_identification for SFTP

I get ssh_exchange_identification during a client SFTP session to webserver behind a Load balanced server.
SFTP works with Lion and Snow Leopard but does not work with my Airport Extreme in place. SFTP also works with other firewalls in other networks. It seems the Airport is the culprit. This should be straight forward as its just a client session going out.  Tried many modification to OSX but not sure if they are really needed since SFTP works fine without the Airport Extreme. Aiport is running 7.6.1.  Below is the SFTP log.

Looks to me a connection is started on port 22 then gets clipped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

my IP did not sure. i am positive of that.
The DNS problem is not constant, sometimes it works without pinging the others i have to ping manually.
by the way, i am trying to SSH into the same computer i am using :S
i know it is stupid not to SSH user@localhost
yes, @localhost works, but before that day, i used to ssh @my IP
HTTP works perfectly again, it was a DHCP error

  • Airport Extreme causing "Connection Failed" to connected disk

I have a relatively new Airport Extreme, with a MyBook 500GB external hard drive connected to it. There are 2 Macs (a MBP and Mac Mini) that backup to that hard drive wirelessly with Time Machine. Both Macs have no problem connecting to the disk drive for a couple of days or so, and then all of a sudden, Time Machine reports an error, and when trying to open the drive in Finder, I get the error message "Connection Failed". Every time this happens, I can fix it by unplugging the drive from the Airport Extreme, and plugging it back in. That will usually make it work for a couple of days, but sometimes less time than that.
I can't see it being a formatting issue with the disk, or any kind of connection issue, since it does work for a period of time. But why is does it suddenly stop working for both Macs?

    Welcome to the discussions!
Your drive is formatted correctly if you have been able to make Time Machine backups.
Part of the problem may be that Apple does not officially support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme. That doesn't mean it won't work...it's just that Apple will not provide any help when difficulties arise with this configuration.
Some users report that this works well for them and others report intermittent to constant problems.
You might try using Disk Utility to check and repair permissions on your computers that are backing up to the Time Capsule.
Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Click the disk on the left that exactly matches the name of the hard drive on your desktop. If you have not renamed it, it will be Macintosh HD.
Click Repair Permissions. This will take 30-60 minutes on average.

  • RSS Feeds cause Mail to quit

Whenever I click on the RSS feeds or try to modify or delete them, Mail quits immediately. Any ideas what is causing this?

When an application crashes (i.e. quits unexpectedly), the system writes information about the state of the application at the moment of the crash to a log file. That information is called a crash report and makes troubleshooting easier. In order to find and post the relevant part of the crash report here, proceed as follows:
    1. Open ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Mail.crash.log. The whole crash log appears in a Console window (you can also open that file with any text editor). It may contain many crash reports. We only want the latest, which is located at the bottom of the file.
    2. Look for a line that begins with “Date/Time:” as close to the bottom as possible, and another that says “Thread N Crashed:”, where N is a number. Select everything from the “Date/Time:” line to the lines immediately following “Thread N Crashed:”. Copy that text and paste it in your post. Do not post the whole crash log, and do not include anything beyond the lines immediately following “Thread N Crashed:” either, just the relevant part.
Take a look at the following thread for examples of what a crash report looks like:

Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Attached documents cause Mail to quit

A week ago Mail stated to quit unexpectedly every time I tried to open an email with attached documents, or to send one with attachments. I tried setting up another user and the same email account works fine for the new user. I am not certain if this is significant, but I notice that when in the new user when I go to Mail > Preferences I see the account listed and highlighted, but in my usual user doing the same thing I see no account listed- although when i hit the Edit button in that window it brings up my account details. Any ideas?

  • I have a message in my draft folder which causes mail to quit. I cannot delete it?

I have a message in my draft folder which shuts down the mail program. I am unable to delete it.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Airport Extreme Causing Kernel Panics - Looking for Options

I have an iBook G4/1.42 gHz/512MB (mid-2005) that is now out of warranty. All of a sudden, it starts throwing kernel panics. I read through the panic log and the log has references to the built-in Airport card. Keep in mind this is the model with the Airport card that is not easy to remove.
I turned off the Airport card and the KP's have stopped. At this point, I'm looking for suggestions. Am I better off trying to replace the Airport card or is there an external device that will suffice at lower cost. Thanks for your input.

I'm in the same boat ... the kernel panics made me think I was using a windows machine. I should have known something was starting to go wrong when the internal fan was turning on more and more -- it must have been trying to cool the airport card off!
Right now, I have airport and bluetooth turned off and I haven't seen panic since and the fan has stayed off. I'm using a firewall connection and internet sharing to my work laptop so my wife can use her email (a very temporary solution).
The www.ifixit.com site has 'cards' for $70 and claim the installation is "difficult" -- they don't even offer installation instructions.
For now, I think I'll run a wire from the airport to the where the iBook normally resides. And maybe when I concede that my iBook won't get fixed by itself, I order one of the external USB 802.11b/g dongles.

  • USB and AirPort Extreme

Does anybody know if taking out a USB hard drive from a Airport Extreme causes any problems. I have taken a USB stick out and didn't know if I was hurting the Stick because I didn't eject it.
    Thanks

    It can.
Basically, depending on the file system in use and what's going on, you may have inadvertently removed the drive when it was in the middle of a write, possibly corrupting a file or the file system on the drive.
Further, if it's a USB-powered drive, it could also cause physical damage to the disk itself when it suddenly loses power.
If you're worried about it, run Disk Utility on the drive to check for any damage, and then don't do it again.

  • Mail unexpectedly quitting when view certain certain senders messages

    Ok...
so i'm send this question in for my boss in our print shop. He made me aware of a mail problem that has been reoccuring this morning.
    1. when viewing just a few sender's emails (Alabama Power, Heidelberg, and a sign co. we use) from any box...whether it be the trash or inbox, when moving the preview panel pane up to preview over a long list of emails, as soon as "The movable Bar" hits a certain point between the list and preview it automatically or unexpectedly quits? This also happens on just a certain few websites, that arent realted to the emailers that are causing the crash. WEIRD STUFF *Sory for run-on sentences..lol*
My first thought was the images that are on the actual body of the email, but, when double clicking into a new window instead of using the preview pane it works fine, and even sometimes when it crashes, there arent any images to load on the email
    His computers specs
OSX.5.6, White-Macbook, Intel Core Duo processor(2.) and 2 gigs of ram
He has been having to just deal with the issue (because he hasnt voiced the issue till today), and does a work around by fowarding the emails to his iMac running the same OS to be able to get preview these emails
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    thanks
Drew (disregard my specs at bottom)

Ok...ive found out a little bit more about the emails that are causing the crashing!
    1. Heildelberg (email) - Its an advertisement email, and dont really know how to label it, but if you click anywhere on the body of the email it re-directs you to their homepage, using the default browser (FIREFOX), but the embedded picture for the graphics is a JPG.
NOTE: THIS REDIRECT DOES NOT CAUSE MAIL TO QUIT, UNLIKE THE NEXT EMAIL DOES??
    2. ABCsigns (email) - This sign company we use sends us quotes, so when i go to their emails (which are currently in the trash), as soon as i click on the email preview pane...Mail auto-quits...They are sending us .PDF attachments as our quotes
so it may be a problem with their attachment (ABCsigns) that is causing the crash in Mail, but the Heildeberg emails cause Firefox to crash once re-directed
    WEIRD STUFF
Thanks for any help that can be given
Im, gonna change the default browser to Safari, but know from past experiences that it crashes Safari too
    Thanks,
    Drew

  • Airport Extreme external hdd causes router to reboot

When I try to access my external WD hard drive (formatted to FAT32) on my AirPort Extreme, it freezes and causes the router to reboot. How do I fix this?
I am accessing the hdd from windows 7 pc.

Try adding a powered USB hub....even if the WD drive has its own power supply.
Reason...the USB port is borderline as far as its ability to supply sufficient power for a hard drive even when the Extreme is new and even when the drive has its own power supply.
If the Extreme is a few years old, it is not delivering as much power to the USB port as it once did, and it needs some help.
Worst case, the internal power supply on the Extreme is starting to head South. That is usually not an issue until the device is 4-5 years old.
