Must be Apple Airport devices in order to extend a wireless signal.

  • Can an AirPort Extreme connect to a wireless router; i.e.: Verizon Jetpack?

I just dumped Comcast in favor of Verizon's Jetpack.  Can I configure my Airport to use the Verizon router, or can I connect it (at least) to my two comouters to maintain the Time Machine backups?

Check with Verizon to see if they have a Jetpack with an Ethernet port option....or an adapter that would convert the wireless from the Verizon Jetpack to an Ethernet signal, so the AirPort can connect.
An AirPort Express might be able to "join" the Verizon wireless network and provide an Ethernet signal from the AirPort Extreme.
I say "might" because I do not know if this will work. Better to use an adapter from Verizon to insure compatibility.

  • Airport Extreme connected to a linksys router - need help finding PCs on ls

Hello, I just set up an iMac connected to an airport extreme that connects to the internet through an existing linksys that is connected to my cable modem. I also want to share files with two PCs on that are connected to the linksys and share the printer that is on my airport extreme with all three machines. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You'll need to enable +Wireless Bridging+ on the router and open the relevant ports in the Firewall for printing and file sharing (see the Linksys Manual).
As to sharing files and sharing printers after you've configured the router then take a look at iFelix's excellent guides:
    Printer Sharing
    File Sharing.

  • G5 with Airport Extreme connecting to Linksys wireless router

OK. I just bought a G5 and I added an Airport Extreme card (I'm a switcher, new to Mac's). I have cable internet connection and if I connect the Cable Modem directly the connection to the Internet is great. I cannot connect through the Linksys router at all. The switch component does not work right, nor do the wireless connection. My Windows PC's work fine, however.
Is there a trick to configuring this wireless connection on the Mac? Is the e2 device the Airport Extreme card?
Any information on this would be helpful.
    Thanks one and all.

    Thanks for the reply, Duane.
While I am having trouble with the G5, the PC's all seem to connect just fine without the need to restart the cable modem. I should clarify my statement: With the line from the modem directly attached to the hard ethernet connection on the Mac (bypassing the router) the connection to the Internet is great. If I connect through the Linksys router from the same e0 device, it fails to connect. Also, if I turn off all security on the router and try to connect wirelessly, the Mac cannot connect. The system profiler shows the wireless adapter, 802.11g device, and it seems to be running as far as I can tell.

  • Can airport extreme connect using a mac mini.  the base station is not recognized so i cannot configure it manually

can airport extreme connect using a mac mini.  this airport extreme wont connect to internet via my cable modem.  I cant set it to bridge mode because it doesnt appear as a base station in airport utitlity...help

First, is your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) a 802.11n, 802.11g, or 802.11b model? Second, what is your primary goal for using this base station? Finally, is the AEBS the only router in your current network configuration?

  • Can this be done? Airport extreme connected wireless in extend mode to connect a wireless Mac Pro with an ethernet cable from the extended airport extreme..

Can this be done? Airport extreme connected wireless in extend mode to connect a wireless Mac Pro with an ethernet cable from the extended airport extreme.

This will work.....IF....you also have an Apple AirPort router configured to provide your wireless network.
In other words, you need to have two Apple AirPort routers to extend a wireless network.
When the AirPort Extreme is configured to "extend" the wireless of the "main" AirPort, it will provide more wireless coverage and the Ethernet ports are enabled, so you could connect your Mac Pro to any of the Ethernet ports and use that as a network and Internet connection.

  • Purhasing an Airport Extreme especially for controlling WiFi in my house.

I am thinking about purhasing an Airport Extreme especially for controlling WiFi in my house. To protect/limit internet use of my childeren.  Not just a single guest account but perphaps 2 or 3 with different time settings is this possible?  To my opinion it would be ideal to control it via the airport because there is no need for software and via an administration account I should be able to modify the settings

Do you perhaps know of any good parenting tool / app that I can install on the Ipad mini of my childeren.
As LaPastenague says, Apple expects you to set restrictions like this on the device itself. You will select a passcode when you establish the settings that you want. Only you will be able to change the settings that you have selected.....unless you provide the passcode to someone else.
    On the iPad....
    Tap Settings
    Tap General
    Tap Restrictions
See Allow, Allowed Content, Privacy, etc.
For more information about this, you need to post in the iPad support area. The link is here:
    Using iPad
As far as allowed times, again as LaPastenague notes, Timed Access will allow you to do this for any device that connects using wireless.
For example, you could limit the use of the iPad to the hours of 3 PM to 8 PM Weekdays and 8 AM to 11 PM on Weekends.
Another device could be programmed to use the same "rules", or you could establish different "rules".
At the same time, you could specify "Unlimited" access for your own personal computer, etc.

  • Airport Extreme no longer serving WiFi to Windows 7

My Airport Extreme delivers good Wi-Fi for Apple devices, but has stopped delivering Wi-Fi to the two Windows 7 laptops in our house.  The ISP is Comcast and Speedtest.net on the Mac reports 22 Mbps down... on Windows it times out.  If I plug the Windows laptop into the Ethernet port then everything is fine -- 22 Mbps. We have been using WPA2 with no problems.
The iMacs, iPads, iPod and iPhone are fine, but the Windows machines will connect and stay connected to the Wi-Fi network but surfing the web is extremely slow and will time-out on almost every page request.  The HP wireless printer is now intermittent as well.
This problem started about 2 weeks ago.  Was there a software update at that time?  I believe the Airport is the 3rd gen model and is about 3 years old.
I've tried cold rebooting everything and even playing with every security setting including turning WPA2 off, but no luck.  I tried restoring the factory default settings and setting up from scratch.  This worked, but only for about an hour and then the Windows problem was back. Is there a problem with new software in the Airport Extreme?   Or is this a hardware problem?   Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks..

A hard reset seems to have fixed the issue.

  • I wanted to know whether i can diffuse music to the bluetooth only speakers from a airport extreme-connected hard drive through my mac?

I'm interested in the new soundlink mini Bose wireless speakers that function only via bluetooth. I wanted to diffuse music to them from an airport extreme connected hard drive through my macbook air. I don't want to stoc music on my mac given the limited flash drive and don't want to go though wires again. Is that possible? Also I can't go with airport express since those speakers don't have the airplay function.
Thanks a lot for your help or ideas

  • IPhone 5s can connect to wireless WIFI router but can not access internet.

iPhone 5s can connect to wireless WIFI router but can not access internet at work. The admin says the router lets my iPhone connect to LAN, but the iPhone does not have server IP to access the internet. I entered the server IP and port number in the HTTP PROXY fields but I still can not access the web. Any ideas?
    TIA
    Rich

You IT person should be able to sort this out.  But, they seems to be too busy or disinterested to do this.  Suggest you provide the it person with an iPhone to get interested.
Any could be lots of things.
The best you can do is to get access to the admin setup for networking on a pc?  The internet settings are all the same.  Only what names the manufactures change from OS to OS. Check and compare parameters.
Phone works to internet at home, I assume?

  • Cant get my itouch to connect to my wifi router

Ive been having trouble connecting to my wifi router, used the itunes support which suggested that i reset the network settings for my wifi,i did that until i saw the "note" below the instrustions on the itunes support page. the note said that all the passwords would be lost. So i tried to use my wifi after using this, typed in the password but it still did not work. I know its not an issue with the router because my brothers ipod touch can access the wifi through the same router and with the same password. What do i do?!?

Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power to it for 30 seconds.
If this does not work test your iPod on some other networks to see if it may have developed a hardware problem.

  • Can you have two airport extreme connected in the same network?

You can have two airport extreme connected at the same time in a network?
like if you have a modem, you can connect two airport extreme in that modem?

You can have two airport extreme connected at the same time in a network?
    Yes
like if you have a modem, you can connect two airport extreme in that modem?
    Airport Extreme
You should plan to connect one AirPort Extreme to the modem and the second AirPort Extreme to the first. The first Extreme will connect to the modem using an Ethernet cable. The second Extreme can connect to the first also using an Ethernet cable, or it can connect using wireless only.

  • HT204400 Apple TV unable to connect to the WiFi Router solution.

Having found my new Apple TV unable to connect to my WiFi Router I discovered a technique which may be useful to others. Use your mobile phone as a mobile hotspot instead. I hope this helps other people with a similar connectivity issue.

Hi, i do have a similar situation. Everytime I try to synchronise itunes with my ATV (also version 2.3), it synchronise between 4 and 10 songs and then automatically disconnect the wireless connection on my computer (my ibook and other notebook stays connected at the same time). regards, Erik
